The last minute change to lock down Judy Alvarez to being lesbian only just to appease a handful of deranged alphabet people will go down as one of the biggest fuck ups in video game storytelling history. Throughout the story your relationship with her is clearly progressing towards a romantic zenith. That climax is very clearly the diving scene, where the emotional and sexual tension between your characters reaches an apex and is obviously supposed to culminate with you having sex back at the shack. Instead it just abruptly cuts off unnaturally and completely breaks their whole story together.

I can already not get laid in real life just fine, experiencing it in a game as well I might as well just play a yard work simulator.

I'm a bit tired to see amazing mods requiring MWSE OR OpenMW.
Many modders continue to make only MWSE versions of mods and not making an alternate OpenMW version at all. I guess since the Lua implementation is completely different, it would mean the double of scripting work for the modder, so I'm not necessarly blaming each individual modder sticking only to the MWSE option mostly because they are used to it and because apparently MWSE allows more things right now, I just wonder if the modding scene will eventually evolve or just stick to its current uses.

Some of them are particularly harsh towards OpenMW. To them, OpenMW is only good if you want to play Morrowind on Linux or MacOS, but a terrible choice (or even that there is no reason to choose it) on Windows because it doesn't support MWSE which has lots of mods, some considered essential (the number of people only swearing by Ashfall is astonishing), so they refuse to recognize OpenMW may be the future and almost wish everyone sticked to the vanilla engine (and some even ecourage new players to purely stick to the vanilla engine, I've seen this a lot in the Confrérie des Traducteurs). It's not helped by tha fact that MWSE is still maintained and updated, which continues to dig the rift in the modding community, and I hope it won't prevent OpenMW to develop and to be on par with vanilla+MWSE, especially since OpenMW have so many upsides of its own (ease of use, many MCP updates already baked in the engine and togglable in the launcher, better distant lands, better stability and optimization, native support of normal maps and parallax maps, no light limit, native support of shaders and groundcover...)

How is this so hard? I get that it's not the easiest thing in the world to fix, but 16 years? With a fanbase this dedicated that has managed to fix like 99% of the game's main issues (most of which was done through the 4gb patch)? And it'd be one thing if it was just a minor leak, no it's actually a really significant one that makes it an exceedingly bad idea to ever play this game for longer than 2-3 hours at a time (30 minutes by the endgame). It's bad to the point that I don't know how no one in QA caught it during development.

After playing through more times than I care to admit, I firmly believe that Zidane, and possibly even Kuja, had received Gaian souls instead of the Terran souls that they were meant to and said to have received.

It would better explain how and why Zidane sees Gaian memories while in memoria, and his strong feelings towards his home planet and expressional personality.

Kuja was meant to be the original angel of death, though Garland admits his mistake in giving him too strong of a soul to control. One thing that isn't explained is how these souls are selected and whom the soul originally belonged to, yet we are lead to believe they are Terran souls. Knowing nothing else besides life on Terra and Garland's control, he is incensed at the idea of a new and stronger genome created for the same purpose as he, who is Zidane and betrays Garland by abandoning an emotionally and mentally infantile Zidane on Gaia.

Garland is not immune from mistakes or miscalculations, the story says and proves as much. He failed in making two genome with the express purpose of bringing war and strife to the whole of Gaia. But how do we know their souls are truly Terran as intended in their creation?

Both genomes were created after the flow of souls had been redirected from Gaia to Terra, transforming Gaian souls into Terran souls this giving life to the Terran crystal, like a blood transplant. But we know nothing of the crystals and the extent of their power or capabilities beyond fleeting memories.

The Gaian crystal knew it was under serious attack, the sudden lack of souls returning to the crystal surely would have been noticed as the crystal was deprived of what gives it life, which in turn gives life to the planet. It's defence mechanism was to fill a soul with every memory and spirit of Gaia that has been, the essence of Gaia if you will. A very concentrated source of emotions and memories, which was hidden inside the Gaian souls flowing into Terra.

2 years ago, over 2 decades after first playing it, I finally finished BG1. Until reaching the titular city, I was like "ok I get it now", but then it kind of became a slog, yet I still soldiered through. I started BG2 the next day and at this point I'm still at act 3.
I did not enjoy the city part in BG1, and BG2 has been pretty much all city up till this point. I really want to play through it, but I also can't help but feel this is one of the most overhyped games of all time.
The story isn't gripping - some bad dude kidnapped us for no reason and Imoen (who I don't particularly care for) is held captive. Way worse hook than the first game. Quests are your typical errand boy stuff. Game is more high level, so there is a bloat of spells and items and most of them are useless, but it takes a lot of time to figure out which aren't. At this point I think 1 to 1 adaptations of PNP systems into vidya is bad idea, though you can do worse, like invent a bloated system to mimic DND, but streamline things so stats make no logical sense and adapt that into vidya like Pillars.
The romance and companion dialogue is probably the most annoying part of BG2. Who asked for this? Jaheira keeps coming up with her grief in the weirdest moments and pixie-elf-circus-girl is probably there just to entertain .pdf files.
It's also weird that I have the same vibe with "spiritual successors" of those games. POE I enjoyed, until it got to the city part, but pushed through (the story and writing was ass). POE2 feels like a bloated mess and I don't feel like finishing it ever. Tyrrany was great fun and I enjoyed it like I did PST, but I get the critique that those are "story games".
It seems I like Black Isle stuff and I struggle with Bioware games?
What's the flowchart for enjoying a BG2 playthrough?

Why does he take the avatar of an American 1950s loli in his virtual world? Why is he even in the game? Did Todd and Emil get bullied by some German chad in high school named Stanislav Braun and decided to make Fallout 3 to get some vicarious revenge on him decades later so they could insert him into their RPG as a girl?

Speaking of bizarre Fallout 3 characters... What was the deal with the android that broke into Vault 112 and equated it to "like stealing candy from a little girl" on his robco terminal? I think Pinkerton was pretty based. And imo hardcore Fallout 3 RPers who want absolute immersion use an RNG to select a race and gender at random in the character creator than they visit Pinkerton in Rivet City to pick the sex and race they want to actually play as (for example if you want to roll FO3 as a white male but your RNG makes you a black woman you'll have to visit Pinkerton ingame after escaping Vault 101 to transition you into your preferred form)

What do you guys think of the Baten Kaitos games? I'm a few hours into the first one and I'm not really feeling it. The battles take way too long, and I don't like the battle system in general. The story/dialogue/characters are boring (although I'm hearing alot of people saying "it gets good after 20 hours bro, trust me"). They added unnecessary steps to leveling which makes it tedious. I like Motoi Sakuraba, but the music in this seems kinda phoned in; like he just copy-pasted themes from the Tales games, but removed all the catchiness. On the positive side, the pre-rendered backgrounds are pure kino, which is the only thing keeping me going.

Is Origins any better, or should I just abandon the series?

I'm Brazilian and recently fell into a rabbit hole looking into RPGs made by BR devs.
I realized games I already liked, like Virgo vs the Zodiac, were actually made by Brazilians.

I started noticing some patterns in the games:

a mix of anime, global indies, korean MMO, Cartoon Cartoons, underground art (rarely it's "pure" or just one influence)

>Humoristic tendencies
Even in serious games, there’s meta jokes, trope parodies, small gags, internet humor and fourth wall breaks.

>Strong JRPG roots
Lots of love for 90s Squaresoft, thanks to console piracy here.

>Tabletop RPG influence
3D&T and Dragão Brasil magazine shaped a lot of devs' creativity in mechanics, and "gambiarras", I guess.

BrRPGs are not about folklore or forcing Brazilian culture on you. It’s more about a chaotic, passionate energy, And specific influences acquired growing up being a RPG gamer here. It's Kinda like how Doujin games have a different flavor, I think BrRPG deserves to be a thing.

If this idea caught on, it could even retroactively frame a lot of older games we thought were just “small weird indies” into a bigger scene.

Can we talk about how good the writing is in this? It presents a grounded believable system for FTL travel that informs the rest of the game. It explores themes of racial superiority, eternal apocalyptic return, and synthetic life / artificial intelligence through a dark lovecraftian lens.

The codex is incredibly detailed and the level of world building around stuff like element zero just puts modern blue haired vidya writers to shame.

It’s also very based and suggests at times that genocide is a necessary evil. Wrex even describes the krogan as savage niggas that are not worth saving and who are more to blame for their own problems than the genophage.

Who thought it was a good idea to have BOTH absolute thresholds instead of rolls, and also checks that are 100% visible to the player?
I prefer RNG checks like in Fallout 1/2 (even the 3 system where the chance is visible), but an absolute value is fine if the player has limited information like in Age of Decadence. The way checks are implemented in New Vegas there is no chance to ever fail one.

Gonna be replaying Morrowind for the first time since it came out. I haven't played any Elder Scrolls game since then. I remember hearing some tip that you don't actually want to make your most commonly used skills into major/minor skills, because they end up raising too fast and you get poor stat increases on level up. Why is this game not discussed more frequently among the CRPG community? It's the most faithful adaptation of 3.5E D&D. It's focused on dungeon crawling.
