Yet your contact with reality is not emotionally neutral. People, objects, and environments can feel attractive, repellent, enlivening, degrading, sincere, artificial, nourishing, or harmful. The same tendency shapes how you approach abstract material. You may enjoy philosophy, theory, symbolism, or complex systems, but you often want to know what their claims mean in real life:

What does this actually look like?

How does it affect the people involved?

What happens when someone attempts it?

Does the experience match what is being claimed?

What changes appear when this idea is applied?

You may take an impressive-sounding idea and ask what it actually means in practice. This is not a rejection of theory, but an attempt to reconnect it with the reality it describes.

Immersion and Vitality

More than spontaneity alone, you are drawn toward immersion.

You are drawn toward activities that absorb your senses, attention, movement, instincts, and emotional responsiveness at once. The activity must give something back: a reaction to read, a texture to experience, an atmosphere to enter, a body to coordinate, a person to encounter, or a visible transformation to witness.

This can include music, sport, dance, performance, travel, styling, craft, a live creative project, a changing business situation, or an intellectually rich subject. What matters is that the activity keeps giving you something new to notice or respond to.

You usually understand these activities best by doing them. You enter the situation, see what happens, and adjust. Because your attention stays connected to what is actually occurring, you can drop an ineffective approach quickly instead of sticking with it just because you chose it earlier.

Your internal judgments often emerge through immediate attraction and aversion:

Something feels good.

Something feels wrong.

A person feels open.

An environment feels dead.

A behavior feels cruel.

A role feels false.

These reactions may appear before you can explain them. Your response becomes part of how you experience the person, object, or situation.

Your face, posture, enthusiasm, withdrawal, laughter, disgust, tenderness, or irritation may reveal your response before you have intentionally chosen to express it:

Excitement can become visible immediately.

Attraction may radiate through the body.

Disgust may appear on the face.

Affection may become physical and demonstrative.

This can make your preferences appear unusually sincere. You may find it difficult to sustain enthusiasm for something that leaves you cold or hide your aversion toward something that feels deeply wrong.

The standard SeFi may not yet know exactly why these reactions occur. You may know that something feels right or wrong without yet knowing what you are responding to.

Different people, environments, styles, and experiences can therefore become part of your self-discovery. Rather than first defining an identity and seeking experiences that match it, you may discover your identity through the experiences that cause it to surface.

This directness can make you seem open, genuine, and unpretentious. But it can also lead to impulsive disclosure, careless provocation, open hostility, or the belief that sincerity excuses the consequences of expression. An emotion being real does not make every way of expressing it appropriate.

Intimacy and Personal Disclosure

You may experience intimacy as two people dropping their usual distance and becoming more open with each other. This can involve personal disclosure, physical affection, sexuality, shared experience, direct eye contact, mutual vulnerability, or simply being together without much concealment.

Play, Pleasure, and Experience

However, the strength of present experience can still overwhelm caution. An activity may feel so vivid, attractive, or emotionally significant that its later consequences recede from attention.

The present can feel honest precisely because it is happening now.

But immediacy does not guarantee durability:

A relationship can feel profound without being stable.

A purchase can feel self-expressive without being financially viable.

A risk can feel liberating while still producing lasting damage.

A bodily impulse can feel authentic while reflecting only one temporary state.

Freedom and Self-Ownership

You generally want enough freedom to respond to what is happening and live in a way that feels like your own.

You may resist being overmanaged, especially when an imposed procedure appears detached from present conditions or prevents you from responding to what is actually happening.

Rules followed only because “that is how things are done” can feel pointless and restrictive. You may prefer to test the limits yourself rather than accept every restriction beforehand.

This does not mean you reject discipline. You may submit to demanding training, professional standards, health practices, financial restraint, or technical limitation when you can see their benefit:

A useful rule protects something important or clearly improves the result.

A pointless rule only gets in the way.

This self-direction supports experimentation and adaptability, but it can also become self-indulgence. You may assume that because an experience feels compelling, it deserves priority, or treat an external limitation as illegitimate without examining the wider context that made it necessary.

Vulnerabilities

With an I--- development, the immediate experience often carries more psychological weight than its wider implications.

You may postpone tasks that offer no present engagement, underestimate cumulative consequences, rely too heavily on improvisation, or pursue experiences despite foreseeable risks. Future consequences can feel less real than what is happening right now

You may also trust your current attraction or aversion too completely. What feels enlivening may be assumed fundamentally good, while discomfort may be mistaken for a violation of your nature even when it is part of necessary growth.

You may therefore mistake how you feel right now for who you fundamentally are:

A desire may be temporary.

An aversion may reflect fear.

A powerful attraction may distort judgment.

An aesthetic response may be mistaken for an ethical truth.

A feeling of authenticity may arise from release rather than lasting alignment.

Your selective productivity may also create practical problems. You may produce visible results while neglecting the support systems that keep your life running. Money, schedules, paperwork, health routines, and other responsibilities may seem unimportant until neglecting them creates an immediate problem.

You may also overestimate how much a change of scenery can solve. A new experience, relationship, environment, or project may briefly restore your energy, without fixing the habits, obligations, or material conditions causing the problem.

With poorly integrated Fi, your likes and dislikes may not yet connect to a clear understanding of what truly matters to you. You may feel strongly drawn toward or repelled by something without knowing what quality you are responding to. You may also move between different versions of yourself without knowing which parts are central to who you are.

With poorly integrated Te, you may make choices without fully considering how they will work in practice, how they will be sustained, or what consequences will follow. At other times, this may reverse into abrupt commands, bursts of productivity, financial control, forceful problem-solving, or impatience with anything blocking the result.

With poorly integrated Ni, you may treat each event as a separate situation. You may see a person or situation clearly in the present while failing to recognize that the same pattern has appeared elsewhere before. As a result, you may repeat the same choices or remain surprised by outcomes that the larger pattern was already pointing toward.

Fi Integration

As Fi becomes integrated, you become more attentive to the intrinsic identity and living essence of the objects and people you encounter.

As a Ji function, Fi is essentialist in nature. Yet unlike Ti, which compares an object to an ideal category, Fi recognizes each object as a singular being with a nature of its own.

The question is not only what kind of thing this is, but what this particular being is from within:

What is alive here?

What belongs to this person’s nature?

What is this being trying to become?

Which expression reveals its genuine identity?

What diminishes or betrays its life?

How should this object exist if it were allowed to unfold according to itself?

This gives your Se exploration a more stable internal center.

In the standard form, an experience may simply feel attractive, disturbing, beautiful, or false. With Fi integration, you become more capable of identifying the essential life-principle producing that response:

A relationship may feel wrong because it requires you to become someone alien to yourself.

An environment may feel dead because everyone is expected to suppress what makes them distinct.

A work of art may succeed because its form clearly expresses the identity of its subject.

An animal may appear violated because its living essence is being reduced to utility.

Fi integration therefore transforms personal resonance into essential recognition:

You do not merely like an object - you recognize what feels true to it.

You do not merely dislike a treatment - you see how it violates the nature of what is being treated.

This can intensify your sense of personal identity. You may become highly sensitive to which roles, relationships, environments, and forms of expression genuinely fit who you are.

Emotional experiences may also take on a clearer identity of their own. Jealousy, grief, longing, humiliation, desire, resentment, tenderness, or estrangement may be recognized as part of a specific personal reality with its own shape and meaning.

You may preserve that reality through lyrics, movement, images, characters, or performance. In artistic work, a song, character, or movement may be approached through the distinct character it seems to contain, rather than only through its sensory form:

A character may require a particular posture, tone, or emotional texture because these belong to who that character is.

A musical work may be performed with the correct notes and timing while still feeling lifeless if its particular mood and character have not been captured.

A performance becomes convincing when its gestures, phrasing, and emotional tone reveal what is distinctive about that specific role or composition.

The sensualist quality becomes more concentrated here. The body is experienced not only as a site of stimulation but as the physical embodiment of the living self.

You may become more attentive to whether your appearance, health, sexuality, movement, home, and creative work feel true to you. This does not necessarily produce flamboyance; Fi integration may just as readily produce restraint, privacy, selectivity, and careful self-protection.

It can also create strong ethical commitments around bodily autonomy, animal welfare, personal identity, freedom of expression, or the right of people to live according to their nature. These positions may come less from a universal social rule than from the conviction that each living being has a nature that should not be violated.

This can make SeFi appear emotionally distilled, artistically singular, self-defining, private, selective, or resistant to social pressure.

The risk is excessive essentialization. You may treat a temporary state, desire, wound, or aesthetic preference as though it defines the whole person. You may assume that your read of someone is more accurate than their own changing experience, or resist necessary change because it feels like a betrayal of who you are.

You may also become sharply selective. Once a person, institution, or behavior is seen as degrading, false, predatory, or fundamentally incompatible with what you value, you may withdraw your warmth, become openly antagonistic, or feel little obligation to preserve the relationship.

Te Integration

As Te becomes integrated, you become more attentive to cause and effect, execution, and material results.

This can give SeFi practical force. Se registers the active variables of the situation, while Te identifies which of them must be changed to produce the intended result.

Because both functions stay connected to external reality, they can work together very directly. You see what is happening, identify the point that matters most, and act without needing a long period of analysis.

You may become skilled at testing methods, comparing outcomes, concentrating resources, removing ineffective steps, and scaling whatever proves successful.

The objective may remain personally selected, but the mechanics used to reach it can be handled impersonally.

Once the result has been chosen, you may care less about whether the method is socially agreeable than whether it works:

A process either increases the output or it does not.

A strategy either changes the relevant variable or it does not.

A resource is either being used effectively or it is being wasted.

A system either supports the objective or obstructs it.

This can appear through management, entrepreneurship, investment, production, competitive strategy, technology, media, or any field that combines real-time response with practical organization.

You may become good at managing a live environment. You notice which resource is running low, what is holding performance back, and which intervention will get things moving again.

The same process can become iterative. You test one format, observe the result, alter the relevant variable, and test again:

An unsuccessful method is abandoned without sentimentality.

A successful method is repeated, refined, and expanded.

A spontaneous interest may thereby become a repeatable format, production system, organization, business, public platform, or lasting body of work.

In creative fields, Te integration may appear as the ability to turn a clear vision into a finished product. A film, musical identity, or public persona may require disciplined control over production, collaborators, resources, scheduling, presentation, and repeated output.

You may therefore remain aesthetically or emotionally unconventional while becoming highly disciplined in the practical work needed to sustain what you create.

Once the same pattern becomes visible across several moments, its likely continuation may also become easier to anticipate.

You may become more selective about which experiences deserve your attention. Two opportunities may feel equally vivid, but one may fit the larger direction taking shape while the other pulls away from it. Rather than entering every available experience, you may save your energy for the ones that fit the path you perceive.

In skilled or competitive domains, Ni integration may appear as an ability to understand the present field as one developing situation rather than a collection of separate movements.

You may recognize which opening is likely to become decisive before it is fully visible, ignore an immediate opportunity that would weaken the larger position, or make a small move that changes the direction of the entire field.

The action may look simple because the pattern has already become clear.

In artistic domains, sound, movement, texture, landscape, memory, sexuality, and imagery may come together into one atmosphere. The work no longer depends only on the force of each separate element, but on the way all of them express the same underlying pattern.

You may therefore create art that feels immersive and unified, as though all of its sensory elements belong to the same world.

Ni integration can also change the SeFi relationship with animism. The vitality you perceive in bodies, objects, places, and emotional states may begin to seem connected across a broader field.

This can create an attraction to symbolic or spiritual systems that connect immediate experiences to meanings beyond the present situation. You may notice the precise expression on someone’s face, the exact way one technique differs from another, a flaw in an image, a shift in the atmosphere, an inconsistency in what someone just said, or a physical detail that alters the entire situation.

Your attention behaves less like a rapidly branching web of associations and more like a high-resolution scanner. The longer you attend to something, the more clearly its distinctive features emerge.

This does not mean you are detail-oriented about everything. You may overlook many details that lie outside your current interest. But within the field that has captured you, your perception can become unusually exact.

Nor does this mean your attention is always fixed on your surroundings. You may have a rich inner life, become absorbed in analysis, private interests, imagined scenarios, or your own train of thought, and sometimes seem dreamy or absent-minded. Se describes a tendency to take in information and interact with the world through direct experience and immediate feedback; it does not mean you lack interiority or remain constantly alert to everything around you. Even when you are focusing inward, however, your thoughts may still be shaped by things you have directly observed, handled, tested, or learned through involvement.

The same tendency shapes how you approach abstract material. You are not necessarily uninterested in philosophy, theory, symbolism, or complex systems, but you often want their claims brought into sharper focus:

What exactly does this mean?

What would this look like in practice?

What follows from it literally?

What is it actually claiming?

You may take an impressive-sounding abstraction and bring it down to earth. This is not necessarily a rejection of abstraction. You simply want the claim to become clear enough to examine.

Your baseline orientation is therefore realistic. You tend to trust what can be observed, demonstrated, attempted, or made to happen. Once the relevant reality appears clear, you may express your conclusion with little ambiguity:

This is what I see.

This is what is happening.

This is how things are.

This is what I want.

That certainty does not have to come from having constructed an elaborate explanation beforehand. It may arise because the relevant answer feels plainly visible within the situation itself.

Because your perception remains closely connected to what is present, recurring irritations may also be difficult to tune out, unless something else captures your attention more fully. Repetitive noise, poor lighting, awkward spacing, uncomfortable clothing, inactivity, or an irritating behavioral habit can continue imposing themselves on your attention.

Immersion and Stimulation

More than spontaneity alone, you are characterized by a hunger for immersion.

You are drawn toward activities that can absorb your senses, timing, attention, and instincts at once. The activity must give something back: movement to track, resistance to overcome, reactions to read, variations to explore, or consequences that become immediately perceptible.

This can include obvious physical activities such as sport, dance, performance, or hands-on craft, but the underlying process is not restricted to physicality. A competitive video game, an unfolding business situation, a live technical problem, or an intellectually rich subject can provide the same engagement when it continually presents new information to examine and respond to.

You tend to understand such activities from within. You place yourself in contact with the situation, observe what happens, and revise your approach. Knowledge grows through an active exchange between perception and action.

This can make you highly adaptable. Because you remain attentive to what is actually occurring, you can abandon an ineffective approach quickly rather than preserving it merely because it was previously chosen.

You often function well where conditions are changing and no complete procedure can be followed in advance. Instead of becoming paralyzed by the absence of certainty, you work with the information currently available and update your response as the situation develops.

Selective Mastery

When an activity continues producing challenge, variation, feedback, or direct involvement, you may become extraordinarily dedicated.

You can practice for years, tolerate setbacks, and develop exceptional competence because the activity itself remains alive. There is always another opponent, movement, technique, reaction, sound, or degree of control to discover.

Your discipline is therefore often domain-specific rather than universal.

You may be relentless in the area you love while remaining casual, disorganized, or resistant to routine elsewhere. You can spend countless hours perfecting one skill while neglecting paperwork, distant preparations, domestic structure, or obligations that feel detached from immediate engagement.

This can confuse observers. They may see exceptional achievement and assume that an equally orderly personality must exist behind it. In reality, your consistency often depends on whether the activity continues to stimulate your perception and invite active participation.

Your commitment is not necessarily sustained by reverence for discipline itself, but by the continued vitality of the pursuit.

When the game remains alive, you remain alive inside it. When the activity becomes inert, bureaucratic, or purely obligatory, your motivation can collapse with startling speed.

The standard SeTi pattern is therefore: intense commitment where there is genuine engagement, casual neglect where there is not.

You may enjoy competition, speed, risk, timing, technical execution, visible improvement, or simply the pleasure of doing something well. Even when you become highly accomplished, you may resist treating performance with excessive solemnity.

Competence feels immediate to you. You may press an advantage, challenge a limitation, or bring an intention into material form without waiting for every hypothetical complication to be resolved. This can create boldness and confidence, but also cockiness when your certainty exceeds your actual command of the situation.

When supported by genuine ability, however, this confidence can become highly charismatic. It feels anchored in presence rather than explanation. You do not need to describe a philosophy of strength; the strength is apparent in how readily you enter the contest.

Direct Expression and Sensory Presence

Your speech often remains close to immediate experience. You recount concrete events, visible reactions, and situations that captured your attention, frequently conveying them as though placing the listener inside the scene:

I noticed that.

Your descriptions can become visual, visceral, graphic, funny, or unusually specific. Rather than summarizing only the general meaning of an event, you may reproduce the details that made it vivid to you.

This does not mean every SeTi individual is sexually expressive or socially flamboyant, but aesthetic experience is often encountered as something immediate and transformative rather than merely contemplated at a distance:

In a standard development, your social influence often emerges through participation rather than deliberate organization. You may affect the atmosphere through humor, confidence, attractiveness, skill, intensity, or physical presence without consistently assuming responsibility for determining what the group should collectively pursue or how the interaction ought to be arranged.

You enter the social field and work with what it gives back. You may entertain, tease, provoke, compete, flirt, collaborate, or draw attention, but this influence remains more situational than intentionally governed by a sustained external judgment.

Freedom and Structure

You generally prefer enough freedom to respond to the situation as it develops.

You may resist being overmanaged, especially when an imposed procedure appears detached from current conditions. Rules that no longer correspond to reality, or obligations maintained only because they are conventional, can feel needlessly restrictive.

This does not mean that you reject discipline. You may submit to demanding training, coaching, rehearsal, or technical limitation when you can see the connection between the restriction and the result.

Your selective discipline may create another imbalance. You can develop exceptional mastery in one area while allowing the supporting structure of your life to remain unstable. The responsibilities that bore you may nevertheless determine whether the activity you value can continue.

You may also overestimate your ability to improvise out of difficulty. Because adaptability has often worked for you, you can assume it will continue working even after the consequences have become cumulative or irreversible.

Poorly integrated Ti can leave your judgments dependent on the immediate object or situation without a sufficiently stable sense of its essential nature. You may detect that something is inaccurate, impure, poorly fitted, or improperly classified without clearly identifying which defining property has been violated. You may also treat contextual or accidental features as though they belonged to the object itself, or fail to apply the same ideal distinction consistently across similar cases.

Poorly integrated Fe can leave you insufficiently attentive to conscious purposes and external ethical implications when making decisions. You may recognize what is materially happening without consistently considering what people are trying to accomplish, which human ends a system serves, or what shared interpretation the situation is producing. At other times, this may reverse into irregular attempts to shape the human environment through charm, provocation, pressure, shame, excitement, or visible approval and disapproval.

Poorly integrated Ni can leave events overly localized. You may see the immediate facts clearly while missing the wider pattern they instantiate across other contexts, relationships, domains, or moments. The larger significance may become apparent only after the same structure has repeated itself several times.

Function Integration

The integration of Ti, Fe, and Ni changes how your Se orientation is internally classified, organized around human purposes, and situated within wider patterns.

Ti sharpens your recognition of an object’s essential identity and its proximity to an ideal form. Fe increasingly organizes actuality around conscious aims, collective interpretations, interpersonal effects, and the responses they are meant to produce. Ni perceives the local situation as an instance of structures that recur beyond its immediate context and converge toward broader outcomes.

Ti Integration

As Ti becomes integrated, you become more attentive to what something essentially is.

As a Ji function, Ti is essentialist in nature. It examines an object in relative isolation and compares it against an internally held ideal category. The question is not only whether something works in the current situation, but what kind of thing it fundamentally is, which properties properly belong to it, and how closely the present instance conforms to its purest definition.

You may therefore ask:

What is the defining property here?

Does this example genuinely belong to that category?

Which features are essential and which are incidental?

How closely does this expression fit the ideal form?

Have two fundamentally different things been improperly conflated?

This creates a caliber sensitivity. A technique may be recognizable as the right general movement while still feeling impure in its execution. A word may be approximately correct but not the closest match. An explanation may point in the right direction while incorporating properties that do not belong to the concept itself.

You may therefore become very exact about distinctions.

This can appear in physical or technical domains:

That angle is almost right, but not clean.

That note is close, but slightly off.

That material belongs to the same class, but its properties differ in an important way.

That performance contains the right form, but not at its highest caliber.

It can also appear in abstract domains:

Those concepts overlap, but they are not identical.

That interpretation mistakes a derivative feature for the defining one.

That word carries associations that distort the object being described.

That case does not conform closely enough to the category being applied.

In creative domains, the same process may appear as a strong sensitivity to whether a sound, image, gesture, style, or persona captures the intended form without dilution. You may reject a technically polished result because it feels generic, derivative, falsely classified, or fundamentally untrue to the object being expressed.

You may strip away familiar conventions in order to expose a more essential form, resist genre boundaries that misrepresent the work, or repeatedly alter an arrangement until it matches the private standard you recognize. The result may not look orderly or conventionally refined. It may be raw, fragmented, minimal, abrasive, unconventional, or difficult to categorize while still feeling internally exact.

This can also apply to personal identity. You may be highly sensitive to whether a role, image, label, or mode of expression genuinely corresponds to who you understand yourself to be. An externally successful persona can be abandoned when it begins to feel false in form, while an unconventional expression may be preserved despite ridicule because it fits the internal calibration more faithfully.

Ti integration does not inherently make you procedural, deductive, formally logical, or systematically organized. Those qualities may develop through education or through interaction with other cognitive processes, but they are not Ti’s defining operation.

Its more basic contribution is the formation of an internally held ideal against which individual perceptions can be calibrated.

This can noticeably alter the visible character of SeTi. You may appear more exacting, distilled, philosophically self-contained, conceptually sparse, or resistant to contextual pressure than the standard form.

The urgency of the present no longer determines every judgment. An action may be effective while still feeling fundamentally wrong in form. A popular interpretation may be widely useful while still misclassifying the object. A practical shortcut may be rejected because it compromises the essential integrity of the activity.

The risk is excessive idealization. You may become preoccupied with purity, reject workable approximations because they fail to match the internal ideal, or ignore contextual differences that legitimately alter how a category should be applied.

You may also have difficulty explaining your judgment. The calibration can register immediately and holistically - something simply feels clean, distorted, exact, or impure - without arriving through an explicit sequence that others can easily follow.

Fe Integration

As Fe becomes integrated, actuality is being interpreted in relation to human purposes, intentions, and shared meanings.

Fe is a teleological form of judgment. Rather than viewing an action, object, institution, or causal arrangement only through its impersonal mechanics, it asks what conscious purpose it serves, what people are trying to accomplish through it, and what human outcome the situation should be organized toward.

An object is therefore not understood only through what it physically does.

A vehicle may be the means by which someone reaches their family, earns a living, or preserves independence.

Money may be understood not only as an exchange mechanism, but as a collective agreement sustained by trust.

A rule may be judged not only by how efficiently it controls behavior, but by the human purpose it was created to serve.

A performance may be understood through the experience it creates for the audience, not merely through its technical execution.

As Fe becomes integrated, you may ask:

What are the people involved trying to accomplish?

Which purpose does this arrangement serve?

What response should this action produce in others?

What shared meaning should be attached to what is happening?

How should people participate for the intended outcome to become possible?

This can lead you to more deliberately shape the human environment.

You may set the social tone, draw people into a shared activity, establish visible expectations, encourage or discourage behaviors, persuade others toward a conclusion, or coordinate participation around a common objective.

The Se foundation can make this especially responsive to the live field. You may notice what the group is doing now, which intention is driving the interaction, where enthusiasm is rising or falling, and which intervention might immediately alter the atmosphere or the meaning being assigned to the event.

Rather than only participating in an environment, you may begin determining how it should be interpreted.

In public or competitive settings, this can become especially visible. You may frame what a contest represents, define the stakes, establish how rivals or participants should be perceived, and create expectations for how others should respond before the result is settled. The human purpose being organized need not be benevolent, egalitarian, or conventionally noble. It may concern victory, prestige, loyalty, intimidation, collective confidence, entertainment, admiration, rivalry, or the public elevation of a person, team, nation, or ideal.

Confidence may become more than a private state. It can be displayed as a social signal intended to inspire allies, unsettle rivals, attract attention, or make a particular outcome feel inevitable.

You may cultivate a memorable public identity, dramatize the significance of a performance, turn personal achievement into a visible standard, or create a larger-than-life persona that others are invited to admire, challenge, imitate, or oppose.

Integration does not necessarily make Fe benevolent. It makes teleological judgment concerning conscious agents more sustained, explicit, and central to the personality. The same capacity that can inspire, coordinate, or represent others can also organize status, pressure, antagonism, exclusion, humiliation, or dominance when those are the human outcomes toward which the person is oriented.

Ni Integration

As Ni becomes integrated, the immediate event is being perceived as one local expression of a broader translocal pattern.

Ni does not only extend attention into the future. It notices structural correspondences across contexts that are not connected through obvious local adjacency. Two events may occur in different periods, relationships, domains, or locations while still expressing the same underlying form.

You may therefore ask:

What larger pattern is this an instance of?

Where else does this same structure appear?

What general form connects these otherwise separate events?

What does this moment signify beyond its local circumstances?
How is this pattern likely to continue unfolding?

A competitive exchange may echo a broader power dynamic.

A personal habit may reproduce a pattern visible elsewhere in someone’s life.

A social conflict may instantiate the same structure as a historical or symbolic narrative.

A present decision may be recognized as one stage within a pattern extending across time.

This gives the actuality perceived by Se a wider significance.

You remain attentive to the concrete facts of the present, but they are no longer treated as self-contained. Separate observations begin converging into a more unified read of what the situation is becoming.

A repeated reaction may reveal the deeper structure governing someone’s behavior.

Several isolated openings may point toward one decisive path.

A sequence of events may clarify which outcomes remain viable and which are gradually being eliminated.

What first appeared chaotic may begin resolving into a recognizable trajectory.

Trajectory therefore follows from translocal pattern recognition. If the same structure can be perceived across past and present moments, its likely continuation may also become visible.

You may also become more selective about which opportunities deserve engagement. Two options may look equally compelling in the immediate moment, but one belongs to the larger path you perceive while the other leads away from it.

Rather than reacting equally to every opening, you may ignore locally attractive options that do not contribute to the broader outcome.

In competitive or high-pressure settings, this can appear as strategic patience, predictive timing, selective aggression, and the ability to treat separate exchanges as parts of one unfolding structure rather than isolated moments.

You may spend an early phase gathering information, noticing repeated responses, testing which variables remain stable, and allowing the deeper pattern to clarify before committing fully.

Once the pattern becomes legible, your behavior may narrow rapidly. Exploration gives way to convergence. Several possible routes collapse into one clear course, and your actions begin serving an outcome that may not yet be obvious to others.

This can create an air of inevitability. The present is handled as though the result is already taking shape beneath it.

In other settings, the same process may appear as recognizing which career path, relationship dynamic, creative direction, or social development is becoming increasingly likely, then concentrating your effort accordingly.

Ni integration can therefore make SeTi appear more restrained, strategic, interpretive, patient, or singularly focused than the standard form.

Se identifies what is concretely happening. Ni perceives what larger structure the event belongs to and where that structure is converging. You may remain highly responsive to changing conditions while refusing to let every immediate stimulus divert you from the larger path.

The risk is overgeneralization and premature convergence. You may see one pattern everywhere, treat superficial correspondences as profound equivalences, or narrow toward an outcome before enough information has accumulated. You may become overly certain that the trajectory is inevitable, interpreting new information only as confirmation of where you already believe events are going.

You may also sacrifice valuable present opportunities because they do not fit the pattern you have selected, or attempt to remain on the path toward an anticipated outcome that reality no longer supports.

Behavioral Principles:

1. Based on Bayesian Probabilities:

These behavioral descriptions are based on Bayesian statistics, identifying traits statistically linked to specific functions or types, and which are distinct from the population's average. However, this doesn't necessarily mean most individuals of a given type will display these traits. For instance, if 80% of vegans are Fi users but only 6% of the population is vegan, it follows that the majority of Fi users are still not vegan due to the overall low prevalence of veganism. However, this would still indicate a valid statistical correlation between Fi and veganism. These profiles describe correlations of this kind, which are true at the population level.

2. Universal (Not Individual) Predictors:

Because of this, CT's behavioral profiles are more about outlining general trends within a type rather than predicting the traits of individual people. For example, if you're a Te-lead, you might have a 75% higher likelihood of being a News Anchor than the population's average, but the odds of you being one will still be low. Shades:

Surveys:

Judgment:

Judgment embodies a deep-seated desire for control over reality, utilizing concepts and ideas to achieve a sense of rational certainty. Perception:

Perception is characterized by its impressionistic and metaphorical nature, which allows for a more nuanced and poetic grasp of reality. Perception captures reality not through definite, rational arguments but through a seamless blend of experiences. Flowing with perception leads to an aptitide with dynamic domains such as music, painting, narrative-writing, screen-writing, as well as understanding social evolutions and cultural nuances. Perception understands the world through shades of grey; via gradients and spectrums rather than definite categories.

Je Articulator:

Je, the Articulator, is so named because its expression is linked both to verbal articulation as well as the articulation of our body towards a given aim. It is chiefly concerned with ordering causality, either personally or by delegation, into an optimal arrangement. Ji Compass:

Ji, the Compass, is so named because its purpose is to point the individual ever north regardless of context, obstacles, or circumstances. There is an obsession in Ji to live right by one's ideals, to be true in word and deed, and to never yield for practicality's sake. Ji also cultivates a unique identity, independent of origin, always striving to embody a perfect ethical and aesthetic self. Ji cherishes personal dignity, despite often feeling inadequate compared to its own high aspirations. It's perfectionism also manifests in meticulous attention to detail and a preference for quality over quantity.

Pe Explorer:

Pe, the Explorer function, is so named because it's purpose is to seek and absorb the full richness of life, its opportunities, potential discoveries and the newness brought to us by every waking moment. Pe is insatiably curious and this often leads to restlessness in monotonous environments, driving Pe types to continually seek new horizons, whether physical or intellectual. Pe's plasticity allows for constant adaptation and reinvention, making learning new skills second nature. However, this quest for novelty can lead to societal disruption and a flirtation with danger, as boundaries are tested and old structures dismantled.

Pi, the Worldview function, is so named because it provides a mental tapestry that informs us of what the social, physical and global terrain is like in the present context. It interprets every moment as fitting within a bigger story, never leaving the individual lost or uncertain as to where they are in the wider world, or in history. Pi builds global narratives and accumulates a depth of knowledge over time. It manifests a sense of steadiness and temperance, viewing things with a measured skepticism. Pi excels in predicting future trends, using its understanding of history to anticipate what's to come.

Te:

The Te function approaches life with a mechanical mindset, seeking truth through understanding clockwork relationships. They thrive in domains with logical computation and interactions between variables, such as computer programming, physics and engineering. Their strategic approach often leads them into entrepreneurial ventures and politics. In professional settings, their result-oriented mindset and ability to tackle necessary tasks makes them able leaders, although navigating the social aspects of teamwork can be a challenge. Yet, despite their blunt communication, Te users bring a refreshing honesty and wit to discussions, cutting through ambiguity with forthrightness.

Fe:

The Fe function seeks to understand the organizational principles of collectives, percieving relationships as a network of transactions and implicit social contracts, constantly being negotiated. It sees humans has having a malleable character, shaped by these interactions for better or worse, and aims to move itself and the collective towards ideal mind-heart states by optimizing interactions. Fe advocates for having strong willpower, believing in the power of the mind over physical limitations, using discipline and resilience to overcome obstacles that restrict people from doing what they were meant to do in life and reaching the destiny and higher purpose they are called to fulfil.

Ti:

The Ti function is driven by a quest for ideal platonic descriptions, seeking to distill concepts to their purest form, beyond sensory or temporal constraints. Ti users often engage in reductionism, questioning fundamental assumptions and dissecting ideas to their core, leaving only a minimalist framework behind. In finding these platonic forms, Ti is driven by a gestalt intuition for what forms are most elegant. It engages in frame-formation, altering how a concept is understood by finding a better semantic framing of what that idea is. This often leads to idiosyncratic interpretations that Ti users steadfastly adhere to, regardless of popular consensus.

Fi:

The Fi function is on a quest to find the living principles lying at the core of the universe and nature, and to live in harmony with these ideals. This journey unfolds internally, guided by a profound connection to a deeper, often spiritual, essence that leads them towards the authenticity of their true selves. This includes removing internal emotional distortions that dissalow them from being well attuned to the divine spirit residing within them. As they search, many Fi users find in their core something raw, wild and untamed, leading them embody that nature in idiosyncratic artistic expressions.

Ne:

The Ne function is characterized by a relentless quest for novelty and creative associations. It is adept at linking disparate ideas, leading to unique interpretations and "what if" scenarios. Ne users often find themselves engrossed in their own imaginative worlds, becoming inattentive to their surroundings. They have a talent for juggling a variety of hobbies, though mastery in one area is rare due to a preference for topic-hopping. They often exhibit quirky humor and are naturals at improvisation, using wordplay and off-the-wall associations. They are adept at mimicry and parody, effortlessly assuming different personas in social contexts.

Se:

The Se function is characterized by an acute awareness of the present, giving users a vivid, photographic perception of the world. This leads to a strong appreciation for realism and a focused, immersive attention to tasks. This focus translates into a clear sense of volition and desire, often making them proactive and opportunistic in chasing their favored rush. They excel in situations that require flow, where they can react instantly to dynamic pursuits like music, dance and athletic activities. Their keen sensitivity to stimuli also gives them an egonomic and aesthetic focus, and a natural familiarity with sensual energy and expression.

Ni:

The Ni function synthesizes data into visual schemas and metaphors, interpreting reality through image-encoded relationships. This results in a worldview based on canonical symbolic representations, such as the Taoist yin-yang symbol, giving Ni an affinity for symbology, numerology, sacred geometry and the like. Ni users often view reality as a convergent whole, unified through isomorphic relationships that span between disparate domains - whether they be mental, physical, social or spiritual. This gives Ni users a holism when analyzing global narratives and social structures, as embodiments of eternal patterns manifesting in time.

Si:

The Si function understands life as a series of events located in specific moments in time, and tied to each other in definite relationships. Si is keenly focused on accuracy and readily notices misquotations, invalid facts and is generally skeptical of unverified data. Si users emphasize the importance of understanding the historical context of things, frequently incorporating additional narrative details in their discussions. Thus, Si users often have an appreciation for history which drives them to gather extensive knowledge, often becoming avid readers, storytellers, and experts in many fields like anthropology, geography, and archeology.

The development profiles are short writeups of the 4 energetics (Ji, Je, Pi, Pe) in the eight developments (l---, ll--, l-l-, l--l, lll-, ll-l, l-ll, llll), giving rise to 32 total profiles. The Project:

Cognitive Typology (CT) is a research project, with an evolving theory attached to it. It gathers body-mannerism data and forms testable hypotheses about the connection between cognition and physical expressions. The project began from an investigation of whether Jung's Psychological Types have a physically measurable reality to them in bodily expressions; what we call vultology. This exploration led to groundbreaking findings that now underpin the theory.

A Scientific Approach:

CT stands out from conventional typological models by being inherently designed for scientific verification or falsification. Each component of the CT Model is meticulously developed as a testable hypothesis, ensuring that only elements susceptible to objective validation by external parties are included. CT is committed to conducting formal studies on each aspect of its theory, and is in the process of establishing its own Journal to disseminate these findings. CT is not currently validated by independent parties, but is in the process of seeking peer review.

Basic Hypotheses:

Cognitive Typology is based on four basic hypotheses, which establish the framework for the field of vultology as a whole:

1. Consistency of Action Signatures: Every individual’s body mannerisms display a consistent, distinct pattern over time, when analyzed across days and weeks. Despite the universal potential for various expressions, each person exhibits a relatively fixed and unique repertoire of physical expressions, forming their personal action “signature.”

2. Genetic Basis of Action Signatures: Comparative analysis of identical twins, including those separated for extended periods, reveals a shared body mannerism signature. This indicates that these signatures are less influenced by environmental factors and more by genetic predispositions, pointing to an inherent, possibly genetic, origin.

3. Bi-directionality Between Cognition and Action: Existing research supports a bidirectional relationship between cognitive processes and physical expressions. The brain’s sensorimotor and language-processing areas are interconnected, mutually influencing each other. Body movements affect our ability process cognition such as language, and conversely, language-processing impacts our body movement automatically.

4. Detecting Hereditary Cognitions via Action Signatures: Building on the premises that (A) action signatures are inherent to individuals, (B) have a genetic basis, and (C) are linked to certain cognitive activities, it is hypothesized that (D) predispositions towards particular cognitive activities are genetically ingrained. Consequently, individuals with the same action signatures may share similar cognitive styles and genetic or epigenetic characteristics.

Theory Hypotheses:

In addition to the basic hypotheses, the following hypotheses are specific to the existing CT theory:

1. Energetic Clusters: Human movement can be shown to naturally cluster along two action-based axes: Proactivity/Reactivity and Rigidity/Fluidity. This "Energetic" clustering is multi-modality, with most people preferring one of the four clusters, rather than lying in the middle. Additionally, distinct psychological traits group around these action clusters, indicating a cognitive connection between Energetics and cognition.

2. Style Clusters: Human movement can be shown to naturally cluster along two style-based axes: Candid/Measured and Grounded/Suspended. This "Style" clustering is somewhat multi-modal, with most people preferring one cluster of each pair, rather than lying in the middle. Distinct psychological traits also group around these style clusters, indicating a cognitive connection between Styles and cognition.

Together, these two hypotheses produce 4 groups of 4 types, resulting in 16 vultological variations or types.

Relation to Jung:

The phenomenon we are investigating exhibits a strong isomorphism with certain interpretations of Jungian typology. In Cognitive Typology (CT), this observation suggests that we're perceiving the same phenomenon that Jung identified, albeit from a distinct perspective. This opens the door to independently corroborating Jung's typological concepts through tangible, measurable means. However, CT approaches this with a critical eye, not taking Jung's postulations as given. Every aspect of his theory is subjected to thorough scrutiny, retaining only those elements that are backed by empirical evidence. Consequently, CT presents a dynamic, evidence-based revision of Jungian typology, integrating it with empirical observations and experiments, selectively validating components based on data findings.

History:

The Cognitive Typology (CT) initiative emerged in 2012, catalyzed by a challenge from Pod'lair, which claimed to have uncovered the ultimate truth of human nature through its mind-to-body signal cues. Pod'lair's open invitation for other Jungian groups to surpass their work was largely overlooked, except by Juan Sandoval, who rose to the occasion. This endeavor led to a different approach, contrasting Pod'lair's reliance on qualitative and intuitive cues. CT developed a different framework based on separate, more tangible and explicit signals. After extensive trial and refinement, Sandoval, together with Renee Bayard, formalized the CT system in their first book publication in 2016.

Credits:

Cognitive Typology (CT) owes much credit to Jonathan Rock and Thomas Chenault from Pod'lair, for their initial work on mind-to-body signals. On the theoretical side of things, much credit is due to Michael Pierce, as well as Carl Jung, Katharine Briggs, Isabel Briggs Myers, Aushra Augusta, Harold Grant, Naomi Quenk, Linda Berens and many other influences too numerous to name. Since CT's formalization in 2016, credit is also due to the certified vultologist team, particularly Calin Copil and many community members who have helped continue to refine and expand the model and database into what it is today.

Model 1:

The cognitive phenomenon that CT explores can be discussed without any reference to Carl Jung. However, CT's Model 1 consciously adopts Jungian terminology, proposing that it fundamentally addresses the same phenomenon that Jung saw. Nonetheless, the model diverges by providing more specific and detailed definitions for Jungian concepts such as T/F/N/S/J/P and the eight functions. This divergence is a natural progression in the scientific field, where new insights enhance and refine the work of predecessors. CT acknowledges its intellectual heritage from Jung, even as it reinterprets many concepts to better suit modern scientific inquiry.

Empirical Domains:

The Empirical Domains (Behavior and Vultology) of Model 1 perform direct experimentation by gathering body-mannerism data and comparing that to demographic, career, and psychometric data to find strong or weak connections between the mind and body. These observations are published as research studies and are used by the analytical domains to construct interpretations of what that means about the nature of cognition.

Analytical Domains:

The Analytical Domains (Metabolism and Psychodynamics) of Model 1 construct theoretical interpretations from the results of data gathered by the empirical domains. The analytical domains also perform experiments, but aimed towards verifying or falsifying these interpretations. Those analytical theories are also put to the test every time new samples are examined by the empirical domains, leading to a cycle of theory-correction and refinement.

Four Layers of Emergence:

Model 1 describes cognitive type from the smallest scales to the largest scales, through four successive layers of emergence. The Metabolism domain focuses on brain processing and ontological registration. The Vultology domain examines non-verbal cues and physical expressions that arise from said cognitive activity. The Behavior domain tracks lifestyle patterns, career paths and prominent psychic motifs which result from the former two. Finally, the Psychodynamics domain considers how cognitive functions give rise to our lifelong struggles with our ego, our shadow, and a special relationship to our unconscious.

Metabolism:

Metabolism, or information metabolism, is the first of four layers of emergence in CT theory, lying at the root of all others. It refers to our method of processing information at the cortical level. This brain activity happens at the millisecond scale and occurs before any behavioral effects are observed. Theoretically, this activity is identifiable using brain scans, while language analysis and questionaires are less reliable but simpler methods of identification.

Vultology:

Vultology is the second of four layers of emergence in CT theory, emerging from the Metabolic layer. It describes the secondary bodily effects that arise from our method of processing information. This layer is tracked at the scale of seconds, making it possible to know a person's type within roughly twenty minutes of clean footage. As vultology is a step removed from metabolism, it is subject to some noise interferences in how cognition may translate to bodily expression. Nevertheless, with expert training, it's possible to attain ~90%-95% accuracy.

Behavior:

Behavior is the third of four layers of emergence in CT theory, emerging from the previous two. It describes behaviors, lifestyle patterns, career choices, habits, beliefs and psychological motifs that arise from people with a given vultology and metabolism. This layer is tracked at the scale of days and weeks. Behavior is two steps removed from metabolism and does not have a 1:1 relationship cognition, as no single behavior is absolutely indicative of a type. However, profiles are written that describe statistically significant behaviors that apply broadly to the individuals with that specific vultology.

Psychodynamics:

Psychodynamics is the fourth layer of emergence in CT theory, emerging from the previous three. It describes the way that cognitive type merges with the rest of the psyche to shape the formation of our egoic personality, as well as our shadow personality and the contents of our unconscious. It offers a means of understanding lifelong struggles with certain archetypes, and the natural affinity we have to those archetypes that resonate with our cognitive type. This layer is tracked at the scale of months and years.

Model 2:

The connection that CT shares with Jungian typology is explored in Model 1 by its many convergences with it, yet the alignment is not exact. Oppositely, Model 2 presents an independent conceptualization of the phenomenon, steering clear of Jungian terminology. From an academic standpoint, Model 2 allows for empirical investigation without reliance on Jung's theories, which often face skepticism in academic circles. Utilizing a Cognitive Architecture approach, Model 2 employs computational language to hypothesize about brain activity within CT theory and its psychological implications. This precise computational framework opens up numerous novel research avenues, surpassing the limitations inherent in traditional Jungian typology.

Cognitive Architecture:

The Cognitive Typology Architecture (CTA) is an architecture which describes the construction and management of objects through two core information systems: (P)erception and (J)udgment. The perception system manages spatiotemporal information, while the judgment system handles ideal information. Each system contains a positive (+) and negative (-) polarity, allowing for information to oscillate through the system in a feedback cycle. This creates four charge states (P+, P-, J-, J+) as the main processing modules of the architecture: Information Gathering (P+), Object Delineation (J-), Temporal Contextualizing (P-) and Procedural Processing (J+). These four modules comprise the creation, definition, contextualization and manipulation of objects in the mental and physical world.

Pseudocode Analogies:

The Cognitive Typology Architecture (CTA) makes use of computer code to represent its operations. These computer algorithms are first written in program-agnostic pseudocode, which can then be translated to any particular programming language. By encoding brain functions into computer algorithms, the precise effects of those functions can be observed, allowing us to test whether the code produces the expected behavioral outcomes we observe, when the function is run for long periods. The goal of the CTA is to create a cognitive architecture that precisely represents the way in which the 16 types metabolize information, creating a model of human cognition in the process.

Complete Type Code:

The CT model operates with a foundational structure of 16 types, yet it extends beyond this to incorporate additional psychic components. These include 8 developments, 2 emotional attitudes, and 2 categories within the general fallen affect scale. Integrating these elements results in a highly specific classification system, capable of differentiating 1 in 512 unique combinations. Factoring in sex-specific psychological variances further refines the model, doubling its resolution to 1024 distinct subtypes. The CT model can precisely classify types by notations such as FiSe ll-- Seelie Female, which denote very specific subtype characteristics. This allows for a far tighter psychological fit than what traditional 16 type models offer.

In the CT Model, it's acknowledged that every individual can develop their lower three functions in any possible order, or to remain in a certain development perpetually. This gives rise to eight possible developments that individuals may exist within. Developments are not static, and always have the ability to change over the course of years, according to life circumstances and personal transformations.

No development is seen as necessarily superior to another, and instead each development represents a different way to distribute one's psychic energy. The Standard (l---) development has the highest concentration of psychic energy in just the first function, while the Balanced (llll) development has the same amount of psychic energy, but split between four priorities.

2 Emotional Attitudes:

Emotional attitudes (EA) refers to common styles of emotional expression which can be read through a person's vultology. There are currently two emotional attitudes that are visually measured: guarded and unguarded. Each style can be displayed in high or low quantities, and if neither attitude is represented strongly, the person is termed neutral. These expressions correspond to a person's relationship to the social world, and how they choose to interact with the environment. Unguarded expressions overlap with agreeableness, while Guarded expressions overlap with disagreeableness.

Guarded and Unguarded have different names, based on whether the person's J axis is Ti-Fe or Fi-Te, due to the different vultological manifestations they have in the two axes.

2 Fallen Affects:

Fallen Affect (FA) is a facial signal linked to the neuroticism spectrum. It's measured on a scale of 0 to 5, indicating the intensity of emotional heaviness in a person's facial expression. It's characterized by a persistent downward pull in the eyes, brow, and mouth corners. FA has crossover with Ekman's Sadness signal, but is a persistent aspect of one's countenance, rather than a temporary expression. A FA score of 3 or higher is a predictor of mental distress or mental illness. Psychodynamically, a strong FA reflects ongoing psychological struggles and potential shadow function integration. People with a strong FA have a keener familiarity with the darker elements of human psychology.

Sex Differences:

Biological and sociological influences affect how males and females express themselves. These features impart an additional layer of complexity, influencing the manifestation of cognitive types. As a result, males and females have different expressive baselines, which are necessary to learn, to properly identify the types. CT refines its analysis of the 16 types by considering the variances in how these types are expressed in male and female forms, fostering a more nuanced perspective.

Other Personality Aspects:

The CT model acknowledges its scope as a "limited hypothesis," recognizing that it does not encompass the entirety of an individual's psychological profile. Despite its high resolution of 1024 types, it addresses primarily cortical activities within a world of billions of unique psychological manifestations. CT underscores the necessity of integrating additional frameworks to attain a more comprehensive understanding of the psyche. Systems like the Enneagram, which emphasize limbic variations and defense mechanisms, are essential complements to CT for a fuller exploration of individual psychological differences.

The following summaries are displayed in the Metabolism Index page. For further information on each of these sections, visit the index.

Metabolism, or information metabolism, is the first of four layers of emergence in CT theory, lying at the root of all others. It refers to our method of processing information at the cortical level. This brain activity happens at the millisecond scale and occurs before any behavioral effects are observed.

Metabolic Principles:

1. Contentless Principle: Metabolism focuses on "how" information is processed, not "what" information is processed. As such, metabolism is void of specific contents, behaviors or beliefs but is the framework that generates all contents in a person. No specific belief or behavior belongs exclusively to any type or function.

2. Cognitive Holism Principle: All beliefs, opinions and behaviors are available to all types, but are accessed via different metabolic pathways. Via the combined processing of each type's metabolic functions, every person has direct or indirect acccess to each kind of psychic experience.

3. Distinct Ontology Principle: While any belief or behavior is accessible to every person, each type carries a distinct phenomenology, born from a different registration of the ontology of objects. This leads to implicit ontological biases forming around the nature of reality. These implicit biases are present even when explicit opinions appear to run contrary to them on the surface.

Judgment:

Judgment is a process of differentiation, whether it be true from false, right from wrong, good from bad, effective from ineffective, or any other dichotomy. The Judgment functions (Ti, Fi, Te, Fe) operate on the principle of reason, to make rational distinctions between objects or actions. Judgment splits up reality, labeling elements into these ideal categories by their properties, according to a personal criteria of judgment.

Perception:

Perception is a spatiotemporal process which gathers and archives graphical (non-semantic) information by the manner in which the information streams into the mind and is naturally associated. Perception does not differentiate between datasets according to any rational frameworks, but instead sees the organic starts and ends of datasets based on their volumetric limits.

Introversion:

Introversion is a cognitive process that restricts the intake or creation of new mental or physical objects. It represents a pause in all data intake, diverting the mind's focus solely towards more closely processing pre-existing contents, to either clarify their properties (Ji) or to contextualize them against already existing information (Pi). Existing data gets refined and condensed during this intermission.

Extroversion:

Extroversion is a cognitive process that seeks out or creates new mental or physical objects. It represents a proactive intake of data, engaging the mind in a dynamic dance with the environment. It shifts the mind's focus towards the influx of new information (Pe) or to its causal dynamics (Je). The amount of existing data gets expanded and broadened during this process.

Ji Essentialism:

Ji (introverted judgment) is a function that defines an object by its inner essence, and seeks to understand the innate qualities within a single object. Rather than comparing things to other things in a causal fashion (Je), Ji evaluates how a thing compares to itself in its static properties; judging whether it is self-aligned. Expressions of its functioning include the identification of self-contradictions, impurities of character, hypocrisy and asymmetry. If the individual is used as the central reference frame, then all things will be compared against themselves for alignment or misalignment in beliefs, ethics, reason, aesthetics and motives.

Je Pragmatism:

Je (extroverted judgment) is a function that defines an object by its interactions with other objects, seeking to understand and characterize objects by their causal dynamics. As objects can be mental or physical, these causal dynamics can also be modeled mentally or physically. The key operation at play is an input-output mechanism, which expects certain outcomes from certain initial inputs. Examples of content that may emerge from this mental process are economics theories, physics theories, social dynamic theories, politics, business as well as logistics and engineering.

Pi Time:

Pi (introverted perception) is a function that understands an object by its temporal wholeness, spanning far into the past and future. Percieved objects trigger a recollection and are associated to all prior instances of that object, anchoring them to their broader spatial and temporal context. This perspective views an object as the sum of its historical reality, as episodes or stories where the current situation is seen as one instance in a broader narrative at play. Examples of content that may emerge from this mental process are an understanding of history, sociology and anthropology, anticipations and predictions for the future, as well as philosophy and religion.

Pe Realtime:

Pe (extroverted perception) is a function that understands an object by its temporal immediacy, approaching it in a direct and experiential manner for what it is. Unlike other functions which approach objects through an interpretive framework or schema, Pe registers the immediate truth of an object's existence continuously, and seeks to explore the object curiously for its own sake, without being limited by past preconceptions. Examples of content that may emerge from this mental process are music composition, performance arts, creative arts, improv comedy and contemporary social commentary.

T: Inanimate

T is a cognitive process, shared between Ti and Te, which registers objects in an inanimate fashion. The T process assigns an ontological property to an object, which causes it to be experienced impersonally, regardless of whether the object is technically a person or living being. Objects are evaluated either mechanistically (Te) or platonically (Ti) with a level of distance from animate concerns.

F: Animate

F is a cognitive process, shared between Fi and Fe, which registers objects in an animate fashion. The F process assigns an ontological property to an object, which causes it to be experienced personally, regardless of whether the object is technically a living being or non-living. Objects are evaluated either teleologically (Fe) or animistically (Fi) with a level of intimacy and connection to animate concerns.

S: Literal

S is a cognitive process, shared between Se and Si, which registers objects in a literal fashion. The S process assigns an ontological property to an object, which causes it to be experienced discretely. Objects, whether they be mental or physical, are evaluated in an actual (Se) and local (Si) manner, with exact and specific properties. Data carries precise, factual details, and are defined by these details.

N: Associative

N is a cognitive process, shared between Ne and Ni, which registers objects in an associative fashion. The N process assigns an ontological property to an object, which causes it to be experienced continuously across a conceptual range, rather than discretely bound to specific properties. Objects, whether they be mental or physical, are seen as spectrums of potentiality (Ne), or to be found in some translocal associative web (Ni), rather than any one place or time exactly.

Fi: Animism

Fi is a function that defines an object by its essential nature (Ji), while also experiencing the object as having an animate (F) character. Objects are registered as has having a living property, thus triggering a personal relationship to that object's character, whether it's one of personal resonance or dissonance to it. This occurs even if the objects are inorganic, in which case the objects are not seen as alive but nonetheless having a character to them, defined by how they relate to animate concerns.

Fe: Teleology

Fe is a function that defines objects by their interactions with other objects (Je), while also experiencing them as having an animate (F) character and agency. Causal dynamics are thus registered as agent-dynamics; as interactions between different wills with intentions and aims. Each causal interaction thus becomes a mutual transformation of personalities and characters. This animate assignment occurs even if the objects are inorganic, in which case they are given a telic meaning; defined in relation to animate goals and concerns.

Ti: Platonism

Ti is a function that defines an object by its essential nature (Ji), while experiencing the object as having an inanimate (T) character. Objects are registered platonically, thus triggering a impersonal relationship to that object's character, causing it to be understood from a universal, general and removed place. This occurs even if the objects are technically alive, in which case the entities are registered by their universal and general properties; as instances of timeless human forms rather than as specific living essences.

Te: Mechanics

Te is a function that defines objects by their interactions with other objects (Je), while also experiencing them as having an inanimate (T) character. Causal dynamics are thus registered mechanistically; as impersonal clockwork operations that follow cleanly from their premises. This inanimate assignment occurs even if the objects are technically alive, in which case the entities are still examined clinically, but as complex biological systems with various requirements for optimal functioning. These needs may be met through actions, while those actions are still registered as being mechanical in nature.

Ni Translocality:

Ni is a function that expands its registration of an object to include its temporal totality (Pi); the larger episode or theme it belongs to. It then associates this episode to all historical instances of episodes which are isomorphic to it (N), transforming the definition of the object into a thematic story that is disconnected from any particular place or time. The object is then understood as something transcending the present; as an instance of something translocal and not following a linear chronologically from the past, while still being temporal in nature.

Ne Potentiality:

Ne is a function that absorbs objects in realtime (Pe), then extrapolates (N) new objects from their indiscriminate recombinations. Similar to how finding a ten dollar bill on the street opens up a spectrum of possibilities for what to do with the money, a possibility-space opens up around the objects Ne registers. In this space, Ne seeks out unconventional ideas for what the objects can transform or recombine into. As the recombinations become more unconventional, their capacity to generate even more novel association-chains increases, diverging ad infinitum.

Si Locality:

Si is a function that expands its registration of an object to include its temporal totality (Pi); the larger episode or theme it belongs to. It localizes (S) an event within its specific historical context, retaining its chronological fidelity and preserving its unique details. The episode in question is not conflated with other concepts that are not linearly or directly connected to it, but it preserves its original form in a discrete and time-bound manner. If the object is an abstract idea, the idea will be archived with clear properties and fixed conceptual boundaries.

Se Actuality:

Se is a function that absorbs objects in realtime (Pe), immersing itself into the subtleties of those objects (S). Similar to how two speakers can create an amplified echo when placed side by side, with each processing loop, Se's hyperfocus on objects heightens their intensity and vividity. It seeks objects with many layers of richness and detail to uncover, capable of providing high stimulation, whether those objects are abstract or concrete. If they are abstract objects, Se will immerse itself in those concepts with linear focus, learning everything it can from the subject.

Inter-Function Dynamics:

Inter-function dynamics refers to operations that transpire between two or more energetic functions. The operations of single functions comprise only a small percent of the effects we see manifested in individuals, while the majority of complex tasks require the use of more than one function at the same time. Special traits emerge from every combination of two functions together. These special combinations make up the unique metabolism of each Quadra and cognitive type.

Revision (Ji+Pe):

The combined operations of Ji+Pe is called revision, as it consists of a cycle between essence-delineation (Ji) and continual re-exploration (Pe). While Ji aims to provide conclusiveness about the essential nature of things, Pe provides an ongoing feed of alternative information, which compels Ji to recalibrate its conclusions to the new information. An example of revision can be seen when trying to write the perfect (Ji) essay, but continually finding different ways (Pe) to phrase a sentence. Revision can lead either to refinement on one hand, or indecisiveness on the other.

Conducting (Je+Pi):

The combined operations of Je+Pi is called conducting, as it consists of a cycle between causal dynamics (Je) and territory-mapping (Pi). As Pi builds and archives a map of the environment, this map enables Je to have uninterrupted movement forward, avoiding abstract or concrete obstacles along the way. An example of Conducting can be seen when trying to run for office (Je), and doing so from a holistic platform (Pi) that is dependable and unwavering. Conducting can lead to effective implementation on one hand, or narrow-mindedness on the other, if the map is wrong but the person continues to push forward regardless.

Density (Ji+Pi):

The combined operations of Ji+Pi is called density, as it consists of a cycle between essence-delineation (Ji) and territory-mapping (Pi), both of which further concentrate existing contents without branching outward. With each Ji+Pi metabolic cycle, information gets more internally nuanced in its worldview (Pi) and more specific in its conclusions (Ji). An example of Density can be found in biblical scholarship, which uncovers more information from the same scriptures by using comparative verse analysis and grammatical analysis. Density can lead to an increase in information quality and depth, or to cryptic obfuscation.

Expansion (Pe+Je):

The combined operations of Pe+Je is called expansion, as it consists of a cycle between gathering information (Pe) and immediately executing on that data (Je), without pausing to condense the data in between. Information comes in and actions comes right out without inhibition or hesitation. This allows the individual to bypass any mental blocks, to be highly prolific and fast in their output. Expansion can lead to high-speed content creation on one hand, but on the other hand this information is at risk of being low quality and unpolished.

Formulation (Ji+Je):

The combined operations of Ji+Je is called formulation, as it creates an internally-coherent system, where Ji sets the axioms through which Je's operational rules can function. Here Je, which normally responds to a dynamic and changing environment, is constrained to Ji's self-contained framework of ideal forms (Ji), creating a closed, ideal system. This essentially yields a 'formula,' not only for practical living but also for understanding life overall. Formulation can lead to powerful paradigm constructions on one hand, but also insular reasoning on the other hand.

Synthesis (Pe+Pi):

The combined operations of Pe+Pi is called synthesis, as it seamlessly flows from information intake (Pe) to information recall (Pi) and back. While new (Pe) and old (Pi) information typically have some friction between them, in synthesis the individual navigates the present and the past harmoniously. An example of synthesis can be found in the work of an film score composer, which weaves musical landscapes (Pi) together to fit specific moments in a film (Pe). Synthesis can lead to creative genius on one hand, or an experience so fluid that there is a loss of life structure on the other.

Alpha:

The Alpha quadra emerges through the combination of the Ti/Fe axis and Ne/Si axis. The four Alpha types are the TiNe, NeTi, FeSi and SiFe. These are called the "Diplomatic-Ephemeralists", however the entire cognition of the Alpha quadra is defined by all of its inter-function dnyamics: Diplomatic (Fe+Si), Ephemeral (Ti+Ne), Scholastic (Ti+Si), Inspirer (Fe+Ne), as well as the compound effects of IF, IN, ES, ET. Te+Ne Inventor:

The Te+Ne function combination merges Te's mechanistic causality with Ne's imaginative potential, creating a dynamic, inventive cognition. This cognitive union combines logistical strategies with creative possibilities, creating a scientific yet unconventional approach to problem-solving. Outside of science, this approach also produces an inventive approach towards human interaction, leading to witty, off-the-wall humor. The Te+Ne combination can lead to a strong innovative spirit on one hand, or to a scatterbrained tinkerer on the other.

Compound Effects:

Compound Effects are inter-function dynamics created when both poles of a function axis oscillate together rapidly, creating a third byproduct, similar to blending two colors on a spinning color wheel. For example, the activity of Si + Ne will combine to produce an attitude conjunction of "I" (from Si) and "N" (from Ne), into an "IN" compound effect. This effect is superficially similar to Ni proper, but is coming from an entirely different metabolic origin. Compound effects are not real functions, but are ways that every person is able to address every kind of life situation, using existing functions in combinations.

IT:

IT is a compound effect created by Fi→Te, or "Fi in service to Te." The compound is produced when Fi's essentialism, as a Ji function, is directed towards Te's objective and mechanistic causality. What results is a highly axiomatic formulation of objective inanimate processes, such as those investigated in formal logic, physics and mechanical laws. IT has the same general attitudes as Ti (I+T), but is coming from Fi-Te's metabolism and lacks the other properties of Ti proper, such as its gestalt ontological registration and frame formation.

ET:

ET is a compound effect created by Fe→Ti, or "Fe in service to Ti." The compound is produced when Fe's pragmatism, as a Je function, is evaluated by Ti describe the core operations of causality impersonally. What results is an inanimate conceptualization of objective domains other than the living, which are nonetheless looked at from the perspective of their relationship to the human meaning. ET has the same general attitudes as Te (E+T), but is coming from Ti-Fe's metabolism and lacks the other properties of Te proper.

IF:

IF is a compound effect created by Ti→Fe, or "Ti in service to Fe." The compound is produced when Ti's essentialism, as a Ji function, is directed towards Fe's objective & animate causality. What results is a highly personalized ethical formulation, and system of inner ethical alignment, which is nonetheless held as an procedural system that the self is measured against. IF has the same general attitudes as Fi (I+F), but is coming from Ti-Fe's metabolism and lacks the other properties of Fi proper, such as its gestalt, spontaneous resonance/dissonance.

EF:

EF is a compound effect created by Te→Fi, or "Te in service to Fi." The compound is produced when Te's causality-focus, as a Je function, is put towards understanding how individual essences are revered or betrayed society's overall structure. Te becomes the protector of personal essence, advocating for its right to exist freely as whatever it must. The results is a political system of organization which nonetheless place as its implicit focus the autonomy of individual essences. EF has the same general attitudes as Fe (E+F), but is coming from Fe-Ti's metabolism.

IN:

IN is a compound effect created by Si→Ne, or "Si in service to Ne." Cognitive Etiology

Research has shown that parts of the brain associated with speech and motor functioning are both active during gesticulation.[1] Language processing and motor system activation are bidirectionally interconnected, such that speech begets gestures in an automatic fashion.[2] As Je is the Articulator function, the production of hand gestures is therefore an inevitable result of its information metabolism.

When Projecting Hands is occurring, the person is outwardly embodying the general outlines of their ideas using gesture shapes and vectors. These vectors not only help with communication so that others understand the contents of their speech, but they also assist in the very production of the words themselves, as the brain generates its cognitive syntax more easily when activating the limbs in a way that roughly reflects the "shape" of the action-words being strung into sentences.

As mentioned with Rigid Posture, Judgment creates a baseline bodily tension corresponding to a need for physical and cognitive control. With Shoulder Shrugs, the upper body tenses even further, before relaxing, showing a temporary and acute presence of Judgment, and positional defensiveness.

As with Head Shakes, this signal implies a cognitive negation. While Head Shakes may have their vestigial origins in the instinct of infants to avoid food, the raising of the shoulders up can be thought of as a means to physically protect oneself from threats; an instinct which is now extended even to conceptual threats or ideas. Thus, it similarly reveals a cognition that is actively showing disapproval of something, judging a given idea as being opposite to their convictions and positions.
