This situation also shows why celebrities and social media can have a strong influence on young people. When teenagers constantly see edited photos, unrealistic beauty standards, or comments about someone’s body, they may start believing that they need to change themselves to fit those standards. Instead of judging people based on their appearance, celebrities, and the public should encourage healthy attitudes toward food, exercise and self-confidence. Grande’s situation is a reminder that teenagers should not compare their bodies to celebrities because everyone’s body is different and being a good role model should be more than appearance.
Teenagers may also feel pressure to follow extreme diets or exercise routines when they see discussions about a celebrity’s weight loss. These choices can be harmful if they are made without guidance from a doctor or trusted adult. Healthy habits should focus on getting enough food, sleep ,movement and support rather than trying to reach an unrealistic body shape. It is important for teens to remember that social media often shows only part of a person’s life and may not present a complete or accurate picture of their health.

The beginning of senior year makes everything feel more real as your visiting campuses, applying to scholarships, or thinking about what you want to study. As I asked senior Eva, ‘’What colleges are you considering?’’ She replied ‘’ I plan on attending a four year and some colleges I’m considering are University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University, or San Diego state.’’ Another senior Yoselyn was asked the same question and she replied ‘’ Some colleges I’m considering are 4 year colleges.’’ For others the traditional four year college isn’t necessarily the goal. When senior Mariah was asked the question ‘’What colleges are you considering?’’ She explained that “College isn’t my ultimate choice and I plan on attending trade school to pursue my career.’’
While focusing on their futures I decided to have seniors look back on their past and ask them “How do you think you’ve changed since freshman year?’’ For most freshman year can feel like forever ago. Looking back at freshman year gives seniors a chance to see how much they’ve grown and changed over the past 3 years. Senior Mia says “I’ve definitely grown and view things differently than how I did as a freshman.’’ Another Senior Yaretzi explains “My friendships have changed and now that I’m a senior I value my time more wisely.’’
Everyone has to make big decisions and start planning their future , but senior year ties back to making the best and showing how much they have grown throughout the last 4 years here at Don Lugo.
]]>For some teens the food and rides are a must do at the fair. As I asked one student, Dahlia, “What is the first thing you do when you arrive at the fair?” She replied “My first thing I do is get some fried oreos or a deep fried twinkie.” After having the delicious fair food, rides are next on the list. My next question was “ What is your go to fair ride?” She answered “My go to fair ride has to be the swings” These answers are just one example of teens who can enjoy the tasty food and thrilling rides.
To some teens keeping tradition is an important part of going to the fair. Some fair traditions can be things such as food, games and rides. There are many different types of food the fair has to offer, but one student Sophia chose a turkey leg because “it is just a classic staple fair food.” Along with the traditional food she also noted another fair tradition is “ for sure playing carnival games against my family” From favorite food to fun fair traditions each activity, and memory makes teens look forward to and want to come back to the fair year after year.
For other teens the most important part about the fair is the memories they make and get to look back on one. For one student, Chole shared her favorite memories from the fair day “ I had seen this teddy bear at a fair game. I knew I had to have it so I played the game and won the bear. I was so happy that I had finally won it ”Along with the memorable moments from the fair another thing that stood out to Chole is all the weird food there is to try at the fair. When asked about the weirdest food she had tried at the fair, Chole recalled the time she tried “fried butter” and how it’s something you’ll only see he fair. Whether it’s the games or the unusual food most teens have a memorable moment they can only experience at the fair.
Although each student had different favorite parts, traditions and memories from the OC Fair they each shared one thing in common, a reason they look forward to coming back next summer. Each answer was a unique experience at the fair made just for them. The OC Fair is more than just a place with fun rides, and weird food. It is a place to make new memories and traditions with family and friends each summer. Whether it is deep fried food, exciting rides, carnival games and prizes each part of the fair is a new experience. As the new year of school starts to begin the OC Fair will be waiting next summer for more memories to be made at the OC Fair.
