To me, there is a difference between criticism and critique – not everyone will agree with everything – not everyone has the vision to see beyond their own prejudice – many people have no education, many more have vast education, but still, a critical heart transfers hate, despite their degree’s and bits of paper. The negative critic transposes hurt, transgresses freedom of thought, criticises freedom of expression, becomes a bully. My own opinion of Eman is based on her nurturing of my daughter’s own wish to transgress the machismo of this profession, Eman’s warmth of heart and her own battles with prejudice. Eman has transgressed the politics of diverse hatred, while remaining a truthful skilled artist who is willing to share her eyeview of the changing disparate landscape that is her homeland, while sharing the wall with everyman from everywhere to capture seconds of time in beautiful positivity out of the negative of millimetres, land gained and lost in combat, lives lost with souls destroyed in seconds. Eman captures hearts on film. Self taught, selfless and brave, while holding child, Eman walked in old boots while heavily pregnant, to prove her eyes where not telling lie’s to her heart. As a child of Gaza, Eman has recorded history for the children, for my child, for all children. While overcoming child birth, seperation from family and her loving husband Saleh, this child of Gaza has proven that women are equal, if not greater, if not braver. And I have been so proud to know our Eman, an award winning photographer who gets better and better at her craft…

Hey Wissam,
I am not sure why are you spreading lies about Eman but none of what you said in your comment was backed up with any proof, you can write names but I cant find any work coming from Gaza from any other female photojournalists, I know your English is limited but there is a big difference between photographers and photojournalists. By posting this you are proofing to everyone what Eman is saying to be true, about being harassed by photographers like yourself, You are unprofessional and give Journalism a bad name, you should be ashamed of that.
Don’t be jealous of a young, talented photojournalist such as Eman if you have nothing to show for your career. She has accomplished a lot on her own, instead of attacking her you should appreciate it, since both of you are documenting and showing the world all the misery that Gaza has to go through. But I guess your kind only care about money and nothing more.

You are clearly not stating facts. Your text is close to imagination than actual facts and here is why.

1. I was the first photographer to give you camera in July 2007 and teach you in my official capacity as Maan news photographer.
2. Your claim that you are the only female photographer is baseless. I have also offered training opportunities to many female photographers, like Eman Juma and many many others. In Gaza, we have about 10 female photographers who are also recognised as professionals in the community. I have always encouraged woman photographers, as I know there is always great perspective which we male photographer are unable to capture during moments of conflict.
3. During the war in 2008-2009, we were all together and I know that you have not been left alone, as you described. It is just not right that say that. We should maintain our ethical values and professional skills in the same time. I was hoping you would declare those who have given you all support you need. I offered you our own equipments. I have also pushed my administration to offer you paid job, which you clearly deny in TED talk.

I take it that all these points I have mentioned are accurate. I am sure many of my colleagues will be disturbed to read such falsification of facts. Its a big disappointment for all our colleagues who shared pain of wars and who offered you all support you need.

You say “The formation of the Israeli state was unlawful…..”.

I ask you: unlawful ?????

On what basis you are saying it was unlawful ??? Israel was formed on the legitimate basis of UN decision in 1947, in which most of the nations voted in favor of establishing the Israel State. What was really unlawful that the Arabs rejected this legitimate UN decision and started an overall war against the newly born state, in order to destroy it. The Arabs lost this war and that’s why Israel survived and started prospering until today, while the Arabs remained stuck within their own jealousy and hatred, stuck in perpetuating more wars against Israel, instead of investing in doing good for their own civilians.

Those Palestinians who are refugees today are the victims of their own Arabic leaders who started the 1947-war against Israel. Most of these refugees are the children of the families who were asked by the Arab leaders…… I repeat…… ASKED BY THE ARAB LEADERS, to leave their homes and go away to secure places in order to spare themselves from the Arabic attacks on Israel during that war. The Arabic leaders promised them to let them back home securely once Israel is destroyed. But the Arabs failed in destroying Israel and those families became refugees, solely because of the irresponsible Arab leaders and their unlawful war against Israel.

You are talking about killing innocent civilians ????? Are you kidding ??? When did you watch your last news ?? In the past millennium ?? You the Muslims have killed and killing right today tons upon tons of your own innocent civilians. So many that Israelis hardly have killed even one-thousandth of that in all the wars against the Arabs. Instead of blowing off wild non-senses, try to look at your own ugly backyard of the Muslim murderous culture. Watch what’s going on even today in Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Nigeria [200 schoolgirls kidnapped by your Muslim brothers (terrorists)], Somalia….and so on.

If you still have the courage to look further back to your own murderous Islamic history, you will find that the Islam is the greatest occupier it the mankind history. Except Saudi-Arabia, where the Islam was founded, all other Islamic or partly Islamic nations today are the result of brutal Islamic occupations. And if you allow today the various Islamic people in all the countries to choose freely their own religion, your own women will be the first to run away from the oppressive Islamic culture and religion. And then also the Islamic masses will throw away the oppressive Ayatollahs and choose more moderate path. Just see what’s going on today in Iran.

Ah, yes, the Dome of the Rock, which Muslims so considerately built over the site of the Jewish Holy Temple (they have a habit of building mosques over churches, Hindu temples, etc. I suppose it represents dominance). I guarantee you that not a single “peacefully worshipping” Muslim was dragged away. I also guarantee you that any Muslim who was dragged away was throwing rocks at Jews or Christians who were in the vicinity, or otherwise violently rioting. Did you know that any Jew who passes through this Muslim site is prohibited from even silently mouthing prayers? Did you know that 67 Jews were massacred in Hebron in 1929 because Arab leaders lied to their drones that Jews had destroyed the al Aqsa Mosque, just to stir up trouble? This practice continues today, with accusations that the mosque is going to be destroyed tomorrow, and that archeological digs are really an attempt to undermine the foundation and cause it to collapse! Heaven forbid an earthquake ever hits the region and damages the Temple Mount. Arabs would accuse Israelis of causing the earthquake and would riot.
As far as “occupation” is concerned, 95% of Palestinians are actually ruled by either Hamas or the Palestinian Authority. The remainder are residents of Area C, established by the Oslo Accords, subject to Israeli jurisdiction for now. Big deal. They weren’t clamoring for their own country when Jordan was in charge, although they did try to overthrow the Hashemite kingdom. Israeli Arabs have far more rights under Israeli rule than Gaza Arabs get from Hamas or West Bank Arabs get from the Palestinian Authority. You should reorganize your priorities and outrage.

Such one-sided, biased drivel. Yes, Israel is Zionist. Most of the rest of the Middle East is Islamist. What’s your point, that Muslims have a right to their homelands, holy places, and self-determination, but Jews don’t? Houses are occasionally demolished when they were illegally built, and usually, such action is subject to review in the courts. Israel has building laws and requires building permits, just like every country, and all religions in Israel are subject to such building codes. Most of the settlements were built on open land – that’s why there are Arab villages and settlements. Any Arab who ever had his land “confiscated” could produce legal title and use the court system for his benefit. If he doesn’t have legal title, he is merely a squatter and has no more right to the land than I have the right to build a house in the middle of a city park. And what exactly makes it “our (Palestinian) land?” Because Jordan controlled it for 19 years? Because you’re Muslim? Ironically, Jews were buying plots of this land in the late 1800s (probably buying back their own ancestral land), but were kicked out during the ’48 war. Arabs may have moved onto or near this land from ’48-67, but that doesn’t cede the land to them. The land was stolen, all right; stolen from the Jews. It is confusing because the possession of the land was circuitous: Jews owned it, were conquered by the Romans, who lost it to the Ottoman Empire, who lost it to the British, who divided it between Arab Muslims and Jews, somewhat in line with approval by the League of Nations and later the U.N., subject to changes brought about on both sides by an aggressive war waged by 5 Arab armies against Israel in ’48 and by 3 Arab armies versus Israel in ’67. But all you apparently see is “Palestinian land.” I see 99.9% of the Middle East ruled by Muslims who aren’t willing to follow their own Koran, which mandates the Jews should have Israel. I see Muslims whining about Israel ruling its holiest city, Jerusalem, which isn’t mentioned even once in the Koran!
Finally, you combine “killing innocent citizens” and the “siege of Gaza.” This is also ironic, as Operation Cast Lead was triggered by thousands of terror missiles fired by your Hamas leaders, each one of which was aimed at innocent citizens. No terror missiles, no “siege of Gaza,” it’s that simple. That’s what you get when you elect terrorists to be your role models and leaders. Aren’t you ashamed that Palestinian leaders in both Gaza and the west bank name children’s sporting events after terrorist murderers of innocent citizens? You should be.

Kristina, your comments brought tears to my eyes…tears of sadness over your misunderstanding of history. Yes, there are 2 sides to this story, the side of truth (Jewish) and the side of lies. You are entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts. The facts are that Israel was a nation centuries before a single Arab lived there. The Jews were conquered and exiled many times, including by the Romans, who destroyed our Holy Temple, in 70 A.D. Even at that point, no Arabs lived there, and the Muslim religion would not exist for another 700 years! Tell me if I’ve misstated a single fact. Jews were scattered to the wind, but always yearned to return, and ironically bought back some of their own land, starting mainly in the 1800s, into the early 1900s. Of course, that was before the Palestinian Authority passed its racist law imposing the death penalty for selling land to a Jew! The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem pressured the British to prevent Jews from either entering the region or buying land (Muslim apartheid), which cost thousands of Jews their lives, because they were unable to find refuge from the Holocaust. You can easily find a picture of the Mufti’s meeting with Hitler, on the internet; they were close pals.
You claim that the formation of Israel was unlawful. How do you figure that? It was formed the same way Jordan was formed. Is Jordan unlawful? Obviously, you only consider it unlawful because of its Jewish character. If the dispute was Sunni/Shiite, you probably wouldn’t care. The bottom line is, if 5 Arab armies hadn’t genocidally attacked Israel the day of independence, there would be not a single Arab refugee. As it happens, there are only about 40,000 such refugees still living, despite the U.N.’s perverted definition of what constitutes a Palestinian refugee, which differs from every other definition of “refugee” in history. So if an Arab was born in Yemen and moved to the British Mandate in, say, 1935, and left in ’48, he’s magically no longer a Yemen Arab – now he’s a “Palestinian,” and his great- grandchildren, who never set foot in Israel, are also “Palestinians?” Don’t make me laugh at the absurdity!
