Well the time has come and I’m coming home. We are to leave the company the 17th of July, and within about three weeks I should be home and a civilian. Now don’t get too excited about me coming home as many things can happen. I just wanted you to know I was coming so you would not be too excited when I call you on the phone. I don’t want you to meet me in Chicago. I want to meet you at home. Tell dad when I call from Chicago, he can get the day off because I want to see both of you at once and smother you both with kisses and hugs. Now don’t think I’m of big baby if I break down and cry, but I have missed both of you so much that you will never know how much.
Good by and just cross your fingers and pray that I make it.

Dear Mother & Dad;
I told you not to worry about me and my girl. I thought the same way you did so I’ll wait until I get home, and if I still love her and they lifted the fraternization law all send for her. The way I see it now she would make me a wonderful wife, but we will see.
There’s nothing to write about these days. Plenty of rumors about going home but no action. They just don’t seem to be in any hurry these days. I figure I might be home by August if I’m lucky. I’ll let you know more later.
Yes I should be S/Sgt but they froze all of the ratings in
the division in I couldn’t get it. The company commander tried, but it just won’t go through so I’ll just have to settle with being a T/4. I don’t care if I’m just a buck private if they would only send me home.
Guess I’ll bring this to a close for now. Good by and I’ll write again soon. I have a bunch more pictures on the way home again.

Dear Mother & Dad;
We left Salzburg the 6th of July, and it took us two days to get to our zone of occupation. We are in a small village about 24 miles from Kassel, Germany. We are to take up M.P. duties now.
It was sure hard for me to leave Salzburg, because it was just like another home to me the way I was treated. Lore’s Mother and Grandmother cried about the way you did when I left home. I’ll never for get those people mom, never. Poor Lore cried for three days. I must have really had her snowed under. What gets me, she wouldn’t have anything to do with any of the other Americans,
and then after she fell in love with me, she didn’t have much to do with anyone.
She worked in the daytime and then would come home at night and work late doing my washing and ironing. To be honest with both of you, if this fraternization was off I would have married her. She proved one thing to me, and that’s that I don’t love Rita. I always thought I did, but now I know I don’t. I am sold on this girl, and there’s no way in the world I can do anything about it. I’ll be home soon, and I can talk and tell you more about it than I can put in a letter.
Say I have sent home a lot of junk. Keep all of it for me. It
would be best if you would keep it all in the boxes until I get home, as I’ll probably give some of it away. Your present is among one of the boxes mom, and I must say it’s worth a small fortune. Someday I would like to have it for my home. I showed it two Lore and her folks, and were they ever crazy about it. Not only is it a souvenir from Hitler, but it’s something everyone one would be fond of. All I hope and pray is that it gets home and no one steals it. I really can’t say how much it’s worth, but you probably will know more than I about it. It’s all handmade.
We have a nice set up where we are now. We are in a large hotel. This is a health resort town. It’s full of mineral
baths and such. Guess I’ll go down and try a one out tomorrow.
We have little work to do now so maybe I can get caught up on my letter writing a little. I owe so many letters, and I just know the people think I have forgotten them.
Guess this is all I have to say for now so I’ll bring this to a close. Good by to you both and don’t get too excited about me coming home. It’s a slow process all though the army makes it sound as if they are sending everyone home, but there not. Good by and I love you both very much.

Dear Mother & Dad;
Not much to write about but I had some negatives to send so I thought I would drop you a line. I dreamed of coming home last night, but then I had to wake up and find myself in Salzburg.
Went on a picnic today. We really had a lot of fund to. Boy I wish you could see the scenery here mother it’s really beautiful. The only thing I hated about this country is that it rains all the time.
We haven’t been able to play any of our ball games because it has been raining. Are old ball team is starting to break up as the old men are going home.
Had a letter from Snook today. Seems as tho he is going to be stuck for a while. Oh well it’s better to be over here than going to the south Pacific.
Oh yes our division receive the presidential citation for our work at Colmar. Anzio was worse than anything we have ever been through, and we never received a thing for it. That’s the way the army goes tho.
Guess this is all for now so I’ll say good-bye. Here is some pictures for my books. Oh yes. Here’s what I look like now so don’t get too excited as you will find out I have changed quite a bit since I left home. By By

Dear Mother & Dad;
Well now we are going to stay with the division until we get sent home. If they keep on the way they are we never will get home. But one thing you can be thankful for, and that’s that I’m not going to the Pacific. I’ll be home some day, but I just don’t know when. Just keep your fingers crossed.
The more I stay here, the more a im falling in love with my girl so I hope we move soon. I know it would break your heart if I brought her home so I won’t. I just sat back and marvel at her. Gosh ma’am I hope I find one in the states like her and if I don’t I know I’m coming back
for her. But I’ll talk to you first. You can’t put things into a letter that you want to say. I know you would like her, but she can’t speak any English, and that’s another reason why I won’t bring her home. She has really won my hard though.
It has been raining quite a bit here lately. Last week it was beautiful, now this week it has rained every day. It surely put a stop to
us playing ball. I’m losing all of my help tomorrow as they are going home by plane. One of the Fellows in as Tony Pryz brother Joe.
I have really become a lover of flowers. We have plenty of flowers in our front yard and I always have a large bouquet on my desk all the time.
Well I guess this is about all for now so I’ll bring this to a close. What do you think of my stationary pretty nice eh.
Goodbye to you both and I’ll be home some day. Don’t worry, and say hello to everyone for me as im not writing any letters lately.

Dear Mother & Dad;
Well I should be leaving in a few days to the 103rd Division. That division is declared non-essential and will be sent back to the states and the man discharged. It will probably take about two months before I get home, but at least you know I’m coming someday. I’ll keep a writing and let you know what’s going on. Don’t send any more packages as I’ll probably be home before they would get here.
Gee wanted to know if my girl here could make her something. Well she could to if she had the stuff but you can’t buy anything here.
Boy Mom I wish I could find someone like her back in the states. She does all of my laundry, and keeps all of my things as neat as a pin. Work, I never saw girl works so much. She’s not a beautiful girl, but she is sweet, and you never merry girls for their looks anyway, do you? Don’t worry Mom I won’t marry her, as she speaks very little in English. The pour kid is in love with me. I thought I was leaving the other day and she cried all day and night, but now I don’t know when I’ll leave, but it should be soon.
Guess this is all for now so I’ll say good by, and will write again soon.

P.S. I’m sending a lot of junk home so keep it in the boxes as I want to give some of it away when I get home. It will probably be better if you don’t open the boxes at all. Save them till I get there.

Dear Mother & Dad;
Boy I surely can’t understand this mail situation. I have been writing you and dad all the time. I’ll admit that I haven’t been writing two anyone else but you two.
Not much to write about. I pitched another no hit ball game, but I got beat 3 to 2. Too many errors. I’ve pitched three games now and two of them have been no hit ball games. But I still don’t want to pitch unless I have to.
The weather here has surely been wonderful. It was raining all the time, but this week it quit for a change.
Now do you see why I don’t write very much. I just don’t have anything to write about. Oh yes, please get this idea of your head that I don’t want to come home. When they let me go I’ll go, but at the rate their sending them it will be Christmas before I get home. There is about 100 of us eligible to come home and all only 4 of them went home for the month of June. Now do you see what I mean. Guess this is all for now good by and I’ll write again soon.

Dear Mother & Dad;
Not much to write about, but I had better write as you will worry. Our ball team is still waiting, and we are in a three way tie for first place. All I hope is that we keep on winning. We play just about every day, and with my work I’m kept pretty busy, and have little time for letter writing. When I do get a little time in the evening, I go see my girl. She is really tops mom and if I could find one like her in America I would really be happy. Work, I never saw girl work so hard. Everything is just as neat and clean as can be. There’s only one thing wrong she doesn’t speak English. I have been with her so much now that between my German and her in English we get along
swell. Love is international. I imagine we will be moving from here in about a week or so. I’m going to hate to move but then I’ll be coming home soon so I’ll have to for get everything.
The only thing to do here are as long as we have to stay, and that’s to make things as pleasant as can be. I’m in good health, little run down, but I’ll be in good shape before long. Since the war has been over and the stress is gone, life is a lot different. Well guess this is all for now so I’ll say good-bye and will write again in a few days.

Dear Father;
Today is father’s day so being as I can be at home with you, a letter from me will have to do. It’s a nice day here, the best day we have had for some time. It usually rains part of the day, but today it was good.
Well we lost in the division finals yesterday 2 to 1. It was a tough game to loose but someone had to loose. So for this year I’m still pitching 1000. I pitched my second game the other night and we won 6 to 4. The score sounds high, but there were a lot of errors. They only got three hits off of me, so you see I didn’t do too badly. I just don’t like to pitch anymore, but our other pitcher
had to pitch in the tournament so I pitched. We had close to $400 Dollars Bet on the game. I have picked up a couple of hundred betting on games so far this year. I never bet much though, only 30 or 40 dollars.
Still have my and little girl here. Wish you could see her. I’m afraid I have fallen in love, but it won’t do me any good as we will be leaving here soon. For the first time in my life I think I have found someone that would make me a good wife, but its no go. I know how you and mom would feel if I would marry a foreigner. So soon I will be forgetting her, and will be coming home to you both. Still haven’t the slightest idea when I’ll be home, at the rate they are sending them, it will be about Christmas, but I’ll make it. Guess I’ll bring this to a close for now. Next father’s day I will really make it up to you. Good by, and I love you very much.

Dear Mother & Dad;
Have a bunch of your letters to answer so being this is Saturday afternoon and we have the afternoon off I’m going to catch up on my letter writing.
Not much to write about around here. I’m going on another picnic tomorrow, that is in if it’s a nice day. I think I told you that we are in the division finals of the Softball championship. We have a pretty good team. Bet pop would enjoy seeing us play.
Know you two don’t expect me home so soon. One thing for sure my fighting days are over, so you won’t have to
worry about that anymore. With me being the only one in the supply now it will take me a couple of months to get caught up. But I’ll be home some day, and that’s for sure.
Say mom by the way thank Lavina Everets for the birthday card she sent me. I haven’t the time to write and think her. I’m glad to hear that Don Brown and Jimmy Ayers are okea. I kinda sweated Jimmy Ayers out as I figured he may be dead. That’s the way it goes. I wish I was one of the day lucky ones that was going home right now, but I’ll stay a little longer and be sure of getting I discharge when I get home. I have 120 points now as we were authorized another bronze star. Guess this is all for now, goodbye and I’ll write again soon.
Lots of Love
