One of my personal favorite places to do a fall family photo session is the forest preserve. With such a gorgeous fall color palette, full of warmth and rich golden tones, teamed with a truly stunning family, and awesome styling, layers and texture – the result is just breathtaking.

This family is blessed with the happiest toddler ever, who loved exploring the location’s natural beauty, and collecting fall leaves along the way. For me it was all about capturing those natural family moments, that showcase pure happiness and love!!

Why I don’t cancel for clouds | Photography Mentoring Session | Photography Workshop

I recently ran a natural light photography mentoring session and small group photography workshop just outside Philadelphia.

Hurricane Joaquin hit during this time. Needless to say, it was a little windy, cold, and dark the days of the photography workshop. But that’s what I know how to do – work the natural light!! Clients (as well as photographers that I teach) are always very surprised how I can create the images I do on a very dark day. This is why I don’t cancel for clouds!

Smith Family Photo Session in Chicago | Lake Zurich Family Photographer

This family photo session took place on a perfectly sunny September day in Chicago. Meet my best friend of 20 years and her family. Blessed with four gorgeous little kids, and two dogs – I don’t know how she does it? Supermom! Each time we get together for a family photo session, I can’t describe what a joy the children are. So full of laughter and giggles, energy and love, that shines through in every picture, and we had fun as always. We all know, a true friend is hard to find. So when you do find one, hang on tight!

September is one of the best months for a family photo session in Chicago. It’s typically the last of the hot weather, has an abundance of dreamy sunsets, and very few days have rain. Vintage Styled Wildflower Mini Sessions | Lake Zurich Child Photographer

I’ve had the idea for these vintage styled wildflower mini sessions over the winter and started collecting all kinds of vintage pieces. Welllll, I went a little bit overboard and created basically an entire collection beyond what one closet can hold. Ebay is my friend, along with Etsy, Kidizen, and of course, Zulily. Not sure if I should call them friends or enemies, they won’t stop wreaking havoc on my bank account:)

This season’s minis were so much fun though. Lots of memories captures for a lifetime:) Stay tuned for when they are announce next year, they sell out very quickly.

C Family Summer Session | Chicagoland Family Photographer

It’s pretty awesome when my photography leads me to connecting with friends from the past. Julie and I went to Jr. High together and when she contacted me for a session, she didn’t know it was me (darn name changes!). I met her for the first time at her home for a wardrobe consultation and was happy to find her and I share similar styles and it was very easy to make choices. I love having input on the wardrobe because like I say, it can really make or break the images so I consider part of my job as a photographer to have knowledge to what colors, fabrics & textures will be photogenic. This family has 3 children under four and I can tell you from experience what a chaotic time of life that is, but I’m so happy they made family photos a priority:)

Barrington High School Senior Session | Chicago Senior Photographer

I was so excited when this client inquired to have their Barrington High School Senior Pictures shot on the beautiful grounds of their home! I love shooting in new locations and finding the beauty in almost any spot. And even more importantly, how meaningful to be photographed at your childhood home at that pivotal time of your life when you are getting ready to move away to college. Oh, the tears that come with that thought. Can I keep my own kids in mason jars so they never grow up? Anyway, I went to their lovely home over the summer and helped them select the wardrobe from her closet (everything she’s wearing she already owned!) and we ROCKED it (if I don’t say so myself:).

I had the pleasure to meet this gorgeous young lady last fall near Palatine. I was honored she came from Kankakee for her session. It was one of my favorite sessions to date as the fall foliage was at it’s height and she had the perfect wardrobe to match! She is a very determined, smart, meticulous, strong, young lady and I am certain she is going to go on to do great things:)

Hello, it’s time again for my 11 on 11 personal post. It has not been an easy month to commit to taking a ton of personal images but this project did push me to follow through on a couple different inspirations I had, and I was so glad I did! I ended up with at least 10 images I love and then that pesky self-portrait:) I hope you enjoy viewing my month my month (last months submissions are here!)
