Apple Intelligence and Siri AI

I would like some help understanding Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. My phone is the iPhone SE3 (2022) and I understand it doesn't support Apple Intelligence, right? So will I just get the old Siri on that phone?

I was looking on the Apple website and it seems more phones support Apple Intelligence than those having 12GB of RAM. So what is this thing about needing 12GB of RAM? More importantly, are these things actually in iOS 27 now or are they coming later?

If I upgraded my phone to one of the new models, what Apple Intelligence features would I get now and which ones would I be waiting (indefinitely) for?

Hello everyone,

I'm an independent developer. For the past year I've been building an app called EbookVoice. It takes a book you already own, as an EPUB, a Word document or a DAISY zip, and turns it into a narrated audiobook you can listen to like any other. I'm looking for VoiceOver users who would be willing to test it properly and tell me where it falls short.

I want to be straightforward about where things stand. The app is already on the App Store, and the core of it, playing a book with background audio and full lock screen, Bluetooth and CarPlay controls, is free and will stay free. There are paid tiers for people converting a great deal of material, but listening itself is not behind them. I'm not posting here to sell anyone anything. I need people who actually depend on VoiceOver to use it and tell me what is wrong with it, because there is a hard limit to what I can find on my own.

Some specifics, so you can judge whether it is worth your time:

It converts EPUB, Word .docx, and DAISY zip files. DAISY is supported specifically because a great many BookShare titles are not EPUB.
There are 27 languages and over 200 voices. For text that switches language mid-sentence, the multilingual voices handle the switch rather than reading the second language phonetically in the wrong accent.
There is a follow-along mode that highlights text as it is spoken. I changed how that text is exposed to the accessibility tree so a braille display receives a whole paragraph as a single element rather than one word at a time, which previously made continuous reading on a display close to impossible.
There is a built-in catalogue of public domain books, so you can start listening straight away without having to find a file first.
Conversion runs on the server, so you are not waiting on your own device to finish a long book.

Much of what is in the app came from a blind tester who has been using it since the spring and told me plainly what was wrong. That is the kind of feedback I am asking for more of.

What I would most like tested in the next build:

The path from choosing a book to starting the conversion. I know from my own data that this is where people are getting lost, and I need to hear what it actually sounds like on the way through.
VoiceOver across the whole app. Anything read in the wrong order, unlabelled, or not read at all, however small.
Follow-along on a braille display, if you use one.
Long books. Very long titles are the weakest part of the system and I would rather hear it from a tester than discover it later.

Facebook Issues

For those using VoiceOver and having issues with Facebook losing focus and jumping to the top of the page; not being able to flick backward to a previous line or post without losing focus; having to flick through what seems to be endless buttons of like, share & comment and any other crazy issues, please report this to Facebook. I did so through the following steps on Facebook. For reference, I am using an iPhone 17E running iOS 26.6.2.

Introducing Folio: A Flexible, Accessible Way to Organize Everyday Life

I’m the developer of Folio, an iPhone and iPad app that helps you organize many different parts of everyday life in one place. I’ve been working on Folio for a long time, and it is now available on the App Store.

Folio is more than a basic to-do list. It lets you create notebooks that match the way you actually organize your life. Each notebook can have its own fields, categories, statuses, sorting order, reminders, and repeat rules.

You can use Folio for many different purposes, including:

- Packing and travel lists, with statuses such as “To Pack” and “Packed”
- Shopping lists, organized into categories such as Food, Cleaning, and Personal Care
- To-do lists with dates, times, priorities, and overdue items
- Attendance lists for meetings, classes, and courses
- Payment and bill tracking, with due dates and reminders
- Order tracking, with stages such as “Order Placed,” “In Transit,” and “Delivered”
- Birthdays, books to read, movies to watch, habits, household tasks, applications, projects, plant care, pet care, and much more

Folio includes more than 30 ready-made templates, but you can also create your own notebook from the beginning. You can define your own fields and statuses—for example, “To Contact,” “Contacted,” and “Waiting for a Response”—and save your setup as a reusable template.

You can view everything in a notebook in one list, filter items by status, search within a notebook, sort items by date or alphabetically, arrange them manually, and update several items at once.

Folio also supports flexible reminders. You can repeat a reminder daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, on selected days of the week, or a certain number of days after an item is completed.

No account or membership is required. Folio uses iCloud to synchronize your notebooks between your iPhone and iPad. Your data is not sent to another server. Lists can also be shared as plain text or CSV files.

One of my main goals is to make Folio useful for people with different languages, cultures, countries, and daily routines. The way people organize shopping, travel, household responsibilities, payments, school, work, and family life can be very different around the world.

That is why I would especially appreciate feedback from people with different cultural and language backgrounds. Which templates would be useful in your country? Are there everyday situations or culturally specific workflows that Folio should support? Would different terminology, date formats, categories, or reminder options make the app more useful to you?

I would also love to hear from VoiceOver users. Please let me know how easy Folio is to navigate and use, and whether any labels, focus order, filtering, editing, reminders, or other parts of the app could be improved.

iPhone 17 Pro case recommendations?

Hi all.

I'm getting an iPhone 17 Pro. I was thinking about getting one of the newish Apple tech woven cases, but of course, reviews are all over the place, people saying it's not protective but they haven't actually used/tested it, somebody saying it's "not a protective case" multiple times but admitting it survived a drop on to concrete just fine, somebody saying they've used theirs for a year and dropped it on concrete and so on and it's great.

On my XR I have a fairly chunky Otterbox case of some sort, rubber back, rubber all along the sides, lip that sticks up fairly high over the screen. I'm thinking something lighter might be nice, also I don't really like the high lip for landscape work, e.g. in Garage Band you basically have to drag right against it to use the controls at the top.

I try to be pretty careful with my phones, I've maybe dropped mine a few times on our wooden floor. But of course, it's the accidents that are the problem, everybody tries to be careful. I'd like something that's reasonably protective, and has some grip.

if I'm sitting I'll often put the phone on my leg. I don't need something that will slide off depending on what pants I'm wearing. Not that I just leave it sitting there unattended, but I'd like to be able to take my hand away without worrying about it sliding to the floor. I also don't want something super slippy to hold in my hand.

The woven case sounds like it might fit the bill, but like I said, the reviews are all over the place. I'm planning on trying to get to touch one, but i figured I'd see what recommendations people have that they like for cases. To be clear, I'm not settled on a lighter case, I don't really care about weight that much, I just know the woven ones are lighter, so I thought if they work, it might be an interesting new thing to try. I'm way more interested in protecting the $1300 piece of electronics I just bought, you know?

Now that I'm actually trying to use my phone more like a phone, I'm getting verification codes in text messages. So far I'm just popping open Messages, memorizing the code quick, and going and typing it in, e.g. to a website/app. Is there an easier way to do this? A simple trick to be able to paste maybe? In case it matters I'm using 1Password, I think I have that as the default for auto-filling stuff.

How can I mute a part of an audio component to silence my microphone?

Hi everyone. I’ve been using AirPods Pro two since the end of 2023. I’m buying a new iPhone 18 pro and I just looked it up, the 17 pro and the 18 pro use the same Bluetooth 6.0 standard.
Question, since I’m upgrading from an iPhone using 5.3 to 6.0, i’d like to take this opportunity to get rid of the audio lag. Can someone recommend a pair of headphones, in or outside the Apple ecosystem, that would cut down on the lag I’m currently experiencing? It’s gotten better over the years but it really isn’t great. I really miss the way it was so seamless on wired headphones but I love the flexibility of being able to use wireless headphones
