It’s easy to appreciate a local farmers’ market. There are locally grown fruits, veggies, eggs, dairy, meat, and more that you can’t find at your nearest H-E-B. The growers are often right there and can tell you all about what’s in season and what they’re selling. And a good farmers market can get you out of your comfort zone in the kitchen when you’re shopping in season. Plus, it’s hard to beat a Sunday morning strolling booth to booth.

Even better: Shopping at an Austin farmers market helps support our local farmers, ranchers, makers, and more. Local food always tastes better. It’s just a fact.

Here are six farmers’ markets in Austin you can visit each week.

Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller

The Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller boasts an impressive list of more than 120 vendors from growers to artisanal makers. Agricultural producers come from within 150 miles of the market, meaning the produce is fresh and doesn’t have to travel far before it gets to your table.

When: Sundays, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Where: 2006 Philomena St.

Sustainable Food Center Farmers’ Market Downtown

Republic Square is bustling every Saturday with over 40 vendors, small local businesses, community programs, and activities for the whole family. Both of the Sustainable Food Center’s farmers markets accept SNAP Lonestar cards and WIC EBT cards, and Double Up Food Bucks are available, which double the amount of Lone Star (SNAP), WIC, and FMNP benefits individuals and families can spend on fruits and vegetables at farmers’ markets and mobile markets in Austin.

When: Saturdays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where: Republic Square, 422 Guadalupe St.

Bee Cave Farmers Market

From the organizers of Cedar Park Market Days, the Bee Cave Farmers Market has all the makings of a good farmers market—fresh local produce, prepared foods, and other artisanal goods—as well as live music every Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

When: Sundays, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Where: 12700 Hill Country Blvd., Bee Cave

Sustainable Food Center Farmers’ Market Sunset Valley

While this farmers’ market has been in Austin for a while, the Sustainable Food Center took over in 2010. With more than 35 local vendors, it’s become a reliable destination for in-season fruit and vegetables, pasture-raised meat, eggs, pastries, and handcrafted artisan goods.

When: Saturdays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where: Toney Burger Center, 3200 Jones Rd.

Barton Creek Farmers Market

The Barton Creek Farmers Market first got its start in the Whole Foods parking lot back in 1987, making it one of the city’s oldest markets. Located at the back of Barton Creek Mall, this farmers’ market has seasonal fruits and vegetables, dairy and meat, and prepared foods.

When: Saturdays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where: 2901 S Capital of Texas Hwy

Lone Star Farmers Market

For 15 years, Lone Star Farmers Market has been offering local offerings to Austinites. While their location has changed a few times, you can now find them in Springdale General on Sundays. This market has fresh flowers, produce, farm-raised Wagyu, and so much more. Plus, on the first and third Thursdays of the month, you can catch their afternoon market at Steiner Ranch.

When: Sundays, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Where: 1023 Springdale Rd

Boggy Creek Farm

This organic, no-till urban farm hosts its own farmers’ market, and it’s open during the week. Check their website each week to see what’s available, from produce to pasta to meat to coffee. Be sure to bring your own bags—the market has eliminated plastic produce bags.

When: Wednesdays through Saturdays, 8 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where: 3414 Lyons Rd.

One of our favorite ways to cool off is spending the day at Deep Eddy Pool and then walking over to Pool Burger for icy sips. Deep Eddy Pool is a man-made spring-fed pool and is open daily from 11 a.m.–8 p.m. There is a small fee to enter. Pool Burger is located just steps away, serving up fresh burgers and fries, soft-serve ice cream, and tropical cocktails.

Make a Day Trip to Schlitterbahn

Perhaps Texas’ best-known water park, Schlitterbahn’s enormous water park is split into four sections with river rides, pools, waterslides, and “adventures from mild to wild” that will appeal to everyone. Every section of the park also has a swim-up bar, a “not-so-lazy river,” a children’s play area, and rides. Plus, Schlitterbahn allows guests to bring their own coolers with a picnic lunch.

Cool off With Sno beach

Sno Beach has been a summer Austin staple since 1993. Beat the heat at this shaved ice trailer serving up both classic and unique flavors like cantaloupe, coffee, sweet tea, and more.

Take a Dip in Krause Springs

Krause Springs is a camping and swimming site located in Spicewood, Texas about 30 miles west of Austin. There are 32 springs throughout the 115-acre property along with a manmade pool and natural pool that flows into Lake Travis. Food and drinks are allowed, while glass and pets are prohibited. It costs $10 to enter.

Grab Something Sweet at Zed’s Ice Cream

Zed’s Ice Cream is serving up unique creamy creations over on the east side and in Tarrytown. Zed’s ice cream is unique in that they use a blend of Tillamook vanilla soft serve swirled with fresh fruit from the Willamette Valley. Living in Austin is expensive enough already. Whether you’re stuck on the side of the highway, trying to lower your monthly bills, or just looking for free resources around town, these local programs can seriously come in clutch.

Here are three Austin-area resources worth saving for later.

Need Help Paying Bills or Finding Resources? Call 2-1-1

If you’re dealing with rising utility bills, need help finding food assistance, or are looking for housing support, 2-1-1 Texas is one of the best free resources available.

It’s a free, confidential hotline that connects Texans with local nonprofits, government programs, and emergency services 24/7.

What 2-1-1 can help with:

  • Rent + housing assistance
  • Utility bill help
  • Food pantries + SNAP/WIC resources
  • Affordable healthcare + mental health services
  • Childcare resources
  • Transportation help
  • Senior + veteran services
  • Disaster recovery resources
  • Legal aid + crisis support

You can:

A lot of people don’t realize these services exist until they’re already overwhelmed, so this one’s worth bookmarking before you need it.

Austin’s Free Highway Help Program (HERO)

If your car breaks down on a major Austin highway, you might not need to call a tow truck immediately.

The Highway Emergency Response Operator (HERO) program is a free roadside assistance service operated by TxDOT and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

HERO can help with:

  • Flat tires
  • Dead batteries
  • Running out of gas
  • Minor vehicle repairs
  • Moving disabled vehicles off the road

• Bring sunscreen, water, and snacks (some pools allow coolers, others don’t).
• Most pools are family-friendly, but hours may vary for lap swim vs. open swim.

Stay cool out there, Austin! Whether you’re perfecting your backstroke or just lounging poolside, there’s no better way to beat the heat than a dip in a neighborhood pool.
