This milestone event, themed “30 Years of Caring: Glancing Back, Looking Forward,” celebrated the association’s legacy while fostering dialogue on the future of senior living. Industry leaders and keynote speakers delivered compelling presentations that echoed the conference’s central theme—honoring past achievements while preparing for future innovation.
One key theme from the discussion was the importance of shifting the industry’s mindset from clinical care to a focus on quality of life. Tom Grape emphasized how assisted living should be seen not just as a level of care but as a distinct philosophy of care—one that prioritizes resident well-being and engagement beyond medical needs. CALA President Christopher Carter echoed this sentiment, highlighting the contrast between skilled nursing facilities (which focus on quality of care) and assisted living communities (which emphasize quality of life).
