]]>At the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester in Mount Kisco, two little
girls packed sand into an orange mold. One 3-year-old’s fingers dug into some
kinetic sand, grabbed a handful and let it ooze from her fingertips.
“No, no more!” said the girl holding the mold. “No more?” asked the other girl.
“No, no more. I want a little bit.”
“Little bit?” asked the other girl, and removed sand from the orange mold.
This kind of play, without adult correction or established goals, frees children to learn through experience and curiosity.

]]>The honorees are two long-time supporters of BGCNW – Muffin Dowdle and Dan Hollis.
Muffin Dowdle has been a lifelong member of the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester! She grew up in Mount Kisco, one of eleven children, and she and her brothers and sisters learned how to swim and attended after-school programs at the Club. She returned to the Club as an adult as a member of the Board of Directors, serving for 30 years.
Muffin has been invaluable to the Boys & Girls Club since signing on to the Board. She has not only “sold” the Club story to countless individuals throughout Westchester and beyond, but she has also convinced those individuals to support the organization.
Dan Hollis has been practicing law for almost 50 years. Over those decades, he has led some of the most consequential litigations in New York. He has conducted some of the State’s most newsworthy trials and appeals, from state trial courts all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States. Dan has deep involvement in organizations throughout Northern Westchester, where he has resided for nearly 60 years. Dan has been the recipient of the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award and a two time recipient of the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester Humanitarian of the Year Award.
Among those attending the festive evening event were Martha Stewart, County Legislator Erika Pierce and Youth of the Year Award Winner Grace Gerosa of Pleasantville. Among the many live auction items was a horse ride through private gardens with Martha Stewart. It sold for $60,0000!
“At the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester our programming key differentiator is civic advocacy and leadership ensuring that all children every color, socioeconomic background, gender affiliation and religion have the opportunity to hone communication and leadership skills to give back to community,” said CEO Alyzza Ozer.

]]>As a way to include all of our members in this momentous occasion, we have partnered with milliner, Jackie Cicogna; and incredibly talented, generous, and creative woman. Over the course of the next several weeks, Jackie will be working with our afterschool program members to create unique and custom hats and designs that will be used in the decor of the gala.
An added benefit to this partnership is that kids are exposed to a career they had never heard of, and are being given the opportunity to engage in a new, creative activity with new materials.

]]>“Water safety is so essential, but also, it’s just important to be able to have a physical activity that’s fun. You can see how comfortable these kids are and how much fun they’re having, and it’s a special opportunity that most organizations like Boys & Girls Club’s can’t provide because they don’t have pools.” Head Swim Coach for the Marlins Swim Team told Ben.
Our Club is unique in that, not only do we have a pool, but we are the only early childhood education program in Westchester to offer swim lessons as part of the curriculum. Our little ones enter kindergarten with the basic skills to be water safe. We also offer once weekly swim lessons, in 6 week units, to our school-aged members enrolled in the Afterschool Fun Club program.
Learn-to-Swim classes are available to the public for children as young as 6-months; in our Parent and Me program; up to 14 years of age. In addition, the Club is home to the Marlins Swim Team, a competitive athletic program for youth ages 6 to 18. The Marlins team are 23-year Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) National Swim Champions and 2-time recipients of USA Swimming Bronze Medal status. In September of 2023, coach Zac and Head Age Group Coach, Connor White, were awarded the well deserved USA Swimming Metro Swimming Senior Coach of the Year, and Must Watch Age Group Coach of the Year, respectively!
