ON THE AVENUE: SE DELANEY AVENUE

Annex's Southeast Delaney Avenue (alternately Delaney Road/Street) is patterned after the direction, flow, and scope of Portland's Southeast Milwaukie Avenue.

Delaney Avenue runs alongside the mysterious swamp region (inspired by Oaks Bottom and Clark County's Burnt Bridge Creek), south to Woodbury and an amusement park beyond. As such, Delaney Avenue is home to a streetcar route transporting riders north to downtown Harborview or south to the next neighborhood of Woodbury.

The primary setting of Annex is the intersection of homes and lives at SE Delaney Avenue and its cross-street of Wayland Avenue.

You may be caught up on Annex... but haven't you ever wondered what happens between seasons?

Coming this fall, Annex: Between Seasons presents weekly vignettes of life occurring in Harborview between the end of the second season (1917) and the beginning of Annex's upcoming third season (1924).

The scolds Vi and Freddie update listeners on what's happening to Annex's Diana, Lois, Nancy, Helen, Garnet, Olivia, and others in the years between U.S. entrance into World War I and the midst of the Jazz Age.

Settings for Annex: Between Seasons were inspired by Portland's SE Milwaukie Avenue, Sellwood, Union Station, Meier and Frank, the South Park Blocks, the Virginia Cafe, Oaks Bottom, Old Town, and many others. Freddie and Vi rove Annex's Harborview in search of dirt and they're always listening.

A preview of "Devil Baby," in which Freddie finds himself in the grips of a neighborhood urban legend regarding Diana Shackelford's newborn daughter.

ON THE AVENUE: THE SHACKELFORD CO.

On Annex, the multi-story downtown Harborview office building housing the land-developing Shackelford Co. (run by Donovan Shackelford and his aide-de-camp Helen Kidwell) is based upon Portland's Wells Fargo Building (1907, Benjamin Wistar Morris III).

Also known as the Porter Building and located at 309 SW 6th Avenue, the steel-framed 12-story Wells Fargo Building was, at the time of its completion, considered Portland's first skyscraper.

Such a perch overlooking downtown, the river, and Southeast Harborview on the opposite bank, is a fitting lair for Donovan, Helen, and office intrigue.

The Shackelford Co. office is introduced in Season 2, Episode 5 ("Chilton Trash").

ON THE AVENUE: WOODBURY

Annex's Woodbury neighborhood, located on the south side of the fictional port city of Harborview, OR, was inspired by Portland's historic Sellwood, especially the 13th Avenue commercial district.

Freddie and Vi's tea shop, located on Woodbury's commercial avenue, was derived from any number of long-vanished coffee houses and tea shops found in early twentieth-century Portland. Their tea shop first appears in Season 2, Episode 1 ("Temperatures Rising").

ANNEX: BETWEEN SEASONS takes place between 1917 and 1924, the pivotal years following ANNEX's second season, while also previewing the upcoming third season.

Each week, a new mini-episode updates ANNEX listeners on life at Delaney Avenue in Harborview, Oregon through the perspective of gossips Vi and Freddie, voiced by ANNEX's Kris McCarter and Andrew Fleetwood. Suzanne Owens-Duval will guest-star as ANNEX's Garnet Shackelford and provide narration.

26 mini-episodes, set in a variety of locations inspired by Portland and Sellwood-Moreland history, will precede ANNEX's third season (occurring in 1924).

Find out what happened after S2 and get to know the neighbors before S3 arrives. Production on ANNEX: BETWEEN SEASONS is underway, with the first mini-episode launching later this year to be followed with weekly mini-episodes on Libsyn, Youtube, and other platforms.
