This charity gives to the poorest people on our planet. 91c out of every dollar donated goes directly to the world’s poorest people. It is backed by GiveWell and google.org and is consistently rated as one of the world’s most effective charities. This is my favorite charity due to its effectiveness and efficacy.

]]>Aspects of poker can be selfish. We are playing a zero-sum game to win other people’s money. In 2017 I want to focus on more on living a life of purpose specifically by giving. I have found for myself personally I never feel more fulfilled than when I give. To this end every month my significant other and I will choose four charities and match dollar for dollar every dollar that is donated up to these charities capped at $25,000/month. If we hit reach our goal and hit the cap we will raise over $600,000 on the year for charity ($300,000 from us, $300,000 from you).
I was inspired to do this after finding and donating to Dan Smith’s charity drive, and the astounding success of his drive, way to go Dan. I feel that there is strong leverage, in a drive like this as opposed to giving money directly, as not only does it inspire others to donate but it also raises awareness for the charities and giving in general.
The charities will change every month. We will find charities that spend their effectively and efficiently and are meaningful to us personally. charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. You can track directly where every dollar you give goes directly, which I think is, very cool.

Pencils for promise creates schools, programs and global communities around the common goal of education for all. They’ve built and are operating 380 schools in the places that need them the most. I believe there is nothing more empowering to individuals than education.

It was not one of the charities Christal and I choose to match but it is a meta-charity and one of the charities that they raise money is Give Directly.
