Mainline Pharmacy successfully defended its AAABA Tournament championship in a hard-fought 5-2 victory over perennial power New Orleans Boosters and made history as the first Johnstown squad to win the crown in back-to-back seasons.

A Sargent’s Stadium at the Point crowd of 2,768 watched the local team build a 5-0 advantage through five innings and then hold off a determined New Orleans group that had mounted late-inning comebacks in victories during both the semifinal and quarterfinal rounds.

The Boosters (5-1) had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth when Johnstown reliever Bryce Madden fanned the only batter he faced to close the game and set off a celebration near the mound and throughout the stands.

Mainline Pharmacy (6-0) claimed the 2025 AAABA Tournament championship and also won in 2023, as the team has three titles in the past four tournaments. Overall, Johnstown has four AAABA Tournament titles, including Martella’s Pharmacy’s win in 2018. Three of the four host city titles came in games against New Orleans, which has 18 championships and 14 runner-up finishes in 75 appearances.

Manager Chance Osborne’s team produced 10 hits against New Orleans to increase its tournament total to 63 hits — 16 for extra bases. Johnstown had a cumulative batting average of .320 in six wins and scored 52 runs.

Mainline Pharmacy second baseman Xander Richardson earned AAABA Tournament MVP honors after batting .562 (9-for16), with a double, a triple, one home run, three RBIs and eight runs scored. Richardson led the tournament in batting average most of the week until going 1-for-3 in the title game. He only struck out one time in 19 plate appearances.

New Orleans pitcher Robert “Trey” Turnage was named AAABA Tournament top pitcher after winning two games for the Boosters.

Johnstown center fielder Tanner Stroup was recognized as the AAABA Tournament RBI leader with 12. He also had a tourney-high three triples and took home The Tribune-Democrat local MVP honor.

Mainline Pharmacy pitcher Chase Williamson, who threw 3 2/3 innings in middle relief during the title game, tied for the tournament lead with 13 strikeouts. New Orleans pitchers Aidan Grab, who started in the championship game, and Micah Wascom each also fanned 13 hitters.

Johnstown pitcher Dom Delio also was among the tournament leaders with 10 strikeouts in seven innings against Buffalo in the semifinal round. Delio finished with 11 strikeouts overall after throwing an inning against Youngstown on the second day of the tourney.

Altoona-1 Imler Poultry second baseman Gavin Fowler took the tournament batting crown with a .600 average (9-for-15). Youngstown won the Sportsmanship Award.

Johnstown Mainline Pharmacy will have an opportunity to defend it’s AAABA Tournament title thanks to a 4-1 victory over Buffalo East Coast Pipeline in Friday night’s semifinal in front of 1,695 fans at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point.

First-year pitcher Dominic Delio, a recent Penn-Trafford High School graduate and Pitt-Johnstown commit, struck out 10 batters in seven innings. The righty allowed only three hits — all singles — and none after the second inning.

Veteran Bryce Madden pitched the final two innings and worked out of a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the ninth.

Johnstown will face perennial AAABA Tournament power New Orleans Boosters in a 6 p.m. Saturday meeting of two 5-0 teams at the Point.

Mainline Pharmacy won the 2025 AAABA Tournament championship in an all-Johnstown match up with Martella’s Pharmacy. Mainline also won the title in 2023.

New Orleans has 18 championships and 13 runner-up finishes. The Boosters most recent run included three consecutive tournament crowns from 2019 to 2022 (COVID-19 canceled the 2020 tournament).

For a second straight day, facing elimination, the New Orleans Boosters rallied in the late innings to advance in the 81st AAABA Tournament.

The Boosters overcame a 3-0 deficit by scoring a single run in the sixth inning, four more in the eighth and an insurance run in the ninth to edge the Maryland State Crabfest 6-3 in a semifinal round contest at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point.

Celebrating the franchise’s 80th year and its 75th AAABA Tournament appearance, New Orleans will make its 32nd AAABA Tournament championship game appearance on Saturday night against the winner of a semifinal between Buffalo East Coast Pipleline and defending national champion Johnstown Mainline Pharmacy.

New Orleans has won 18 AAABA Tournament championships and has finished as the runner-up 13 other times.

In the semifinal round, New Orleans pitcher Robert Trey Turnage tossed five scoreless innings in relief of starter Micah Wascom to give his team an opportunity to get back into the game. He struck out three and walked one.

Everett Denny had two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Denny drove in the eventual game-winning run in the eighth inning. Frank Randol had two hits.

Maryland State’s Michael Baez and Ryan Parks each collected two hits, and Harry Middlebrooks ripped a run-scoring double.

Johnstown-1 Mainline Pharmacy produced 17 hits, played error-free defense and capitalized on two solid pitching performances in a 12-2, seven-inning victory over Altoona-1 Imler’s Poultry in front of 1,872 fans Thursday night at Sargent’s Staidum at the Point.

Shortstop Brody Roberts, the 2025 AAABA Tournament MVP, went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and one run batted in, and his younger brother, third baseman Bryce Roberts, produced two hits, including a solo homer over the screen and two RBIs.

Catcher Trey Wingard  had three hits and two RBIs, and center fielder Tanner Stroup had two hits, including a triple, one run and one run batted in for Johnstown. Cayden Turner tripled, Xander Richardson doubled and Colin Dinyar had a hit and three RBIs for Mainline Pharmacy.

Altoona-1 Imler’s Poultry (2-2) tallied single runs in the third and fifth innings.

Gavin Fowler and Nick Kraft each collected two hits and drove in a run apiece for Altoona-1. Brady Steiner singled and scored a run.

The Johnstown team will play in Friday’s semifinal round against Buffalo East Coast Pipeline, another 4-0 squad at 7 p.m. Friday at Sargent’s Stadium.

The other semifinal will pair New Orleans Boosters (4-0) and Maryland State (3-1) at noon at the Point.

Perennial AAABA Tournament power New Orleans overcame a four-run deficit with a pair of runs in the seventh inning and three in the bottom of the ninth to walk off the game against Johnstown-2 Martella’s Pharmacy 5-4 Thursday afternoon at Sargent’s Stadium.

Frank Randol’s sacrifice fly to deep center field tied the game 4-all with two outs, and the winning run scored after the high throw into the infield was impacted by a slide and collision at second base.

Bryce Pitts pitched six innings in relief for New Orleans. The right-hander allowed five hits and one run while striking out four and walking one.

Johnstown-2 Martella’s Pharmacy received a strong outing by right-hander Lucas Turner, who threw six scoreless innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Turner allowed three hits.

New Orleans finished with six hits and capitalized on six walks. Rhett Centanni had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and scored the game-winning run. Josh Hoffman had a double.

Martella’s Pharmacy’s Ben Ryan had three hits, including a solo homer and two runs scored. He drove in a run. Owen McDermott had two hits, and Cainen Atherton doubled.

Maryland State’s Remington Waters hit a walk-off grand slam to right field at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point leading his team to a 7-6 comeback victory.

The 3-1 Crabfest squad will advance to Friday’s semifinal round in the 81st AAABA Tournament.

Waters had two hits and scored two runs against previously unbeaten Butler, which closed its tournament with a 3-1 record.

Harry Middlebrooks collected three hits for Maryland State, and Michael Baez had two hits.

Butler led 6-1 through seven innings. Maryland State scored twice in the bottom of the eighth and ended the contest with Waters’ grand slam with one out in the bottom of the ninth.

Butler’s Nate Demchek had two hits, including a double.  Zach Miner doubled.

The Johnstown-1/Cleveland winner will earn the top spot in Pool C and the loser will be the runner-up.

The Pool C winner will face Pool D runner-up Altoona-1 Imler’s Poultry (2-1).

The Pool D winner Buffalo (3-0) will face the Pool C runner-up.

Thursday will include a tripleheader at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point, with starting times at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Forest Hills Junior-Senior High School will host a noon contest.

Four afternoon games in the 81st AAABA Tournament produced a pair of 3-0 squads as Pool Play concluded Wednesday:

Buffalo 10, Zanesville 0 (7): In Pool D at Portage’s Pete Haschak Memorial Field, Cam Gruarin pitched six innings, scattering eight hits while striking out 11 with no walks as Buffalo (3-0) shut out Zanesville (1-2). Joey Haynes went 3-for-3 with three runs, and Bryce Mucica had two hits and three RBIs.

New Orleans 8, Maryland State 0: In Pool B at Forest Hills Junior-Senior High School Field, New Orleans (3-0) broke open a tight contest by scoring six runs over the final four innings, including a 3-run sixth against Maryland State (2-1). Three Boosters pitchers combined on the two-hit shutout, striking out five and walking no batters. Jacob Heiden (5 IP) allowed both Crabfest hits while striking out one batter. George Martin tossed a scoreless frame with a strikeout, and Colby Mitchell closed with 3 clean innings and 3 strikeouts. Everett Denny and Riley Rowell each had 2 hits for New Orleans. Tyler Smith and Remington Waters each had a hit for Maryland State.

New York City 4, Youngstown 3: In Pool C at Windber Sports Complex, Waddy Ozoria’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning produced the game-winning run for New York City (1-2). Jasmark Munoz hit a run-scoring single for the SAYO Grays. John Chalus and Anthony Triveri each drove in a run for Youngstown (0-3). Triveri and Tyler Burick each had two hits.

Johnstown-2 17, Brooklyn 1 (7): In Pool A at Sargent’s Stadium, Colby Rearick collected three hits, including a double and a triple, and the center fielder drove in five runs as Johnstown-2 Martella’s Pharmacy (2-1) rolled past Brooklyn (0-3). Johnstown-2’s Cainen Atherton had three hits, and Ben Ryan, Steve Budash, Lucas Oleksa and Mason Pfeil each collected a pair of hits. Isaac Frias drove in Brooklyn’s run.
