There is sense to it. A lot of shapshifting characters with clothes tend to have them morph as well. Or not. It can go several ways.

the purple creature seems to have mysterious powers. Also I had not thought to draw in a wardrobe switch and imagined, since it was this character, that I did not have to explain it.

the tengu I was worried about seeming out of place or improperly referenced from a culture I know nothing about, but if I draw something into enough panels eventually it fits.
