Lost in comics

Lost in Space seems to be one of those evergreen properties. Even though it lacks a constant favor among fans, it definitely has the wherewithal to pop up again and again. The original show was pretty popular, and even spawned a late-90s movie. Now of course, it’s back on the small screen again, this time on Netflix for a show that’s garnered both critical and fan acclaim. Throughout all of the above, we’ve seen a couple of comics series’ based on the property come and go.

And now another stab is being taken at just that, though with a slightly different angle. This time around, the comics will be based on the Netflix show, and they’ll be a series of graphic novels. These will be produced by Legendary Comics, a branch of the film company, and will be a set of four (planned).

“At Legendary Comics, we love the new television series, so we couldn’t be more excited to expand the world of show with previously untold comic book adventures,” said Robert Napton, Senior Vice President of Legendary Comics. “There are some surprises in store we think fans will love.”

“What is exciting about comic books is that they are not limited by budget—only by the imagination,” said Executive Producers Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni. “This ‘Lost in Space’ comic is no exception. Legendary Comics has outdone themselves this time.”

Expect to see volume one arrive this October, both in digital and physical form, with the additional three hitting throughout 2019. Check out the preview below for a taste of what’s to come.

I have to admit, other than watching Lost in Space a bunch as a kid, I’m really not what you’d call a fan of the show. I guess it was just a little too before my time for me to really get into it in any meaningful way. While that’s true though, even I have to admit that this is one super cool robot toy.

Other than just being a classic in every way, which I think any sci-fi fan can appreciate, B9 is quite the awesome figure here from DST. He lights up, he’s poseable (which is no easy feat for him), and he’s got a ton and a half of phrases from the show. Pretty awesome all around.

And then there’s Hulk.

One of the biggest movies of the year already, Age of Ultron has been out for a little over a week and has cleaned up at the box office. A big reason for that would be the big guy here. Hulk may not have what it takes to enrapture audiences enough for a solo flick, but in the Avengers films, he’s pure gold. Well, green gold anyway.

This new figure from DST features the big guy in his duds from the flick, and sculpted by Gentle Giant.

So there you go, two new toys in stores from DST, and both of them pretty dang awesome.

Despite it being crunch time and only a week out from Christmas Day, DST has a fresh new round of awesome stuff in stores this week. First and foremost is more Batman ’66 merch in the form of the Batman himself and Robin, as portrayed by Adam West and Burt Ward in the classic TV show. Now, these ate technically banks, but as anyone who buys DST’s banks regularly can tell you, they’ll double as busts pretty wearily and should look pretty spiffy on a comic library shelf, or right on your desktop.

Next up we’ve got another set of Marvel Zombies Minimates. This new four-pack features undead versions of Dr Doom, Kingpin, Sabertooth (I still can’t figure out how he could be a zombie), and Morbius- who I guess is now a non-living vampire. Man, Marvel Zombies makes no sense.

Finally, there’s a bottle opener made in the image of the classic robot Robbie from Lost in Space. If you’re familiar with Minimates in general, then you know what to expect here. Lost in Space is just the latest property to join the stable of licenses that DST has mini-tized since the line first was born. It’s one of the coolest too since the series will debut at the SDCC next month with an exclusive offering in black & white.

The set includes Dr. Smith and the iconic Robot from the show – B-9. You can only snag this special two-pack at the SDCC (at booth #2607 for $10.00) in San Diego, but you can expect to see the rest of the line on store shelves some time soon.
