Thoughtfully designed to enhance the student experience, each space features soaring ceilings, abundant natural light and exposed wood beams that create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The building’s exterior complements the existing campus architecture, helping the new addition seamlessly integrate into the environment.

In addition to the indoor learning environments, a new courtyard provides opportunities for outdoor instruction, collaboration and student engagement. Thoughtful details throughout the project support students’ daily routines, including backpack hooks conveniently located outside each classroom to encourage organization and maximize usable learning space within the classrooms.

Framework at the main building has been assembled and is beginning to take shape as the primary entry to the facility. At the back of the site, a retaining wall has also been constructed to support the hillside behind the generator enclosure and site parking.

Once complete, the new clinic will comprise of a two-story medical office building designed to provide a wide range of healthcare services for the Greenville Rancheria community. The facility will include medical exam rooms, treatment rooms and a dental clinic with exam rooms. A dedicated behavioral health and counseling center will provide additional services, while a pharmacy, laboratories and administrative spaces for billing and medical records will support the clinic’s operations.

As construction continues, the project is taking important steps toward creating a modern, comprehensive healthcare facility for the Greenville Rancheria community. We look forward to sharing additional progress as the project moves forward.

This project will reimagine Shasta Lake School’s campus entry, creating a welcoming and highly functional front-of-campus experience while expanding essential academic and administrative spaces. The new two-story facility is designed to support students, staff and visitors and will include administrative offices, waiting areas, a nurse’s office, faculty workspaces, conference rooms and general classrooms. Throughout the building, spaces were carefully positioned to maximize daylight and create a welcoming learning environment.

Site improvements will provide new opportunities for outdoor learning and gathering. These enhancements will include an amphitheater, seating areas, raised planters with integrated seat walls and shade structures.

We are looking forward to seeing this project over the next year, with completion anticipated in 2027. Keep an eye out for future updates as construction progresses.

Through his past experience, he has enjoyed working on projects across California and gaining insight into how municipalities plan for development on both small and large scales.

STUDIO W & LANDMARK TEAM

Studio W was excited to celebrate the groundbreaking of the campus-wide modernization at Cordova Villa Elementary School in Folsom Cordova Unified School District alongside project partners, District faculty, students and members of the community. With construction underway, the groundbreaking ceremony brought the Cordova Villa Elementary School community together to commemorate the start of this new chapter for the campus. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the vision for the future while celebrating the people and partnerships helping make that vision possible.

This modernization is being made possible through the Measure R Bond. The Measure R bond is specific to a certain area of Rancho Cordova. Rather than mis-state something, probably best to omit the reference altogether. Remarks from Board members, District leaders and community representatives highlighted the importance of this investment, shared the vision for the future of the campus and reflected on the personal experiences and connections that inspire their commitment to the District and its students. The ceremony also included recognition from State and federal representatives, who presented certificates commemorating the groundbreaking.

This phased modernization will transform the campus with a focus on safety, security and sustainable design. At Cordova Villa Elementary School, a complete replacement of the administration and classroom building, along with expanded parking and drop-off areas, will transform the school’s street presence and provide a clear, secure entry point for students and visitors.

Additional improvements include the replacement of an existing classroom building, interior classroom modernizations and the introduction of a central courtyard with seating to encourage outdoor learning and social interaction. Campus enhancements will also include new shade structures, updated playground equipment and site improvements that together will create a vibrant, future-focused environment.

Designed to seamlessly connect with the existing church and parish center, the new multipurpose hall will serve as a welcoming hub for worship, fellowship and community gatherings. The versatile facility will include a multi-use floor that accommodates both seating and athletics, an indoor stage, a commercial-grade kitchen, flexible classrooms and ample storage space. Whether hosting worship services, performances, banquets or community events, the new hall will provide a flexible space that supports the growing needs of St. Clare Parish.

This milestone marks another exciting step forward for Kairos Public Schools as it continues to expand opportunities for its growing community of scholars. This milestone builds on the success of earlier phases of the Kairos Public Schools Master Plan:

• Summer 2023—The Kairos Innovative Scholars Pathway (KISP) Building was completed, marking the beginning of the new campus; the facility houses the charter school’s independent study program, administration offices and multipurpose facilities designed to support student learning and campus operations
• September 2024—Kairos Public Schools celebrated the addition of interim classroom buildings at the Vacaville campus, providing expanded learning spaces while paving the way for the future Luminary Academy High School and continued campus development
• May 2025—A groundbreaking ceremony marked the launch of construction for the Luminary Academy High School expansion at the Vacaville campus. Ty Yurkovic joined school faculty, the Vacaville community and project partners to celebrate this exciting milestone and the future of the campus

The latest phase of the expansion introduces two new classroom buildings that provide modern, flexible spaces for Luminary Academy High School students. Located adjacent to the existing KISP Building, the new permanent classroom wing was designed to foster collaboration and learning both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor learning and gathering areas, along with a striking canopy structure connecting the two buildings, create a covered open-air space that encourages flexible instruction and student interaction.

Inside, the new wing includes five general education classrooms, two science laboratories, a prep room and a dedicated study space. Administrative and student support areas are seamlessly integrated into the building, along with essential support spaces, such as restrooms and a janitorial room.

The campus continues to take shape as part of the Kairos Public Schools Master Plan. The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF)-regulation football and soccer fields, accompanied by a walking track, are now complete, further expanding athletic opportunities for Luminary Academy High School students. Studio W also contributed a new scoreboard to support the school’s growing athletics program. Looking ahead, future phases will include two additional classroom wings, a multipurpose building and an administration building. Together, these additions will create a more complete high school campus by expanding academic opportunities while introducing athletics, clubs and extracurricular programs that support well-rounded student development.

DISTRICT LEADERS & FACULTY GATHER FOR THE CEREMONIAL RIBBON CUTTING AT ELKHORN VILLAGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The long-awaited campus-wide modernization of Elkhorn Village Elementary School is officially complete! This momentous milestone was celebrated with an incredible ribbon cutting ceremony surrounded by Washington Unified School District leaders, project partners, local community leaders, students, faculty and families eager to experience the newly transformed campus. The celebration marked the culmination of years of collaboration, planning and hard work, creating an exciting start to the new school year.

The ceremony began with a welcome from Elkhorn Village Elementary School Principal Gutierrez, followed by remarks from Washington USD Board President Coffey and Board Vice-President Castro, XL Construction representatives Brian Arseneau and Nick Cardin, Studio W’s CEO Brian Whitmore and Washington USD Superintendent Hildreth. Each speaker shared their excitement for the revitalized campus and the positive impact these new learning environments will have on generations of students to come.

Originally built in the 1950s, Elkhorn Village Elementary School has been transformed into a 21st Century learning environment designed to support today’s educational needs while celebrating the school’s unique identity and community.

Beginning at the campus entry, the redesign introduced two protected, off-street drop-off areas that guide students to clear gated entrances featuring bilingual welcome signage. Two redesigned parking lots improve circulation and accessibility, while the updated administration building now creates a more welcoming presence. Within the expanded and fully modernized administration building, a new wellness center provides students and staff with a comfortable and supportive space to work and recharge.

Additional campus improvements include a dedicated area for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program featuring seven new classrooms surrounding a centralized play area with shade sails. This space is separately fenced from the main campus to provide a safe and engaging environment for younger learners. The modernization also introduced three new TimberQuest classroom buildings for grades 6–8, adding 17 new classrooms that utilize surrounding courtyards and newly created outdoor learning circles. These flexible outdoor spaces, enhanced with shade structures, provide opportunities for students to learn beyond the traditional classroom setting. The new library is also a TimberQuest building, creating a modern and inviting space for exploration and discovery.

The project included improvements throughout the campus, with updates to the multipurpose room, kitchen and remaining permanent classrooms, as well as resurfaced and restriped play areas. A key focus throughout the design was integrating school spirit into every corner of the campus through murals, wall graphics and architectural details that celebrate Elkhorn Village Elementary’s tiger pride and identity.

From recovery to renewal, Paradise Elementary School was destroyed in the 2018 Camp Fire. Late last year, reconstruction began adjacent to Paradise Junior High School, marking another significant milestone in Paradise Unified School District’s recovery.

Through the collaborative efforts of Studio W, Paradise Unified School District and Otto Construction, the new state-of-the-art campus is now complete. The site has been transformed into a vibrant learning environment, from the classroom buildings and new gymnasium to the interior finishes and extensive sitework. Watching the project take shape has been exciting, and we look forward to seeing students and staff fill these spaces.

The new campus features a central courtyard, an outdoor stage plaza and 32 classrooms, including general education classrooms, STEM learning spaces, a learning resource center, special education classrooms and dedicated TK/K early education spaces. Outdoor learning areas are woven throughout the campus, providing flexible environments that encourage collaboration and offer alternatives to traditional classroom instruction.

Designed with safety and accessibility in mind, the main entrance, student drop-off and parking areas provide a secure and efficient arrival experience. Additional amenities include soccer and baseball fields, hard courts and shaded playgrounds that create opportunities for recreation and outdoor learning.

A unique aspect of this project is the construction of the new administration and classroom building adjacent to the existing administration facility, affectionately known as the “spaceship.” Because the new building is being constructed in close proximity to the existing structure, helical piles have been installed to reinforce and stabilize the existing foundation. These piles help prevent settlement and maintain the integrity of the existing footings during construction.

Once complete, Cordova Villa Elementary School will feature a new administration and classroom building, an expanded parking and student drop-off area, replacement of an existing classroom and administration building, interior classroom modernizations and a new central courtyard designed to enhance the campus experience.
