Manhattan High cross country opened the postseason with a dominant performance, sweeping the team titles at its home sub-state meet Saturday under near-perfect conditions at Warner Park.
“The kids have been excited, and you love to see that. With Warner being a challenging course, they have been really excited to have others come here and race us on our course,” head coach Susan Melgares said. “And with the weather being nice, that takes a lot of the headache potential. We wanted everything to go smoothly. It was certainly a blessing overall.”

A local nonprofit will begin work in early 2027 improvements to its facility. Be Able officials say the changes will create a more welcoming environment and better serve the community.
Be Able opened in September 2020 and serves 65 to 80 people every day, organizers said. Located on the corner of Fifth and Yuma streets, the organization offers shelter, free Wi-Fi and computer access, food, laundry, showers, clothing, resource guidance and mail service for more than 200 people needing a temporary address to obtain identification.
Director and founder Scott Voos said improvements to the 86-year-old building will make the space feel more welcoming and modernize the building.

Riley County Community Corrections will lose $67,230 in grant funding for juvenile services after June 30, prompting staff to review how the department will maintain services and meet required quality assurance standards, Megan Lewis, community corrections director, told Riley County commissioners during a staff update Monday.
“We were informed last week that our reinvestment grant — that grant is what funds 76% of our juvenile services officer — will no longer be available after June 30,” Lewis said.
She said the department is working with county staff to determine how to adjust its operations in response to the funding loss.
