]]>More than 120 young missionaries from Spain, Mexico, the United States, and the Dominican Republic took part in the mission for the second consecutive year, sharing a Christian message through worship music, service, and fellowship with families living in the agricultural communities of the eastern region of the country.
Signature Hakuna songs such as Huracán, Sencillamente, Madre de Hakuna, and A ti te alabo were sung passionately by the musicians and a choir of more than 30 voices on stage, joined by the enthusiastic audience throughout the evening.
Coordinated by the Casa Pater Foundation and supported by Central Romana Corporation, the mission brought Hakuna’s young volunteers into the sugarcane communities of the eastern region, where they spent each day working with children and teenagers through prayer, fellowship, games, and music. Each day centered on the celebration of Holy Mass and Eucharistic Adoration, the pillars of the mission, offering moments of reflection, spiritual encounter, and a deeper strengthening of faith for both the missionaries and the communities that welcomed them.
The closing concert, held in the agricultural community of Cacata, marked the official conclusion of the mission, reaffirming its purpose of bringing the Gospel wherever people are. One of the evening’s most meaningful features was a chapel set up behind the stage, where the Blessed Sacrament remained exposed throughout the concert, allowing Eucharistic Adoration to continue as the music was performed.
Founded in Spain by Father José Pedro Manglano, Hakuna has become one of the fastest-growing Catholic youth movements in the Spanish-speaking world, integrating music, prayer, and community life into its evangelizing mission. In recent years, Hakuna Group Music has performed at venues such as Madrid’s WiZink Center and Mexico City’s Pepsi Center, while also bringing its music to prisons and underserved communities.

All procedures were completed successfully. Patients traveled from La Romana, Santo Domingo, Higüey, and El Seibo to receive care during the operative.
Among the patients treated was a young boy with burn scars on both arms, who received specialized surgical care as part of a comprehensive recovery plan that will continue in the coming weeks. Cases like this reflect the impact that these medical missions have on the quality of life for individuals who require access to highly specialized treatments.
The initiative brought together specialists and medical staff from Centro Médico Central Romana, who worked alongside Dr. Michael Murphy to perform procedures aimed at improving patients’ mobility and functionality. Dr. Isabel León, Head of Surgery at the hospital, oversaw the medical mission.
The team from the United States was composed of Dr. Michael Murphy, Dr. Lou Posey, Dr. Christine Williams, and their nursing staff; while the Centro Médico Central Romana team included Dr. Isabel León, Dr. Moreno, and Dr. Vladimir Cedeño as surgeons; Dr. Petra Rosso, Dr. Pedro King, Dr. Ana Sepúlveda, and Dr. Rosalba Quezada as anesthesiologists; along with Elizabeth Rijo, RN, Jenny Cedeño, RN, the nursing team, and additional paramedical staff.

]]>La Romana, Dominican Republic. After completing the most significant restoration process since its inauguration in 1971, Casa de Campo Resort & Villas celebrated the official reopening of its legendary golf course, Teeth of the Dog, with the presence of the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader Corona.
The intervention, which represented an investment of US$15 million, reaffirms the resort’s position as one of the most prestigious golf destinations in the world and a leader in the Caribbean.
The ceremony included a blessing by Reverend Father Jorge Dionel Hernández, pastor of the Santa Rosa de Lima Parish in La Romana, and brought together government officials such as Minister of Tourism David Collado and Minister of Industry and Commerce Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, along with top executives from Central Romana Corporation, led by its president José “Pepe” Fanjul Jr. and executive vice presidents Ramón Menéndez, Leo Matos García, and Eduardo Martínez-Lima. Special guests, members of the press, and figures from the international golf community were also in attendance.
During the event, Casa de Campo President Andrés Pichardo Rosenberg highlighted that the restoration aimed to preserve the integrity of one of the most iconic golf courses in the world.
“Today we celebrate the preservation of a legend. Restoring Teeth of the Dog was not simply an upgrade; it was a commitment to excellence and to the legacy of the legendary architect Pete Dye. This project ensures that future generations of golfers can experience the course as it was originally conceived,” said Pichardo Rosenberg.
For his part, Central Romana Corporation President José “Pepe” Fanjul Jr. emphasized the importance of this investment for the country’s tourism development.
“Teeth of the Dog is a benchmark in the global golf world and a source of pride for the Dominican Republic. At Central Romana, we remain committed to continuing to invest in projects that positively impact La Romana and the entire country. Our guests come not only to experience the beauty of Casa de Campo but also to connect with the warmth and spirit of its people—the Dominicans.”
Restoration with Historical Precision
After more than five decades exposed to the demanding marine environment of the Caribbean, the course required a comprehensive intervention to preserve its original design. The project was led by the renowned firm Jerry Pate Design, with the goal of faithfully reconstructing Pete Dye’s vision using modern techniques and high engineering standards.
The work included the complete renovation of greens, bunkers, tees, and fairways, the upgrading of drainage and irrigation systems, and the construction of new cart paths. The entire course was replanted with Dynasty Paspalum, a grass especially resistant to coastal environments.
One of the most important aspects was the protection of the famous “Heaven 7,” the seven spectacular holes overlooking the Caribbean Sea that have made Teeth of the Dog one of the most photographed golf courses in the world. Coastal engineering and shoreline rehabilitation solutions were implemented to ensure resilience against future climate conditions.
New Investments at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas
During the event, Pichardo Rosenberg also announced that the second phase of the Premier Suites project will begin in May 2026, including a new swimming pool and the expansion of the resort’s spa. The resort was recently reaffirmed with a Four-Star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, making it the only resort in the Dominican Republic with the distinction.
Both President Luis Abinader and Minister David Collado noted that investments of this scale strengthen the country’s luxury tourism offering and increase the Dominican Republic’s competitiveness on the international stage.
The ceremony concluded with the traditional ribbon-cutting to officially mark the reopening of the legendary golf course. Attendees also recalled that renowned architect Pete Dye symbolically rests at hole 8, a place filled with history within this iconic design.
Internationally recognized for its seven oceanfront holes, Teeth of the Dog consistently ranks among the best golf courses in the world in prestigious publications such as GOLF Magazine and Golf Digest.
