The team had a mixed experience in this inaugural edition of The Ocean Race Atlantic, positioning itself well with a strong start and good performance over the opening days of the race. But then a significant tear in their mainsail incurred during rough conditions halfway through the contest saw the Swiss boat slip behind the leaders and fall off the powerful weather system that powered the top rour finishers across the Atlantic. 

Instead of battling for a podium position, the Embrace the Challenge crew was largely on its own for the second half of the race, racing in a postion behind the leaders but generally comfortably ahead of the non-foiling MSIG Europe team. 

The team also found a measure of success in the Super Sprint series, posting two wins across the eight sprints and finishing in fourth place on the leaderboard. 

“We’re a very happy crew,” said Heer, dockside after the early morning finish. “We learned loads on the race course. I think for our first race we achieved what we wanted. Being just 12 hours behind the winner in our first race in such a fleet is a good result…

“The first few days of the race went well, we had good pace and we found we could keep up with the fleet despite being the oldest foiling boat and the newest crew,” Heer said dockside after the finish. “But then we couldn’t find a good mode to sail in the second front… then the damage to the mainsail and we lost touch.”

“Before the conditions got really fruity we were right there and pretty confident, but when it got really windy and the sea state got up we started to drop back. We just couldn’t find the right mode to push the boat, so that’s a learning curve for us,” agreed Liz Wardley. “In hindsight, we had great conditions after we got the mainsail back up and managed to catch up to the fleet so that was good!”

Five boats in the six strong fleet are now dockside in Lorient, with MSIG Europe remaining out on the race course. With 280 miles to go, Kiwi Conrad Colman’s team is expected to finish on Saturday night.

In contrast to the breakneck pace of the racing out in the open Atlantic Ocean earlier in the race that saw the six-boat fleet of 60-foot foiling IMOCA yachts riding the front edge of an easterly-moving low pressure storm system for several days in bumpy seas and at speeds over 30 knots – the final hours of the race were played out in around 10 knots of breeze and on a flat sea.

Having opted for a more southerly route than the other frontrunners on their last night at sea, at around 1100 CEST this morning the 11th Hour Racing crew took the lead from Kojiro Shiraishi’s DMG MORI Global One (JPN), who had led the fleet for the previous 48 hours. 

Soon after, United by the Ocean also overhauled the Japanese entry, as the bow-to-bow fight to the finish between the top two crews began.

There was nothing to choose between the leading two boats for the last few hours as their courses gradually converged over the final 10 nm to the finish line north of Lorient’s Île de Groix. Eventually though, it was Meilhat’s northerly positioning that paid dividends in the light and variable winds as the French boat slipped into a one-nautical-mile lead that they held to the finish. 

The United by the Ocean crew completed the transatlantic course in seven days, 23 hours, 39 minutes, and 11 seconds, with 11th Hour Racing finishing eight minutes and 56 seconds later.

Behind the leading duo, the DMG MORI Global One crew had to see off a fierce come-from-behind challenge from Boris Herrmann’s Team Malizia (GER) – who had been 40 nm off the lead at around midday – to claim third place after eight days, four minutes, and 40 seconds of racing.

Exactly five minutes later, Team Malizia crossed the Lorient finish line to claim fourth place.

For Paul Meilhat this transatlantic victory comes on the back of his win in the same boat (then called Biotherm) in last year’s – mainly light wind – edition of The Ocean Race Europe. 

“The boat is not the latest [design],” he said. “It is fast, but we had some bad moments because it is not really fast in the big waves. Three days ago we had a really tough night in big waves in the wrong direction. But we know that in medium and light wind on flat water it is really, really fast. A lot of races finish in these conditions. We are a good team with this boat and that is working well.”

11th Hour Racing skipper Francesca Clapcich said she and the crew were frustrated to have not been able to close out the victory, but pleased with the result, nevertheless.

“It was quite epic. When you get so close to winning the race you want to fricken win it, right? But a few hours ago – six hours or so – we could not have hoped for this result. In the end, at Glénan [islands on the way to the finish line] we had the chance to win it, but we ended up second – and we are super happy. “

“Doing a transat like that of 3,000 miles and ending up just a few minutes apart is a dream. It’s why we go racing, we want to race other teams and it’s pretty cool. You get so close to the other teams that you are not even looking at the numbers anymore because you can see them. You are sailing against them, just looking at them – it’s pretty awesome.” 

DMG MORI Global One’s Samantha Davies (GBR) said the crew had been expecting the four-way battle to the finish to be close for several days. 

“It’s amazing to have such a close finish,” she said. “We saw that coming from quite a few days out. I think what is more impressive is that we crossed the ocean that close together and that there were place changes, so that it wasn’t just one person dominating. For me the interesting part was that there was a bit of boat speed, a bit of strategy, a bit of luck – so it was fun all the way across the Atlantic.”

Davies said the one-week race had been a great learning process for the crew – made up of two Japanese sailors plus a Brit and a Frenchman – whose main goal was the around-the-world edition of The Ocean Race next year.  

“The best team-building exercise is taking your team out of its comfort zone and we definitely did that in this transat, because it was brutal for quite a few days. We pushed the boat and ourselves to our limits. That’s where you learn: how each person is in the team, how to support each other, and how to communicate with each other. We just saw strengths coming out of each team member and this crazy communication that we have in this international multicultural team.”

Despite having to settle for fourth place, Team Malizia’s Cole Brauer said the crew was proud of their achievement – particularly having been handicapped by damage to their port foil control system for much of the crossing. 

“We had the foil rake issue from day three or four – so the middle of the Atlantic – and then having to jury rig something and make it happen. We were in 40 knots and then no wind. So to come back after being behind 100 miles and then lose it in the last mile, I have to tell you, is very gutting.”

“We pushed every inch of the way. From the moment we found out about the foil rake situation we never released the hammer. That’s why I’m a little emotional, because I haven’t eaten or slept that well and I have been sick since day one. 

“As a team, we came together way better than I could have expected us to. We all worked super well together. Justine Mettraux (SUI) and I were absolute weapons on our watch. When the going gets tough, you just put the hammer down.”

With the first four boats safely home, attention now turns to the final two teams – Oliver Heer’s fifth-placed Embrace the Challenge (SUI) and Conrad Colman’s MSIG Europe (NZL) in sixth. Heer and crew are expected to finish in the early hours on Friday, while Colman’s crew will arrive in Lorient on the weekend.

Venomous, L’Ange de Milon, Bulldog, Bellino and Zanzibar claimed the five IRC class titles, while Slinky Malinki won the Multihull division under MOCRA and Swift topped Class40.

Running from 2 May – 6 September, the Series combined seven established RORC races: the Cervantes Trophy, Myth of Malham, De Guingand Bowl, Salcombe Gin Morgan Cup, Cowes Dinard St Malo Race, Channel Race and Nautical Cloud Cherbourg Race. The best five results counted towards each boat’s final score.

The fleet ranged from a Contessa 32 to a Volvo 70, bringing Grand Prix campaigns, experienced offshore teams, youth crews and Corinthian sailors into the same programme. With most races starting on Saturday morning and finishing in time for crews to return home on Sunday, the format delivered serious offshore competition without demanding a full week away from work and plenty of fun both afloat and at the RORC Cowes Clubhouse.

Graeme Lewis’ Carroll Marine 60 Venomous won IRC Zero, ahead of James Neville’s Botin 52 Ino Veritas and Guy Gillon’s Botin 56 Khumbu.

IRC One produced a close contest. Jacques Pelletier’s French prototype L’Ange de Milon finished just 16.7 points ahead of Trevor Middleton’s JPK 1180 Black Sheep. Nick and Jacquetta Edmonds’ J/45 Stickleback completed the class podium.

RORC Vice Commodore Derek Shakespeare, racing his J/122 Bulldog was the clear winner in IRC Two. Jean-Eudes Renier’s Pogo RC Midnight Blues was second, with Richard Powell’s First 40 Rogan Josh third.

Rob Craigie’s Sun Fast 3600 Bellino, raced with RORC Commodore Deb Fish, won a deep IRC Three. Ian Hoddle’s Sun Fast 3300 Game On was second and Fujitsu British Soldier, campaigned by the Army Sailing Association, placed third.

In IRC Four, Inka Luhrs and Richard Bretherton’s Sun Fast 3200 Zanzibar scored won by 25 points from Mark Brown’s JPK 1010 Jetpack. Rob Cotterill’s J/109 Mojo Risin completed the top three.

The closest title fight came in the Multihull division. Peter Coote’s Dazcat 1295 Slinky Malinki defeated Didier Bouillard’s Minor Swing, another Dazcat 1295, by just 6.3 points. Dave Summers’ Dazcat 1495 DMS Vinyl was third.

Greg Leonard’s Swift won Class 40, ahead of Nicolas Lemarchand’s Weeecycling.

For several teams, the Series formed the opening part of a two-year campaign towards the 2027 Rolex Fastnet Race. It also gave the RORC Griffin Pathway’s under-30 crew responsibility for planning, preparing and racing its own campaign, building skills on and off the water. Multiple Griffin teams raced the club’s Sun Fast 3600 RORC Griffin, giving an extended squad valuable experience.

RORC Commodore Deb Fish said the racing and the atmosphere ashore were equally important: “The more you put in, the more you get out. The more you come to the post-race parties, the more you chat with your competitors, the more you learn, the faster you go and the more likely you are to win next year. We’ve had a great time!”

More than 200 athletes from over 40 nations have registered to compete across eight disciplines at the 2026 World Sailing Inclusion Championships in Portimão, making the event one of the most internationally diverse showcases of Para Inclusive Sailing.

The event will open with the Inclusive Development Programme (IDP) held prior to racing, providing critical training and development for sailors, coaches, and race officials from emerging nations.

Several nations will be making their World Sailing Inclusion Championships debut after last year’s inaugural edition which also saw many new teams take part, proving the potential of the sport to inspire diverse communities from all continents. Sailors from Barbados, Jamaica, St Kitts & Nevis, and Vietnam, among others, will participate in the championship for the first time as a result of the IDP. 

The World Sailing Inclusion Championships brings together sailors with a wide range of disabilities, including Para-classified athletes and those who do not fall under the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) classification code. They will compete across multiple classes in a dynamic environment that champions inclusivity and equal opportunity.  

The Para Inclusive One Person Keelboat World Championship (Hansa 303) is the biggest fleet, with 56 entries, while the Para Inclusive Two-Person Keelboat World Championship (RS Venture Connect) has 30 entries, potentially representing 60 sailors.

The Inclusive Two-Person Keelboat Open Championship (Hansa 303) has 16 entries, or up to 32 sailors, and the Para One-Person Technical (2.4mR) fleet has 14 entries.

New this year, the Para Multihull (Challenger) has 12 entries, and the Para WingFoil demonstration event already has 10 entries, which shows that innovation in Para Inclusive Sailing is at the forefront of growth in the sport.

The Visually Impaired World Championships has 12 crews entered, a total of 48 sailors from leading nations including Brazil, Canada, Spain, France, Great Britain, Japan, Sweden and USA.

There are also five entries in the Intellectual Impairment World Championship, representing St Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago and Hong Kong, China.

The new  SEA-DOO RXT-X comes with a ST3 hull, which provides this PWC with high performance out on the water. Alongside the ST3 hull, the X sponsons, polished impeller and extended variable trim system with launch mode ensure riders are in total control whether they are accelerating across the water or making sharp turns. In addition, the power for on-water performance comes in the form of the new 350 HP Rotax engine, which has been designed from the ground up with performance at the forefront of the development process.

Complementing the SEA-DOO RXT-X is the new SEA-DOO Spark-X. This PWC is powered by the new  Rotax 1000 ACE 110 hp (80 kW) engine, which increases the Spark’s top speed by 15 per cent. It also improves the PWC’s power-to-weight ratio. This means that riders will experience stronger acceleration, improved handling and more responsive control and performance when out on the water. Created in collaboration with award-winning multihull designers Berret-Racoupeau, the reveal marks a new chapter for the company, bringing Oyster’s experience of bluewater sailing, monohull yacht building and ownership to a new yacht type. The Oyster C60 is the result of more than a year of research, listening to current Oyster owners, previous owners who had chosen a different yacht type, prospective owners and wider market trends.

While the Oyster monohull remains at the heart of the brand, Oyster found growing interest in the space, stability and comfort of a multihull, and in the different possibilities it offers for spending time at sea. This led Oyster to consider what it could create if it started with a clean sheet of paper: a catamaran shaped by everything it has learnt over more than five decades as the leader in bluewater sailing yacht design, construction and ownership experience.

Bluewater capability remains at the heart of the Oyster C60, but the yacht has been designed to be equally at home closer to shore, giving owners the flexibility to enjoy everything from extended ocean passages to relaxed coastal cruising. It is, in many ways, a new expression of the Oyster experience: the same commitment to serious sailing, with the versatility to suit different ways of spending time on the water.

The Oyster C60 has been developed in conjunction with Berret-Racoupeau, one of the world’s most respected naval architecture and yacht design practices. The collaboration combines Oyster’s experience of bluewater sailing and long-term yacht ownership with Berret-Racoupeau’s specialist expertise in multihulls. The brief was to make full use of the space offered by two hulls while retaining the qualities expected of an Oyster. The Oyster C60 has been designed around the realities of extended cruising, with comfort and luxury considered alongside practical requirements including sail handling, visibility, access, storage, maintenance and tender use. At 60ft, the Oyster C60 provides 110m² of connected interior and exterior space. The design brings together generous areas for socialising, with more private spaces, allowing owners and guests to spend extended periods aboard in comfort.

At the stern, twin fold-down bathing platforms and a central tender lift create a broad waterside terrace, while wide-opening doors connect the aft deck with the saloon. A bar serves both spaces, creating a flexible living area that opens towards the sea. Further forward, a recessed exterior lounge extends the living space into the foredeck, while the flybridge provides another setting for sailing, dining and relaxing.

Designed to support everything from coastal cruising to extended ocean passages, the Oyster C60 combines its generous living spaces with the practical considerations expected of a serious bluewater yacht. Up to one metre of bridgedeck clearance contributes to its offshore capability, while substantial onboard capacity supports extended periods away from shore.
