Comment on How Am I Using Community Psychology? A Reflection on 6 Months on the Job by Megan Lewis https://blogs.uml.edu/csp/2011/08/23/how_am_i_using_community_psychology_a_reflection_on_6_months_on_the_job/#comment-51 Sat, 27 Aug 2011 00:59:28 +0000 http://blogs.uml.edu/csp/2011/08/23/how_am_i_using_community_psychology_a_reflection_on_6_months_on_the_job/#comment-51 Hey Danielle,
I really enjoyed reading your post. I can relate to the question of “what exactly is community social psychology?” that people are always asking me. Usually, they are looking for a quick answer when I’m ready to whip out a piece of paper and draw and explain Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model. (Although it keeps away creepers at bars.)
I’m happy that you are finding happiness and satisfaction in your job! I’ll be in the position of looking for a job in a year (gulp) and I appreciate your thoughts.
Megan

You make a really great point. This isn’t necessarily a proximity issue or a post graduation issue… this can be felt by someone who is still *in* the program, living off campus/commuting, going part time or just not sure where they’ll end up. I think it’s really important to keep talking to fellow CSP classmates and professors to keep your head in it, and to not lose touch of what you’ve accomplished and learned!

I find being in the Community Social Psychology program and not living in Lowell that I get a similar feeling as you in which people and professions do not understand what Community Psychology is. I appreciate the very valid point you are passing along, to bring CSP with you, to your life and your career. Wherever these places may be, CSP will be within us.

Even after years of learning about and using community psychology, I still have to stop and reflect on this very issue. It becomes so integrated in my thinking and my doing that it’s hard to put into words. Thanks for starting this conversation.
