The Dominican Republic took a decisive step toward consolidating its leadership in Caribbean cruise tourism following the announcement of a strategic alliance between MSC Cruises and the Port of La Romana. Under the agreement, the MSC Opera will establish La Romana as its year-round homeport.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference led by Tourism Minister David Collado; MSC Cruises CEO Gianni Onorato; and Andrés Pichardo Rosenberg, President of Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, representing Central Romana Corporation, during the international tourism trade fair (FITUR) held in Madrid.

In his remarks, Pichardo Rosenberg emphasized that La Romana has historically served as a key hub where industry, connectivity, and tourism converge. He highlighted more than five decades of integrated development under the Casa de Campo Resort brand. This model, he explained, has successfully integrated high-end hospitality, real estate, sports, culture, a marina, a seaport, an airport, and a wide range of tourism services, laying the foundation for transformative, long-term alliances like the one reached with MSC.

The selection of La Romana as a homeport represents the beginning of a strategic relationship built on mutual trust, operational excellence, and a shared commitment to sustainable development. Pichardo Rosenberg explained that the agreement guarantees weekly stopovers by MSC Cruises throughout the year, providing operational stability, long-term planning, and a continuous, predictable economic impact for both the region and the country.

Pichardo Rosenberg offered special thanks to MSC Cruises and its CEO, Gianni Onorato, for the trust placed in La Romana and the Dominican Republic. He concluded by reaffirming that the country “does not just receive cruise ships; it builds alliances, cares for its destinations, and leads the future of tourism in the region.”

As part of this operation, the alliance also includes Catalina Island, one of the Eastern region’s primary natural assets. The island is managed by Casa de Campo under criteria of sustainability, environmental conservation, and world-class tourism experiences.

“Operating as a year-round homeport places La Romana within a very small group of ports globally,” Pichardo Rosenberg said. He noted that this designation sends a clear message that the Dominican Republic is a reliable, competitive partner prepared to lead Caribbean cruise tourism.

The executive framed the agreement within what he described as the best moment in the country’s tourism history, resulting from a clear vision and effective public-private collaboration. In that regard, he recognized the leadership of President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado for their roles in strengthening the sector and enhancing the international profile of the Dominican destination.

From the perspective of Central Romana Corporation, the alliance with MSC Cruises represents job creation, the strengthening of productive chains, regional development, and a firm commitment to a long-term sustainable tourism model.

La Casita restaurant—an icon of the Marina at Casa de Campo—opened its doors to host the year’s first edition of Café de la Leche. Under the hospitality of hostess Julia Martínez, the Casa de Campo community gathered at one of the resort’s most breathtaking locations to support the Hogar del Niño.

It was a picture-perfect Caribbean afternoon. With the majestic yachts of the Marina as a backdrop and a cool sunset breeze, guests enjoyed a relaxed and elegant atmosphere on the wooden deck of La Casita. The inviting decor set the stage for guests to share laughs and toasts while enjoying an exquisite selection of hors d’oeuvres prepared especially for the occasion.

While the traditional goal of Café de la Leche is to supply the Crib Room (Sala Cuna) at Hogar del Niño—which prepares more than 800 bottles daily for over 200 babies—this January edition featured a special festive twist:

  • Donations with Purpose: Instead of the usual can of milk, attendees contributed cash or the equivalent in toys.
  • Immediate Impact: Thanks to this change in format, a wide variety of gifts were collected to bring joy to the youngest children, extending the magic of the Three Kings Day season.

Café de la Leche is much more than a fundraiser; it is a meeting point where friendship and philanthropy unite to ensure the well-being of childhood in La Romana. This event marks a hopeful start to the year for the Hogar del Niño.

Casa de Campo Resort & Villas marked a milestone in the Caribbean’s luxury wellness scene with the official opening of Casa Ēquilibra by American Express: A Pop-Up Wellness Studio. The studio debuted with an inaugural event on Saturday, Dec. 27, in the iconic cultural setting of Altos de Chavón. This initiative represents the resort’s first-ever pop-up wellness studio featuring daily programming that integrates movement, mindfulness, and community as essential pillars of modern luxury hospitality.

The day began at 7 a.m. with the Chavón 5K Run, a race designed for residents, homeowners, guests, and visitors. Meeting at the Chavón Fountain next to the Amphitheater, participants ran through the historic heart of Altos de Chavón, turning every step into a blend of culture, energy, and conscious movement.

Pilates instructor Eva Janji opened the event alongside founders Isabela Pichardo and Alexandra Hannecart with a “sculpt & burn” session, a signature class of the Ēquilibra brand. Starting at 8 a.m. at Casa Caoba, attendees enjoyed yoga and Pilates experiences designed for all levels, which continued until 11 a.m.

The sessions reflected the essence of Casa Ēquilibra: balance as a lifestyle, movement as a tool for transformation, and the environment as a natural catalyst for well-being. Simultaneously, a Coffee Party served as a social space for recovery and connection, reinforcing the vision of wellness as an integral, holistic, and collective experience.

“Casa Ēquilibra inaugurates a new stage in our commitment: creating wellness experiences that are human, transformative, and deeply connected to the environment,” said Alexandra Hannecart, co-founder of Ēquilibra Wellness. “Bringing this project to Altos de Chavón — a space that breathes history, art, and energy — represents a transcendental step toward expanding wellness within modern luxury.”

Isabela Pichardo, co-founder of Ēquilibra, added: “The success achieved with Casa Wellness confirmed that there is a community seeking to move, breathe, and live with more intention. This pop-up was born to accompany the most special season of the year, offering a curated program where every class and every detail guides you toward balance.”

Charles Keusters, director of operations at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, noted the strategic importance of the launch. “At Casa de Campo, wellness is not an add-on; it is a strategic pillar within our vision of hospitality. The arrival of Casa Ēquilibra consolidates our path toward experiences that elevate the quality of life for our guests and residents.”

The new pop-up wellness studio will remain active in Altos de Chavón from Dec. 27 to Jan. 26, offering daily programming of yoga, Pilates, and wellness experiences. With this opening, Casa de Campo Resort & Villas and Ēquilibra Wellness solidify a shared vision where wellness is not just practiced—it is lived, shared, and celebrated.

Golf and philanthropy will once again meet on the fairways of La Romana Country Club when Fundación MIR hosts its annual Golf for Education tournament on Jan. 17, 2026. The event invites players and supporters to spend a day on the course while backing programs that serve women, youth and children in the La Romana community.

The tournament, organized by Fundación MIR, returns as one of the organization’s signature fundraising efforts. It brings together golfers, community members and longtime supporters for a shared purpose. Support education, community programs and enjoy a round of golf in the process.

Golf With a Purpose

Participants will tee off in a setting well known to Casa de Campo residents and visitors. The tournament welcomes seasoned golfers and supporters alike, offering an easy way to get involved. Those unable to attend can still contribute by making donations, extending the day’s impact beyond the fairways.

Proceeds from the event support Fundación MIR’s ongoing work in education, medical assistance and technical training. The tournament remains one of the foundation’s key efforts to sustain these programs year after year.

About Fundación MIR

Since its founding in 1990 by Mrs. Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, Fundación MIR has been dedicated to improving lives through social programs offering education, medical assistance, and technical training to those in need. The Golf for Education event continues this tradition, inviting participants to contribute to a meaningful cause while enjoying a day on the greens.

With the Jan. 17, 2026 tournament approaching, Fundación MIR invites the community to once again turn a day on the greens into meaningful support. Golf bags will be packed, scorecards filled and, by day’s end, another chapter added to a tradition built on giving.

The Altos de Chavón Art Gallery announces the opening of “WONDERLAND,” the latest exhibition by renowned artist Stepanova. The opening event will take place Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, starting at 6:30 p.m.

“WONDERLAND” is more than a series of paintings; it is a journey toward the genesis of the human gaze. The collection explores the perception of the world during early childhood, a stage where experience is purely intuitive, sensory, and devoid of defined boundaries. Through a masterful use of color and scale, Stepanova transforms the traditional painting format into immersive spaces that envelop the viewer, restoring a child’s sense of wonder.

“This exhibition proposes an active experience that refers to a primordial state of perception, prior to any structure or hierarchy of the world,” the exhibition’s curatorial concept states.

The opening night promises to be a comprehensive event that transcends passive observation. Attendees will experience:

  • Darkroom: A unique conceptual space, born from the artist’s original idea, which will be specially set up in the audiovisual room.
  • Live performances: Guest artists will engage in a real-time dialogue with the exhibited work.
  • Curated atmosphere: Specially selected musical ambiance and a service of drinks and finger foods designed to complement the aesthetic experience.

Opening Event Details Location: Altos de Chavón Art Gallery, Casa de Campo, La Romana. Date: Friday, Jan. 9, 2026.

The Altos de Chavón Art Gallery invites collectors, art critics, and the general public to reconnect with a free, open, and deeply sensory way of looking through Stepanova’s universe.

Casa Ēquilibra is just days from opening, and the holiday season at Casa de Campo is about to move to a new rhythm.

Starting Dec. 27, Casa de Campo Resort & Villas and Ēquilibra Wellness will activate Casa Caoba in Altos de Chavón with a pop-up wellness residency running through Jan. 26. As previously reported by Casa de Campo Living, the temporary studio brings together daily yoga, pilates, cardio, HIIT, sound healing, breathwork and special sessions created for residents, guests and homeowners who want to stay active while carving out moments to slow down.

The project is part of a broader partnership between Casa de Campo and Ēquilibra, centered on balance, intention and community connection during one of the busiest times of the year.

A Pop-Up Designed for the Season

Casa Ēquilibra transforms Casa Caoba into a dedicated movement space with classes scheduled daily from morning through late afternoon. Programming runs Monday through Sunday and is designed to welcome participants at all levels, whether they are keeping up a regular practice or easing into something new over the holidays.

Alongside core classes, the residency includes sunset sessions, DJ collaborations and immersive experiences that bring a social, laid-back energy to wellness. The season officially kicks off Dec. 27 with Run. Flow. Repeat., a launch event that combines a running club, pilates, yoga and a coffee gathering to set the tone for the weeks ahead.

Movement, Connection and Place

Altos de Chavón anchors the experience. Its architecture and cultural setting naturally support the slower pace and reflective energy Casa Ēquilibra aims to create.

The residency builds on earlier collaborations between Ēquilibra and Casa de Campo, including sessions hosted with The Spa at Casa de Campo and the large-scale Casa Wellness program held earlier this year. The strong community response to those events helped shape the idea of a longer, more immersive wellness presence during the holiday season.

Team behind Casa Equilibra

How to Join

Classes run from Dec. 27 through Jan. 26 at Casa Caoba in Altos de Chavón. Reservations are available through Mindbody “Equilibra Studio” by clicking here. For those not in Casa de Campo, Ēquilibra will also offer guided online classes streamed from the coast.

As mats roll out and the studio prepares to open, Casa Ēquilibra extends a simple invitation: come as you are, move with intention and find your rhythm — right in the heart of Altos de Chavón.

The Winter 2025 edition of Casa de Campo Living has arrived, capturing a moment many in this community know well: when different parts of your life intersect in one place and feel right at home. This season’s issue explores that connection through food, culture, design and personal stories that reflect how Casa de Campo continues to bring people together across borders.

In his publisher’s letter, Philip Silvestri describes that feeling firsthand. Writing about the recent Casa de Campo Food and Wine Festival, he recalls welcoming friends and collaborators from North Texas, including voices from sister publication Local Profile. “That’s the magic of Casa de Campo,” Silvestri writes. “It’s not just a destination; it’s an experience that reveals itself layer by layer.” Watching first-time visitors fall in love with the community reminded him how naturally Casa de Campo brings worlds together, from Texas to the Dominican Republic and back again.

A Season Built Around Community

That spirit carries through the Winter 2025 cover story, A Taste of Community, which looks at how food continues to anchor life at Casa de Campo. The feature revisits the Food and Wine Festival not just as an event, but as part of a larger culture shaped by shared tables, familiar faces and conversations that linger.

Throughout the issue, stories move easily between tradition and what comes next. From long-standing events to new experiences, the issue reflects a community shaped by people who live here full-time, return seasonally or arrive curious and leave changed.

Inside the Winter 2025 Features

Several features form the backbone of the issue. Coverage of the 2025 Sugar Tournament traces how sport and philanthropy remain deeply linked through support for Fundación MIR. An interview with Argentine artist Susana Gíser offers insight into intuition and essentialism through her recent exhibition in Altos de Chavón. A Fresh Approach to Well-Being explores how Casa de Campo and Ēquilibra are shaping wellness through movement, balance and connection.

One of the most personal pieces, The Maestro and the Prodigy, follows the bond between Italian conductor Gianni Bergamo and Dominican piano prodigy Samuel García, a mentorship that began quietly in Casa de Campo and grew into an international journey rooted in belief and opportunity.

The issue also looks outward. Features on the La Romana Cruise Port and MSC Cruises’ return as a year-round homeport beginning in 2026 examine how the region continues to strengthen its global ties while creating new opportunities close to home. Together, the stories show how Casa de Campo and the region continue to connect locally and globally.

Life, Style and Tradition

Winter 2025 also captures the everyday rhythm of Casa de Campo. Fashion and design take center stage in Global Icons Meet Caribbean Style and Designers in Casa, while events such as ALMA Casa de Campo, Watches & Yachts, Friendsgiving and the Da Vittorio and O.livia culinary experience reflect the season’s social life.

Traditions remain front and center. The Christmas light-up ceremony in Altos de Chavón marks the start of the holidays, and a new archery experience at the Shooting Center adds another layer to the resort’s sporting culture. Villas in Casa offers a closer look at homes shaped by calm and connection, and Faces in Casa: Martha Victoriá honors a woman whose 41 years at Altos de Chavón mirror the resort’s own history.

The issue rounds out with a wine tasting feature, a dining guide and an updated Casa de Campo map, practical additions that reflect how residents and guests actually move through the community.

From the Community, for the Community

The Winter 2025 edition reads like a conversation among neighbors. It is shaped by contributors who live these stories and by a community that continues to grow without losing its soul. As Silvestri writes, there is something powerful about watching someone experience Casa de Campo for the first time. This issue invites you to do the same, whether you are opening these pages as a longtime resident or discovering new corners of a place you already call home.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our contributors, advertisers, and, above all, our readers, whose steadfast support enables us to bring the spirit of Casa de Campo to life on these pages.

Keep an eye out for the print version of this beautiful, milestone issue — it’s coming soon!

Mrs. Xiomara de Menéndez once again opened her home for Café de la Leche, welcoming members of the Casa de Campo community for an evening centered on holiday tradition and charitable giving. Held Dec. 5 at her residence, the annual gathering brought neighbors together in support of the Hogar del Niño, continuing a December ritual that has become deeply rooted inside the resort.

Guests filtered in throughout the early evening, greeting friends and reconnecting over seasonal treats. Each contribution, set at RD$2,000 or its equivalent in sweets and candies, supported the cause at the heart of the event. The informal setting encouraged conversation and connection, allowing attendees to participate at their own pace while backing a mission many have supported for years.

A Tradition With Purpose

While Café de la Leche carries a festive tone, its purpose remains clear. According to previous editions of the event, the initiative raises funds and food donations with a focus on milk for the youngest children at the Hogar del Niño. In 2024, organizers reported that the campaign helped provide about 80 percent of the milk consumed in the Infant Room, totaling more than 900 bottles daily for babies and toddlers.

Candies and sweets collected during the gathering are later shared with the children during Christmas celebrations, extending the spirit of the evening beyond the event itself.

Supporting the Hogar del Niño

Located in La Romana just outside Casa de Campo, the Hogar del Niño provides education and daily care for more than 1,500 children, from infancy through young adulthood. The center operates from early morning through the evening, offering formal, special and vocational education.

Hogar del Niño also serves children with visual and hearing impairments and operates a vocational school where students receive training in sewing, industrial maintenance, electrical installation and computer programming. Ongoing community efforts like Café de la Leche help sustain these programs throughout the year.

Community at the Center

Beyond the donations collected, the evening served as a reminder of the strength of shared commitment. Guests lingered to catch up and reflect, reinforcing the sense of responsibility that has kept Café de la Leche going for decades. For many residents, it remains one of the most meaningful holiday gatherings on the community calendar.

As the night came to a close, the message was familiar and enduring. A short visit, a modest contribution and time spent together can create an impact that lasts far beyond the season.

Casa de Campo Resort & Villas celebrated a major milestone this week with the hoisting of the 2025–2026 Blue Flag at Minitas Beach. The international certification recognizes beaches that meet strict standards of environmental quality, safety, cleanliness and accessibility.

This year is especially meaningful: Minitas Beach now celebrates 10 consecutive years as a Blue Flag beach, placing it among the Dominican Republic’s most distinguished shorelines.

A Ceremony Highlighting Teamwork and Progress

Resort executives, team members and local authorities gathered at Minitas Beach for the ceremony. Director of Operations Charles Keusters shared how the certification has shaped improvements over the past decade, helping elevate the experience for homeowners, guests and visitors.

“For us, maintaining the Blue Flag standard at Minitas Beach is an ongoing commitment,” Keusters said. “This achievement reflects the dedicated work of our teams and the determination of Casa de Campo’s leadership to provide a safe, clean, accessible and sustainable environment for all our guests and homeowners.”

Norma Enríquez, Director of Integrated Quality, spoke about the effort behind earning and renewing the certification each year.

“Blue Flag is not just a distinction. It is a responsibility we proudly uphold,” Enríquez said. “Every process, every monitoring effort and every improvement reflects our dedication to ensuring that Minitas Beach meets the highest international standards of environmental quality.”

Nicole Sánchez, Manager of Minitas Beach, thanked her team for maintaining Blue Flag standards for a full decade. Resident Manager José Miguel Abreu highlighted how the certification enriches the guest experience, while Andrés Fernández, President of the La Romana Destination Hotel Association, congratulated the resort for becoming a model of sustainable tourism in the region.

A Flag With Meaning

The ceremony concluded with the hoisting of the Blue Flag — a symbol that Minitas Beach continues to meet international requirements in water quality, safety, services and environmental education.

With ten years of certification, Casa de Campo Resort & Villas reinforces its role as a leader in environmental stewardship and its commitment to preserving the natural beauty that defines the community.

Christmas arrived at Casa de Campo on Dec. 6 as Altos de Chavón hosted its traditional Christmas Lights Lighting Ceremony in Plaza Chavón. Residents, homeowners and guests gathered for an evening shaped by music, faith and the long-awaited moment when the plaza illuminated to mark the start of the holiday season.

The ceremony began at 7 p.m. and felt more like a neighborhood gathering than a formal program. Families arrived early. Friends paused to catch up. Children edged closer to the front. By the time night settled in, Plaza Chavón had taken on the easy warmth of a shared living room.

A Familiar Night, Renewed Each Year

The evening opened with a theatrical recreation of the Living Nativity presented by Fundación MIR. The performance brought the crowd to a quiet pause, shifting attention away from decorations and toward the story that anchors the season. It was a calm and reflective start, one that has become a defining part of the ceremony year after year.

Father José Nicolás Tejera del Castillo, parish priest of San Estanislao Church in Altos de Chavón, then offered a blessing for the Christmas tree and everyone in attendance, creating a reflective pause before the celebration continued.

When the Lights Came On

Remarks from Andrés Pichardo Rosenberg, president of Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, and Juan Velázquez, vice president of Costasur Dominicana, followed. Both thanked the community for coming together and spoke about the importance of preserving traditions that connect neighbors across generations.

Their words led naturally into the moment everyone had been waiting for.

As the countdown, led by community member Gabriela Reginato, ended, the Christmas decorations across Plaza Chavón lit up, drawing cheers and applause from the crowd. The historic square transformed instantly, glowing under strands of light that framed the stone buildings and open plaza.

It is a moment many attendees look forward to each year. Not because it surprises, but because the message is clear: Christmas has arrived.

After the lighting, the evening continued with a live concert by the Batuta Orchestra. Music filled the plaza as guests lingered, took photos and settled into the night under the newly lit decorations. The orchestra’s performance echoed past editions of the ceremony, where youth-led ensembles have long helped set the tone for the season.

A Season Officially Begins

As in previous years, the event serves as the official kickoff to a full slate of seasonal programming across the property, from concerts and workshops to family-centered activities. While the details evolve, the intention remains steady: create a shared experience that brings the community together.

For those who return each year, the ceremony offers a simple reassurance. Traditions still matter. Familiar places still bring people together. And throughout the season, Plaza Chavón continues to serve as the heart of Casa de Campo’s Christmas celebrations.

Casa de Campo Resort & Villas added another industry recognition to its growing list, earning Silver in the Best Caribbean/Mexico Golf & Spa Resort category at the 2025 Prevue Visionary Awards.

The annual awards, presented by Prevue Meetings + Incentives, are voted on by meeting and incentive planners who design events worldwide. According to Prevue, the Visionary Awards spotlight destinations that stand out for their ability to host meaningful, well-designed group experiences.

Why This Award Matters

Unlike other awards, the Prevue Visionary Awards reflect the voices of planners actively working in the field. Their votes are shaped by real experiences — how a destination functions, how teams are supported and how memorable events come together.

For Casa de Campo, the Silver distinction highlights its strength as a resort that balances championship golf, a full-service spa and the flexibility planners look for when building programs in the Caribbean and Mexico region.

A Destination Built for Gatherings

Spanning 7,000 acres in La Romana, Casa de Campo offers a rare mix of scale and intimacy. Three world-class golf courses, a marina, beaches and a wide range of activities give planners room to design programs that move beyond traditional meeting formats.

Flamboyan Conference Center

Conference centers, ballrooms, outdoor venues and private villas allow groups to tailor experiences for everything from executive retreats to large incentive programs, while still preserving the relaxed rhythm that defines life at Casa de Campo.

A Familiar Name Among Visionary Winners

This year’s recognition continues Casa de Campo’s long-standing presence at the Prevue Visionary Awards. In past editions, the resort has been acknowledged for its role in the meetings and incentives industry, reinforcing its reputation as a destination planners return to.
