As a reminder, all climbers are required to sign the following online waiver prior to visiting the rocks. You are required to carry a copy of the signed waiver with them while on the property. Please sign this document, print it out, and keep a copy in your climbing pack:

Just as a reminder, only the climbing on the right-hand side of the road is open. The left-hand side has separate land owners and is closed to all access.

A huge thank you again to Stone Mountain Adventures! They were responsible for opening public access to Donation Rocks for all of us.

There are so many climbing areas on Pennsylvania Game Lands, this is definitely the largest-scale climbing closure that Pennsylvania has ever faced.

The link below details the Access Fund’s position on the closure, as well as the call to action to write a letter to the Game Commission. This is the time for public comment, and we need to make sure that climbers’ voices are heard.

Please spend 5 minutes writing a letter to the Game Commission now, while the proposal is open for public comment!

The details for the Penn State Outing Club meeting are Tuesday September 13th at 8pm in 140 Fenske Lab on the Penn State campus.

Please attend the meeting and learn what you can do to assist another nonprofit with their efforts to protect climbing areas. While C3PA was founded on a very local level, many of us enjoy climbing in Southern Utah and throughout the west. We must give equal attention to our national climbing areas as we do local.

Which brings me to serious, heartfelt and tremendously thankful portion of this blog post. As climbers, as C3PA’ers, as folks who just like to be able to romp around in beautiful rocky areas, we are deeply grateful to Jud and Anne Millar for their generosity, vision, and uncommon commitment to the local climbing community. Jud and Anne have been incredibly enthusiastic and proactive about forging a positive relationship with local climbers. They have gone to great lengths to set the stage for a respectful, warm, collaborative relationship with the climbing community, and we owe them our heartfelt thanks and utmost respect for the land that they’ve been so willing to grant us the privilege of sharing.

After May 1st, however, climbing season at Donation begins! PLEASE remember to fill out the online waiver before heading to the rocks.

And finally, a big, very belated thank you to all the climbers that showed up and worked hard during the Donation Rocks Adopt-A-Crag event! To call the event a huge success is a big understatement. Look for a proper post soon that gives the event, the attending climbers, and most of all Donation Rocks landowners, the credit they deserve.

A link to the secure form will be emailed to you to verify your identity, and you can then sign the form online. After you’ve completed it, you’ll receive a copy that you can print out and put in your climbing pack.

Properly protecting the landowners from liability is a key aspect of opening this climbing area to the public. Please sign your waivers, carry them on you, and help to ensure that others have done the same.

Adopt-A-Crag at Donation Rocks

• Time: 10:30am to 5pm
• Parking is limited. For those interested in carpooling, meet at Jo Hays Vista (Route 26 at the top of Pine Grove Mountain) at 10am.
• Bring your lunch and any fun trailbuilding tools you may have (shovels, pulaskis, gloves)
• We’ll be ending the work session with a couple hours of climbing, so make sure you don’t leave the climbing gear at home!

Stone Mountain Adventures (SMA) has been exceedingly generous and tirelessly enthusiastic about re-opening this area to climbers. C3PA, along with the Access Fund, has been working with SMA to help mitigate the legal risks incurred by opening up private land to public climbing activity. SMA will be asking all climbers to fill out a free, online waiver prior to showing up at the rocks, and to carry a copy of the signed waivers with them while climbing on SMA property. Climbing will officially be open to the public once this waiver system is in place.

In the meantime, please continue to comply with the climbing closure until SMA has a chance to put up the necessary signage and finish building their online waiver system. We’ll let you know as soon as the area is officially reopened!

Can’t let another weekend pass by without squeezing some Donation sandstone? Come out, meet the new owners, help out with some trail building and maintenance, and then celebrate by roping up and pulling down. Donation’s first ever Adopt-A-Crag event will take place this Sunday, April 10th. Details to follow very shortly!
