I am impatiently waiting for fall so I can wear this sweater I got in the NAS! When I tried it on, my first thought was, this is the perfect thing to wear to parent/teacher events with jeans — it's buttoned up, it's chic, it's a little professional but not weirdly so — and yet every parent meeting we've had this year has been in full heat.

(Sure, yes, it doesn't help that I apparently forgot most of these events are in August and September — but I'm all set for the February ones!)

I really do think this is a great sweater jacket and can't wait to wear it more. I got it in the black, but this ivory looks like another great basic — and I'm seeing a ton of winter white blazers/lady jackets for fall so this will fit right in. I also like that it's 100% merino wool.

All three colors of the sweater are on sale, but ivory has the most sizes left — the sweater was $179, but is now marked down to $107. (The burgundy one (which we featured in our roundup of THE blazer shape for fall) is even lower at $89, but there are only smaller sizes left.)

Leather (or faux leather) in the office can be a bit controversial, but the general consensus around these parts is that it can work if the styling is right. This A-line maxi skirt from Vince Camuto is a classic shape, and with a conservative top and accessories, I think it would be perfect for almost any office.

I would probably go for a feminine blouse in a silky fabric to balance things out, like this bow-neck blouse from Ann Taylor. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like this skirt is available in petites, so unless you’re willing to spend quite a bit on alterations, this is going to be for the taller folks only!

We’ve talked a lot over the years about the ways work has changed — remote work, extreme business casual, the decline of the five-day office week, and so on. But today let’s talk about our workplace gripes — reasonable or not. What annoys you about your workplace, your coworkers, or work in general? Are you comparing it to another workplace, to some time in the past, or just your own sense of how things should be?

We had a fun discussion a while back on millennial complaints, and I thought this could be similar. So: What is your “get off my lawn” gripe with regard to work?

I’ve seen readers discuss disappearing support staff, people “inheriting” laid-off coworkers’ work (but without an attendant title or salary boost), and the increasing amount of administrative work that seems to fall on everyone even as other parts of the job get outsourced or automated. And, of course, we’ve had a lot of discussions about artificial intelligence, the way the kids just can’t write, and more.

Maybe your gripe is about something big: training, mentorship, benefits, raises and bonuses, staffing levels, or advancement opportunities. Or maybe it’s something gloriously petty: email or voicemail etiquette! Zoom backgrounds! Business casual that has become too casual! People who schedule a meeting when a two-sentence email would have sufficed!

Maybe you have a rock-solid argument for why your way is better. Maybe you recognize that this is purely a you problem and the rest of the world has sensibly moved on. We want to hear it anyway.

So, readers: What’s your workplace “get off my lawn” gripe? What’s the thing that makes you think, “No. This is not how we should be doing things”?

I recently asked a friend (in-house counsel for a large bank) what she’s wearing to work these days, and her immediate response was mid-rise, pull-on pants from prAna.

With the caveat that they might not quite hit the mark if your office skews more toward the “business” side of business casual, I think they’d be great for a job where folks are embracing more of an athleisure look. (I happen to work somewhere where all the men are wearing these ABC trousers from Lululemon, so I think they would fit in nicely!)
