]]>Beginning Monday, April 13th, BTSD will host weekly wrestling and strength training sessions at U of D Jesuit. Practices will take place Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4:00–7:00 PM, creating a consistent, high-level training environment for athletes of all ages and experience levels.
This initiative represents years of collaboration and planning and reflects BTSD’s commitment to developing not just strong athletes, but strong students, leaders, and future professionals.
What This Means for Detroit Youth
On the Mat:
- Accessible offseason training without the need for extensive travel
- Structured, high-level practices focused on technique, strength, and conditioning
- A growing, citywide wrestling community
- Exposure to collegiate and Olympic-level wrestlers and coaches
- Year-round development to stay competition-ready
Off the Mat:
- Academic support and mentorship to reinforce success in the classroom
- Life skills training centered on discipline, accountability, and leadership

About the Event
On Thursday, September 25th, 2025, at Wayne Memorial High School, Beat the Streets Detroit (BTSD) and the Championship Wrestling Association (CWA) will host CWA Showcase 6, a one-of-a-kind wrestling event that blends community, competition, and opportunity. The CWA features some of the best senior level folkstyle wrestlers competing at a professional level.
This showcase is more than just wrestling. It is a statement. Our athletes, coaches, and community partners have been building something powerful in Detroit — and we’re doing so at a time when forces beyond our city would prefer to see us broken down. They’ve tried to stop us before. They’ve tried to take pieces of what we’re building. But we are still here, still standing, and still fighting for Detroit’s youth.
We are asking the media to stand with us and shine a light on this movement. Covering this event means covering a story that goes beyond the mat — a story of resilience, of Detroit grit, and of young people rising above the challenges stacked against them.
The event will also feature a Grappler Prep Mini Clinic before the showcase, giving young athletes direct access to training and mentorship while raising funds to support travel, training, and competition opportunities for Detroit youth. Detroit wrestling has always been about more than medals and matches — it’s about creating pathways, keeping kids on track, and proving that no matter the obstacles, we cannot be silenced.

]]>Dear Coaches, Athletes, and Parents
This fall, our athletes can take part in some of the most competitive and meaningful wrestling events in the country — including the CWA Showcase, Grappler Fall Classic, CLAW Season 1, Super 32, and the MatTown Classic. These experiences not only test our skills on the mat but also help shape our wrestlers into stronger leaders, teammates, and individuals.
While these opportunities are exciting, they do come with expenses for travel, lodging, and entry. We are actively fundraising to help support these trips, but it’s important to remember that these events are not free. Each athlete and family play a role in making these experiences possible, whether through fundraising participation, contributions, or other support.
Just as important as fundraising is communication with coaches. If an athlete plans to attend, has scheduling concerns, or needs clarity on expectations, please contact the coaching staff directly. Staying proactive with communication allows us to be organized and ensures that no opportunities are missed.
We are proud of the direction our program is heading, and we are committed to creating opportunities that prepare our athletes for success both on and off the mat. Thank you for being a part of this journey and for investing in the future of our wrestlers.
