He is the Apocalypse

When you talk about X-Men villains, there are few that have the level of menace that Apocalypse does. Even after years of being nerfed, he’s pretty easily still one of the super-team’s arch-enemies. He’s also about due for a comeback, which looks like it might be just about to take place.

That would be in the pages of Tomb of Apocalypse, an upcoming mini-series from Marvel. Set to debut this August, the title will hail from the creative team of writer Ashley Allen and artist Domenico Carbone. Together the two talents will be crafting a story that sees an “unknown” device crash land outside of Haven House, the X-Men’s current home.

“For Earth’s mutants, it has taken time to regroup and process the fall of Krakoa,” explains Allen. “But unfortunately for our heroes, Apocalypse values action. And he’s never been one to miss out on an opportunity.”

When Jubilee stumbles across it, it isn’t long before she’s whisked across the globe. And if it involves her, you know Wolverine isn’t far behind. The two heroes won’t be alone though, as they’re joined by classic X-Force members Richter and Shatterstar, for an adventure that’ll take them into a deathtrap known as… the Tomb of Apocalypse.

Before Wolverine, there was Weapon X

Any Wolverine fan knows the ins and outs of the mutant hero’s past by now. Maybe the biggest and most impactful of Marvel’s explorations of his past though, was Weapon X. Mentioned in Wolverine’s very first appearance, Weapon X got a full detailing in the pages of Marvel Comics Presents (remember that?).

If you need a refresher, that happened back in 1991, telling the story of Wolverine first got his indestructible skeleton and claws. Impressively too, comics phenom Barry Windsor-Smith crafted said tale all by himself. Windsor-Smith not only drew it, but he wrote and colored the (at the time) definitive look at Logan before he became Wolverine.

In the decades since, that version of the character has appeared in movies and animation, and has gotten a whole bunch of action figure adaptations. Now it’s high-end toy-maker Hot Toys turn, with a full 12″ collectible figure. Retailer Sideshow took the wraps off of that very item late last week, and it’s looking pretty slick.

In a great twist, the figure will feature a metal skeleton (sounds familiar…) with silicon skin over it. That means limited joints, which is kind of important for a figure that’s not really wearing much. Though, we should also mention that that doesn’t mean he won’t come loaded.

Aside from his shorts, Weapon X will also include the full slate of gear that you’d expect. And yes, that’s including his iconic training helmet.

What he does isn’t very nice

Releasing some time in mid-2027, the Weapon X Sixth Scale Figure by Hot Toys is priced in at $270 USD. Pre-orders are open right now via the aforementioned Sideshow, as well as additional online retailers. Take a scroll down the page to see the official detailing.

A 90s Cosmic Invasion

Yes, the 90s Marvel U is back, and that’s thanks to the upcoming Marvel Cosmic Invasion. The newest beat ’em up from Dotemu and developer Tribute Games, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is scheduled to hit consoles and the PC next month. But before it hits, we’ve got a deep dive into its gameplay (and more) of you to check out.

In the nearly eight minute video, the team at Tribute walks prospective players through the ins and outs of what they’ll find in the title’s campaign. This includes creating your team of two, and balancing powers out or even recreating classic team-ups from the classic comics.

There’s also a decent deal of talk about how the authenticity of the 90s Marvel Universe was taken into account. That era is something that Tribute Games wanted to focus on, and for the most part, it definitely looks like the studios has nailed it. The only thing we take exception to, is the presence of Cosmic Ghost Rider (and maybe Rocket Raccoon), since the future version of the spirit of vengeance didn’t even exist back then.

Nevertheless, the game is looking terrific otherwise. If you’ve been eagerly awaiting its arrival, we definitely recommend hitting play below.

Wolverine returns

Fans of Deadpool and Wolverine, or just Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of the Marvel superhero, might want to take note of Hot Toys’ upcoming release. While the toy-maker has produced a number of Wolvies over the years, the latest is pretty darn cool. That’s to say, if you like the movie version of him.

The company’s upcoming take on that big screen rendition of the character is expected to ship out this very month. And as with most Hot Toys offerings, he’s packed with what looks to be a great sculpt and appropriate accessories.

We should probably say edition’s’ in the above though, since there’ll actually be two. The figure will be getting both Collector’s and Deluxe Editions, and they’ll vary a bit as to what’s included. To give fans a look at that and more, retailer Sideshow has prepared another one of its unboxings.

The best there is at what he does

Based on Hugh Jackman’s appearance as Wolverine in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, the Wolverine (Deluxe Version) 1/6 Scale Collectible Figure by Hot Toys is highly poseable with 30 points of articulation and silicone-coated arms for a seamless look. This detailed piece features a new, hand-painted headsculpt with a masked head and 3 interchangeable lower face pieces. Wolverine wears an expertly crafted, weathered version of his blue and yellow costume with body armor. He comes with multiple swap-out hands and attachable bladed claws, allowing for a range of display options. Snikt!

From Plus to Pulse

We might be stretching it with that subheading, but we’re thinking it kind of fits today’s news. After all, Disney+ is kind of the home for both Marvel and Star Wars, and upcoming products from both iconic brands have just landed on Hasbro Pulse, the toy-giant’s online shop.

On the Marvel side, the X-Men ’97 TV show pretty easily features, with a pair of action figure two-packs. Not that comics fans are left with nothing though, as a former build-a-figure gets a mass release. Oh, and did we mention that the awesome Wolverine helmet from Deadpool and Wolverine has posted as well? As for Star Wars, there’s plenty there too. Fans can find a pair of Black Series figures from Revenge of the Sith, along a helmet hailing from Andor.

Marvel Legends

As mentioned, there are a bunch of fresh action figure pre-orders up right now on Hasbro Pulse. The X-Men do indeed take the spotlight too, with a double dose of X-Men ’97 action and a movie arrival. The first is a set that showcases both Rogue and Gambit in their athletic wear. Yup, it’s the (first?) basketball pack. Along those same lines is another two-pack that features Wolverine and Storm. Both heroes reflect their late-season 1 looks from X-Men ’97.

Breaking away from television though, is another double shot of pre-orders with Strong Guy and Deadpool. The former brings X-Factor’s Guido back around in what looks like a slightly revised form, and with a massive barbell accessory. Kinda neat, that. As for the Merc with a Mouth, this latest version of Deadpool is actually the third release in Marvel Legends‘ premium Maximum Series. As such, he looks to be packed with accessories, and even includes Doop.

But there is more for Marvel! Hasbro Pulse also unveiled a powerful lineup of new figures. The Marvel Legends Series Wolverine and Storm 2-Pack, inspired by X-Men ’97, brings two fan-favourites together with premium animation-style deco and nine character-inspired accessories. Marvel Legends Maximum Series Deadpool breaks into collections with over 30 points of articulation, 24 accessories (including Doop), and a display-worthy design that captures the Merc with a Mouth’s chaotic energy. Rounding out the wave, the Marvel Legends Series X-Factor Strong Guy captures Guido Carosella’s larger-than-life strength with premium design, seven accessories, and full articulation for posing.  And last but not least, the Marvel Legends Series Gambit and Rogue 2-Pack also joins the lineup, inspired by X-Men ’97’s unforgettable basketball scene and featuring premium animation-style deco, five accessories, and series-accurate details that bring the couple’s dynamic to life.

And last but not least, is that awesome looking Wolverine mask/helmet from Deadpool and Wolverine. Looking pretty darn close to the one worn by actor Hugh Jackman, Hasbro’s mass-market Wolvie mask looks to be nicely detailed, and comes complete with a stand. Oh yeah, and you can wear it too. It even touts interior padding.

First up, fans of the Marvel universe will be delighted to delve into a 1:1 scale reproduction with the Marvel Legends Series Wolverine Premium Roleplay Mask, inspired by the recent Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine movie. From the Galaxy far, far away

What’s a pre-order update without a few Star Wars releases? Well, we wouldn’t know, because Hasbro once again doesn’t look to disappoint, this time with a trio of new pre-orders that spin out of the brand’s Black Series. Two of those are figures, and then there’s what looks like it might be one of the coolest helms that we’ve seen yet from the company.

The figures though, are flat-out iconic, and bring both Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi back to 6″ life one more time. While we’ve seen these characters before in the Black Series, this time they’re reflecting their looks from Revenge of the Sith.

Meanwhile, the final movie in the prequel trilogy Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is revisited with two essential additions to the Black Series line: Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Both figures feature film-inspired sculpting, photoreal deco, premium articulation, and their signature blue lightsabers. Fans can recreate the climactic duel on Mustafar or display the pair as the ultimate representation of friendship turned rivalry.

As for that helmet, yep, it’s the Shoretrooper. Pulled from the Star Wars series Andor, this new offering certainly looks the part, and even includes a “voice-changing” feature.

Trilogy of possibilities

It’s a whole new world in X-Men Elsewhen, a massive X-Men story arc created by the legendary writer/artist John Byrne. Okay, we know what you might be thinking, and if that title doesn’t sound familiar to you, you’ll be happy to know that there is a reason. Namely, that’s that its history is a little off-center and a lot nonexistent.

Basically, the iconic Byrne, who is one of the biggest creative forces in X-Men history, alongside Chris Claremont and Terry Austin, forged his own series of comics that never saw publication. These issues, and there are quite a few, spun out of the ending of the Dark Phoenix Saga, but with a big ‘what if’ style idea in place. And apparently, it’s one that was originally a possible in-canon ending.

The long and the short of it, is that Byrne wondered what might have happened, if instead of sacrificing herself at the pinnacle of the tale, Jean Grey survived. Any X-fan can probably guess that the alteration would have made for some radically different stories, and presenting those is the point of X-Men: Elsewhen.

When the story opens, the team has returned to Earth (after the Dark Phoenix arc). And when they land, they’ll face down a trip to the Savage Land “and beyond”, plus altered encounters with “the Sentinels, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Spider-Man, and many other familiar faces.”

Epic format, for an epic tale

Fans can look for X-Men: Elsewhen to ship to stores as a series of three hardcover graphic novels. Notable too, is that the book will see publication under the banner of Abrams ComicArts’ Marvel Arts line.

While that might seem new and different, it also isn’t a first. Marvel Arts is already rolling with titles like “Alex Ross’s Fantastic Four: Full Circle; The Super Hero’s Journey by Patrick McDonnell; and The Avengers: Veracity Trip by Chip Kidd and Michael Cho”. All the same though, X-Men: Elsewhen certainly looks like the biggest and most ambitious release in the line to date.

Volume 1 will launch in April of 2026, followed by the second installment in the fall. After that, spring of 2027 will bring the trilogy to its close with X-Men: Elsewhen Volume 3. The hardcover books will be presented in 7.5 x 11″ format, with dust jackets included. Expect each one to include 200 pages of story and artwork, “with a number of additional features”, according to the publisher.

Frank Miller too

Yeah, it’s kind of hard to believe, but the legendary Frank Miller has provided a variant cover for Deadpool/Batman. Marvel Comics’ end of the upcoming dual-company crossover will have quite a few alt-covers, and Miller’s showcases Batman and Wolverine.

That cover, and a pair of others, have emerged thanks to Marvel’s Retailer’s Panel at SDCC. The rest show off a hard-hitting crossover between The Thing and Big Barda, and a Deadpool-flavored take on Infinity Gauntlet. There’s a scary thought.

Marvel’s Deadpool/Batman #1 arrives in stores on September 17th, while DC’s Batman/Deadpool #1 hits in November. So far, we haven’t seen much post-announce press for the latter title, so stay tuned. We imagine there’ll be plenty of it, as we get a little closer to release.

ust now at the Retailer Panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Comics unveiled new variant covers by Russell Dauterman, Daniel Warren Johnson and Frank Miller for DEADPOOL/BATMAN #1, the Marvel/DC crossover one-shot hitting stands on September 17 that will be followed by BATMAN/DEADPOOL #1, a one-shot published by DC in November. Both comics will feature explosive main stories that pit Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth against DC’s Caped Crusader along with backup stories starring additional Marvel/DC team-ups and showdowns. 

Superstar Russell Dauterman newly revealed variant cover, an homage to George Pérez’s Infinity Gauntlet #1, spotlights many of these tales including one also announced at the panel that features Rocket Raccoon and Green Lantern, written by mastermind cosmic storyteller Al Ewing and drawn by acclaimed artist Dike Ruan.

“The pairing of Rocket Raccoon and Green Lantern felt very random when I was assigned it, but you can chart a line between any two characters that’ll take you through a kaleidoscope of connections between one universe and the other – and that’s what we’ve done,” shared Ewing.

Other DEADPOOL/BATMAN #1 variant covers showcased at today’s Retailer Panel come from acclaimed artist Daniel Warren Johnson and industry legend Frank Miller. In addition to his cover, Miller will be writing and drawing a backup story starring Wolverine from the dystopian Old Man Logan story arc and the future version of Batman from Miller’s comic book masterpiece, The Dark Knight Returns. Daniel Warren Johnson’s cover highlights a showdown between two iconic Jack Kirby creations, the Thing and Big Barda.

Well that’s new for Logan

The book will officially be Wolverine #8, but long time fans of the Canadian mutant know better. So does Marvel Comics actually, because this particular eighth issue is being touted with its Legacy numbering, as the milestone #400.

There’s no debating that Wolverine, and we’re talking about the original Wolverine, has been an icon for the publisher. Debuting way back in 1974 in the pages of The Incredible Hulk #181, Wolverine would go on to become an X-Man in Giant Sized X-Men #1, before partly taking over the comics world with his rampant popularity in the 90s. Now that very same hero has made it all the way to the historic four hundredth issue of his titled comic, and he’s still looking to be the best there is at what he does.

Wolverine #8 (Legacy #400) will include what sounds like a one-shot tale from Daniel Warren Johnson, as a back-up story for Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo’s main tale. And while we don’t know much about either just yet, we know Johnson’s back-up will be about revenge, during Logan’s time in Japan.

And that main narrative? That’ll include the introduction of a new arch-foe for Logan, named Adamantine. You can probably use your imagination on that one.

In WOLVERINE #8 (LEGACY #400), Ahmed and Cóccolo bring Wolverine face-to-face with his mythic new archenemy Adamantine for the first time and reveal a shocking return from Logan’s past. Then, Johnson gets a chance to depict Logan doing what he does best in a brutal tale of revenge set during the character’s time living in Japan. 

“What’s better than Wolverine with claws? Wolverine with a katana,” Johnson teased of his backup story.

The best there is

If you’re a collector, you’ve gotta be impressed with what HONŌ Studio is doing. While we haven’t seen an actual release yet, the action figure company has been revealing a series of pretty fantastic looking pre-orders.

Those include 12″ scale figures that specifically carry the Marvel Comics looks of some of the best-known heroes and villains of all time. And while HONŌ has already announced two versions of Wolverine, there’s another that’s just been revealed.

As you can see here, it’s fairly unique, sporting a maskless head, a look that’s been a pretty standard one for the feral X-Man for ages. The sculpt is looking great too, and even comes with a non-usable mask that hangs from the back of his neck.
