]]>CERIC is accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Graduate Student Engagement Program (GSEP), which supports the academic and professional development of master’s and doctoral students whose research relates to career development.
GSEP exists to connect the next generation of career development researchers with the wider field, and to give them practical support to share their work and build their networks. Members join a cohort of peers from across the country and work with recognized experts in the field, with access to CERIC’s platforms and resources.

Members are also eligible to compete for the GSEP Award, which carries a $1,000 prize and complimentary registration for Cannexus.
Both full-time and part-time students enrolled at a Canadian university are eligible. Students come from a range of disciplines – career development, counselling psychology, adult education, sociology, human resources and others – and are encouraged to apply if their research connects to career development.

]]>CERIC is welcoming proposals from individuals and organizations – including those in the education, community and private sectors – for research and learning projects that respond to emerging priorities and strengthen career development policy and practice across Canada.
Funding supports innovative initiatives that enhance the evidence base and generate practical tools that build capacity and contribute to improved career exploration, decision-making and services across diverse contexts.
Projects may address any career development topic where a knowledge gap exists. Priority will be given to proposals aligned with the following areas:
These priorities reflect a focus on equity and inclusion, policy and program impact, innovative and blended service delivery, mental health and workplace well-being, , early career literacy and effective practice during periods of labour market disruption.
As the second of CERIC’s two annual open calls for proposals, this is the final opportunity to apply for funding in 2026. Detailed funding guidelines, FAQs and application resources are available to help prepare and/or strengthen your submission.
Recent funded projects have explored how employers can build internal career centres, as well as internship models and youth job-readiness supports. Prospective applicants are invited to learn more about the project funding process.

]]>Canada’s premier bilingual career development conference, Cannexus27, is now open for registration with Super Saver rates available until September 9. The conference will take place from January 25-27, 2027, both virtually and in-person at the Rogers Centre in Ottawa.
This years theme, Navigating Uncertainty, Creating Possibility, reflects the challenges and opportunities shaping career development across Canada today. Economic volatility, AI disruption and skills mismatches are transforming how people navigate learning, work and career transitions – and career development professionals, educators and workforce leaders offer a vital source of direction and action.
Super Saver rates for the virtual conference start at $350 and in-person rates start at $644. Members of supporting organizations receive 20% off either virtual or in-person registration. The 20% discount is also available for groups of 5 or more from the same organization. Students can take advantage of discounted pricing. All delegates get access to the virtual recordings after the conference for three months.
This year’s optional pre-conference workshop in Ottawa, “Beyond the Algorithm: Strengthening Career Counselling Practice When Clients Need You Most,” will be presented by Sonny Wong. Building on insights from his 2026 Cannexus Keynote, the workshop invites participants to apply career development theories to examine clients’ career-life stage challenges and strengthen their counselling competencies when supporting individuals experiencing career crises. Participants will explore ethical and impactful ways to balance the “human hand” with the “AI hand” and reimagine the practice of career development in an AI-integrated landscape.
Cannexus27 keynote announcements are also underway, beginning with Dr. Samra Zafar, who will take the stage on Tuesday, January 26. A physician, award-winning speaker, best-selling author and expert on authentic leadership, belonging and inclusive wellness, Zafar combines science-backed insights with lived experience to help leaders build resilient, inclusive workplace cultures and create lasting impact.
On Wednesday, January 27, Duncan McCue will take the keynote stage. An award-winning broadcaster, author and Professor of Indigenous Journalism and (Story)telling at Carleton University, McCue is a respected leader in decolonizing journalism. Through his journalism, teaching and writing, he has spent decades advancing respectful Indigenous storytelling, fostering reconciliation and helping Canadians better understand Indigenous perspectives.

The Marilyn Van Norman Bursary is open to support community-based career development or employment practitioners to attend the in-person Cannexus conference and the Young Professionals Bursary is also open for emerging employment and career development practitioners to attend the virtual portion of the Cannexus conference. ]]>CERIC has published its 2025 Annual Report, Meeting the Moment – Career Development in a Disrupted World of Work, documenting a year of expanded reach, new learning infrastructure and deepened advocacy for career development as a public good.
The report reflects a pivotal year for the organization – a year that marked the culmination of one strategic plan and laid the groundwork for its next chapter. As AI, economic uncertainty and labour market disruption continued to reshape the world of work, CERIC strengthened its public messaging, broadened its partnerships and made professional learning more flexible and accessible than ever before.
Among the year’s highlights:
The report is organized around two strategic mandates: promoting career development as a priority for the public good, and building career development knowledge, mindsets and competencies among those who support Canadians through learning, work and transition.

]]>Career development in Canada is at a turning point. The forces reshaping work – from AI to economic uncertainty and mental health – are creating both new pressures and new opportunities for the professionals who help people navigate them. CERIC’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan is a response to that moment, and a commitment to meeting it with intent.
At the core of the plan is a vision that speaks to everyone: a Canada where every individual can confidently navigate their career journey with purpose, possibility and support. It is a vision that recognizes the essential role that career development professionals play in making that possible – and one that will anchor CERIC’s work over the coming five years.
“The world of work is evolving in ways that are profound and unpredictable,” said Kay Castelle, Executive Director of CERIC. “Career development professionals are on the front lines of that change every day. This plan is aimed at strengthening their capacity and elevating their impact in supporting the people they serve.”
Grounded in values, focused on impact
The strategic plan was developed through a broad consultative process that engaged close to 100 people across the career development community. What emerged was both an affirmation of what makes CERIC’s work valuable and a call to focus where it can have the most benefit.
The plan is anchored by four core values: equity, collaboration, integrity and bold leadership. Together with CERIC’s mission – to champion and advance career development through learning, research and advocacy to improve the economic and social well-being of people in Canada – they set the foundation.

To deliver on that mission, CERIC has identified three strategic priorities:

]]>CERIC is expanding access to practical, evidence-based learning for francophone and bilingual career development professionals. New offerings include a self-paced course focused on strengthening client motivation, an on-demand recruitment webinar series in French and additional Learning Hub webinars with French subtitles. Together, these resources support professionals in strengthening their practice, earning certificates and learning at their own pace.
Online course: Ignite Motivation
CERIC’s first online course, Ignite Motivation, is now available in French. Designed by Dr. Jason Cressey, this one-hour, self-paced course provides career professionals with practical, evidence-based strategies to enhance client engagement, address motivational challenges and foster meaningful progress.
Available for $49, the course offers actionable techniques that professionals can apply immediately to strengthen their practice and better support clients in achieving career success.
New French-language webinar series on recruitment now available on demand for career development professionals.
CERIC has also launched a new French-language on-demand webinar series for career development professionals: Recruitment: Supporting Jobseekers and Employers.
In this three-part recorded series, Julie Labrie, a bilingual recruitment specialist and recognized thought leader in Canada, offers concrete strategies to help jobseekers stand out and support employers in identifying candidates who truly match their needs.
Available for $90, participants will explore both sides of the recruitment process to better support individuals, teams and organizations in a competitive job market.
Expand skills with on-demand webinars
CERIC’s Learning Hub also offers 17 on-demand webinars designed to help career professionals strengthen their skills and advance their practice. Seven webinars now include French subtitles, making this learning more accessible to francophone and bilingual professionals across Canada.
Participants can track their progress, earn certificates and complete training at their own pace. Featured on-demand webinars with French subtitles include: The State of Career Development, Military to Civilian Transitions, Computing Careers in 2025, Navigating 2040 and Beyond, Career Practice Principles, Empowering Educators and Canada’s Career Development Landscape.

]]>The Canadian Journal of Career Development (CJCD) has been awarded a $150,000, three-year Aid to Scholarly Journals grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
This funding will support CJCD’s continued development as the only peer-reviewed Canadian journal dedicated to career development, helping to share research, best practices and diverse Canadian perspectives while highlighting contributions from career development colleagues around the world.
“It strengthens our foundation for innovation and opens the door to exciting possibilities ahead as we continue advancing scholarship and practice in career development,” CJCD shared in an announcement. The grant comes at an important time for the journal, which is preparing to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2027.
CJCD is a partnership project between CERIC and Memorial University of Newfoundland with the support of The Counselling Foundation of Canada. CJCD is a peer-reviewed, open-access publication focusing on career-related academic research and best practices from Canada and around the world.
It was founded by the late Dr. Rob Shea and continues under the leadership of Chief Editor Dr. Jennifer Browne and Associate Editor Diana Boyd.
CJCD is published twice a year, once in digital format in the fall and then in both print and digital formats in the winter. It is free to subscribe to the digital editions and all issues of the journal dating back to 2002 are available to access online.
