Setting the stage for IIFA 2026, the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend & Awards, the world’s most prestigious celebration of Indian cinema, officially launched IIFA Connex, a curated platform bringing together influential voices from across media, entertainment, fashion, business, culture and creativity to foster meaningful conversations, collaborations and contemporary thought leadership.
Set within a relaxed and intimate lounge-style setting, the evening was designed to encourage conversation and connection over cocktails with the industry, creating a premium networking experience for the wider creative ecosystem.
Beyond IIFA’s iconic Green Carpet, IIFA Connex debuted as the definitive forum for entertainment strategy, collaboration and industry dialogue, envisioned as a dynamic monthly platform and networking destination for the Indian entertainment industry and the broader creative community.
Bringing together some of the brightest minds across entertainment, culture, business and creativity, the premiere edition of IIFA Connex established itself as a space where industries converge and conversations matter; where film, media, fashion, arts, music, business and culture intersect to shape the future. More than a celebrity-driven gathering, IIFA Connex emerged as a forum for insight, relevance, innovation and forward-thinking exchange.
The inaugural edition of IIFA Connex, titled ‘From Styled to Screen’, explored the enduring relationship between cinema and style, celebrating the creative forces that continue to shape aspiration, identity and popular culture in India and globally.

As 2026 marks 30 years since one of the most defining milestonesin India’s entertainment history, Michael Jackson’s concert, Wizcraft honoured that legacy and revisited the unforgettable chapter that laid the foundation for India’s modern live events industry. To commemorate that it has beenn 30 years since the legendary HIStory World Tour in Mumbai, Wizcraft Entertainment Agency hosted a special screening of the highly anticipated biopic, MICHAEL, at PVR Mumbai. The screening served as a powerful tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, celebrating his enduring legacy and the extraordinary journey that first brought him to India, a monumental moment that forever changed the landscape of entertainment in the country.
As the visionaries behind that historic moment, who stood at the center of the storm to bring the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, to India, the founders of Wizcraft Entertainment Agency reflected on the extraordinary journey.
Andre Timmins commented, “When people told us it was impossible, we laughed because we were too young to know impossible. Bringing Michael Jackson to India was pure madness, passion, and faith. That one night wasn’t just a concert… it was history, and I’m still smiling at the thought that three dreamers from Mumbai made India moonwalk.”
Adding to this, Viraf Sarkari said, “I’ll never forget the sight of those two Antonov planes landing carrying shipping containers of equipment the likes of which India had never seen before. Stages, lights, sound, it was another universe of production, and to build it all here for MJ was like creating magic from scratch.”
Further reflecting on the impact of the landmark event, Sabbas Joseph added, “That event transformed everything. It changed how governments, corporations, and sponsors looked at entertainment in India. Suddenly Wizcraft wasn’t just a start-up of dreamers and we became a trusted name, a business that could deliver the impossible, and a brand recognized across the country.”

Michael is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before. The day begins with opening remarks from Pratik Dattani, Managing Director of EPG, setting the stage for a dynamic series of panels, keynote sessions and curated networking opportunities. With an emphasis on filmas a cultural and commercial bridge, this year’s conclave focuses on how global partnerships can
be fostered through storytelling, policy support and strategic investment.
The first panel discussion, India–UK Co-Production Success Stories & The Path Ahead, delves into lessons from existing collaborations and the evolving future of international co-productions.Moderated by acclaimed TV producer Riffi Khan (Come Dine With Me, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!), the panel features a distinguished lineup. Shruti Rajkumar (Invest India, architect of India’s global filming incentives), Anupam Sharma (Australia India Film Council), Neeraj Churi (Lotus Visual Productions, producer of the Sundance-winning Cactus Pears) and Neil Biswas (award-winning writer/director – Bradford Riots, Darkness Visible).
Following scheduled meetings for filmmakers and investors, delegates will reconvene for an In Conversation with Gurinder Chadha OBE (Bend It Like Beckham), hosted by Duncan Carson from the Independent Cinema Office (ICO). The session promises a candid discussion about representation, creative risk-taking and Chadha’s lasting influence on diasporic cinema.
The final panel of the day, Increasing Audience Access and Distribution, investigates audience dynamics across the two regions. With Indian films accounting for nearly a third of UK cinema releases in 2022 but only 1.8% of box office revenue, the panel will question how language, themes and market familiarity can become either obstacles or opportunities. It will explore the barriers preventing films from reaching wider audiences, the role of streaming platforms, and the potential for broader cross cultural engagement. Moderated by filmmaker and educator Reshel Shah-Kapoor (God Children), the discussion includes cinema business luminaries. Agnieszka Moody (Head of International Relations, British Film Institute – BFI), Pranab Kapadia (founder of Moviegoers Entertainment and BAFTA member) and Bhavna Mistry (former VP of Eros International).
“The world is eager for authentic, diverse and untold stories from India,” says Pratik Dattani, Managing Director of EPG. “Through The Film Conclave, we are not just celebrating Indian cinema; we are providing financial and strategic support to bring these powerful narratives to a global audience.”

A highlight of the evening will be a Q&A between entertainment journalist Anuj Radia of Filme Shilmy and Bollywood’s top casting director Mukesh Chhabra, whose credits span Gangs of Wasseypur, Dangal, Scam 1992, Dil Bechara and Black Warrant. The conversation will explore Chhabra’s role in shaping Indian cinema’s new wave and the evolution of casting as a craft.
This year’s curated slate features over 17 projects, spanning a dynamic mix of documentaries and narrative features across various stages of development and a wide spectrum of budgets. The initiative champions bold, original storytelling from across borders—spotlighting filmmakers from India, the UK, the US, Canada and Cannes.

Streaming now on Prime Video is the new romantic comedy Picture This, which stars Simone Ashley of Bridgerton fame. Directed by Prarthana Mohan, this beautiful, funny film also features Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After), Sindhu Vee (Matilda: The Musical), Luke Fetherston (Still Up), Nikesh Patel (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Adil Ray (Citizen Khan), Anoushka Chadha (You), and Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso). In this heartfelt rom-com, struggling photographer Pia (Simone Ashley) receives a prediction: true love and career success await her in the next five dates she goes on. With her sister’s wedding looming and her family playing matchmaker, her ex (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) reappears, throwing her love and professional life into chaos. Inspired by the Australian film Five Blind Dates, Picture This unapologetically leans into its modern-day rom-com vibe, telling a tale about the universal language of love that’s fresh, fun, and culturally authentic.

Simone Ashley immediately connected with the story: “I loved the script. I really loved how, you know, this was a movie led by Pia herself. And I love that it was British, [and a] comedy. I just thought it was such a simple storyline, which, sometimes, is the most powerful and something you can really sink your teeth into and get creative with… I loved that it revolved around family and celebrated Indian culture, as well as finding humor within these kinds of families and the traditions … there was also a lot about the script that felt universal,” explained Ashley.
With its mixture of comedy and romance, the director, Prarthana Mohan, feels Picture This makes the perfect date movie. “I think it will definitely make you chuckle,” says Mohan. “Whether it’s a first date or you’re deep into dating, I think it’s a good movie to sit back and have drinks and popcorn or watch at home. I think it’d be really fun. It’s got a lot of laughs. It’s got a lot of heart, too.”

The SOG Grandmasters Series West Zone Final began in style last night organized by the SOG Federation (SOGF) and the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA), led by Nandan Jha, the event showcases the best minds in Chess and Rummy.
The evening’s guest of honor, Shri Ashish Shelar, Minister of Information Technology and Cultural Affairs, Maharashtra Government, praised the initiative for pushing the boundaries of intellectual competition and fostering a new era for mind sports in India.
Chess Grandmaster Koneru Humpy, the Brand Ambassador for the SOG Grandmasters Series, and Ajinkya Rahane, the Brand Ambassador for the West Zone Final, expressed their pride in being part of a movement that is redefining skill-based competitions and opening doors for future champions.
The event featured an eclectic mix of personalities from sports, entertainment, and gaming, all coming together to celebrate strategic brilliance and intellectual prowess.
Nandan Jha, Founder, SOG, shared, “Today, India is at the apex of mind sports, and hosting the final is a monumental event for the entire federation, the entire country. We are delighted to celebrate the success of Grandmaster, Koneru Humpy. We are grateful to the Indian Government for all the appreciation and acknowledgement, it is really humbling. Angad Bedi further shared, “Mind matters, always. We mostly focus on physical endurance in any sport, but be it Chess, Rummy or Cricket, you have to be mentally strong as well. Our country is moving in the right direction, and as a father, I feel really proud when my daughter is inquisitive about almost everything, it’s essential for the kids to keep stimulating their minds and such sports are helping kids all around the globe! Heartiest congratulations to Nandan ji for taking this initiative, his brilliance is commendable! It’s very enlightening to associate with an event of such stature.”

Kommune, India’s acclaimed cultural storytelling hub, concluded the two-day celebration of music, words, and everything love, Spoken Fest—Asia’s largest spoken word festival—in Mumbai on February 2nd, 2025. The evening brought together the brilliant singer-composer-producer Shankar Mahadevan and the founder of Kommune India, Roshan Abbas—for an unfiltered conversation that delved into the heart of music and creative synergy.
It was an eclectic mix of storytelling and music, where Shankar Mahadevan spoke about his life in music through memorable music performances and stimulating conversation. From the opening moments, Mahadevan transported the audience back to the genesis of his journey. He talked about how he was comfortable with this corporate job as well as doing music. The Grammy-winning singer took a call at the age of 26-27 to leave his job at a reputed software firm that provided a cushioned life in the USA with financial stability and pursue his passion for music full-time. He told his boss, “Sir, mujhe career change karna hain kal.” He knew that the path was foggy and the future was unstable, but without this leap of faith, Mahadevan said, he would not have been where he was today.
Both Roshan Abbas and Shankar Mahadevan took a trip down the memory lane of how, when ‘Breathless’ became a raging hit, the singer did his first corporate show with Roshan, underlining the friendship that they have shared for almost 30 years.
During his music performances, Shankar was joined by the rising music star and actor Souumil Shringarpure of Bandish Bandits fame. The night came alive with breathtaking renditions of some of Mahadevan’s most iconic songs, including ‘Breathless’, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Mitwa’, and Marathi hit ‘Sur Niragas Ho’. Each note served as a reminder of the timeless impact of his music, leaving the audience spellbound.
He also gave the audience a glimpse of his thinking process and the joy he finds when music and lyrics come together when Abbas asked him an interesting question. Roshan requested him to break down the music for an engineer, taking a deep dive into the technicalities of music, a one-of-a-kind experience to delve into the mind of the maestro.
With reference to his popular song, ‘Mitwa’, he explained to the audience, “You can deconstruct any melody to its relevant sargam. It is like any program if you break it down into its relevant, equivalent binaries. Music can represent a playground, where you can freely dance, play, and jump around. The binary layers are sargam, the lowermost layer. It is the spelling of ‘Mitwa’. If you remove the sargam, then the melody comes. When you put lyrics on the melody, it becomes a song. The application of classical music comes here. Why should you learn classical music? For the application of it, and to sing a harkat in ‘Mitwa’.”
While talking about the new wave of musicians, Shankar Mahadevan fondly reminisced about late Zakir Hussain, saying, “When I was in junior college, my dream was to meet the band members of Shakti. The most phenomenal band that pioneered taking Indian music to the next level. We used to go to a cassette store, ‘Embassy,’ in Chembur, and it was like a masterclass. I used to ask Zakir’s brother, Fazal, to make me meet Zakir Hussain and click a picture with him and Shakti. If you put it out there and manifest it very strongly, the universe definitely gives it. I ended up touring with ‘Shakti’ for 25 years. When I used to be on stage, I used to wonder if it was a dream. I just wanted to meet them, and now I am sitting on stage with them. The word ‘Tabla’ has lost its meaning after Zakir Hussain is no more.”
The singer also took the audience through the journey of how the trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, came together. While Shankar used to sing jingles for advertisements, Ehsaan and Loy were reputed producers already. Their frequent studio hangouts fostered a creative partnership of 30 years. He chronicled the journey from making and producing the biggest hit, ‘Sabse Aage Honge Hindustani’ for a shelved film, ‘Dus’, to not having any contractual relationship for all these years. It is sheer love, friendship, and respect for each other’s ideas that has kept the trio going!
Shankar Mahadevan also gave a memorable performance of ‘Breathless’, which gave him fame when it came out in 1988. He talked about how the song came about during an intellectually intense conversation with Javed Akhtar. Before ending up performing the song not once but twice, on public demand underscoring the enthusiasm that the audience at the festival brought during the session.
Furthermore, he also gave a glimpse into the success of Shankar Mahadevan Academy, which uplifts the spirits of people who struggle with illness, pain, or a lonely heart with the power of music and partners with hospitals, care centres, and senior-citizen communities to stage free online concerts by musicians.
The conversation was one of its kind, where the artist immersed himself in storytelling, along with a live performance. It was only possible through a platform like Spoken Fest, where artists find experimental ways to express themselves and present their craft. The veteran producer was very amazed by the vibrant crowd at the Spoken Fest Mumbai 2025, who were constantly cheering, hooting, and instilling great energy in the atmosphere. Appreciating the display of this great enthusiasm, Shankar asked Abbas where he brought such a high-spirited audience from, praising the fest’s essence of bringing such an energetic community together.

As dusk fell on the first day of Spoken Fest 2025 – Asia’s largest storytelling festival, celebrated poet-lyricist Gulzar engaged in a nazm-laced conversation with Roshan Abbas.
The session, focused on Gulzar’s lesser-explored literary works beyond his film contributions, offered audiences a rare glimpse into the creative mind of one of India’s most beloved poets.
In a deeply moving exchange about a poet’s relationship with his work, Gulzar shared a disarmingly humble perspective – “I have a relationship with you (Roshan Abbas) and all of them (audience) and the poems exist because of these relations. Poems come from you all and I just try to write them and speak them.” He referenced a Gujarati saying, “aa maaro dhandho chhe,” before revealing the visceral connection to his craft with the confession, “Without poems, I am naked on the inside.”
Describing his creative process, Gulzar painted a vivid picture of how he gathers the raw materials for his poetry from the lived experiences of others. “I’m a kabaadi – and I take from you all the moments you’ve lived. And on those, I ask as a kabaadi, permission to write poems. I take broken sleep of the night, collect pieces of dreams fallen from the pillow or between the folds of the bed sheets – I take them and arrange them,” he explained, illustrating how he transforms these collected moments into verses.
When questioned about his remarkable ability to craft accessible yet profound imagery, Gulzar emphasized the importance of awareness and sensitivity. “It is all around you. It’s all about feeling it. It’s on your awareness – awareness of your own sensitivity,” he explained. “If you keep your eyes open, you feel life touch you in multiple ways, and as it touches you, you will feel something. And once you’ve felt it, it’s my job to write it. And then, I tell you what you’ve felt but missed.”
The evening took an introspective turn when Roshan Abbas recited one of Gulzar’s older poems, prompting the poet to reflect on the curious relationship between artists and their past works. With characteristic wisdom tinged with humor, Gulzar said, “Sometimes, you’re amazed at your poems. Sometimes you wonder if it’s actually you who’s written it. Only old alcohol is nice, you read an old poem and you can get an allergy.”
For Roshan Abbas, who had long dreamed of hosting Gulzar at Spoken Fest, the evening represented the culmination of a long-held ambition. Their conversation, weaving through topics of green poems and neglected verses, and Triveni form of poems unique to Gulzar, exemplified the festival’s commitment to celebrating the depth and diversity of spoken word artistry in India.

“It was a call to the Garden of Time – an ode to art and eternity.
Timelessness is endless, and we acknowledge that things crafted with time and care, can last forever. In our journey for an Indian interpretation of this universal theme, the outfit took on a life of its own.
Nothing embodies tradition and innovation like the saree; in the skilled hands of #SabyasachiMukherjee, this vision found its fullest expression. We looked to the past as a guide for the future, drawing inspiration from the timeless sophistication of Indian nobility. We focused on intricate craftsmanship, incorporating hand embroidery, precious stones, along with elegant beadwork and fringes, distinctive of the 1920’s fringe style. Our colour palette pays homage to nature’s beauty, echoing the earth, sky, and sea.
We embraced a delicate nostalgia for hair and makeup – an elevated coiffure embellished with intricately woven braids and soft freckles – a homage to time’s gentle caress.
Creating this has been quite an experience… fun and stressful in equal parts. It has taken a collective effort of 163 dedicated individuals, including master craftspeople, embroiderers, artists, and dyers, investing a total of 1965-man hours to create this ethereal saree. As I wear this outfit, I feel incredibly grateful to embody this exquisite creation, a testament to boundless love and painstaking effort.
