This Sunday, Pastor David will relate the biblical festival of Passover to the Power of the Blood of the Lamb of God—Jesus. Theologically we may know of the power, but the time has come to apply the blood to our lives!

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7

In the 1960’s a famous test was completed using children and marshmallows. Would a child forgo the pleasure of a single marshmallow for the delayed pleasure of two marshmallows?

The results of the study were very fascinating and uncovered the spiritual importance of The Will of a human. Biblically speaking, the free will of an individual is one of the greatest gifts the Lord has bestowed about His children. Although, many find free will or choice to be a difficult paradigm that may have assisted in the evil of the world, it is a beautiful and profound gift from the Lord.

This week, Pastor David will teach on the power of The Will and how it is to be used as a gift that we can give unto our Father in Heaven. It is the agent of response to the Resurrection.

“So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

This year, Palm Sunday and Purim coincide. These two celebrations speak of the position of the Bride to the Bridegroom. They are both stories of deliverance and redemption. When looking at both biblical stories in conjunction, we can see a reminder of our position for the days in which we are living. Stories of hope, deliverance, redemption and our role as the Body of Messiah. To rejoice in the realities of our salvation! “The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!”” John 12:12-14

An acorn, quite unpresuming. Yet, it has the potential to become an oak tree. From an oak tree to lumber; from lumber to a ship that sails the world. From a simple acorn, sturdy material to enclose a house that surrounds generations of families. Too often, we think of the immediate, and lose sight of those things which only time can complete. In a culture of the immediate, we forget the diligence and patience that enables an acorn to become the oak. The early followers of Messiah understood the principle of working towards a kingdom that is larger, more powerful than what any individual or generation could create. They understood the principle of the Legacy of Oaks. This week Pastor David will teach on the importance of living and operating through the paradigm of legacy. “Even to them I will give in My house. And within My walls a place and a name Better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name That shall not be cut off.” Isaiah 56:5

The Lord is doing an exciting work in our midst and we believe He will continue to pour out His Spirit in greater measures as we approach the spring. History has shown us the usual plans of the enemy. As the Lord begins to do a mighty work, the enemy attempts to bring division, offense, hypocrisy, and the lust of the world. The ministry leadership at BHA believes it is an ideal time to teach on the spirit of deceit and its various manifestations. This is meant to guard us against the fiery darts of the enemy, to pull us closer to the Lord, and to ride ourselves of any deceiving spirits which may try to manipulate or enslave your mind. This will be a three-week sermon series beginning with Pastor Dave and continuing with Pastors Josh and Jamie. “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons…” 1 Timothy 4:1

There is a river which flows out of Eden. It is the river which is mentioned by John in Revelation, which we will receive our sustenance. A river which flows out of paradise, a river which flows from the throne of the Lord. This week, Pastor David will teach on the importance of living not just from the river of the Lord, but living from within the river of the Lord. This will be an essential message for understanding the presence of the Lord and to steward His presence properly. “There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.” Psalms 45: 4-5

Feb 4th 2024: Eudaimonia: Human Flourishing

Eudaimonia: Human Flourishing – The Greeks wrestled with the idea, early Church Fathers connected the concept to Scripture, Thomas Jefferson used it as a framework for the Declaration of Independence, C.S. Lewis processed it in light of a modern world. Eudaimonia cannot be completely translated into English. But, the idea is closest to well-being or human flourishing. This is not simply financial; it is a deep sense of purpose of living the ideal good. This Sunday, Pastor David will relate this concept to scripture and how one can attain this only through living beyond the threshold, known as liminal space, only through Jesus. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” 1 John 1:2

This will be a pivotal teaching to position the church into a sound and mature ability to house the presence of the Lord. “And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.” 1 Kings 8:10-11

Others listen, but they hear only what aligns with their present mentality. Like unto Samuel, God is speaking forth from the Tabernacle. He is looking for a people made ready to respond.

This week Pastor David will begin a sermon series on Revival. The first step is for the Bride to recognize she is spending too much time playing in the ashes.

In addition, we have churches that empower women while others silence women. Each theological stance uses Scriptural interpretation to support their view. Therefore, within the Body of Christ, confusion reigns.

For the church to have kingdom impact, we must understand what both Biblical masculinity is and what Biblical femininity is. As we continue our series on “The Narrative” this week, our focus will be The Making of A Biblical Woman.

In the modern world, the Church’s mandate to clothe the naked and feed the poor receives pressure to conform to the standards of the world. Meaning, there is a pressure to alleviate pain, suffering, and inequality outside the bedrock of the message of the Gospel.

In all that we do, the Lord must be lifted up. The Gospel must be shown and taught in love.

This week, Pastor David will teach on the appropriate demonstration of Justice. To navigate this narrative, we need to reaffirm how Jesus and His Disciples chose to bring Justice firmly rooted in the Gospel.

“And Jesus answered and said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” Mark 12:17

Sunday February 6th – 2022: The Narrative: I – it, I – Thou

One of the most powerful narratives on earth right now is the commodification of beings. In short, looking to people as a means of transaction. How can they benefit me? What can they do for me?

This is antagonistic to the Gospel, to the community of Believers. At times, this form of thinking can even begin to manipulate the way we engage the LORD.

In the days we are living, and in the days ahead, we as Believers will have to restore the I-Thou relationship more than ever. You are not an object. God is not an object. We were designed for fellowship. Relationship with God AND relationship with each other. The Church will not be able to continue by being a country club, a self-help center nor a music venue. The Church will have to be the embodiment of the Spirt of Messiah on earth. The Church will be made manifest through the purposeful engagement with one another in our daily lives. Anything else is a commodity; anything else is an I-It relationship of objects.

“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.” Romans 13:8

Sunday January 23rd – 2022: The Narrative: Restoring Biblical Masculinity

In a world of changing narrative, restoring Biblical Masculinity is more important now than ever. Masculinity has become a “loaded” term in recent years. This is due to the portrayal of sinful “masculinity”: drunkenness, lust, and violence. Scriptures are clear on how to act and conduct one’s life for all people. This week Pastor David will specifically teach on the role of manhood in the Body of Believers.

One of the fundamental issues of modern manhood was eloquently stated by C.S. Lewis: “We make men without chests and expect from them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst.”

Biblical Masculinity is good, it is honorable, it is Godly. It needs to be restored for the family to function, for the Church to be effective, and for the Souls of Men to be transformed into the ideal male, Jesus.

“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”

Let us learn how God’s plan for the earth is good; His ways and structures for society are perfect. We cannot allow the Spirit of the World to corrupt the beautiful paradigms the Lord has for the Earth, the Family and for You. “They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.” 1 Timothy 4:3

Today, there is an attack on the Narrative. Today, more than ever, Believers need to place their mind in the Narrative of the Spirit, the Narrative of the Word. Since the beginning, the Devil has been trying to change the narrative in which you believe. In the 21st century, the forces of evil are trying to change the narrative in every avenue of life. Today, you need to dig in deep. You need to know, understand, believe, and LIVE out the Narrative of God. This Sunday, join BHA, as Pastor David delivers a timely word for the Church, for the family, for the individual. “Then his wife said to Job, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? [Curse God and die!” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. October 31, 1517 A.D. was the day German monk Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg, Electorate of Saxony, in the Holy Roman Empire.

This began the Protestant Reformation: A Protest against the Catholic Church.

At that time, Catholicism was the culture of Europe. To not comply was to go against the culture of the day. Luther Posted 95 grievances he had with the Catholic Church. He demanded reform, he reminded people salvation through grace. He spoke against the hierarchical leadership of institutions.

This Sunday is October 31. Do you comply with culture? Do you demand reform for yourself and your family?

This Sunday, Pastor David will be preaching “A Call for a New Reformation.”

Since Abraham, it has been close to 4,000 years. Since the Major Prophets, it has been 2,500 years. Since the Crucifixion, 2,000 years. Since the rebirth of Israel, it has been 73 years. The point: the Father is not in a rush. His time table is not ours.

Mankind is ever increasingly looking to quick fixes, immediate results. The Lord’s “delay” teaches mankind something: He is more concerned about the process of things than we may be.

It is time for us to glory and wonder in the beauty of the Lord’s process. Process is all around us; it reveals the majesty of the Creator. Stop worrying about the given outcome in your circumstance. Go outside, watch a tree grow, and see how the Lord reveal his plan through processes and not just the end result.

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:8-9

Hernán and Janeth Robalino are founding pastors of the “Path of Life” congregation in Quito Ecuador. In 2012, the Lord began to do “something new” in Hernán and Janeth, revealing His heart and will regarding the priestly calling of the Church (1Peter 2: 4-5) and unified prayer of the people of God as His means of government, according to His eternal purpose. This is how Hernán and Janeth started “Ecuador House of Prayer” (ECO) in October 2012 in Quito, Ecuador.

The Responsibility of Man

After the fall of man, God asks a fundamental question: “Where are you Adam?”

Adam or Mankind is to issue a response. The spiritual and holistic answer is not simply: “here I am.” It is “I am here, send me.” Humanity’s nature ordained by God is to bear RESPONSIBILITY. Many Believers stop at being saved; salvation is only the beginning. One must follow salvation with an attitude of “I bear responsibility.” The question remains: “Responsibility for what?”

If you can’t answer that question, it would be good to attend this Sunday’s service. If you can answer it, it would be good to see if it is answered fully and appropriately.

“For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.” Luke 12:48

Be Abnormal Especially During Abnormal Times

In today’s society and current events, people appear to gravitate to an emotion and character of
intensity. Emotions are high, people are confused, and it appears that so many people are echoing
the story of Chicken Little: “The Sky is Falling!”
These are historical and abnormal times. When the world is tense and the volume is high, we need
to be abnormal. Yes, we live with conviction. Yes, followers of Jesus stand on truth. But the fact is
the way we handle these unprecedented times will be a magnet to draw people to the Lord. Take on
the countenance of your inheritance.
Be at Peace; Be Love; Be Compassion. Be Abnormal.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not
your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

This week Pastor Dave follows up on the teaching of An Age of Transition with the response of Living with Audacity.

As the world transitions, we stand resolute; we stand believing audaciously!

An Age of Transition

Throughout history there have been seasons of transition. The Renaissance, the Enlightenment, the First and Second Industrial Revolutions are to name a few. These ages change the world and how one lives, and thinks in society.

The same has accord in the Spirit. The age of the Garden, slavery in Egypt, the Mosaic Code, the time of Exile, and of course, the coming of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. These ages bring a deep understanding and spiritual shift to those who welcome it.

I believe the world is in the midst of yet another transitional age. It is all around us: in the media, in culture, even in the Church at large.

The question remains: How does one thrive in the age of transition?

First step is to acknowledge the transition. The second steps will be discussed this Sunday. Don’t miss an important message for an important season: An Age of Transition.

Striving. Seeking favor. Proving. Legalism. Fatigue. Weariness.Trying to combat sin and failing. These are all attributes which are results stemming from one not knowing their identity in Messiah.

For years, I thought I understood what it meant to be a son or daughter of God. The unfortunate reality is many know the right language but not the correct expression of the relationship.

Understanding this memorial stone is “an absolute game changer.” Whether you are the prodigal son or the older brother, we all need to know more than the language of sons and daughters. We need to rid ourselves from an orphan mentality.

This week, let us unpack the rhetoric, and start fresh. We are Sons. We are daughters.

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”” Romans 8:1

Memorial Stones: The Sin of Mediocrity

Is mediocracy a sin…?

Like all things, it depends on the posture of the heart. The spiritual truth is the Lord has not called you to be mediocre nor does He want you to choose a mediocre life. This is a fundamental theme in the Bible. You are a special people; the head not the tail; more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus. A strange and peculiar people; sons and daughters; priests.

In the modern era, people both love and distain mediocracy. On one hand, culture teaches to not be mediocre in money, or in career pursuits. One can spend countless hours on Youtube finding meaning to one’s life, how to influence people, and make the most amount of money doing the least amount of work while living on a beach.

At the same time, culture largely teaches mediocracy in escapism, fulfilling the flesh. Not choosing values and virtues which have laid the bedrock of Western culture. Mediocracy in our culture is perplexing.

As the Bride of Messiah, we need to guard ourselves from the temptation to just get by, to blend in, to simply live comfortably. In fact, there may be no greater ploy of the Enemy than this in the modern world.

Don’t settle for mediocrity.

The Blood of Jesus has bought you. THERE IS NOTHING MEDIOCRE in this. You are destined to be everything but MEDIOCRE.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Memorial Stones: Church Begins in the Home

A fundamental stone which is being marginalized, attacked, and torn down in the modern era is the family, the home, and the relationships within. This is not an accident, but rather, a byproduct of busyness, deflection and apathy.

Some may wish to caste blame on culture, public education, or television. The fact of the matter is we must once again look to the Church at large and determine if sons and daughters have been diligently taking their role in the home seriously.

The Church begins in the home. This is more than family prayer time!

Let us prioritize our homes; make them sacred space in an ever increasingly defiled world.

“Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Timothy 5:8

Memorial Stones: Liberty

245 years ago America was born. Today, our nation celebrates its inception, and looks to its future. A nation—by the people, for the people and of the people is a magnificent blessing. But, as followers of Messiah, we must look deeper.

What is Liberty? How does one use it? These questions need to be interpreted through the Spirit.

Unfortunately, many have an image of liberty in their walk, but a deep transformation of liberty needs to be made manifest. Liberty, freedom are not just words. They are foundational aspects to the Christian walk.

Today, let us celebrate a nation that is founded on liberty. But more importantly, let us rejoice in the One who gave us liberty. Let us use the gift of liberty from sin to transform ourselves, and the atmospheres around us.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17

Memorial Stones: Authority

Pastor David continues our sermon series on Memorial Stones. This week: the Authority that is found as sons and daughters. Many have understood Authority as the place in the Spirit to lay hands on the sick, to see them healed, and other signs and miracles. Yes, this is absolutely true. But, we can not overlook the authority we have been given to say no to sin; no to the ways of the world. This week, let us remember that we are not destined to live a life of this world, but we have the authority in Messiah to say no to the flesh and yes to the new man found in Christ.

Now, more than ever, one needs to return to cornerstone truths. By looking at these memorial stones, we will be rooted in truth. How we perceive God will be how we perceive His nature and the world around us. In Genesis 1 we have a promise. The Lord made the heavens and the earth, He said it was GOOD. God and life is good.

“Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:9

A Collective Memory Found in a River

Civilizations have collective memories; they are better known as history. This Monday is Memorial Day. A day in which the nation is to stop, reflect, and remember those men and women who died serving their nation.

Reflecting on this, one cannot forget the collective memory of those in the Scriptures who have left a memory and a legacy. Let us pause and reflect this weekend. But, let us also take their memory and continue the legacy of those who are called to be sons and daughters of the Living God.

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12: 1-2

Pentecost: Descension Produces Ascension

This Sunday, Sons and Daughters gather to celebrate Pentecost. Recognizing and rejoicing in the coming of the Holy Spirit into the Believer.

The Lamb of God has come; the Lamb has died, and was resurrected. He went to the Father in order for the Spirit to be sent. What does this mean for the follower of Messiah? What does this mean for the one who has followed Jesus for years? It means “only a descension can produce an ascension.”

“Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.” Ephesians 4: 9-10

Abundance Revisited

What if the Western Church’s view of abundance is misguided? What if the disciples of Christ have not fully understood the appropriate view of biblical abundance?

This Sunday, Pastor David will teach on the need to “periodically revisit our understanding of abundance.”

No, abundance is not evil. Likewise, it is not an end sum game of increasing one’s bank account. Abundance is a spiritual principle. Out of overflowing one can impact the community. Let us revisit the Theology of Abundance. It is not bad, it is not good. It is neutral until one stewards the abundance as did King Solomon.

In the words of Queen Sheba on her visitation to King Solomon in Jerusalem:

“And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit in her.” 1 Kings 10:4-5

Hefted: To become accustomed and attached to an area of upland pasture.

Modern society is an atmosphere of transience and commodification. Mobile, not rooted. As Believers in Messiah we are to be rooted in the things of the Spirit. Yes, we may move. The Lord may have us transition into new settings and new missions. But, the reality is to be the same, we are to be hefted.

Hefted is an English shepherding term. It is a manner where by a sheep knows his place, his home. The home of his birth is an area of upland pasture known as a fell.

This Sunday, Pastor David will teach on the principle of being “spiritually hefted”. No matter what is happening; no matter where the Lord is bringing you; one needs to be accustomed and attached to a Spiritual Home, the Mountain of the Lord. Sheep know the Shepherds voice. Sheep know from where His voice resonates.

Let us be a people of continuity, roots, and a sense of belonging in an age that’s increasingly about mobility and self-invention.

Palm Sunday – Release the Rope of the Donkey

Hosanna in the Highest! This Sunday we rejoice in the coming of Jesus leading to His Death and Resurrection. To the world, a perplexing holiday. A day of holiness; a day rejoicing. A day to commemorate our God entering a city to become death, and to become the Resurrection.

In the Palm Sunday story, little is spoken of the little-known character of the Donkey. Yet, this donkey has a divine destiny. Before it is released into his destiny, it needs to be released from the ropes. The ropes that tie him down. Once free, he can bear the Lamb and bring Him to His divine place and destiny in a city.

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethpage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” Matthew 21: 1-3

Higher Ground: Winter is Past…

During certain seasons of life, some find it difficult to remain positive. Let’s be honest, things have been strange and difficult for most people during this last year. The remedy is simple: embrace the season, but know springtime is come.

In the Scriptures, the element of the springtime is a spiritual and physical symbol. The prophets declare a rebirth in spring; Song of Solomon symbolizes spring as the meeting of the bride and the bridegroom; the New Testament declares the Passover Lamb in the spring season.

A springtime is coming. It is this revelation which allows mankind to embrace a temporary winter. But, we as Believers, are able to live in a spiritual spring knowing that the Bridegroom is coming soon. His return is our Blessed Hope. During these difficult days, keep your eye on He who comes in the Spring.

“For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.” Song of Solomon 2:11-12

Redux: to be brought back; revived.

This Sunday Pastor David continues last week’s sermon on Higher Ground. The Lord is calling His bride into a place of transformation. In Scripture, transformations through experiencing the Father often occurs through a mountain experience. Through an ascent.

Yes, as Believers, we do ascend the hill of the Lord. But, through the coming of Jesus there is a revelation of the paradigm of holiness and transformation. Transformation now comes through the Son descending to earth.

To transform is to first recognize His descent to earth and the revelation for His pursuit.

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but us longsuffering towards us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

Higher Ground: To Be Marked

In Scripture, there are times the Lord makes a definitive call for an individual to go deeper, to ascend. It may be Isaiah receiving coal upon his lips or Moses being brought to the Mountain of the Lord. The goal is the same, to be marked.

Today, God is once again making a definitive call to individuals: “Will you ascend the hill of the Lord?”

Will you be marked in a generation?

“And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.” Exodus 33:21-23.

Wanderlust Series: The Temptation of Conservation

There is a temptation to conserve. To hold on to, to keep, to store. This is a natural inclination; a carnal inclination. To conserve is to live for the self. It is rooted in fear and ego. The True Gospel is a different story: we are made whole. Out of our spiritual wholeness, we lay our life down and bear the burdens of others.

Viktor Frankel, a holocaust survivor reflecteing on his experiences in Auschwitz states “The point is not what we expect from life but rather what life expects from us.”

Life, Jesus, expects. He expects His children to “live outside of the self.” To be His witness to others, bearing the burdens of others.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

Wanderlust Series: Prophesy to the Self

The most powerful impediment to the Gospel going forth in the world is the skeptic. A skeptic—not the lost, but rather those that are redeemed who have spoken lies to the self. We cannot wander to listen to the lies. Daily, we must renew our minds. We must prophesy to the Self.

What you believe about yourself will ultimately create the realm by which you live. In psychology, it is known as the self-fulfilling prophecy. What you believe will become your reality regarding your given situation and your life. This is not about “positive thinking.” This is about truly believing what Jesus says about you. We must believe not just through an intellectual manner, but through action.

Jesus says you are the Redeemed, the Righteousness of God, and His Children. He says you are His disciples; Disciples act, Disciples replicate the Teacher. Jesus says you are fisherman of men; Fisherman preach the Gospel, pray for the sick and see them healed. Fisherman bring in the unsaved into the Kingdom through the power of the Holy Spirit. Start prophesying the right words to the self, be who He says you are.

“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name, they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”” Mark 16:15-18

The Festival of Exposure

The Biblical Festival of Hanukkah is known as the Festival of Lights and as the Festival of Dedication. Many forget that Jesus Himself celebrated it and the feast day is documented in the Book of John.

Light exposes.

This year, I believe the Lord is using the experiences of the natural to expose. The Light is separating the Sheep from the Goats. Exposure is difficult, it is a place of vulnerability. But, we have options, we can drive ourselves deeper into the darkness or we can run towards the light. The Light of God begins a process. First, a recognition of a need to change. Second, if one is willing, one can feel the heat of the Light and allow the Light and Fire of God to mold us though His love. Transforming us from glory to glory. Ultimately, the choice to remain in darkness or to be molded by the light is up to the one that is being exposed.

Be exposed. It is liberating.

“Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon’s porch. Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.” John 10:22-30

What if…Jesus was never born?

Pastor David will define the importance of the Messiah’s birth by first evaluating what life would have been like if Jesus was never born. Where would you be if Jesus was never born? What would modern history look like? What would the world look like if the greatest man in heaven and on earth was never born? One of the most powerful notions to define the importance of a concept, a person, an idea, is to remove it. By removing it for a moment, we better understand the importance.

Praise to the Father that He chose to send His son. Praise God that this is the reality!

This week Pastor David teaches on the lessons from Abraham’s two brothers. Not much is said,
and not much is taught on Nahor and Haran. The reality is there are Divine lessons in their lives.
Today, much of the church looks less like Abraham and more like Abraham’s brothers: Nahor and
Haran. It is time for the Church to awaken and live out their mandate to be the sons and daughters
of Abraham, not Nahor and not Haran. Let us this Sunday worship and learn from the Word. Let
us choose this day which of the three brothers we shall model our life after.

Have you ever walked into a room only to discover that you are to be elsewhere? Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that as we journey through life, we walk through different seasons. This is true on an individual level and a corporate, national, and world level. What happens when we find ourselves in the wrong place at the wrong time? How do we make a move to the correct room so that we can have the impact that we were created by Almighty God to have?

Mountains are moved, and battles are won when we are rightly positioned and in the right room.

It is during these next couple of weeks and months that the Bride of Messiah must be on guard to keep herself ‘Pure and Unspotted” in the face of mass challenges.

Political turmoil, societal division, continued elements of a pandemic is to name only a few. I hear the Lord saying “This is a time my Bride will shine or a time She shall become defiled.”

The teachings of Jesus are clear: “Come out from the world.” Yes, we live in it, work in it, and vote in it. As we may be surrounded by the muck, we cannot and we must not allow the defilement of the world to tarnish the reputation and witness of Jesus. It cannot and must not tarnish the representation of His Bride!

Now is a time to walk in the Fruits of the Spirit. Now is the time to display the character of Jesus. Boldness; tempered with love. Righteousness; seasoned in long suffering.

“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.” James 1:26-27

A Babylon Needs a Jerusalem

Jeremiah, Daniel, Jesus, John and others warned of a nation named Babylon. In the Book of Revelation, Babylon and the Whore of Babylon is destroyed. Historians, and theologians have tried to determine who in fact is or will be Babylon. In the past, they thought it was Rome, then Nazi Germany, then the Soviet Union. Some, even equated Babylon with the West.

Whoever is Babylon, the Spirit of God shall reveal. Scripturally, Babylon is a place; it is a Nation. But, at the same time, it is a spiritual paradigm. It is a belief; it is an outlook of feeding the flesh.

Every Babylon needs a Jerusalem. Jerusalem, the city of the Great King. The city of the Temple of God; the city where heaven and earth meet. It is time in the modern era to leave your Babylon and enter Jerusalem.

“Leave Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans! Declare with a shout of joy, proclaim this, let it go out to the end of the earth; announce,“The Lord has redeemed His servant Jacob!” Isaiah 48:20

The Disney Princess Theology

Unfortunately, many in the church receive their inner theology from culture and not scripture. By inner theology, one means the deep rooted conscious and even subconscious beliefs and tendencies that dominate one’s world view and decision making.

If the church is to see revival, they need to emancipate themselves from the Disney Princess Theology. Most Disney princess movies create a narrative and a formula. Parents die tragically, the child is abandoned and becomes a victim of an evil plot. They are rescued and made whole through the brave actions of a prince or hero.

The princess is weak, naïve, a victim. She is all good and has no faults. She bears little to no responsibility. Then of course, it is her prince which will take her to “Happily Ever After.”

A sweet story, a comforting story, a seeker friendly story, but it is not the Full Story of the Gospel. You are not a victim. You are not naïve. You have faults, shortcomings, and have a need to grow into the warrior the Lord is raising you up to be. You are pure in the eyes of the Lord because of the Lamb, but at times, the carnal is raised up. Sometimes we manifest not Snow White but a version of the Wicked Step Mother. To not address this is to be truly naïve—to be blind to the war between the flesh and the spirit.

It is time to not be a Cinderella or a Snow White. It is time to be a Miriam—singing praises to the Lord when leaving a land of slavery. It is time to be a Deborah-leading the armies of God when no one else will bear responsibility. It is time to be a Jael, destroying the leaders of the enemies of God. You are not a Disney Princess, You are not Prince Charming. You are Priests; you are Royalty in the Kingdom God. Stop being helpless; pick up a jawbone in the spirit and go to battle.

“I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” Romans 7:15

There is no greater way to learn than to engage. This week, Pastor Dave will be teaching in a different style. We are going to engage via Zoom and have a dialogue on what the Lord is doing in the earth today. Come with your bibles; come with a desire to dialogue.

The focus will be on the motif in the Bible on change, transition and the “Birth Pains” of Matthew 24. Pastor Dave will direct instruction and give guidance, but there is a desire to have some dialogue through an orderly experience. Let’s reinvent the church experience. Questioning and dialogue is the way in which Jesus taught. Let’s model Him even in our study of His word.

“For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places. Victor or Victim

Day of Atonement

This Sunday is the Biblical Day of Atonement-Yom Kippur. As Believers, it is a sacred day to reflect on the remembrance of the atoning work of Jesus. One of the nuances of the rites in the older testament is the figure of Azazel. Azazel is the name of the goat which is sent out to the wilderness after receiving the guilt, shame and sin of the nation of Israel.

Many of us, without realizing it, take on the personality and character of Azazel. We become the scapegoat. We take on other people’s guilt, we try to be the one who will fix and “set right”. At times, we may take our issues and place them on another; making our loved one, friend, or neighbor to be the one who bears our shortcomings.

This week, let us learn the power behind the Day of Atonement. Let us bear responsibility and not cause others to be our scapegoat; let us not become the scapegoat for others. This can only be accomplished by truly looking to Jesus and understanding the full depth of His Atoning Sacrifice.

“Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

Feast of Trumpets

There is a sound that many have forgotten, a sound that is difficult to hear in the hustle and bustle of modernity. It is the sound of many waters; it is the sound of the heavenly realm.

In this season in the world, there is yet another sound that is filling the ears of man. It is the sound of fear.

This week, Pastor David will teach on the biblical festival of Yom Teruah, better known for many as Rosh Hashannah or the Feast of Trumpets.

Let us look to the Bible and see how the sound of trumpets is to resonate louder than the sound of fear.

Lessons from the Jesus Movement

The question that remains for the Christian Church today in America is “Will there be a major counter cultural movement” in our generation? Not just a cultural change in society, but rather a cultural change within the Church at large.

In the 1970’s, a major movement of faith was birthed out of the suburban experience of America—it was the “Jesus Movement”. Those young Americans who grew disenfranchised with the Hippie movement sought a truth that led to the Gospel. It was counter cultural; it was not based on business models, but on a radical life of the Gospel. It was not rooted in seminarian degrees, but out of a depth of seeing Jesus and hearing a call to live a radically different life.

This week, Pastor David continues the sermon series: “The Art and Value of Heirloom Seeds.” Let us learn and heed the warning for suburban Christianity.

Unity

Disunity plagues the nation through political division, race division and socio-economic conflict. Unfortunately, the Church has not been a good reflection of the unity which is to be found in Christ.

Unity is not a recommendation; it is a command by Jesus. So, why is it that there is disunity in the body of Messiah?

Let us learn from the ancient story of the Tower of Babel, and see how this story portrays the power of unity and also the power of disunity within the human spirit.

Spiritual Warfare

One of the biggest lies of the enemy is that there is no war. There is a war happening every day and every moment. It is a war that is happening in the Spirit. Yes, Jesus defeated Satan on the cross. But, Paul makes it abundantly clear that the battles to the spiritual war is still occurring. If you are Born Again, you have been saved from the penalty of sin and death. You have been empowered to defeat the powers of the enemy through the blood on the cross and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately, many Believers fail to exercise their rights and power, and settle for a life that is not empowered. If there is sin in your life, it is time to fight in the Spirit. If you are continually antagonized by fear and anxiety, it is time to fight in the Spirit. If your community is not transformed, it is time to adopt the principles of Spiritual Warfare. It is more than a suggestion; it is a command to become more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.

Steward Your Garden

1st Century Urgency

First century Believers had a sense of urgency for the Kingdom of God and Jesus’ return. The New Testament is filled with verses depicting the coming of the Lord and the sense of urgency for the Gospel. The early church was compelled to live a sanctified life devoted to Jesus and to quickly spread the Gospel. They had a Spirit of Urgency.

This Sunday, Pastor David continues the series on “Heirloom Seeds” looking at the lessons from the first and second centuries.

Let us look inside and determine if we have a spirit of urgency like the first Believers. Let us cultivate a passion for the lost and a desire to see the Kingdom of the Lord made manifest. For, one day, Jesus will return.

Art & Value of the Heirloom

Heirlooms: those physical items which are handed down to family members through the generations. Most families have one, a knick-knack or a valued object. Many times, it comes with a story, a memory from the past.

In the Spirit, there are heirlooms in our faith which have been handed down through the generations. The problem is many in the church prefer the new trend, the flashy and the modern. There is nothing wrong with this, but it is a problem if one forgets about the heirloom of heritage of our spiritual ancestors.

In agriculture, there are heirloom seeds. These are seeds which are not mass produced but rather are varieties of the same crop. They usually are better at withstanding drought, plague and other natural environmental problems. But, they are not “perfect” in their image. A carrot that is purple; a tomato that is not symmetrical. But they bring strength and increased nutrition.

This week, Pastor David begins a new series on Spiritual Heirlooms. Let us look at the spiritual seeds that our spiritual ancestors sowed into the earth. Let us learn from them and apply them.

Some of the seeds that need to be tended to are spiritual warfare, holiness and repentance, the priesthood of the Believer, and an urgency for the return of Jesus.

“This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” Jeremiah 6:16

Jesus: Rabbi

Rabbi: teacher or great one.

Jesus is the Son of God, and He was a carpenter. Yet, in the culture of first century Israel, He was also called Rabbi. To be a rabbi, one needs students or disciples. What does it mean to call Jesus Rabbi? In turn, what does it mean to be called a disciple?

This week, Pastor David will culminate the “Rediscovering Jesus” sermon series on understanding the paradigm of Rabbi and student.

Today, there is a spirit on earth which has created a “Self-Imposed Leper Colony”. This spirit binds men’s hearts to new teachers and new “rabbis”. The eternal Rabbi says “come”; “come out of the leper colony of your own mind and be a disciple”. You have one master, one teacher: Jesus, the Son of God. It is time to call Him Rabbi once again!

Rediscovering Jesus: The Angel of The Lord

One of my favorite elements of the biblical text are christophanies. A christophany is a visible manifestation or appearance of Christ before His human incarnation. Meaning, Jesus showing up in the older testament. Many believe that when the Angel of the Lord is manifested in the Bible, it is Jesus Himself. There is quite compelling evidence that this in fact true.

By viewing Jesus in the older testament, we can see some of His nature that is sometimes missed when only seeing Jesus in the New Testament.

The Hebrew word for Angel simply means Messenger. Yes, Jesus is God. But, part of His role in the Godhead is conveying the Message of the Father.

This Sunday, Pastor David will teach on the title and position of the Messenger of the Lord, and what is His complete message.

For Jacob wrestled with the Angel of the Lord at Peniel and declared with a LIMP: “I have seen God.”

Have you wrestled with God? Would you be willing, if you were to walk away with a limp?

“So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.” The sun rose upon him as he passed Peniel, limping because of his hip. Rediscovering Jesus: The Living Stone in an Age of Fragility

In the past several months, the world has seen the fragility of the foundation stones in which the world constructs. These foundation stones to the world: financial prosperity, healthcare, systems of government, and the rights given to citizens, are all noble creations. They are founded on biblical principles, and the Lord sees value in them. But, when man lays his own foundation stones, they are movable, fragile and not longstanding. Quickly these stones can break down due to their inherent fragility.

There is a better stone; a living stone, a cornerstone which is Jesus. This stone is laid on His righteousness, His justice, and His message. It is the stone which the builders rejected. Let us learn this week how we sometimes are complicit in rejecting the Living Stone which is Jesus for the use of stones which man’s wisdom designs. Let us learn from our errors and reposition ourselves as a church, as a society, and as a people to live a life which is not fragile, but firm on a Living Stone which cannot be shaken.

“Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.””

Rediscovering Jesus: He Who Tore the Veil

Jesus bore our sin and purchased a new relationship with the Father: free from sin, abundant in life and a reconciliation between mankind. There is yet a power and an authority that Jesus released: He is the one who tore the veil in the Temple. Upon Jesus’ last words “It is finished”, the veil in the temple that separated the Holy of Holies from the people was torn in two. This signified a release of the Holy Spirit upon the followers of Jesus which culminated in the book of Acts. This Sunday let us celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit during Pentecost. Let us recognize this happening due to Jesus: He Who Tore the Veil. “Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.” Matthew 27:51

Rediscovering Jesus: The Lamb of God

To “Rediscover Jesus” is to know Him not by a mere title, but by His position. A position displays an authority and a need. Jesus, as Lamb of God, displays both an authority and a need. Why did Jesus need to come as a Lamb? Why a need for a blood sacrifice? Most importantly, why do you and I need a sacrifice to wipe away our sin?

These are all distinct realities to the Christian walk. Many of us know the answers to these questions. But this week, let us learn the depth to the answers of these questions. To rediscover Him, we need to establish the need for the Lamb of God and then the authority of position will emerge.

Rediscovering Jesus: The Word: The Divine Reason

In John 1, the disciple that Jesus loved begins the Gospel with the paradigm of Jesus being the WORD. This may be the most perplexing word in the entirety of the Bible. In Greek: Logos; in Aramaic: Memra; in Hebrew: Davar, and in English: The Word.

What does John mean by “In the beginning was the Word” and that “the Word became flesh? All of these languages are attempting to convey the idea behind the meaning of “The Divine Reason.”

This week let us learn what is the “Divine Reason” of Heaven and Earth, and the divine reason of all things. For in the beginning, the Lord spoke a word and created light.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. Before a Resurrection There Must Be a Death

Before the earth could quake and graves opened, there needed to be a death. Before the defeat of sin and death, there needed to be a crucifixion. Before an empty tomb, He needed to carry the cross.

This Sunday, over a Billion people will be celebrating Easter. Many will observe the day out of a cultural necessity. Yet, many others will specifically be rejoicing in the resurrection of the Lamb.
But, there is still an essential paradigm that needs to be reflected upon and enacted—the Full Story.

In order for you and I to be resurrected into our spiritual destiny, we need to die to the flesh.
Like Jesus, we need to submit our flesh to the Father; we need to pick up the cross daily. The Full Story of the Resurrection is “Before a Resurrection, there needs to be a death; before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, there needs to be a submission to the realities of the cross.”

“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.

A Lamb Enters the City

Before a Trial, before a Crucifixion, and before a Resurrection, the Lamb must enter the city of Jerusalem. But from where does this motif come? Why a lamb? Why now at Palm Sunday?

It has been said: “The New Testament is in the Older Testament concealed and the Older Testament is in the New Testament revealed.” In fact, the Lord has given us the physical to teach us the Spiritual. Let us learn from Exodus and from the Gospels to more deeply understand the power of the Lamb of God. And what does the Lamb want from us?

To have a resurrection of a new life, we need to crucify our flesh; but, first we must enter the city. Jesus is deeply in love for all the cities of the earth, but His first love in the scriptures is the city of Jerusalem.

Do you love the people of your city? Do you love the city you dwell in? Be a lamb. Crucify the flesh and see the resurrection. See your city changed into her destiny.

Empowering a Generation

Godly parenting is to empower the next generation in order to position them into their spiritual calling. To be empowered is to be secure in your identity; to be in a place of emotional health. To be empowered is to slay giants; it is to be a voice to a generation. It is to be a leader and not a follower. To be empowered, one needs to pass through training. The Heavenly Father desires for His children to be empowered; to have a voice. He desires them to be leaders in a generation, but that means one needs to be trained, one needs to understand their identity and reliance on Him. If you do not do this, you will pretend to be empowered. It will manifest as manipulation, control and unhealthy relationships. Simply put, you will circle the same mountain year after year, and not enter the Land of Promise. “And the Lord spoke to me, saying: ‘You have skirted this mountain long enough; turn northward.’” Deuteronomy 2:2

Here at Bristol Hope Assembly, we are experiencing the beginnings of Revival. In the last several months alone we can see a revitalization in all things: building improvements, new people making the church their home, ministries from around the country who want to partner with us at BHA and most importantly a growing Presence of the Holy Spirit. He is healing, bringing restoration to marriages and relationships, new salvations and new baptisms.

Often, God hides his treasures in the most unlikely vessels. What can a prostitute teach us about hope and more importantly, the God of hope? Surprisingly, this story found in Joshua 2 sets the tone for this extremely important theme in Scripture. In 1 Corinthians 13 Paul states that hope is a key aspects of our Christian life, but few understand what hope really is from a biblical perspective. More than a whimsical and fleeting desire, hope, properly understood, is a powerful force that pulls us into our future. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”
(Romans 15:13). Here, the Father is described as the God of Hope. As we rediscover the Father, we find in Him the source and substance of our hope.

With a Creation Comes a Meaning

To rediscover the Father is to rediscover the purpose of our creation. Many people walk the earth without the fundamental understanding of the reason for their existence. Unfortunately, some people in the Church either have forgotten their purpose of being or may have never known their reason for being.

Many cultures call a cause for being or purpose by many different names. The French call it “raison d’être”; the Japanese call it “Ikigai”; the Americans call it “your purpose”. God calls it not by a name but by an eternal question: “Where are you Adam?” And Israel responds with an answer: Priesthood

It is simple. One needs to return to the Garden again and fundamentally look at the Father’s intent and purpose for creation and more specifically: His rationale for the creation of Mankind. If you have the doldrums, the winter blues or a general melancholic attitude, it is because you have lost your reason for being; you have forgotten the eternal question: “Where are you Adam?”

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” Genesis 3:8-10

The Father; A Groom & His Bride

The book of Hosea is a powerful representation of the everlasting love the Father has for His people Israel. To illustrate this point, God-the Father instructs Hosea to marry a harlot named Gomer. Despite her adultery, Hosea is to stand by her and love her waiting for her return. What a powerful representation of God’s endearing love towards all people who have sought other gods. He waits for your return!

Zipporah’s Key

A key is a device that can open or unlock doors. In your spiritual life, a key of understanding can do the same. As Moses is on his way to Egypt to deliver God’s people, he forgets the “key of understanding” which is needed to open the gates of deliverance. Do you ever do the same?
Fortunately, #Moses wife, #Zipporah, saves Moses from destruction and ultimately becomes a major factor in the Hebrews’ deliverance. To Name is to Define

To name something is to define its character and its use. Naming creates borders; boundaries to an object’s character and function. The God of Israel reveals His name for the first time to Moses on the mountain of Sinai. He declares His identity: Jehovah, YHVH, or simply I AM. God is a generic title, but here, on the Holy Mountain, the Divine reveals his personal name—His character.

This week, Pastor David continues the sermon series on “Rediscovery the Father.” Let us learn what is in a name, and how our perception of names determines our understanding of our relationship to objects, to a person, and to God. The name you use determines the perception of your relationship to the object. God ensures that Moses and Israel will understand the relationship by defining the perception through a name.

“And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. Sacred Ecology

The familiar is tempted to become mundane; relationship is tempted to become routine. The Sacred is Holy; and the Holy is that which is set-apart and consecrated. To rediscover the Father is a sacred act, and it is a call to restore that which is deemed common to its rightful place of wonder. A Desert God called a Desert People, and now a new desert man is brought to Holy Ground. Here, Moses receives his calling in the midst of a sacred moment, in the midst of a burning bush, and in the midst of a Holy God.

Christmas, the light of the world comes to earth. Hanukkah, God’s people refusing to assimilate. Without the birth of Jesus, the full understanding of Hanukkah’s prophetic message is missed. Without the lessons of Hanukkah, Christmas can become a mere cultural holiday.

This week, Pastor David teaches how these two holidays are not independent from each other but are rather dependent to each other. Both of these celebrations work off of each other. The Light of the World has come to earth, but He calls us to stand out, to not allow the greater culture to demean the message of Christmas. Do not assimilate. Do not allow culture to hijack the message of the birth of the Savior.

Re-Discovering Paul: A Final Farewell

We are now at the end of Paul’s ministry. After being brought to trial before both the Jewish and
Roman Authority, he appeals as a Roman Citizen to be heard before the infamous Emperor-Nero.
The process is absolutely amazing and gives glory to the Father. Paul uses every opportunity to
spread the Gospel of Messiah. Many hear the Good news during the dawn of his earthly life. From
Judea to Malta and finally to Rome people come to faith.

He is found guilty? What charge?—Speaking of the Kingdom which Rome believed was a challenge
to Roman authority. In the last weeks of his life, while in prison, he chooses to write his final letter
to his beloved friend Timothy. This week, let us look at Paul’s final letter and see what he was
contemplating in his Farewell Address weeks before his beheading. Let us be stirred to continue the
work of Jesus and of Paul by “loving our lives not unto death.”

“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I
have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for
me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day,
and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8

Discovering Paul: A Revelation Brings a Thorn

One of the most perplexing scenes of Paul’s life is found in 2 Corinthians 12. Paul states “a thorn in the flesh was given to me.” Many people attempt to determine what was the thorn that Paul has in his life. But few ask, why is it that he received the thorn? The full answer lies in the preceding verses. Paul states that fourteen years earlier, he was brought up to heaven. He saw and heard things which are inexpressible. The result of this heavenly vision: He is given a thorn in the flesh.

God uses Satan to defeat the purposes of Satan. God did it with Job, He did it with Judas and He now does it with Paul. Let us learn from the life of Paul and see what the Lord means when he tells Paul: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

“I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven… how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5 Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities.” 2 Corinthians 12:2-6.

Through his writings one sees a common theme: The early Believers throughout the Roman Empire have largely remained babes in the Lord, still drinking the “Milk of the Word.” Paul admonishes them to partake in the Solid Food, the mature teaching of the faith.

What keeps people only in the basics of the Faith? Is is the Pastor’s fault? Is it the church’s fault? Is it the Fault of the individual? The Book of Hebrews, which many believe Paul wrote, gives an explanation:

“In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:12-14

Discovering Paul: The Unlikely Apostle

Second only to Jesus in his impact on the Kingdom of God, Paul was an unlikely Apostle. At first, he is the strongest in opposition to Jesus’ disciples but he becomes one of his most ardent followers. He goes from issuing both the prison and even death warrants to Believers, to one who compiles a large portion of the New Testament. What would lead this man to be one of Jesus’ “greatest Apostles”?

This Sunday, Pastor David begins the sermon series Discovering Paul. Let us first look at how this “Unlikely Apostle” is called into one of the most amazing lives in the Bible. His life will give even the most destitute hope in the resurrection power of Jesus.

Dedication needs Education

We rejoice in the baby dedication ceremony to the youngest members of our community. Although, a dedication ceremony is not a requirement, it is a nice reminder of the importance of dedicating our lives unto the Lord.

Here is the “hard part”. To dedicate, parents must educate. The Hebrew words for dedication and education are from the same grammatical root. Parents may dedicate their children this Sunday, but the real dedication only now begins. The parents and we as a community now need to educate our children.

Let this Sunday be a reminder to us all that to be a dedicated follower of Jesus, we need to be educated in His Word, His Ways and His Love.

I have always struggled with not wanting to be complacent. It is a good thing to be warned not to be complacent in your walk with the Lord. But, there is a potential that this attitude can produce a person who does not walk in contentment. We live in a world in which bigger is better; productivity is the goal, and faster outweighs the slow. The ancient Greeks have a story of Sisyphus. Sisyphus is destined for eternity to roll a boulder up a hill. When he achieves his goal, the bolder falls to the bottom of the hill, and for eternity he must continue this act. What despair! I always wondered what goes on in the mind of Sisyphus when he must walk down the hill to begin yet again.

Paul, the Apostle, has a remedy to this pattern of life: Contentment. How do we find the balance between being content but not complacent? In this message, Pastor David teaches on how Jesus would address the dilemma of Sisyphus; the dilemma of the routine.

“For I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. Step Into the Arena

This quote had always stirred my soul when feeling discouraged. What kind of person do we want be in the Kingdom? One who turns away from opportunity due to feelings of fear and woe OR One who faces the arena of life “daring greatly”?

Why do people fail to surrender fully to the Lord? Yes, the power to control, the power of the flesh are both very logical reasons. But, if one looks deeper, many have lost touch with reality. 2,000 years have passed since His first coming, but do not forget, He is coming again. We should never forget nor lose a focus of the power of His ministry when he came to earth as the Lamb. The Law of Sowing and Reaping

Invest into your health. Invest time and love into your family. Invest in education. Invest into Kingdom principles. Whether you invest in those things which are good or bad, you will reap something—it is a spiritual and physical Law.

They key is to invest your time, energy and resources into those things of the Kingdom. Those things which are good, holy, and righteous. In return you will reap in kind. So, why do people not invest in those things which will give them the best spiritual and physical benefits in the long term?. Simply, it is the adoption of the “Poverty Spirit” which is governed by a belief in the law of scarcity.

212 Degrees

Perseverance. We wait in expectation for the breakthrough in our lives. The better job, a fitness goal, a loved one returning to the Lord. It is in the place of expectation that one sees the breakthrough. The problem is we often set our eyes on the goal and miss the transformation of ourselves in the process.
It has been said “At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees, it boils. And with boiling water, comes steam… and with steam, you can power a train. One degree. Applying one extra degree of temperature to water means the difference between something that is simply very hot and something that generates enough force to power a machine.”
It is time for the Church to move from 211 degrees to 212. That one degree is the place of transforming oneself and others. The one degree comes when the heat is turned up: the place of perseverance. Believe for the breakthrough, but allow yourself to be changed into the image of Jesus in the process.

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:2-5

Fathers Day – The reality is many of us view our Heavenly Father through the lens of relationship we have with our earthly father. You may have a subtle misinterpretation of our heavenly Father based upon our human relationships. Do you view your Heavenly Father as domineering? Spiteful? Angry? Distant? Simply a provider who does not seek personal time with you?

Or, do you view Him as one who Loves unconditionally? One who desires time with you above all else?

This Sunday, let us come together and honor fathers and learn what it means to put off any carnal perceptions of what a Dad should be.

Developing Covenant

The Book of Covenants

The word Bible simply means book. To the ancients, the Bible is more than a book; it a series of books of covenant(s).

In the modern world of convenience, and in a throw away culture of self-gratification, it is now more important than ever to understand COVENANT. Biblically, covenant is a binding agreement usually sealed with blood between two parties. It is more than a legal contract; it is motivation of the heart for deep relationship.

Pastor David this Sunday will begin a sermon series on Covenant. During the next several weeks, we as church, will study the importance of covenant for our lives today. By looking at the multiple covenants of the Bible, we will be able to better understand the relationship between God and Man. We will better understand our correct response to the Covenant of Love. Who is your tribe? Identity is a powerful force. With its understanding one can gain a purpose, a calling and a community. Many times, people forget their identity because they have forgotten the characteristics and the purpose of their tribe. God called Israel out for a divine purpose. He has called you to join this purpose as an adopted son of Abraham. He has called you to be a peculiar people. A people that looks different, thinks different and acts different. Embrace different.

“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. Who is Your Tribe? – David Greenockle

Psychologists and business leaders state that within five years “you will be an average of the five people you spend the most time with.” This raises the question to which tribe do you belong?” One needs to be both careful and purposeful with who you connect with. They will influence everything about you!

These lessons can be seen through the tribes of Israel. They were promised the Promised Land if they drove out the inhabitants. Some fulfilled the mission, other tribes took the easy way out and did not enter the best the Lord had for them. The tribe of Dan succumbed to weakness and chose idolatry. Manasseh, Gad and Reuben settled for a safe choice and did not enter the Promise.

This Sunday, Pastor David will teach on these principles. Don’t settle—choose the better way and reside with the tribe that is willing to ‘fight’ for the Promise.

Last Sunday we set aside our typical Sunday service routine and had a powerful time in God’s presence. We had a powerful time of prayer for Bristol, worship for the entire service. In this message we’ll dive into the topic of forgiveness. “Getting Serious about Forgiveness”

What is forgiveness? What is its purpose? Many people think about #forgiveness solely in terms of salvation: “God forgives me so I can go to heaven.” But forgiveness is a powerful gift from God that enables spiritual, emotional & relational freedom.

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” Col 3:13-15

Lets stop and think for a minute of the things in our own lives that He has forgiven. According to scripture, we are required to forgive. But we also “get to” forgive; it’s part of our God given identity. It’s part of God’s plan for us to live free, both now and into eternity. He forgave us completely and totally and as His children we are empowered to forgive others in the same way.

Bethany: The Place and the Power of Ascension

Bethany, a small poor village two miles in the hills outside of Jerusalem. It is a “place of sorrow.” It is a place where the poor live; it is the place of tombs and lepers. But, it is also the place Lazraus is raised from the dead, it is the place Simon the Leper is healed. It is the place that Jesus chooses to ascend into heaven to His Father.

Do you have a Bethany place in your life. The power of Jesus’ ascension to heaven is to release the complete work of the Gospel. Yet, Mary clings to Jesus and wants him to stay. Don’t be like Mary. In the modern world, authority is being questioned in every corner of society. Tyrannical authority needs to always be questioned and of course removed when able. But, God given authority is a different scenario. True authority is based on competence and responsibility. God has given authority to the sons and daughters of the Father.
It is important to realize that we are not just a Church, but a Cosmic Church. We are a church that impacts the earth but also the heavenly realm. In the book of Ephesians, Paul admonishes the Believers to “…make known the wisdom of God to principalities and powers in heavenly places.” This Sunday, Pastor David will teach on the authority you have to make know the Mystery of God to earth and also to heavenly places. Be Fire and Wish for the Wind

It has been said, “Wind extinguishes a candle and energizes a fire.” Be a fire! Wind can symbolize chaos, disorder. In fact, many winds come into our life. But the winds of life can be transformative with the right perspective. This Sunday, Pastor David will teach out of the famous story found in Mark 4. Here, the disciples are on a boat; a storm comes, they panic, but Jesus is sleeping calmly. He commands the winds and waves to settle, and they obey. But before they obey, the winds and waves teach the disciples an important lesson.

It is a lesson on “Becoming”. What are you becoming? True meaning can be found in your journey in becoming what God has called you into. If you are a candle, then it is time to begin becoming a fire. When the winds come, it will energize you to manifest your divine calling.

Transformation Occurs Through The Climb

This Sunday, we look at the events surrounding the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mt. Hermon. The geography and the context to this event breathes deep revelation to the idea of transformation. It is here that Jesus testifies of He being the Messiah. It is here that the Father declares that “Jesus is His Son and He is well-pleased.” Before this declaration and transfiguration is revealed; Jesus, John, James and Peter need to climb the highest mountain in all of Israel.
Which mountain are you climbing? One must declare the destination; one needs to enjoy the journey. Transformation occurs when we submit to the Lord and we climb to higher heights. Do not walk around the Mountain yet again like the Israelites in the wilderness, set your eyes higher and climb the Mountain of life with Jesus.

Color & The Power of Language – He is, I am

Language is one of the most powerful tools God has given man. With the power of the tongue we can uplift or tear down. With the same tongue we worship God but we may also put ourselves down. At times language can even become muddied and confusing.

To unlock the power of language we can look at how ancient man has tried to explain colors. Yes, a mystery, but profound. When and how did shades of yellow turn into orange? When and how did shades of green turn into blue. Ancient man, in fact, had no name for blue or orange and therefore blue and orange did not exist in their minds. A concept does not exist until one gives language to the concept. Language has deep meaning in defining one’s existence. Your eyes are more a projector than a camera!

We relate this to biblical concepts when we first ask the question, “Who is God?, Who is He?” By defining who He is, you will now be able to understand “Who you are.”

He is Almighty God. He is Abba. He is Salvation. He is the God who Heals. He is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. He is Love Incarnate. And He calls you His beloved, His own!

Jesus is the Lord of Rest. Through him, we have entrance into REST for our tired soul. This is not only a rest that we look to come in Heaven, but is also Rest that was created for humanity, by God. This deep rest is available as we intentionally “come” to him. He will give us rest from the burdens of life and refresh us from our weariness. He will refresh our souls.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matt 11:28 – 29

“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’” Luke 5:37-39.

To Amaze Jesus

Amaze defined: to fill with wonder, astound.

Two times in scripture, someone amazes Jesus. Two times in recorded history, someone fills Jesus with wonder, and He is astounded! What does it take for Jesus to be in wonder of you or your actions? This is a season to be reminded of the importance of study. Have you studied the word of God as much as studying for a high school test? Moses, the Prophets, and King David yearned for the day to have access to the teachings of the Messiah. You are a disciple, you are a son or daughter, we are called to study our Father’s word.

A famous scene: Jesus with a whip turning over tables in the Temple courts. Not many people realize that this scene most likely happened twice: at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry and at the end. Why would the Son of God “book end” His ministry with these events? By taking a closer look, one can see Jesus rebuking not just misuse of money in worship but also tearing down “Caiaphas and the Mafia.” Jesus cleansed the Temple of both money but also of control. What does this mystery have to say about the notion of being a disciple? A simple question: “Do you love Jesus the same, less, or more than you did on the day you first experienced his redemptive grace?”

Depending on how you answer will say much about one’s present spiritual walk. Many people may bashfully say either “the same” or “less”. If so, you are not alone. Many in the scriptures have faced the same difficulty. How do we grow in the revelation of God’s love for us? He tells us in both John 15 and also in Revelation 2. John states “Abide in my Love.” Revelation 2 gives a practical way to “Abide in His love”: Remember, Repent and Redo. Let us first remember: “You are not your own, you were bought with a price.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.”

One of the most debilitating tools of the Enemy, is to cause a Spirit of Offense to grow inside of a Son or Daughter. It appears that the Spirit of Offense or the Spirit of the Victim is gaining root in our culture. It is a Spirit of someone who is self-obsessed, fragile, easily offended or unable to deal with opposing views. We must guard ourselves against this today more than ever. You are not a Victim, you are a Conqueror. Offense comes when one is not rooted in their true identity in Jesus Messiah. Come against the spirit of modern culture with the culture of heaven: You are an individual; you are bought with the currency of heaven, the blood of Jesus.

We have all heard from dear friends and family to “Not to be anxious for the Lord provides”; “Do not worry about today for tomorrow has enough worries”; and of course, “Pray!” These are all true and powerful realities but how do we really get free from anxiety?

To have true freedom from anxiety, we need to discover the root of our anxiety. It may be understood through understanding the Hunter-Farmer Dilemma.

This week I am excited to have John Broglin share the word through a powerful and unique perspective taken from Mark 4:35-5:43.

In his Gospel, Mark has blended four events that point to a specific theme. The theme of these events is centered around the concepts of fear and faith. Mark helps us to understand when difficult situations arise, there is a Savior waiting to help us. We need only to trust.

The disciples are often “put on a pedestal”. We often forget that they were simple men who had their own fears and challenges. The power is Jesus never gave up on them and He will never give up on you. Let that propel you into FAITH.

“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Before an Answer, There must be a Question. In total, there are over 3,100 questions in the #Bible. The Bible is not just an answer book to life, but also a book of questions for life. Before an answer, there must be a question—this is the power of inquiry. Throughout our lives, we are continually looking for answers. Better than the looking for answers, is looking for the right questions.

To live a full life on earth, one needs to first ask the right questions, not just look for the answer. Many in the world already have an answer picked and then design the questions around the answer they desire. No! A disciple of #Messiah asks the perplexing questions and then waits for a response. Usually God answers not with an answer but with a question—because Before an Answer, there must be the Correct Question.
What is your ‘what’?
What is your ‘why”?

Wait in the Weight of His Glory

Waiting…. the most difficult time in life, in a season, or during a situation. Jesus tells his disciples to wait in Jerusalem after his resurrection to receive the power (Holy Spirit) from on high. Why?

The answer may be unlocked in understanding the Biblical mandated feast that comes right after Passover: The Counting of the Omer. Most people have not heard of it, but it is essential in understanding the process of waiting/tarrying in the Lord.

It is a reminder that although you live in abundance (the Promise Land) do not forget you met your God as a desert people. Let us learn what it means to “wait in the weight of His Glory” for the things in your life.

“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry (wait) in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:9

The Glory: From Theory to Practice

This Sunday we restructured our order of service to allow us to extend our Praise & Worship Time. Many of us experienced the atmosphere of heaven as we entered into a time of thanksgiving & praise. We waited on Him to begin to flow into deeper levels of worshiping Him. Many experienced God’s weighty glory, peace, & intimate connection with him during this time. What you are about to listen to is a powerful message of exhortation & a call to the Church to deeper levels of praise & worship, along with teaching on the orderly entrance into the presence of God.

Praise…until the spirit of worship comes. Worship…until the Glory comes. Then stand in the Glory!

It goes by many names… the Glory, the Cloud, the Presence, the Shekinah. We all know the moment when the Presence of God comes into a room, into an experience. “As air is the atmosphere of earth, the Glory is the atmosphere of Heaven.” Nothing will change a situation, a circumstance or a life more than one moment in the Glory/the Presence of God. This week we will take this theory in practice. Come expecting something new. Let us open our hearts and minds to a new order to service….a full reliance on the Spirit of God!

What does the holiday of St. Patrick’s Day tell us about our walking in Holy Fire with the Lord?
Patrick is sold into slavery, receives two prophetic dreams of the Lord’s deliverance and his role in bringing the Gospel to the Land of Ireland. He builds a physical fire in defiance to the pagan gods. The physical fire spreads spiritually throughout the land!

Holy Fire is the answer for the world. A fire needs an altar, it is time to rebuild the ancient altar for Holy Fire. “Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come here to me.” They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down.” 1 Kings 18:30

The Greeks had a single word that condensed the full nature of man: Arete.

Both Paul and Peter use arete in the New Testament. It is best translated as excellence in Spirit, Soul and Body. We all want change. Change in our communities, families and society. Long lasting change will only come when you allow the Father to completely change YOU. Many of us have fallen into the mistake at stopping at only changing our Spirit Man. The Father wants you to be transformed in Spirit, Soul and Body.

Let us being to embark on the journey of Arete: “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Government is an intricate aspect of culture. There is no greater divisive issue or time than an election year for the church. Who do I vote for? Which candidate best represents Jesus? Is Jesus a Republican, a Democrat, or even a Socialist? These are all questions that believers struggle with and contemplate.

Interesting enough, the issue has only become more polarized in recent years.

Let us look to the culture of heaven to see what is the Lord’s Government and what is the appropriate role for Believers in Messiah in regards to governments of men and most importantly the Government of the Messiah.

Education: The Factory V.S. The Art Studio

The “Factory” mentality of education in the world and in the Church, encourages blind obedience to the view of the majority. Its goal: to create workers and obedience.

The culture of heaven is more likened to the “Art Studio.” The “Art Studio” encourages people to innovate, think, and create. Think for yourself, yes through the guidance from Brothers and Sisters, but always going to the throne room of heaven for the answers.

The story of Hanukkah is more than a celebration of Lights. It is an affirmation for the children of God not to assimilate into the way of the world. The mystery is two fold: to be bearers of Light is our call, and to be separate from the way of the world is our challenge.

But Light has come into the World, and the Light in us is the power against cultural assimilation.
Be different. Be light. Be who He has called you to. Be a son or daughter of the Father of heavenly Lights.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Heaven is watching your life unfold throughout your days. What matters at the end of your life should be what you give attention to now. What is your focus on? What is the plot to the book which is being written about your life.

The plot focus to your life is to be one of the Heroes of Faith. To be a “Hero of Faith” is live out the creed:
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

This week let us drawn upon the “Heroes Journey” exemplified in literature and connect it to the power of the Bible.

The Education of Daniel

A part in unlocking the ability in going forth with the Gospel is by understanding the Japanese technique: Kintsugi.

Kintsugi is a Japanese method for repairing broken ceramics with a special lacquer mixed with gold, silver, or platinum. The philosophy behind the technique is to recognize the history of the object and to visibly incorporate the repair into the new piece instead of disguising it. The process usually results in something more beautiful than the original.

Many forget that when David was anointed King, the tribes of Israel did not acknowledge his anointing at first. A bitter civil war occurred among the children of Israel.

Presently, there are tens of thousands of denominations in Christianity. Is it possible that we may be living in the sin of tribalism? Tribalism creates an us-them mentality. It does not walk in the Spirit of the Lord. In fact, it grieves the Holy Spirit.

How do we counteract this mystery…the answer may be found in the little known Biblical Character: Ishbosheth
