Belichick won’t make year 3, Deion needs to do something in year 4. We are all guilty of saying these things, and we are guilty hearing them. But what are the realities? They are both fascinating case studies, to compare. Some of the comparisons are little silly things, but plenty of it is legit, sports bar conversation. They are both a bolt of energy to their schools. I’m not sure off the top of my head that I can name two big time players/ coaches arriving in the college ranks. Think about it, most big time coaches simply go from school to school. You can’t say Saban, he won a title, spent two short seasons in Miami man’s immediately came back. Both these guys opened their careers against the Mighty Texas Christian Horned Frogs. They both had very different results. Colorado won on the road, while UNC scored a touchdown on the first drive, only to be hammered after. Both coaches won four games in year one. This season Bill has a new, upgrade at OC , while Deion has coordinators on both sides of the ball. I have said for years, the true test of Deion is will he walk the Colorado sidelines in 2027, or was this simply another con in a lifetime of cons ? Bill May be run off, as of the last few days things have happened that may make that speculation true. Lombardi was let go for sexual harassment and little B is potentially being investigated as I write this. According to a Colorado insider, the idea Deion could be run off in December is a National story but not a local thought at all. He has brought thousands of dollars in attention, attendance and money to the university. While right now his one winning season stands out, a bowl game in an era where everyone makes one would easily satisfy as “making progress”. Unfortunately for Bill, his schedule is worse than last year. Yes he just got a win, that no one thought he would, but 6 wins seems tough. Last year he was just a very few plays from getting to a bowl, which would have helped calm criticism. Funny we talk about a somewhat steal of a win last week for Bill and Deion got a blocked FG to win when being a td dog last night. All in all if I was forced to choose I’d say Bill may not make it to year three and that is unfortunate that he only got two seasons. ]]>
The interesting one is Steve Belichick. Out since August 6 for health reasons, the latest rumor is drug use and potentially giving a player drugs. Could it be possible he is in rehab ? In this day and age could you keep that quiet ? Would him being let go as with Lombardi, make Bill want to walk ? ]]>
UNC has a much tougher schedule this year. All the Belichick needs to go are over the top but it would be fair to say they have made his seat warm. I thought the addition of Bobby Petrino was a big move in the right direction. Yes you scored 15 , and you’d like more,but the TCU Defense is a good one. The UNC quarterback ran a good show with Bobby directing. You should expect more of the same in week 2, before what I expect to be 3 straight losses. The temporary loss of Steve Belichick I did not see as a loss at all. Bill is perfectly capable of calling a defensive game, and if my rear was warm I would want to. This win was a “steal “ if you are UNC, but one they needed.
TCU has serious offensive problems that hopefully will be worked out soon. 10 points on Opening Day , you have an offensive minded head coach, that is just not good. You had a tremendous running game but not much else. You also have a lose in Ireland curse. Yes it is real. Teams that lose game one in Ireland tend to have trash seasons. So I wish both teams the best and am curious will either make a watered down bowl game and will 1 keep his job ?
