Remembering September 11: Honor. Reflect. Never Forget.

As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, we recognize that our nation’s story is made up not only of milestones and achievements, but also of moments that have profoundly shaped who we are.

On September 11, American Engineering joins communities across the country in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honoring the families, first responders, service members, and everyday Americans whose courage and compassion emerged in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Twenty-five years later, the lessons of September 11 continue to remind us of the importance of service, resilience, community, and standing together.

Today, we pause to remember those we lost, honor those who served, and reflect on the strength that comes from unity.

Honor. Reflect. Never Forget.

Celebrating America’s 250th and the Story Behind Our Name.
American Engineering: Honoring America’s Past. Engineering Its Future.

As our nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, American Engineering is reflecting on a story that has been part of our identity since the very beginning.

When our firm was founded, the name American Engineering was chosen with purpose. It was more than a company name – it was a tribute to America, the opportunities this country represents, and the role engineering plays in shaping strong, connected, and resilient communities.

For more than five decades, American Engineering has had the privilege of helping communities grow and thrive through transportation improvements, water and wastewater infrastructure, land development, land surveying, and community planning projects across the Southeast. These projects may vary in size and scope, but each one contributes to the places people call home, the roads they travel, the water systems they depend on, and the communities they help build.

As we celebrate America250, we will be highlighting the projects, partnerships, and people who continue to move our communities forward. It is an opportunity to honor the past, recognize the work being done today, and look ahead to the next chapter of America’s future.

We are proud of what American Engineering has helped create over the past 50 years and even more excited about what lies ahead.

Since we are American Engineering, and as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, today we recognize Meck Dec Day.

On May 20, 1775, Mecklenburg County leaders are believed to have become the first citizens in the American colonies to declare independence from British rule, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed.

A key figure in this story is Captain James Jack, a Charlotte tavern owner who rode to Philadelphia to deliver the Mecklenburg Resolves to the Continental Congress, representing the determination and spirit of our local community. North Carolina’s “First in Freedom” heritage can still be found throughout the state today – from the dates displayed on the North Carolina state flag to local tributes like Olde Mecklenburg Brewery’s Captain Jack beer.

At American Engineering, we’re proud to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary throughout the coming year. And today, we pause to recognize the patriots of Mecklenburg County who were truly ahead of their time more than a year before the rest of the nation.
