People around the world have been waiting for a movie about Michael Jackson that really shows his life and music. The new Michael Jackson movie is out now. It is even better than people thought it would be. The movie tells an emotional story and it shows Michael Jackson performing his famous songs. It is a powerful and personal movie.

The movie shows how Michael Jackson became a star when he was young and was in the group The Jackson 5. It then shows how he became the famous musician in the world. The movie does not just show the times it also shows the hard times and the sacrifices he had to make to be famous.

Making the Story Real

One of the things about the movie is the acting. Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson does a job of acting like Michael Jackson. He sounds like him moves like him and performs like him. When you watch the movie you feel like you are at a Michael Jackson concert. The movie shows some of his famous songs like Billie Jean, Thriller and Beat It.

The movie also shows the times Michael Jackson had to deal with. It shows how he felt when people were mean to him and when he had problems. These parts of the movie make it very emotional and real.

Big Hit

The movie is also doing well at the box office. A lot of people went to see it on the weekend including old fans and new fans. The movie might even be one of the grossing music movies ever made.

Some people are comparing it to the movie about Elvis starring Austin Butler. That movie was very good. The Michael Jackson movie seems to be loved by even more people around the world.

The Michael Jackson movie shows that people still love movies about musicians if they are made well. Movies like Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis were very popular. The Michael Jackson movie might be even better.

The new Michael Jackson movie is amazing. It has performances, a good story and it is doing very well at the box office. Whether you are a fan of Michael Jackson or you just, like good movies you should see this one.

      As teenagers we get caught up in buying our produce and materials in our local malls and grocery stores, but often forget the work and how it started. As new rising technology comes to shine, the business industry booms, especially after Covid-19 where everyone was looking for something to keep them busy and gain money. However, throughout the last six years small businesses have often been overshined by new and trendy big businesses. 

The Inside of Small Business 

The Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce  Fair  hosted May 16 is a great opportunity in showcasing small businesses. The fair hosted over 100 local artisans and vendors including a wide range of restaurants, clothing and woodcrafts. A local business vendor  run by Sophomore, Emily Katz of Cheerful Crochet, says “Small businesses are talked about but not supported and spread enough.” Small businesses get shut down in their first year due to financial instability from not having enough support and a wider range of customers due to competition, failing by 20% in their first year and 50% by their fifth year. 

Just as shown through the Woodbridge Metro Chamber of Commerce Fair, small business play a big role, often resembling the backbone of the economy and employing over 62,000,000 people, yet creating competition. 

Katz mentioned, “Being a business owner comes with the difficulty knowing that more people I knew wanted to support me rather than strangers, but there are so many other businesses selling the same products, for me I am a 15 year old business entrepreneur. With young entrepreneurs we often get overlooked not because of our products but rather our age. ”

Perspective from a Business Owner and a student 

Emily Katz is a Sophomore who has been active in her community and constantly going from one activity to the other. Whether it’s horseback riding, tennis, boxing, jiu jitsu or her small business Cheerful Crochet. While once scared to start her small business, it all takes a seed to plant the rest of the story. For her, she shared that her creativity and skill should be shared to others not only to inspire but show her potential, but the fear of rejection and uniqueness is what teenagers often hold back to start a small business. 

Sophomore Sydney Lowerie, another local entrepreneur and owner of Simple Stitches said, “I try to make my business both original and unique by coming up with ideas and products that wouldn’t be common to find, but still popular. It helps especially if the product has bright colors and nice packaging.” 

Show uniqueness in the business community 

There is that word “overlooked” that many business owners take fear of. Being unique for small business can be hard yet it is important to be true to yourself and what your customers like more of. Taking the step in replacing your everyday trendy manufactured items for a small item to support small business can urge others to start a business and allow it to grow in both community and support! Senior sunset is an event that lets all graduating seniors come together and enjoy one of their final school affiliated events while watching the sun set with classmates.

Tickets are $15 (cash only) and sell from May 11 to May 29. The tickets cover a meal for an entree, a beverage, and a dessert. 

The event will take place on the Woodbridge High School football field and will be on June 3rd. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. so be sure to have a way to get home.

Seniors will have the opportunity to spend time with friends, enjoy good food and participate in various activities before the school year sets on June 23.

“I’m excited for the upcoming event,” said Hector. “I just hope there’s going to be good food.”

The event will include a variety of foods from the Good Mood food truck such as Burgers, Avocado tacos, fries, mac and cheese, and more.

“I hope WHS continues this tradition,” said Bilal.”This event allows me to hang out with my school friends.”

Many seniors are looking forward to this event because it gives students a chance to make final memories together before graduating. Senior sunset is expected to bring memorable experiences to close out the year.

In the first round of the NBA playoffs a couple of things to talk about around the Knicks can they win a championship with this team. 

“The Knicks believe their time is now,” said an article written by ABC News before the playoffs started.

The result of the series culminated in a game six 140-89 blowout. A show that the Knicks, when playing well, can beat anyone easily. Games two and three, however, showed that its not impossible for this team to play bad and lose games they should be winning. 

“Trailing the Atlanta Hawks 2-1 when they could feasibly be up 3-0 instead is frustrating enough on its own,” said Dan Favale in an article for DailyKnicks. “It becomes downright gut-wrenching when looking at what’s happening in the series between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers.”

Jalen Brunson is obviously the main star, but what really matters the most if these Knicks want to win a championship is the other role players playing well. Mikal Bridges went game three with 0 points in 21 minutes, and the Knicks will need him to play better to advance further. Its commonly known that if Karl Anthony-Towns gets hot from three, the game changes completely. Jalen Brunson and the Knicks dont need to play their hero ball if everyone can get their opportunities throughout these playoffs. Its all up to the players if they want to make it to the Finals, but for the Knicks, its now or never.

Normalizing Mental Health

Despite there being changes in the way people view mental health, it is still a taboo topic for others to bring in. In older generations, it was often dismissed and still not taken seriously for the grave subject it is. However, that does not mean that all hope was lost in the battle of fighting for mental health advocacy. Many influencers and companies have fought for more support and attention to the matter such as Selena Gomez, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Demi Lovato. Along with how there are many resources and improved technology towards mental health in which it truly demonstrates how far we have come. 

Mental Health Through the Eyes of Student

Rhia Campos is a sophomore at Woodbridge High School who has expressed that, “I believe that mental health is such a taboo because of the way people are afraid to speak up about things that aren’t talked about or normalized enough.” She also states that, “Mental health has affected society so much due to the fact that so many people struggle with it and have taken their lives because of the lack of help and their fear of talking about it.” Mackenzie Wilson is another sophomore who claims that, “I think that there is a stigma attached to it because people are afraid of having something “wrong” with them.” Which concludes that people with mental health often aren’t treated with the same amount of respect and are oppressed due to the stigma around mental health. 

Speaking Out On Mental Health

Rhia states that, “With the involvement of social media, I have seen mental health worsen and improve because of it. I’ve seen many people online that make videos to help and reach out while also bringing awareness to mental health.. But, I have also seen people online bully others based on their bodies, opinions to make others insecure and suffer.” Madison Collins, a sophomore who also agrees with the following, “Though controversial, I think the media itself is a problem with mental health as I’ve seen people trying to advocate for mental health through the media but I don’t think the message has fully resonated yet.” 

Improvements Moving Forward

Although the spread of advocacy for mental health has come a long way from the 1900s, it can still be improved in the world, not just including school or work environments as both students agree that it can be improved. People should challenge themselves everyday to make a solid effort in helping those who struggle with mental health issues.

The new Toy Story 5 movie is set to be released this year in theaters on June 19. This will be the newest addition to the Toy Story franchise since its last release back in 2019, about seven years ago.

Many children from the 90’s through the 2010’s grew up seeing these movies as part of their childhood. The franchise grew so much that they started selling their own original toys and characters from the Toy Story movies.

The original Toy Story movie was released back in 1995, which was the first fully computer-animated feature film and led to revolutionize the animation industry. This movie itself paved the way for today’s modern era of digital filmmaking and was the first animated movie to earn a special Achievement Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

The movie mainly focused on the private life of toys when they aren’t being played with. The main characters are a young boy named Andy and his collection of living toys. Central characters include his toys Sheriff Woody and space ranger Buzz Lightyear. Other toys like Mr. Potato Head, Rex, Hamm, Slinky Dog, and Bo Peep serve as supporting characters throughout the franchise. Mrs. Potato Head’s character was later mentioned towards the end of the film.

A Film Reimagined

It wasn’t until Disney and Pixar released Toy Story 2 in 1999, a direct sequel to the original 1995 film. In the sequel, the film seamlessly expands its universe by introducing memorable characters like Jessie, and Bullseye, who also serve as side characters throughout the film. The film also consists of three alien toys who later become Andy’s.

The film’s production faced a near-disaster when 90 percent of the movie’s files were accidentally deleted from Pixar’s servers. Fortunately, a technical director working from home due to maternity leave was able to recover a backup of the project that was saved.

Toy Story 3 released in 2010, is a massive milestone in animation history and holds the distinction of being the first animated film to ever cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office. It won two Academy Awards. It was one of only three animated films to be nominated for the prestigious Oscar for Best Picture.

In Toy Story 3 however, main protagonists consist of Woody, Buzz, and Jessie, who try to fill the void of no longer having an owner as Andy leaves off to college. The movie introduces many other characters of which belong to Bonnie, the young girl Andy will end up giving his childhood toys to.

The last Toy Story movie Disney and Pixar released was Toy Story 4 back in 2019. It mainly focused on Bonnie’s new toy Forky and the abandonment she presented towards Woody, who later became a “lost toy” and decided to live free without being claimed. The movie was the first in the franchise to be produced in a wide 2.39:1 aspect ratio to accommodate Woody’s broader adventures.

Changing With The Times

In more recent years, younger children have been introduced to technology more than most adults or teenagers as kids.

Director Andrew Stanton says that the new Toy Story 5 film is based on the “realization of an existential problem: that nobody’s really playing with toys anymore.”

The movie will focus on what it means to stay relevant when technology tries to reshape playtime. Because of this, the movie will tackle the plot of the modern era, showing toys facing off with screens and tablets along with new leader Jessie, the gang, and other fan familiar favorites that are set to return to help.

Instead of the regular G rating that the Toy Story movies usually get marked under, the new movie is the first of the franchise to receive a PG rating and the first entry to release in the 2020’s.

As not much information about the movie is provided, the plot is out there to grab the attention of viewers as it’s not only a child movie, but also to touch on a real world issue.

“Joshua Van let anyone who questioned his championship mettle heading into UFC 328 know that he is the real men’s flyweight champion.” Said Brent Okamoto of EPSN

With Van’s last fight being against the former flyweight champion Alexandre Pentoja it had people questioning weather he really is a fit to be champion but with his stoppage win in the 5th round and just how dominate he was on feet in this fight proved all the fans wrong. Van having 131 significant strikes to Tairas only 55, Van was all over Taira all night and it shows by the way his face looked by the end of the fight. 

“Simply put, Van is the real deal, and there’s no question who the real champion of the division is.” Said by Andres Hale of ESPN

The Main Event which was also for the belt, between Champion Khazmat Chimaev the belt holder, and the challenger Sean Strickland, was a fight for the ages. Strickland came into the fight with as a 4-1 underdog to win the championship. He ended up winning by split decision 48-47 with Strickland’s highlight of the fight and also the “Precise Moment” (MMA Global Video) 

Being in the second round where Strickland was seen out wrestling the champ Chimaev. Then also landing a overhand which stunned Chimaev and ultimately gave Strickland control of the entire rest of the round. Stickland landed more significant strikes, 123 to Chimaev’s 98, which was also a key factor in the ultimate decision in the end. As the event ended at 10, a group of students, Thomas, Juli,Briana, Aneesa and analia decided to go out a eat together, sharing photos they took.

Other students also went out to eat, and involved themselves in other activities like after parties and sleepovers.

“There was a lot of people, but it was fun dressing up and seeing everyone else’s dresses.” Briana shared, stating that there were so many different color dresses, and that everyone looked amazing. 

Thomas claimed the best part of his night was when he was dancing with his friends, and taking pictures on his digital camera. 

Students enjoyed taking pictures.

STUDENT THOUGHTS

“I made a lot of TikToks,” Briana stated, “I’m glad i did because i need to remember this.” 

 Thomas was happy to see some of his friends from different schools.

“It was nice, i’m glad i got to spend time with my friends.” – Aneesa stated. 

Thomas shared he wasn’t a party person, and during parties he’s usually quiet but being around his friends made him less introverted.

“I really liked it, i thought it was fun” – Analia shared.

Students were focused on how cotillion would be decorated, many others also focused on the music and the vibe of cotillion.

“I was scared to dance at first,” Thomas shared “And then i stopped being scared because everyone was dancing.” 

Students enjoyed the colorful lights, and the bright environment cotillion gave off. 

The night ended off with friends sharing there goodbyes.

leaving students satisfied with their purchase and thankful to have experienced this time with friends.

Students in school shared mixed opinions about whether school should start later than the usual schedule, they say early mornings affect their sleep, focus and school performance. Not only students shared opinions, teachers and parents also weighed in on how changing the schedule could impact students’ daily routines .

Many students said they often felt tired during first period classes. An student said, “I normally don’t get enough sleep hours, so it’s hard to focus in the morning when your eyes are closing.” Other students added that starting school later could help them feel more awake with ore energy and improve their grades and performance. However, not all students agreed. Another student said, “Even if school started later, I would probably still stay up late on playing games or just getting distracted by my phone.” This shows that sleep habits also play a huge role in how students feel during the school day.

School Staff Discussion

Teachers also noticed some things in the classroom. One teacher said, “A lot of students seem tired during the first block, and it affects how well they participate in class.” The teacher also said that while a later start time could help, this might also affect after-school schedules, sports, and other activities that are done during school time. Meaning they might have to change a lot of routines if the start time is changed.

Parents also had different opinions on the issue. One parent said, “If school started later, my child would get more sleep and be more focused in class.” However other parents said changing the schedule could create problems with their work routines and transportation since some students are taken by their parents to school .

Overall, students, teachers, and parents all agreed that sleep and school performance are connected, everyone has different opinions in a solution to this problem. The discussion about school start times is going to continue since everyone has a different perspective of the problem and schools try to figure out how to overcome this issue.

The Film in itself 

    The musical film started as an idea produced by Lin Muanuel Miranda in his sophomore year at Wesleyan University that reflected the struggle of the American dream and a place of home. The musical features Antony Ramos, who plays the main lead character, Usnavi, a bodega owner, a friend, a brother who is struggling in running the business in financial stress, pressures of success and navigating life as his dreams become a question of his future. The characters touch on how a dream can be so untouchable until the possibility of the family winning the lottery jackpot of $96,000 that finally allows it to become reality. The film holds the little dreams that as little kids we hold that shapes into a more broader view as we grow older. 

Its Effect on the Industry 

   Despite the film not being based on a true story  the authentic portrayal of life through the characters sparked  audiences throughout the U.S.   The film allows hidden voices to speak out and embrace more than the stereotypes about Latino culture but also highlighting that tight knit community and joy that produces out of it.  In the Heights set the foundation for more opportunities for actors both of Latino and colored in the industry and people. As of the early 2000s the Latin and colored  community  has seen a rise of Latino filmmakers in representing Latin and colored stars. Films like 2025 film Sinners, featuring Southern Black culture, 2021 Encanto celebrating Colombian culture, and 2022 film Turning Red exploring East Asian Canadian culture. 

Culture in films that initially only  represented stereotypical lives in the rise of the Civil Rights Movement now represent the more broader view of culture. In the Heights, will be returning  featuring new casting members while  countinuing in presenting the vibrant culture and life. 

     Paris, a Sophomore in Woodbridge High School adds, “ I would like to see more films that are not just featuring one sole particular thing about such culture, with diverse films in culture I believe will inspire and bring new opportunities to future generations.”
