Exploring Brno’s Cabbage Market

Traveling for work usually means seeing more of conference rooms than city landmarks, but during my recent trip to Brno, I found a perfect balance. Nestled in the Czech Republic, Brno’s blend of historical charm and lively city energy was too inviting to pass up. After meetings, I had the chance to explore some of the city’s must-see spots, especially the bustling Zelný trh, or Cabbage Market, right in the heart of the city center. From early-morning visits to quick afternoon stops, I found myself drawn back to this vibrant square time and again. With different stalls, fresh produce, and a history that dates back centuries, the market became my go-to destination — both for a taste of local culture and as a place to recharge between work obligations.

Each visit to Brno’s Cabbage Market revealed something new. One of my favorite finds was a vegan gelato stand tucked between rows of fresh flowers and produce. The poppyseed raspberry flavor was unforgettable—sweet, tangy, with a hint of earthiness from the poppyseeds. It was the perfect pick-me-up during my afternoons in the square, making each visit even more memorable.

The market itself feels like a story unfolding with every step, and just a short walk from the stalls is Brno’s tribute to classical music: a life-sized statue of Mozart. The statue features Mozart with an adult face on a child’s body, which captures his incredible talent despite his young age during his visit. The single wing on his back adds a magical touch, suggesting both his extraordinary genius and the idea that he was still in the process of becoming, highlighting the potential he had yet to fully realize.

I was also fortunate enough to visit the labyrinth beneath the Cabbage Market, a hidden gem that dates back to the Middle Ages. I’ll be writing a post about my experience exploring this fascinating underground network soon, so stay tuned for that!

Additionally, I got to try burčák, a young wine that’s a local favorite during the harvest season. This semi-fermented grape juice is sweet, slightly fizzy, and bursting with fresh grape flavor—perfect for enjoying in the lively atmosphere of the market.

Now that I’m back, I’m excited to turn my favorite photos into prints. From bustling market scenes to my scoop of poppyseed raspberry gelato, these snapshots captured Brno’s charm. I’ll be using Shutterfly for printing, so I’m looking forward to seeing those moments come to life in print form.

Brno rewards every bit of wandering, even on a short stay. From lively market days to quiet moments savoring gelato and burčák, this trip left me with memories and photos I can’t wait to relive.

Vegan & Gluten-Free at Sebastian’s Bistro | Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Last night was date night! My husband and I went to try out Sebastians Bistro over at Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort. We parked at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, rode Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, looked at the shops, and then took the skyliner over to the resort. We got off at the Caribbean Beach Resort stop and walked to Sebastian’s Bistro.

We checked in and sat in the bar area outside the restaurant to wait for the restaurant to open.

We had a reservation at 4:30 p.m., right when the restaurant opened. We came here because they have a full plant-based menu!

The inside of the restaurant is small but very cute. I loved those chandeliers.

The pricing is pretty good for this family-style restaurant.

$20 per child (Guests Ages 3-9), plus tax and gratuity

$38 per adult, plus tax and gratuity

Alright, let’s get real about the food.

I talked with Chef David and he told me that everything is gluten-free except the fish cakes, which are made with vital wheat gluten. The bread pudding was also not gluten-free, and I would be provided with an allergy cupcake for dessert.

First up, Guava butter – move over, onion jam. This stuff was surprisingly good, with a sweet and tangy twist that made the taste buds do a happy dance. Served with allergy roles, this was a good start to the meal.

The salad was a pleasant surprise too – light, and fruity, and I went back for seconds. Salads aren’t usually my thing, but this one hit the spot. I really enjoyed the pumpkin seeds on the top – slightly sweet and crunchy.

The Fish Cake – remember this is NOT gluten-free – my husband said it didn’t taste like fish cake, which was a positive for him! He said it was pretty good.

Now, the tofu. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside – nailed it. And with that pineapple relish? Yeah, it became my go-to “meat” option.

The kebab held its own, tasty with the curry sauce. The sausage was cooked well but was just a plant-based sausage that you can get at a lot of different places.

The curry was tasty, but I thought it had too many onions floating around. I would have preferred more vegetables.

The Charred broccolini was surprisingly good – it still had a crunch and had the delish charred taste.

The rice and beans were a great accompaniment to all the ‘meats’.

Dessert, the Allergy Cupcake, was a letdown – gluten-free and plant-based but cold and hard. This cupcake is always better at room temperature. I did pour some of the Plant-based Caramel Sauce that came with the bread pudding on the cupcake, and that helped.

The bread pudding – not gluten-free – was a HUGE portion. My husband could not finish it, but he said it was really good – and he doesn’t usually like bread pudding.

Big downer – no to-go boxes. I knew there probably wouldn’t be but was hoping they might give me one anyway. I wanted to take home the salad. But, nope. Despite that, I’d pick Sebastion’s Bistro over Roundup Rodeo BBQ at Hollywood Studios any day.

After dinner, we walked to the Riveria Skyline, because it is actually closer to the restaurant than the Caribbean Beach stop. We walked down the path, crossed into the Caribbean Cay walkway, and then we were there. If you are visiting this restaurant from the skyliner, this is the stop to use to get closest.

In a nutshell, Sebastion’s Bistro is worth a shot. I would totally eat here again. Good food, good value, and a great gluten-free and vegan experience.

One of my family’s holiday traditions is to attend a Messiah Sing every year. Attending a sing-a-long is great because it brings together so many different parts of the community. You don’t have to be a good singer to enjoy yourself! Just go for it!

What is a Messiah Sing?

The Messiah was composed in just three weeks during the summer of 1741. It became a Christmas tradition while the composer was still alive and received annual benefit performances in London from 1750 until Handel’s death. From its soaring solos to the famous “Hallelujah” chorus, Messiah has earned a place among the favorite works for the Christmas Season.

Why should I attend a Messiah Sing?

Timeless Tradition: The Messiah by Handel is a timeless masterpiece, and participating in a sing-along allows you to be a part of a rich musical tradition that has delighted audiences for centuries.

I recently checked out EPCOT‘s Journey of Water attraction, and let me tell you, it was beautiful!

As I wandered along Moana’s Journey of Water trail, I got to hang out with water in all its forms. It’s not just a stroll; it’s an adventure where water takes you on a journey through the elements. The trail’s design is pure genius, allowing visitors like me to splash in puddles, watch waterfalls cascade, and interact with fountains that seem to dance to their own rhythm.

I found myself creating music by tapping the water spouts, and I couldn’t resist chasing waterfalls, just like TLC’s song suggests. There’s a delightful sense of playfulness in every water feature, making it impossible not to giggle like a child.

Disney On Ice presents Frozen and Encanto

Mirabel tells the tale of her amazing family and her journey to save the casita, her enchanted family home, alongside her sisters: Isabela, whose perfection radiates with her ability to make plants grow and flowers bloom with every step, and Luisa, with the gift of super strength that she uses to help her village move buildings and reroute rivers.

For the first time live, fans can witness Tia Pepa, who can control the weather with her emotions; her husband Felix; their daughter Dolores, with her gift to hear; and Bruno, the mysterious and misunderstood Madrigal family member whose visions foretold the future.

In the end, audiences will learn that everyone has their own gifts, magical or not, and being true to yourself and loving those around you is what makes you special. YOU are the magic!

Synopsis

PAWS OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF HANK – A hard-on-his-luck hound Hank (Michael Cera) finds himself in a town full of cats who need a hero to defend them from a ruthless villain’s (Ricky Gervais) evil plot to wipe their village off the map. With help from a reluctant teacher (Samuel L. Jackson) to train him, our underdog must assume the role of town samurai and team up with the villagers to save the day. Review

I wasn’t expecting much from PAWS OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF HANK, but I was very surprised! From the opening credits, you know you are going to laugh. The all-star ensemble cast makes what is pretty well-worn territory a hilarious farce that has age-appropriate jokes for all the audience members—even the grown ones. Mel Brooks proves that his unique flavor of parody can translate to any screen and any audience. This is a wonderful movie to help with community-building because it makes audiences laugh as they explore some social issues through the dynamic relationship between the town of cats and their new samurai. This movie was enjoyed by the adults and the 5-year-old alike!

Unhappy in your Job? Try these tips!

This past year I found that I was very unhappy in my job. So, I did something about it and now I have a new career in Instructional Design.

Here are some tips to decrease your unhappiness at work and move toward a happier situation.

Determine what you Dislike

What is it about your job that made you find and read up to this point in this article? Is it boring? Does it not pay well enough? Is it too stressful? Does it require too many or too few hours? If you’re going to make a change, the last thing you want is to be in the exact same situation you’re in now when you get to a new job. Figuring out exactly what it is you dislike will allow you to find a job that doesn’t have that characteristic.

Find a Good Fit

Once you have pinpointed what it is you don’t like about your current job, it’s time to find a job or career that you think you’d enjoy. Google is your friend for this process! Try searching for lists of jobs or lists of jobs in certain categories (e.g., “marketing jobs” or “healthcare jobs”). When you find one that seems interesting, narrow your search by looking for information about that specific job such as responsibilities, typical schedule, education required, etc. At this stage, don’t worry if you’re not 100% sure if you will like the career. We will find out more about it in a later step.

Research and Make a Plan

Did you find a career that looks interesting? Awesome! Now, it’s time to research. You should be looking for what the educational requirements are for that career, if any, and how you can transition from your current job into that job. Sometimes the transition can be as smooth as submitting an application and a resume, and other times you might need additional education. After you research, jot down a quick list of steps to getting the job.

Start Your Plan

Move through the steps you outlined to start your journey. I would highly recommend taking low-cost or free online courses on the topic prior to committing to additional formal education. For many jobs, additional formal education isn’t a requirement! Websites such as Udemy, Coursera, and LinkedIn Learning can help you learn about a job (or even get certifications) for a low cost.

Hire Professionals

There are a variety of professionals you can hire to help with your journey to more happiness at work. First, you could hire a resume writer to assist with a job search and help spice up your resume. An alternative option, if you are wanting (or need) to stay in your current job, is a mental health professional. Seeing a therapist can be useful for anyone! Finally, hiring professionals to help around the house can help free up your time. This will allow you to devote more time to searching for a new career. You can hire a housekeeper to help keep things clean, or if you are planning on moving (for a new job or not!), you can hire a moving company to do the heavy lifting for you. Celebrate Small Steps

Making changes in your professional life can take some time and effort. Make sure you are acknowledging the big steps AND the small steps in your life! Although the ultimate goal is to be happier at work, you don’t have to wait until you have a new job to celebrate. Did you find a career that looks interesting? Celebrate! That’s step one! Finish revamping your resume? Celebrate! Make sure you are being gentle on yourself and feel accomplished that you are taking steps to improve your life.

Choose your Mentality

As I mentioned before, starting a new job or career can take time. Don’t let this time be miserable. Sometimes, even knowing that you’re taking steps to escape your current situation can make it seem more bearable to get up and go to work everyday. Use that motivation and energy to keep you going. You can do it!
