New polling shows voters agree that mass deportation is driving up costs for working families – and that voters are ready to hold Congress accountable

There are a lot of reasons for everything from oranges to housing costing much more lately, as we noted in our Aug. 6 report on what we call the “ICE Tax.” But a main one is something we warned about: the Trump administration’s mass deportation agenda, which is contributing to a jump in grocery prices, job losses in essential industries and costing some small businesses as much as 40% of their revenue.

THE FACTS ARE CLEAR AND THE VOTERS KNOW IT

Now, a new survey conducted by Grow Progress and unveiled by America’s Voice this week finds that American voters increasingly agree that Donald Trump and Stephen Miller’s mass deportation obsession targeting essential workers like farmworkers, construction workers and healthcare professionals is making their lives more expensive and putting daily necessities increasingly out of reach. The message is clear: Americans know who’s driving up costs, and they want it to stop.

Some key findings from the ICE tax survey below (and see the full memo here):

• Voters were 8 points more likely to agree that the deportation of essential workers is driving up the price of groceries, gas and childcare (51%, up from a 43% baseline).
• Voters were 8 points more likely to say they’d support a member of Congress who scales back the deportation of immigrant contributors to lower costs.
• The message cuts across the political map, with agreement that mass deportation is raising costs rising 15 points among Democrats and 13 points among political moderates, with smaller but still positive movement among independents (3 to 6 points).
• Latino voters showed the largest shift of any racial or ethnic group, with agreement that mass deportation is increasing costs, rising 18 points (from 35% to 53%).
• Among voters who did not vote in the 2022 midterms, agreement rose 12 points after hearing the message, from 39% to 51%. By comparison, voters who did vote in 2022 moved 5 to 7 points on the same question.

“This message works because it’s true,” said Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice. “Donald Trump promised to bring down costs. Instead, he’s spending billions of dollars terrorizing farmworkers, caregivers, and construction crews while families pay more at the checkout line, for home health care, for housing.” 

The “End the ICE Tax” report from August found that prices are rising fastest in the categories that depend most on immigrant labor, including some of the fruits, veggies and dairy products that end up on our tables. 

STATES AND INDUSTRIES RELYING ON ESSENTIAL IMMIGRANT WORKERS FEEL IT MOST

Apples are up 7.1%, fresh citrus is up more than 6%, and lettuce – already a risky enough purchase for many families due to an unprecedented cyclosporiasis outbreak – is up a whopping 32.1%. “Over half of all dairy workers are also immigrants, and dairy products have seen their prices increase well above the core inflation rate as well,” the report continues. “Fresh whole milk is up 9.0 percent and other fresh milk is up 5.5 percent, with 95 percent of each produced domestically.”

In the five states with the highest immigrant share of their labor force — California, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Florida — construction employment has fallen 1.3% while the rest of the country saw construction employment grow 3.3% over the same period. This totally avoidable economic distress is showing in Florida’s hospitality industry, with restaurants in Orlando losing an estimated 40% of revenue as immigrant staff members quit out of fear of being swept up and separated from their families.

And while Texas doesn’t rank in that top five, the pain described in the report has played out in regions within the state that have been severely impacted by the administration’s anti-immigrant policies. In the Rio Grande Valley, where mass deportation agents have carried out nearly one-fifth of the state’s total abductions, construction jobs fell 5% in the third quarter of 2025, the region’s largest quarterly drop on record. “The report also notes that new home prices are rising as construction slows due to a shortage of immigrant labor,” as the San Antonio Current highlighted.

“Business is down significantly,” Ronnie Cavazos, board president of the South Texas Builders Association, told The Texas Tribune. “If we continue on this trajectory, we will see a lot of businesses fail.”

A fresh wave of recent reporting confirmed the findings of our “End the ICE Tax” report. In The Bulwark, Adrian Carasquillo reports that mass deportation “isn’t helping lower the costs of housing, it appears to be driving it up,” with builders in the northeastern and western U.S. describing a “slaughter” that’s killing their businesses. In Wichita, Kansas – the state’s most populated city – the local economy has lost 2,240 jobs after mass deportation raids surged 360%, KCUR reports. Kansas City, meanwhile, has lost nearly 8,000 jobs following a nearly 95% increase in immigration-related arrests, the report said.

The Economic Policy Institute’s (EPI) new calculator also helps localize just how much struggling families all over the country are being forced to pay for the administration’s mass deportation obsessions:

TAXPAYERS REJECT THE SOARING ANTI-IMMIGRANT BUDGETS

“In Minnesota, $4.4 billion in federal taxpayer dollars is being spent on detaining immigrants—many of whom are in the country lawfully—and even some U.S. citizens. That means, on average, every household in the state is paying roughly $2,000 to track down, intimidate, detain, or deport people,” EPI’s report said. “If that money were spent instead on programs proven to improve the lives of working families—education, health care, living wages—it could improve Minnesota communities dramatically.” 

We noted last year that the massive $170 billion in funding that Congressional Republicans gave to mass deportation agencies could instead fund Head Start for nearly 14 years, feed our nation’s schoolkids for ten years, or solve homelessness 17 times over. But rather than coming to the rescue of working Americans drowning in bills, this summer, they gave these agencies another $70 billion – and with no guardrails.

When last year’s ugly budget law also cut $187 billion from the life-saving food assistance programs in order to help pay for tax cuts for billionaires, a $2,000 refund could go a long way in helping struggling families afford a visit to the grocery store. Instead, the loved ones of U.S. military service members are being detained and deported, U.S. citizens are having guns pointed in their faces during Kavanaugh stops, and children continue to be jailed at a notorious, for-profit prison. Liam Tadeo was on his way to a soccer game with his dad when they were abducted by ICE. He was detained at CoreCivic’s notorious Dilley Immigration Processing Center until his dad made the agonizing decision to be deported together in order to spare Liam from the risk of possible separation and prolonged detention.

“Kids should be playing soccer, going to school, not being arrested on the streets,” said Rep. Greg Casar.

“Voters are rejecting Trump and Stephen Miller’s mass deportation agenda and  this polling shows they’re ready to hold Congress accountable,” Cárdenas continued. “As Americans pay a higher price for the cost of living, elected officials who support the ICE Tax will pay a higher price at the polls come this November. It’s time to end the ICE Tax.”

When the workplace rights of immigrant workers are protected, all workers are protected

Healthcare. Caregiving. Farmwork. Construction. Hospitality. None of these industries could survive without the skills, labor and dedication of immigrant workers. Their contributions should be honored and remembered this Labor Day – and everyday.

HEALTHCARE: Immigrants help keep Americans – and the healthcare industry overall – healthy and alive. In clinical occupations, immigrants represent more than a quarter of all physicians, KFF said. In rural areas, 22.4% of healthcare workers are foreign-trained. “Sixteen percent of registered nurses (RNs) are immigrants, which is the same as the share of all hospital workers that are immigrants.” These healthcare professionals include the nearly 300,000 Black immigrants who work as physicians, registered nurses, and home health aides. Among Haitian immigrants alone, more than 100,000 work as healthcare workers.

Foreign-born workers also make up “a relatively high share of building cleaning and maintenance workers at US hospitals,” and they deserve their own praise for helping keep facilities safe for patients and clinicians. “This includes 17% of building cleaning and maintenance workers who are naturalized citizens and another 12% who are noncitizen immigrants,” KFF continued.

CAREGIVING: The immigrants who care for our elderly and disabled loved ones, children, and others requiring regular assistance “are the quiet force holding our care system together,” as the National Women’s Law Center said. “In 2019, 36.5% of all home health aides in the United States were immigrants, a rate that was twice their share of the U.S. workforce overall (17.1%),” the American Immigration Council said in 2023. “This includes undocumented workers, who made up an estimated 6.9% of home health aides and 4.4% of personal care aides.”

CONSTRUCTION: “Immigrants make up nearly 30% of the national construction workforce. In states like California and Texas, immigrant workers account for 40% or more of construction labor,” the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) said. “The U.S. construction industry employs nearly 1.6 million undocumented immigrants,” and many are highly concentrated in specific trades including plastering and drywall installation (61%), roofing (52%) and painting (51%), the report said. 

“America cannot build without builders,” ABIC continued. “The immigrant workforce is already on the job—what’s missing is the policy to keep them there.”

FARMWORK: Each and every one of us – no matter our political affiliations or views on immigration – eat the food on our table largely thanks to our immigrant neighbors. “The agricultural sector in the United States relies on foreign workers; 86 percent of agricultural workers in the United States are foreign-born and 45 percent of all US agricultural workers are undocumented,” according to the Center for Migration Studies. “Immigrant labor accounts for 51 percent of all dairy labor, and dairies that employ immigrant labor produce 79 percent of the U.S. milk supply,” said the National Milk Producers Federation. “If the U.S. dairy industry lost its foreign-born workforce, it would nearly double retail milk prices and cost the total U.S. economy more than $32 billion.”

HOSPITALITY: “Immigrant workers are not just helping; they are essential to keeping this industry running,” ABIC said, noting that one in three hotel and lodging workers is an immigrant. Immigrants are also leaders in this industry, owning 43% of motels and small hotels, 37% of restaurants, and one in three new hospitality businesses, the organization continued. “Over one million undocumented individuals currently work in hospitality, particularly in hotels and restaurants,” ABIC said. “They reduce turnover, meet staffing demands, and help keep businesses open. Without them, the labor shortage could double, placing the entire industry at greater risk.”

MASS DEPORTATION HURTS EVERYBODY

The fact is that all of these industries are being impacted under anti-immigrant policies that have already led to the mass deportation of hundreds of thousands of our undocumented neighbors.  The Trump administration is determined to sweep up millions more with their chaotic, deadly and devastating deportation machine.

In Texas, nursing assistant Yenniffer England was abducted by ICE despite holding valid DACA status. In New York, a Westchester nursing home had to lay off seven Haitian workers after the Trump administration unjustly stripped them of their legal status. In Florida, some Orlando restaurants have lost an estimated 40% of revenue following an exodus of immigrant staff members. Back in Texas, construction jobs in the Rio Grande Valley fell 5% in the third quarter of 2025, the region’s largest quarterly drop on record. “Business is down significantly,” said the South Texas Builders Association’s Ronnie Cavazos. “If we continue on this trajectory, we will see a lot of businesses fail.” And nationally, the administration itself has admitted that mass deportation is hurting our food supply. 

IMMIGRANT RIGHTS ARE WORKER RIGHTS

Americans work hard. Immigrants do, too. This Labor Day is an opportunity to express solidarity with immigrant workers and reaffirm that immigration is good for our economy, essential to a multitude of essential industries and necessary to our continued success. Just as importantly, it’s an opportunity to express that immigrant rights are workers rights. When the workplace rights of immigrant workers are protected, all workers are protected.

The tragic death of a 20-year-old college freshman after being shackled by ICE “demands that we confront the cruelty embedded in our immigration system,” said one Haitian leader

Pierre Damas Bel had everything going for him. This past May, the 20-year-old Haitian immigrant graduated from the Springfield City School District, where he was in the National Honor Society and a member of the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. “He was recruited to play soccer at Wittenberg University and hoped to attend medical school after college,” NBC News reported. “The future seemed bright.”

HIS WORLD CAME CRASHING DOWN

But his whole world came crashing down at the end of July, his loved ones and advocates said. “Forced to wear an ankle bracelet after a July 29 check-in meeting with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Bel grew despondent,” the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Further humiliation followed when he was mocked by his peers and denied a JROTC uniform due to his shackling. “I’m not feeling OK,” he told his dad Monday morning. “I’m not thinking right because of the bullies.”

That same morning, Pierre reportedly drove onto Interstate 70 in Clark County, walked into the path of a semi-trailer truck, and took his own life.

The passing of Pierre Damas Bel is utterly devastating. He was a son, a brother, a college student and JROTC member with dreams of studying medicine—and he embodied exactly what the American dream could look like.

“Haitian leaders in Springfield and beyond said Bel’s death is symptomatic of the extreme stress many immigrants are under as they fear being detained and sent back,” The Washington Post reported. Under the administration’s mass deportation agenda, roughly 300,000 Haitian contributors have been unjustly stripped of legal status and made entirely vulnerable to detention and deportation to deadly conditions in their home country. Many, like Bel, have been shackled by immigration officials despite following all the rules asked of them by the federal government.

National and local leaders laid blame for Bel’s tragic death at the feet of this intentionally cruel mass deportation agenda. “These policies are what caused his untimely death,” said Guerline Jozef of the Haitian Bridge Alliance. “Pierre died as a result of policy,” said Central Christian Church Pastor Carl Ruby. “It’s our immigration policy that took his life.” ICE’s cruelty “is killing people,” wrote Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal:

Pierre Damas Bel was a physiology and neuroscience student at Wright State who had dreams of going to medical school. He was a bright student and cherished community member.ICE’s cruelty is killing people.

FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS MOURNING THE TRAGIC LOSS

Pierre was mourned this week in a number of vigils, including Wednesday night in Columbus, where community members similarly blamed the administration and demanded justice for their friend.

“A group of women who worked with Bel at a restaurant in Springfield made the trip to Columbus for the event,” WOSU reported. “They held homemade signs and spoke through tears. They shared stories of the other bus boys trying to teach Bel to swear, and Bel sheepishly using the words. They shared photos of him wearing colorful, snazzy outfits.” Another of Pierre’s friends, Yola, shared how the young man was deeply affected by not being able to play soccer due to the ankle monitor. Many Haitian community members have shared how ankle monitors are not only deeply insulting to contributors who are following the rules, but also how they are “reminiscent of chains and slavery,” as the Cincinnati Enquirer previously reported.

“I don’t want you guys to just see this and dismiss it as a little sad story. There’s so much nuance here,” Yola said. “It wasn’t just a bracelet. It was bondage. It was restriction.”

AN IMMIGRATION SYSTEM NOW BUILT ON CHAOS AND CRUELTY

Pierre’s death also “demands that we confront the cruelty embedded in our immigration system and demand accountability from those who continue to advance these policies despite the devastating consequences,” as Jozef continued in a statement received by America’s Voice. 

The intentional cruelty that took Pierre’s life permeates practically every branch of our nation’s chaotic immigration system, from record in-custody deaths to stripping vulnerable children of their legal rights to deporting our neighbors to foreign countries they don’t even know to targeting the family members of active-duty military servicemembers to intentionally ignoring DACA renewal requests to outright refusing to medically treat a detained father even as the tumor in his neck grew to the size of a lemon. 

“At the rate I’m going, I don’t think I’ll be seeing my grandchildren,” said Rodrigo, a 58-year-old green-card holder and construction worker from California.

Yet even after this devastating news coming out of Ohio, the administration showed no remorse or any indication that it plans to halt its mass shackling of Ohio community members or the escalated deportation flights to violence in Haiti. These flights have included a number of U.S. citizen children who have been expelled from their own country alongside their parents, Miami Herald reports. One child was reportedly just three.

“The deported parents of the children condemned the move, telling the Herald that they found it ‘scandalous’ that children born in the U.S. were being sent to Haiti,” the report said. “They also condemned the Haitian government for agreeing to take them back when the government is not prepared to accept returnees. One of the children, a little boy, played with a toy as his parents reluctantly spoke.” 

But this is also the latest in a cruel pattern from the administration, after deporting sick U.S. citizen children just weeks after taking power.

THOSE IN CHARGE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE DESTRUCTION

“I wish President Trump could hear the mom’s wails,” Pastor Ruby continued in his call demanding justice for Pierre and all Haitian neighbors facing being uprooted from the homes and lives they’ve built in this country. “The family wants people to know that this was a suicide and they want people to know that President Trump, (Stephen) Miller, and Markwayne Mullin’s inhumane immigration policies made this happen.”

None of this is “acceptable or necessary,” as one advocate said

Liam Tadeo should have no worries, only excitement about starting kindergarten, having fun at recess with his friends, and coming home to his family after a day of learning and playing. Instead, the five-year-old has become the latest face of the Trump administration’s deliberately cruel war on children. 

ABDUCTED BY ICE WHILE ON THE WAY TO A SOCCER GAME

Liam and his dad, Victor Martinez Nieto, were on their way to a soccer game on August 16 when they were abducted by ICE in Austin, Texas and detained at the privately-operated prison for migrant families in Dilley, Texas. “In a video of their arrest that went viral, Liam is crying and holding on to Martinez Nieto’s hands, which are cuffed behind his back, as they are escorted into an ICE vehicle,” MS Now reported.

Scripps News reports that while Martinez Nieto had pleaded with officials to release Liam to his mom, ICE refused and continued to unnecessarily detain the child at financial benefit to CoreCivic, the private prison corporation federally contracted to operate the Dilley Immigration Processing Center. “He was supposed to start kindergarten this week, and instead he is being held in an immigration detention center,” Liam’s mom said. “He should be in school, playing soccer and at home with his family.” 

Rather than allow his five-year-old child to be separated and subjected to ICE detention conditions – a federal judge just ordered increased oversight over Dilley after ruling that the camp violated basic standards of care for kids – Martinez Nieto agonizingly agreed to leave the country together. “Children can be held in this system for months or even years at a time,” said Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch, the family’s attorney. “It’s a really bad experience for children and the family is just not willing to risk Liam being held alone.”

But even after the mass deportation administration got exactly what it wanted, Liam was not allowed to say goodbye to his mom. The pair was instead abandoned 20 hours away from relatives in Mexico, with no resources to reach or contact them, MS Now said.

U.S. CITIZEN CHILDREN DEPORTED TO CHAOS AND POSSIBLE DEATH

This taxpayer-funded traumatization of children is playing out beyond the walls of Dilley’s migrant family jail and impacting U.S. citizen kids. Last week, a deportation flight to Haiti included American citizen children as young as three-years-old, the Miami Herald reported. Recall that the administration currently has a level four “Do Not Travel” alert in place for Haiti, which is “grappling with roads blocked by gangs, government buildings and schools overtaken by the displaced and a surge in violence,” the Miami Herald noted.

“The deported parents of the children condemned the move, telling the Herald that they found it ‘scandalous’ that children born in the U.S. were being sent to Haiti,” the report said. “They also condemned the Haitian government for agreeing to take them back when the government is not prepared to accept returnees. One of the children, a little boy, played with a toy as his parents reluctantly spoke.” 

ICE is reportedly planning to escalate these deportation flights following the Supreme Court unjust decision giving the administration the green light to strip hundreds of thousands of Haitian contributors of their legal status. When nearly one in five Haitian Temporary Protected Status holders are parents to a U.S. citizen child, entire families could face separation or deportation to chaos, instability, and possibly even death.

“Following its mass de-legalization efforts, this administration is knowingly sending people, including children, back into danger in Haiti,” said Savi Arvey, director of policy refugee and immigrant rights at Human Rights First. “There is no limit to its cruelty and disregard for human life.”

TEACHER: ‘YOU CANNOT TEACH CHILDREN WHO ARE TERRIFIED’

The fallout from government-sanctioned cruelty is also manifesting in other ways, including empty desks in schools all over the country. 

In New Jersey, a court filing revealed that terrified children scattered and ran when four ICE vehicles blew past a stopped school bus with flashing lights and descended on an apartment building where elementary-age children were waiting for another bus. “The students reported that they recognized the agents were ICE,” said Kristin O’Neil, superintendent of the Lindenwold School District in Camden County. “The agents were all wearing masks, hoods up, and wearing vests.”

In Maryland, the administration’s mass deportation obsession has driven Hispanic K-12 enrollment in Maryland down for the first time in years, with some Montgomery County schools losing up to 11% of Hispanic students, WTOP reports. Meanwhile, Virginia officials describe families living in hiding. In southern Minnesota, 60% of educators reported students missing from class, the Post Bulletin reports. 

The number was even more stark in the Twin Cities, where a full 91% of teachers reported absences. Minneapolis, of course, was the site of two shooting killings of American citizens at the hands of mass deportation agents earlier this year. Families of both victims, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, continue to wait for accountability. “You cannot teach children who are terrified,” said Monica Byron, president of Education Minnesota. “You cannot reach students who are absent. These numbers show the violent federal crackdown on BIPOC communities in Minnesota did tremendous damage to Minnesota students and their schools.”

TARGETING THE MOST VULNERABLE AMONG US

There are zero legitimate reasons for targeting kids in this way. In fact, decades-old federal law recognizes immigrant children’s unique vulnerability and mandates special care and protections when they arrive in the U.S. without a parent or adult guardian. Instead, Donald Trump and mass deportation architect-in-chief Stephen Miller “are taking particular aim at children as part of their ethnic cleansing campaign, rushing them through the legal process and abusing their rights in detention,” as The Prospect recently noted.

That ethnic cleansing campaign, as described by The Prospect, had already targeted another five-year-old named Liam Conejo Ramos. While he was eventually freed from Dilley after also being abducted with his dad this past January, the Minnesota boy still faces the possibility of separation from the only home he’s ever known. His family says he also continues to struggle with the trauma of his detention, noting that he’s “very different” and panics when he sees a uniformed officer. “He sees police officers, and he says, ‘It’s ICE, Mommy.’”

Liam Tadeo also deserves his chance to go to school and reach his full potential, Lincoln-Goldfinch said. “This case highlights the cruelty of our immigration policies where a young child who has spent more than half of his life in the United States is unnecessarily detained with his father and deported without being able to say goodbye to his mother. None of this was acceptable or necessary.”

“Officers who abuse women at home are not safe to carry guns in public,” as the report says. “Officers who prey on children are not safe to interact with communities”

Ohio Immigrant Alliance’s new update to its devastating report on criminal mass deportation agents was barely out for three days before it was already out of date, the organization said.

“On the morning of August 21, Louisiana ICE agent Thomas Bailey was arrested for ‘unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling’ after breaking into a former girlfriend’s apartment,” Ohio Immigrant Alliance said. The woman was not at home at the time of the break-in, which could result in up to six years in prison and a maximum fine of $1,000 if Bailey is convicted on his charge of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, The Guardian reported. 

ICE refused to comment on Bailey’s arrest, citing “the sensitive nature of these charges and pending litigation,” the outlet continued. “However, the statement said that ICE ‘stresses integrity and ethical behavior, and the vast majority of [agency] employees perform their duties with professionalism and honor.’”

The facts tell a different story. 

UPDATED REPORT IDENTIFIES MORE THAN 150 ABUSIVE FEDERAL IMMIGRATION AGENTS

Ohio Immigrant Alliance’s “Worst of the Worst” update – a follow-up to its July report on the criminal behaviors of 59 ICE and CBP agents – has now identified more than 150 abusive agents, the vast majority of whom have been charged with or convicted of sex crimes, including against children. 

“Of the 152 individuals included in this data, 131 (86.2%) were charged with or convicted of sex offenses, and 85 (55.9%) were charged with or convicted of crimes against children,” the report said. “A total of 78 individuals (51.3%) were charged with or convicted of sex crimes against children — the single largest category on the list.”

“Roughly 90% of these crimes were forms of gender-based and sexual violence — sexual abuse, child sexual abuse, and domestic violence — rooted in the same culture of power, entitlement, and misogyny,” the report continued. “The remaining 10% are mostly on-duty killings and excessive-force/civil-rights violations against immigrants or people believed to be immigrants.”

‘CBP: THE LARGEST SHARE OF THE PROBLEM’

While ICE frequently occupies the news headlines due to its horrific public displays of bloody violence within our communities, CBP in fact accounts for the largest share of the problem, as noted in the initial report. In the updated figures from Ohio Immigrant Alliance, CBP officers make up four-fifths of the 152 cases. In several instances cited in the follow-up, federal immigration officers repeatedly abused their positions of power in order to abuse migrants, including minors.

“Daniel Alfredo Spear, a CBP agent in California, sexually assaulted a woman and her daughter after arresting them in the course of his duties,” the report said. “Fernando Saucedo III assaulted two teenage sisters who were in CBP custody. Ramon Marquez exploited the Border Patrol Explorer Program — a youth activity he oversaw — to abuse a minor participant at his home, on trips, and even inside Border Patrol facilities. Shane Millan ordered women to expose themselves during border inspections, falsely telling them it was a lawful search.”

Two CBP officers named in the report, Rodolfo Zuniga and Keith Hook, misused official government resources to access child sexual abuse materials, the report said. A third CBP agent, Jay Bernard Gillilland, was sentenced to more than 6,000 years in prison after being convicted of sexual conduct with a minor, child molestation, sexual exploitation of a child, and child abuse. 

A fourth CBP officer, Rodolfo Greene, misused government resources to stalk women. “Years later, he killed his wife and himself while a minor relative was at home.”

‘OFFICERS WHO ABUSE WOMEN AT HOME ARE NOT SAFE TO CARRY GUNS IN PUBLIC’

While ICE cited supposed sensitivity issues in refusing to discuss the details of the case around Thomas Bailey, the agent recently charged after breaking into his former girlfriend’s home, discussion around domestic violence carried out by mass deportation agents cannot be off-limits to public scrutiny when these same officers carry immense authority over members of the public, including children.

“Domestic violence, misogyny, and racism by officers are not personal problems,” the report said. “They are not private matters to be handled quietly within families or ignored by supervisors. They are red flags — indicators that an officer has a fundamental disregard for rules, authority, and social norms, and believes they can get away with breaking the law.” 

“Officers who abuse women at home are not safe to carry guns in public,” the report continues. “Officers who prey on children are not safe to interact with communities. Officers who use their authority to coerce sex cannot be trusted to hold any authority at all.”

CONGRESS HANDED OUT MORE CASH INSTEAD OF SLAPPING ON RESTRICTIONS

But rather than use their oversight authority and power of the purse to hold abusive agents and practices accountable, Congressional Republicans this past summer shoveled another $70 billion in taxpayer dollars into ICE and CBP’s pockets – and with zero guardrails. Congressional Republicans also voted against an amendment that would have helped keep mass deportation agents accountable by requiring them to wear body cams. 

Just weeks later, Texas dad Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed while on his way to work. Six days after Salgado Araujo’s July 7 death, ICE killed again, shooting Maine dad Johan Sebastián four times while he was also on his way to work. Following public outrage, ICE claimed it will ensure each “arrest team has an individual body camera.” However, the agency has since said footage will only be released in the agency’s “best interests.”

In other words, if the footage makes ICE look even worse than it already does, it’s never seeing the light of day. This isn’t accountability. It’s the continued protection of abusive and dangerous federal agents who pose a threat to communities everywhere no matter their legal immigration status. 

‘THIS REPORT SHOWS WHY THESE ABUSES CANNOT BE DISMISSED AS THE ACTIONS OF A FEW’

“For generations, southern border communities have warned about a system where federal agents wield extraordinary power with little accountability,” said Southern Border Communities Coalition Director Lilian Serrano. “This report shows why these abuses cannot be dismissed as the actions of a few because in nearly half of the documented cases, agents’ offenses were directly connected to their official duties.” 

“Whether we are talking about sexual violence, excessive force, abuse of power, or killings, the underlying question remains the same: who holds ICE and Border Patrol agents accountable when they cause harm or kill?” Serrano continued. “Agencies should not be left to investigate themselves. Communities deserve independent investigations and a system that protects our rights and dignity, rather than shielding abuse from accountability.”

Trump and Stephen Miller have introduced a new low in their ugly mission to deport vulnerable immigrant kids

It’s hard to imagine how much more of a dire situation the Trump administration can intentionally create for immigrant children, after allowing the federal contract that funded their legal representation to expire. Somehow, this administration always finds a way to impose fear on children. 

DISGRACED NGO ‘OUR RESCUE’ SET TO GET MILLIONS DESPITE SHADY PAST AND BEING ‘WHOLLY UNQUALIFIED’ TO PROVIDE LEGAL HELP

The Prospect’s Whitney Curry Wimbish reports that an anti-trafficking organization formerly led by an individual who has himself been accused of trafficking, sexual assault and grooming has won a no-bid, $244 million federal contract to represent these kids in court. Like Burke Law (more on this group later), Our Rescue doesn’t specialize in immigration law or even appear to provide legal services. Instead, the administration stands to flood this organization with millions in taxpayer dollars despite it being tied to a slew of accusations that make it wholly unqualified to hold a federal agreement, much less interact with this extremely vulnerable population.

“Our Rescue conducts international sting operations to catch sex traffickers, similar to Dateline’s ‘To Catch a Predator,’” The Prospect begins. But in 2023, several former employees accused founder and former CEO Tim Ballard of sexual assault and trafficking, including coercing women “into acting as his romantic partner so that traffickers wouldn’t suspect him,” the report said. “They said that he would assault them while demanding they ‘remain in character’ and play their part as one half of a ‘kinky couple.’”

Legal representatives for the women said they tried to report the assaults to Our Rescue “but were ignored,” NBC News reported.

Professor Stephanie Richard, Director of the Sunita Jain Anti-Trafficking Initiative at Loyola Law School, told The New Yorker that when she heard that this same organization was now poised to purportedly protect children in the complex immigration court system, she cried. Michael Lukens, executive director of Amica Center for Immigrant Rights, told The Salt Lake Tribune the group “is wholly unqualified.”

“They do not do this work; they do not have any immigrant defense attorneys; they don’t have a national network,” Lukens said.

STEPHEN MILLER WANTS TO DEPORT THESE KIDS AS PART OF HIS ANTI-IMMIGRANT OBSESSION

Both The New Yorker and The Prospect noted that the administration’s goal here is to set the stage to quickly deport these children as part of its mass deportation purge. Just look at the administration’s recent actions, including its refusal to pay legal groups millions in reimbursements for legal services already provided (a judge has since ordered it to hand over the funds), and of course allowing the contract with Acacia Center for Justice to expire, “effectively dismantling the nationwide network of nearly 100 legal service providers that have provided counsel to more than 20,000 unaccompanied immigrant children,” as the organization noted.

“We know what happens to children who go to court without an attorney,” as Estrella del Paso Executive Director Melissa M. Lopez previously told Border Report. “In one word, it is deportation.” The fact is that when individuals in immigration court have legal help, they fare better at every stage of the court process.

‘CHILDREN TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND’

In just one example of a child being forced to attend court alone, a child named Diego asked the presiding immigration judge to help him with his English-language asylum form. “I don’t know how to do it,” he said, according to Documented. “I don’t know if you can help me fill it out.” The boy “had repeatedly stressed that he was afraid to return to Guatemala in his native K’iche’, translated through two interpreters relaying his words from K’iche’ to Spanish, then Spanish to English,” the report continued.

“Unfortunately I can’t help you,” the immigration judge replied.

“In multiple immigration courtrooms this summer,” Curry Wimbish noted in her report, “the Prospect has witnessed children too young to understand the gravity of the proceedings, such as a toddler with pigtails, who had no guardian with her, and who played in her chair as her pro bono lawyer spoke to the judge, then held his hand when they walked out.”

TRUMP-ALIGNED LEGAL GROUP BACKS OUT FOLLOWING REPORTING

Our Rescue’s contract follows reporting that the administration had awarded a similarly controversial, $150 million contract to a small, Trump-linked Texas law firm that also lacks the necessary experience to represent kids. But last week, Burke Law Group announced that it was withdrawing from consideration, ABC News reported. 

While there’s no official explanation as to why it suddenly declined the lucrative agreement, it’s worth remembering that Acacia revealed that the administration had demanded it violate children’s privacy and hand over confidential information in order to get reimbursed for its services. Maybe there is too much ugliness even for a Trump-linked law firm to undertake.

Speculation aside, what is assured is that without experienced, culturally-sensitive legal help, children will have to show up to immigrant court alone and be deported, many to the violent circumstances they fled in the first place.

“If children are not able to retain the counsel that they have because of the financial situation that the various nonprofits are facing, then we will see kids removed very, very quickly,” Acacia Executive Director Shaina Aber told The New Yorker. 

THIS IS PART OF AN ONGOING WAR ON CHILDREN

Meanwhile, the administration is also attacking many of these same kids by violating a decades-old court order dictating how long a child can be held in a government-contracted shelter. That agreement says 20 days, but the judge overseeing that case “noted cases of minors confined for 50 days, 91 days or even 323 days,” The Marshall Project said. Judge Dolly Gee has now had to appoint an independent watchdog following reports of numerous violations harming children, including medical neglect. 

This is plainly child abuse and a war on children happening on a large scale – funded by our tax dollars.

“From the outset of this administration, a priority has been on stripping children of their legal rights,” Aber continued to The New Yorker. “And this episode is a culmination of what the administration has been trying to do for a long time, which is to pump up their deportation numbers on the backs of children.”

In the span of just one week, three U.S. citizens were targeted and falsely accused by mass deportation agents, including one Virginia woman who caught on video the terrifying moment when an unhinged ICE agent pointed his gun at her face and responded “I don’t care” when she told them she’s an American.

LATINA U.S. CITIZEN THREATENED WITH GUN BY ICE AGENT: ‘IT REALLY FELT LIKE A RENEE GOOD SITUATION’

Carolina Molina, a licensed mental health counselor who assists immigration lawyers with their cases, was visiting attorneys in Fairfax County, Virginia on Aug. 10 when she witnessed mass deportation agents in unmarked vehicles abducting two Latino men. When Molina voiced her displeasure from inside her car, she soon found herself swarmed by a team of agents, including a masked officer who pointed his weapon in her face and claimed that she “almost ran us over.” 

This bald-faced lie – a deliberate phrase repeatedly employed by federal immigration agents throughout the Trump administration – was debunked by Molina’s dashcam footage, which showed “that she never attempted to run over any ICE agents with her car,” as The Daily Beast reported. “Instead, the immigration agents were seemingly upset that Molina—who works with attorneys to offer counseling services in immigration cases—had called them a ‘hoe’ and a ‘f—ing b—h’ while they were detaining two people.”

“After Molina explained to the ICE agents that she had dashcam footage of the moments leading up to one of them pointing a gun at her, they soon departed without arresting or detaining her,” the report continued. While it’s very likely that Molina’s preparedness helped save her from possible unjust detention and serious harm, drivers shouldn’t be expected to be prepared with two forms of video in order to save their lives. What we’re witnessing is a dysfunctional, chaotic and oftentimes violent immigration enforcement system.

Molina said she later realized just how dangerous the encounter had been. “I don’t think I comprehended it in that moment, but looking back on it, it really felt like a Renée Good situation,” she said. 

‘THEY TAKE INNOCENT PEOPLE,’ SAYS TEEN SISTER OF DETAINED U.S. CITIZEN

Just days earlier, mass deportation agents similarly dismissed a second Virginia woman when she tried to tell them she was an American citizen, WAVY reports. 

18-year-old U.S. citizen Brittany Ramirez Corona had rushed to the scene of her husband’s Norfolk, Virginia abduction by ICE but found only his vehicle when she got there. When she tried to retrieve his car, she was handcuffed in full view of her four-year-old sister. Ramirez Corona said that when she tried to show agents her ID, they accused her of faking her documentation – another claim that has been repeatedly parroted at non-white Americans during this administration.

“I was just like, every time I kept saying I’m a U.S. citizen,” she said. “How is this fake?”

ICE agents continued to expose children to a potentially traumatic event after Ramirez Corona’s 15-year-old sister, Julie, arrived at the scene to pick up the four-year-old as well as present Brittany’s birth certificate, which showed her birthplace as Virginia. But instead of listening to Julie, agents put her and her little sister in a vehicle and dumped them at a grocery store. Julie then had to make her way to a federal building to again present the document but had trouble getting inside because she’s a minor and only had a school ID. 

When she was finally able to get inside, “agents did not immediately accept the birth certificate as proof of Brittany Ramirez Corona’s citizenship,” the report said. “They take innocent people,” Julie said. “They’re taking them to these facilities. God knows where.”

IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY: ‘THERE IS NO PROBABLE CAUSE HERE’

In Georgia, U.S. citizen John Phillips was trying to board his flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport when ICE accused him of being someone else, WSBTV reports.

“They cuff me and start asking me, ‘What’s your name? What’s your birthday?’” said Phillips, who was physically restrained and pinned to the wall of the jet bridge by ICE agents dressed in military-style gear. Only after he was handcuffed did they actually bother to compare the photo of the man they were looking for to the photo on his ID. “He looks nothing like me, other than that he’s a white guy and I’m a white guy,” he said.

His arrest also raises questions about how much airlines are colluding with mass deportation agencies in order to unjustly target travelers at airports, which have become a new breeding ground for arrests in order to avoid the kind of public pushback seen in areas like Minnesota. Phillips told WSBTV that as he was initially attempting to board his flight, a Delta agent “told him the airline was working to upgrade his seat. He just needed to board last.” He was detained shortly after.

“There is no probable cause here. A matching name and birth date is not probable cause,” immigration attorney Charles Kuck told WSBTV. “I just am flabbergasted that all of the security that we have at the airport,” Phillips said, “that they don’t know that I am the John Phillips that lives in Georgia and is not an English guy.”

RACIST SLURS, IGNORING WHITE BYSTANDERS: REPORT SHEDS LIGHT ON UGLY KAVANAUGH STOPS

The harassment of two Latina U.S. citizens comes as The New York Times reports on the civil rights nightmare unleashed by U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who authored the disgraceful opinion giving the green light to what are now called “Kavanaugh stops.” “Body-camera video and other court evidence capture federal agents using slurs and targeting Latinos while bypassing white bystanders during immigration sweeps in Chicago and Los Angeles,” The NY Times reported.

In one court declaration, U.S. citizen Angel Santiago Tafolla “said that agents chased him — a dark-skinned Latino man — while ignoring his light-skinned co-workers at the Orange County carwash. One agent discharged a Taser, arcing electricity in front of Mr. Tafolla, whose clothes were wet from his work. He was handcuffed and loaded into a van, according to the document,” the report said.

“I kept saying ‘I’m American,’ but they just kept telling me I was Latino and my documents were false and to stop talking,” Santiago Tafolla said. 

Court documents examined by The NY Times further revealed federal immigration enforcement agents paid with our tax dollars using slurs against Latinos as a matter of routine. “Tonk” is a “derogatory term typically used to refer to Mexican immigrants and intended to echo the sound of agents’ flashlights striking their heads” while “wet” is “shorthand for the slur wetback,” the report said. Other messages reported by HuffPost also show Border Patrol agents describing individuals as ‘an influx of rats’ from ‘whatamala, el salvado and hondodas.’”

Not even mass deportation agents themselves have been spared from their coworkers’ racist taunts. “In another text chain, Border Patrol personnel mocked a co-worker for ‘marrying a tonk’ because ‘he cant find a legal chick here WOW,’” HuffPost continued.

IT WAS ALWAYS ABOUT OTHERING

“From the beginning, mass deportation was never about public safety. It was always about targeting anyone and everyone this administration deems undesirable, for whatever reason,” said Joanna Kuebler, Chief of Programs at America’s Voice. “Stephen Miller and Donald Trump have total disdain for our immigrant community, our civil liberties, and the US constitution. They prefer the monstrosity they have created: an out-of-control, trigger-happy ICE agency to do their bidding.”

“This kind of chaos and recklessness has left death and destruction in its wake,” she continued. “We saw it with Renee Good and Alex Pretti in January and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián last month, and if it continues, we will see it again. Congress and DHS owe the American people real accountability before this administration’s recklessness costs someone else their life.”

“Dreamers are losing their jobs, being detained, and being deported right now,” said Texas Rep. Sylvia Garcia

DACA — the program to bring legal status to young immigrants in America — is a prime example of how government programs can transform our country for the greater good. Since first opening up for applications 14 years ago this week, roughly 835,000 Dreamers have been accepted into the program, pumping billions into the economy and giving young people who have only ever known the U.S. as home a chance to reach for the American Dream. 

Instead, the Trump administration is determined to destroy one of the most successful immigration programs in modern U.S. history. Our own government is inflicting a death by a thousand cuts by continuing to allow intentional renewal delays to rage on despite ongoing outcry from members of Congress and affected individuals. 

“These delays are not just about paperwork—they are about safety,” said the Justice Action Center. “Real families are experiencing the threat of separation because a routine process has stalled.”

KNOWINGLY AND DELIBERATELY CRUSHING DREAMS

Texan Dolores Zamora de Chapa sought a meeting with her member of Congress after administration delays resulted in her grandson’s status lapsing despite submitting all necessary documents, Border Report said. “She says she adopted him when he was young and raised him. She was pleading and tears sprung from her eyes as she told how terrified the Rio Grande City family is of him being picked up by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.”

Ms. Zamora de Chapa said her grandson is so terrified of potential family separation – the Rio Grande Valley area has been ground zero of immigration arrests in the state – that he couldn’t attend the meeting in order to advocate for himself, the report said. Many others share his fear of being separated from everything they know despite growing up “American” in every way. 

Juan Rodriguez, who has lived in the U.S. since he was toddler, was inspired to pursue journalism after watching news reporters cover the 9/11 attacks. He put himself through school, earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communication, and began covering “everything from breaking news to statewide emergencies like Hurricane Harvey,” he wrote in his Austin American-Statesman op-ed.

That disaster actually destroyed his childhood home. But rather than despairing in his grief, he ran into the storm. “Informing the community remained my top priority,” he continued. If there’s such a thing as “having to prove” your American-ness, he’s done it. “But right now, our status is precarious,” Rodriguez said. “Threats to DACA are real and mounting.”

ICE ARREST AND DEPORTATION OF DREAMERS 

“In 2025 alone, Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested approximately 260 DACA recipients and deported as many as 174 — despite our active DACA protections,” Rodriguez writes. Juan Chavez Velasco was detained while on his way to see his newborn in the NICU. Maria de Jesus Estrada Juárez was deported after attending a routine immigration appointment and had to sue the federal government to return home. José Contreras Diaz was also allowed to come back to the U.S. following his unjust deportation. But when he landed, he was re-detained by ICE. He remains in limbo.

These Americans-in-waiting were following all the rules asked of them by the federal government, and they were still punished. Rodriguez also noted renewal times that have “skyrocketed from one month to four to six months or longer” and a Texas court order that could strip work protections from 85,000 Dreamers in the state. “When Congress fails to act, our ability to continue living our day-to-day lives is left at constant risk,” he said.

NO EXCUSE IN CONGRESS NOT TO SUPPORT COMMON SENSE SOLUTIONS 

Late last month, Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) announced a discharge petition to force an up-or-down vote on the American Dream and Promise Act, which would put DACA recipients, as well as Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure holders, onto a path to legalization. 

“A discharge petition allows a majority of House members to go around Republican leadership when it refuses to bring a bill to the floor,” her office said. “If 218 members sign the petition, they can force the House to vote on the American Dream and Promise Act.” While discharge petitions have been rare in the past, at least nine have been deployed since Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) won the gavel, including a successful vote this past April to extend protections for our Haitian neighbors. However, it has since stalled in the U.S. Senate.

In announcing the discharge petition for the American Dream and Promise Act, Rep. Garcia said we’re past hypothetical scenarios. “Dreamers are losing their jobs, being detained, and being deported right now. Temporary Protected Status holders who have lived here for decades are being told to prepare to leave.” In Ohio, Haitian TPS holders who helped revitalize the Springfield area are being delegalized and hauled into ICE offices to be strapped with dehumanizing ankle monitors. This is happening behind closed doors for a reason, Ignite Peace’s Kelly Sheehy told the Springfield News-Sun.

“We’re not seeing what was happening in Minneapolis with these mass raids. They’re really trying to fly under the radar because they know that people don’t want this, that they do not support this,” she said. “We’re not going to let them do it in the shadows.”

“Congress has the power to stop this, and there is no excuse for hiding behind Speaker Johnson while families are torn apart,” Rep. Garcia said. There’s also no excuse when the majority party recently gave ICE and CBP another $70 billion in no-strings-attached funding. It’s clearly not an issue of money. It’s an issue of priorities.  “The overwhelming majority of Americans support a path to citizenship for Dreamers,” Rep. Garcia continued. “So I am calling on my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to listen to their constituents. Sign the petition. Force the vote. Put these protections into law.”

Florida and Texas families are footing the bill for Donald Trump and Stephen Miller’s radical and extreme mass deportation agenda

Floridians and Texans facing higher costs and one of the worst unemployment dips in the nation don’t have to look far to figure where to put the blame: the Trump administration’s mass deportation agenda is adding more economic pain for everyday purchases. According to the new “End the ICE Tax” report from America’s Voice, the raid on the wallet is real and quantifiable. 

STATES WITH A HIGH IMMIGRANT WORKFORCE FEEL THE PAIN THE MOST

Since last summer through this past June, the five states with the highest immigrant share of their labor force — California, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Florida — saw construction employment fall 1.3%, while the rest of the country saw construction employment grow 3.3% over the same period, the report said. 

This means the construction industry is shedding skilled workers at the absolute worst time. The field has already been facing a “significant shortage” since the mid-2000s, according to the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies. These costs seep into struggling families’ pockets, with the average cost of building a new home in these states jumping 13.1% — from $304,312 to $344,112 — compared to just 2.0% in the rest of the country.

Florida’s trademark hospitality industry has also been feeling acute pain, with restaurants in Orlando – called the “hospitality capital of the world” by the University of Central Florida – losing an estimated 40% of revenue as immigrant staff members quit out of fear of being swept up and separated from their families, the report said. 

Just weeks ago, one local restaurant owner who is himself a Venezuelan immigrant said some 20 federal agents swooped in on his business to abduct nearly one dozen of his workers despite the fact that they held work permits. “The saddest thing is seeing the workers—who become like family—seeing them in handcuffs,” business owner Luis Tarr said in Spanish-language remarks to N+ Univision. 

LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND OFFICIALS ARE COMPLICIT IN RISING PRICES

But blame for the interruption of this business and the upheaval of an untold number of lives doesn’t rest entirely at the feet of the federal government’s anti-immigrant obsessions. 

Residents angered over life becoming more and more unaffordable should know that local law enforcement’s choice to collude with ICE has only deepened the crisis unfolding across Florida, which according to the report holds the highest share of 287(g) agreements of any state in the nation. These deeply controversial federal agreements allow local police to be deputized as mass deportation agents and have contributed to heightened arrest figures in the state.

Miami-Dade County, for example, has more pending deportation cases than any jurisdiction in the country, over 146,000 as of August 2025, the report said. “A single six-day operation in May 2025 resulted in more than 1,100 arrests, the largest one-week, single-state immigration operation in ICE’s history.” 

Shattered families and community leaders like Tarr are now left paying the price.

IT’S A MESS IN TEXAS

While Texas doesn’t rank alongside Florida and the four other states most reliant on immigrant labor, the kinds of costs described in the report have played out in regions within the state that have been hard-hit by ICE abductions.

“For example, San Antonio — one of 86 U.S. cities where ICE enforcement surged last year — experienced a 462% jump in monthly ICE arrests, which cost the local economy nearly 8,200 jobs, according to Brookings Institution data cited in the report,” the San Antonio Current said in its write-up. 

In the Rio Grande Valley, where mass deportation agents have carried out nearly one-fifth of the state’s total abductions, construction jobs fell 5% in the third quarter of 2025, the region’s largest quarterly drop on record, the “End the ICE Tax” report continued. In Laredo, monthly ICE arrests of workers and community members rose from an average of just half a dozen to more than 800 after mass deportation operations began. 

“The report also notes that new home prices are rising as construction slows due to a shortage of immigrant labor,” the San Antonio Current highlighted. “What’s more, payroll data across hundreds of U.S. cities found that the 2025 enforcement surge killed roughly 668,000 jobs, with 51,000 to 297,000 of those jobs held by U.S.-born workers.”

“Business is down significantly,” said Ronnie Cavazos, board president of the South Texas Builders Association. “If we continue on this trajectory, we will see a lot of businesses fail.”

The human costs have been devastating enough. In South Texas, Sister Leticia “Letty” Ugboaja still faces unjust expulsion to a country she doesn’t even know after she was abducted by ICE while on her way to Sunday Mass in June. Sister Letty, who belongs to the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy and also serves the Rio Grande Valley as a registered nurse, was detained despite the fact that an immigration judge had previously granted her protection due to fears of persecution in Nigeria. 

While she was released later that same day, the administration is reportedly still seeking to deport the Nigeria-born nun to a so-called third-country. Nevertheless, Sister Letty said she can’t remain quiet about her ongoing ordeal. 

“There are many others in this same situation,” Sister Letty said during a recent press conference, “people who have been given some form of protection under our laws, who have followed every rule asked of them, and who still live with uncertainty.”

INSTEAD OF DRIVING OUT IMMIGRANTS AND DRIVING UP PRICES, TRUMP SHOULD FOCUS ON THE ECONOMY AND LOWER COSTS

“Instead of working to bring costs down, [the Trump administration has] chosen a deportation machine that terrorizes our communities, guts our industries and sticks every family with the bill,” America’s Voice Chief of Programs Joanna Kuebler said in a statement reported by the San Antonio Current. “It’s time to end the ‘ICE tax’ and put Texas families ahead of a reckless policy that has caused costs to rise.” Same goes for the Sunshine State. “Florida officials have embraced this administration’s mass deportation crusade and Floridians are paying the price,” Kuebler continued.
