While jogging in Northern Jutland, Denmark, a man came upon a wolf and a wolf pup, and the wolf was not happy to share the space with the runner. The man, Brian Mosgaard Johansen, recorded his terrifying encounter, which included the male wolf chasing him, baring its teeth, and following him as he tried to retreat. Johansen did the only thing he could—yell at the wolf in hopes it deterred the animal from attacking. Thankfully, it worked.

Wolf Westsachsen, a Danish citizen-science organization dedicated to wolves, shared the video, suggesting that the presence of the pup cause this male wolf to act aggressively toward the man. Even so, the organization suggests this isn’t really normal behavior.

A very determined squirrel had her work cut out for her when an intruder snuck into her tree cavity and made itself at home. Heather Abrams caught the moment the squirrel evicted that unwanted visitor—a snake—in the most bad*ss way possible.

“This was Crazy! I’ve never seen a squirrel kick a** like this before!” wrote Abrams in her Instagram post sharing the video.

Several people in the comments section suggest the squirrel is likely a mom trying to protect her babies, which might have been in there.

Good Bull Guided Tours recently captured the moment a massive bull elk bugled at bystanders, including two men who were standing quite close to the animal. Bull elk aren’t too uncommon in Estes Park, Colorado this time of year, but the two men seem intent on filming the elk from an unsafe distance. Then elk then let out an impressively loud bugle, and they moved off to the side . . . although one of the bystanders needed someone to tell him to move first.

“That trumpet call is a warning . . . move or get moved,” wrote on person in the comments section.

“That’s what a telephoto lens is for,” wrote another.

Thankfully, the elk wasn’t feeling particularly aggressive that day.

An eastern brown snake, one of the most venomous and deadliest snakes in the world, recently crawled into a shed and then disappeared . . . well, almost. In fact, a photo of the scene shows part of the snake in the open, but it’s freakishly hard to spot.

An Australian news outlet shared the photo on social media, challenging the online community to spot the snake.

“We stared at this for WAY too long,” wrote news.com.au in the post sharing the photo. “Be honest, how long did it take you to spot it?”

An unusual scene from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, made for a popular video on social media. In the footage, a black bear sniffs out some uncooked burger patties sitting inside an unlit backyard grill, lifts the lid, and eats some of the meat.

“Mel (her video) came out to find that her grill area at her cabin had been taken over by the bears. You really can’t leave things unattended in the Smokies,” wrote Smoky Mountain Faith, Food & Fun in a Facebook post sharing the video.

The online community notes that had a hot grill certainly would have deterred the bear. Some people question whether this was all a stunt. Was the meat bait to attract the bear for a video? Either way, it’s clear that unattended food is not a safe bet in bear country—especially this time of year.

Jenny MacBeth of Cheswick, Pennsylvania, has a backyard raccoon friend that she feeds when it comes begging at her back door, and she recently shared footage of what happened when another forest friend—a deer—wanted to share the snacks. Let’s just say, it didn’t go well . . . at least, it didn’t go well for the deer.

FOX Weather shared the footage in an Instagram post, calling it a “snack standoff” and joking that the raccoon was too “hangry” to share.

In the comments section, many people chime in to say that they don’t agree with MacBeth’s decision to feed the wild raccoon, and that she might soon regret it when the whole local raccoon community realizes she’s giving out free food.

A 39-year-old man injured his leg while climbing Mount Shasta in northern California and required rescue. According to the U.S. Forest Service – Shasta-Trinity National Forest, the climber was stranded for two days on the Whitney Glacier after his injury, which occurred during his descent.

“In what turned out to be a complicated and difficult operation, the climber, a 39-year-old Florida man, made it off the mountain Tuesday evening after injuring his leg on the glacier while downclimbing the mountain Sunday evening,” wrote the U.S. Forest Service in a Facebook post sharing photos from the rescue. “The climber ascended the mountain via the Avalanche Gulch route and summited the mountain later in the day Sunday. [ . . .] The climber did not have snow and ice equipment and was dressed in sweatpants and a hoodie. He did have a pair of trekking poles and a small amount of food and water. While descending the glacier, he stepped through a thin snow bridge that concealed a crevasse, injuring his leg. The injury prevented him from descending further, prompting a call for help.”

After spending the night at 12,100 feet in poor weather, the man found relief when search-and-rescue crews were able to reach him the next day with supplies. He then spent a second night on the mountain with two Forest Service climbing rangers, before an air rescue was possible the next day. In addition to the man’s leg injury, he had frostbite on his lower extremities.

When a black bear came into a family’s backyard in British Columbia, the homeowners handled it in the most Canadian way ever. First, the woman recording repeatedly yells “eh!” at the bear, which is the perfect primer for what comes next. A man (her husband) then appears in the frame. He walks toward the animal carrying a hockey net to make himself appear larger. The tactics work like a charm, and the bear runs off into the wilderness.

“Tell me you’re married to a Canadian hockey player without telling me you’re married to a Canadian hockey player,” joked Rachel in her post sharing the video. “A BEAR in the backyard . . . and this man really said, ‘I’ve got this.’ Canada, I feel like this one belongs to us.”

The comments section is full of appreciation for the Canadians’ methods.

“And the Canadian black bear probably said, ‘Sorry!’ As he skedaddled,” wrote one person.
