Citizen Doug Productions now has two Video Devices pix270i ‘s from Sound Devices. These remarkable recorders track to two hotswappable SSD’s and can support Dante and MADI with 64 tracks at 48kHZ. They accept SPMTE timecode on BNC’s as well as word clock. SDI and HDMI embedding and de-embedding a 3G are supported. This means Black Magic ecosystems are fully supported.

Paired with the Focusrite Rednet PCIeNX card in a Sonnet chassis, it makes a solid platform to record ProTools session for later post in sync with picture.

In this use case, a recent world premier was audio captured. 128 tracks at 48kHz are available, rolling on 30, in this case only hitting the host network with one pix270i then MADI via fiber to the second pix. This allows the ProTools network devices to live on a separate network without house admin and only two stabs on house network switches. Weirdly on a static, non-redundant network, one still needs two addresses for the pix, one audio one control, if you’re going to use browser controls

With the Rednet PCIEnx and two pix’s, 64 channels can track at 96kHz with full video sync compliance and backups that don’t crash

Channel counts have been going up and up. There are some typical limits, often around 64 channels, and then add audience mics and the occasional submix. Dante channel counts come in bit sized jumps. So now we offer channel counts from one to 128 and the capacity to upgrade to 256.

The Thunderbolt PCIe chassis has a Focusrite RedNet PCIeNX card and 8TB of Gen4 NVME storage.

The chassis is processor agnostic, illustrated above with a PC and just as happy with a Mac. There is also an additional NIC for non-Dante needs.

Sometimes you just have to use a transformer isolated split, and we can provide 64 channels of remote controlled preamps at up to 96 KHz or 32bit via Dante with our dual AudioScience IYO 32.0M. These can run off DC. Another 16×8 is available with an Allen and Heath DT168

Our trusty Video Devices Pix 270i provides MADI, SDI, AES, and HDMI conversion and embedding/de-embedding and SMPTE time code and Sync Referencing leader or distribution. This means, given a designed approach, video will not drift.

In June of 2018, Julye Newlin Productions hired Citizen Doug to provide location sound mixing for two days. We met Rebecca Carpenter, storied director of “Requiem For a Running Back” at her college friend’s house in the third ward. Constance Adams had asked Rebecca to film her final statements on an adventurous life. Constance was an architect for NASA and was responsible for significant orbital human spaces for the International Space Station and many other projects. Four days after the interviews, Constance died of cancer.

The resulting film was tabled during Covid, but Rebecca honored her friend’s request and finished “The Space Architect”, a remarkable 40 minute documentary. An ongoing premiere festival is touring “The Space Architect” worldwide, the Architecture & Design Film Festival

CP Communications hired Douglas Robertson to support game wireless microphones and intercom for TNT Sports coverage of the NLDS in Philadelphia and the NLCS in Milwaukee

In the above video an example of base mics is audible at the third base out. Systems from Shure, Lectrosonics, Radio Active Designs, and Phonak were utilized.

For the NLCS, a set of wireless Klover parabs with Axient transmitters, Lectro IFB, and Sound Devices MM-1 monitoring were deployed.

As always, it was an exciting challenge and an honor to support MLB Post Season Playoff Baseball.

Bulls TV hired Douglas Robertson to record Dennis Rodman during his reaction to the reveal of the Bulls Statement Edition Jersey. He candidly riffed on how he expresses his style of fit.

He was recorded with DPA 6060 lavs, Wisycom MTP60 and the Sound Devices 888. Timecode was a combination of Tentacle and Ambient devices with Lectrosonics IFB.

CP Communications coordinates the frequencies for the World Series and supported Fox Sports’ broadcast of the World Series and the MLB post season with wireless equipment: intercom, sound and video.

CP has developed a specialization in mic’ing players. Players have been Mic’d Up for the XFL 2.0, the USFL, and the UFL

Fight For Glory was produced by This Machine, whose RJ Cutler lists some of the sounds that CP provided to the film.

Citizen Doug jumped in as location audio recordist for a Transmission Creative helmed Netflix promo. “The Night Agent S2 Special Delivery” premiered with Netflix NFL live Streaming events on Christmas Day 2025. One sentence from the series star Gabriel Basso was used from the last two days of production at Conroe-North Regional Airport with the Netflix Blimp and at NRG Stadium. Basso was recorded in a open doored flying blimp utilizing a Wisycom MTP60 using 32 bit float and timecode provided by Tentacle Sync E and Ambient Nanolockit devices.

Thanks to Moffett Productions and Gilman Automotive for allowing me to record the Gilman Guy for over a decade. In 2024 we filmed on Moffett’s three wall cyclorama sound stage in Tomball, TX. Audio was recorded with Sound Devices 888, Wisycom MTP-60, and DPA 6060 microphones. English and Spanish market spots were produced.

Sound Devices under the name Video Devices Pix270i, this box records via Dante or MADI at 48kHz up to 64 tracks. It also supports 8 channels of analog line level and 8 channel of AES3 I/O. It also embeds and de-embeds SDI audio and cross converts 3G video while recording Pro Res 422. Dual hot-swappable 2.5″ SSD’s support simultaneous recording. The 270 can provide preferred clock and video reference with timecode which keeps drift to a minimum on long records. It runs on 12V DC on 4pin XLR.

It replaces our pix260i which may be referenced on this site. Citizen Doug Productions is happy to support live performances with audio and video recordings. Recently Performing Arts Houston asked us to archive their New Now 2024 world premieres which inspired this acquisition. As a drop-in robust recorder in DANTE, AES67, SMPTE2110 and MADI recordings, the pix270 provides comprehensive routing, monitoring, and gain controls that support our portable ProTools location playback/record and the DANTE enabled Sound Devices 888.
