You know very well that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a rough 2026 season.

Naturally, the Blue Jays' star player is going to have to work twice as hard to get back to his former level.

And getting laser eye surgery alone isn't going to change everything.

We know Vladdy is capable of carrying the Blue Jays on his shoulders, and that's what he'll be working on this winter.

To help him, the first baseman will turn to two former Expos players: his father, Vladimir, and his uncle, Wilton.

That's what the former star Expos outfielder confirmed to Mike Rodriguez in a recent interview published on X.

Seeking help shows that the Blue Jays player is committed to putting in the effort to improve.

It's no surprise: no one expects him to want to fall apart over the next 13 years… even if he thinks he's being paid for his past achievements.

By working with his father, Vladdy can try to regain the power that's been missing in recent years.

And by working with his uncle, we imagine the focus will be more on his ability to get the ball in play. Wilton didn't have the same hitting profile as his famous brother.

The Blue Jays will need Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to bounce back in 2027, but perhaps bringing in reinforcements to better support him could also help.

And that's true even though, given his salary, it's Vladdy who should be the one supporting the others.

Would bringing in someone like Teoscar Hernandez as a key hitter, for example, make the Blue Jays' first baseman happy?

Stay tuned.

The loss of Nick Suzuki is clearly going to hurt… a lot.

Not only are the Montreal Canadiens losing their captain, but they're also losing the cornerstone of their offense. He's the team's top center, plays in every situation, and, of course, brings a lot of leadership as captain.

Obviously, he's very hard to replace—and probably the hardest player to replace in Montreal.

However, Norman Flynn sees it differently.

Even though he says he loves Suzuki and that his loss will hurt a lot, he still believes there's enough depth to replace him.

This discussion on The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro began when Marinaro asked Flynn if Suzuki was the hardest player to replace on the Habs.

Flynn explained that, even though he loves the captain, losing Suzuki would be less of a blow than losing Lane Hutson.

Obviously, both players would be huge losses, but the captain currently contributes more to the team than the young defenseman.

It's all well and good to have depth on offense and to see the other lines producing, but you can't replace a Suzuki with a Jake Evans in the long run.

In the short term, it might work (as we saw with Evans' three-point performance on Friday night).

As I mentioned earlier, Suzuki is the backbone of this offensive line, both on the power play and at five-on-five. And his leadership on the ice carries a lot of weight, too.

For two or three games, it's fine, but for possibly a month, the Habs are going to find it a long haul without their captain.

Will management try to add some depth at center soon to help make up for the loss of #14? We'll see.

In a nutshell

– At the end of the video, Caufield and Slafkovsky swapped sticks, and you can see a new “tape job” on Slafkovsky's stick. Is he trying to stir things up?

– MSL has complete confidence in HuGo.

– A major loss for the Kraken.

– Must-read.

Very early in the season, the Rangers learned that they would be without their star goaltender, Igor Shesterkin, for the entire season. On top of that, Joonas Korpisalo is also sidelined.

So far, Dylan Garand has been the No. 1 goaltender. He's doing a good job, but everyone agrees he's no Shesterkin.

He has a save percentage of .900 and a goals-against average of 2.65.

It was to be expected that the Rangers would make a move to bring in some help in net, and Samuel Montembeault could have been a temporary solution.

Instead, they decided to give James Reimer, a 38-year-old veteran, a chance.

Reimer had been given a tryout with the Rangers' affiliate, and let's just say he didn't miss his chance to prove himself in his first AHL game.

He recorded a shutout on 35 shots, which earned him a contract with the big league team.

He also became the oldest goaltender to record a shutout in the AHL.

Reimer signed a one-year contract worth $850,000.

It's still a shame for Montembeault, who is expected to return to action soon, since he certainly could have had a real chance to prove himself in Shesterkin's absence.

With Dylan Garand as the number one goaltender and Spencer Martin as the number two, Montembeault had what it took to try to steal the starting goaltender spot.

That would have been perfect for him, since he's in the final year of his contract. He would have had the chance to prove he can still be a good goalie, and then sign a good contract this summer.

The Quebec-born goaltender will have to wait for his chance, and everything indicates (for now) that he'll have to compete against Fowler and Dobes with very little playing time upon his return to action.

He'd actually had a good training camp, but his injury prevented him from showing his true worth.

In a Nutshell

– Here's the highlight of Zharovsky's magnificent goal today.

– He's averaging two points per game over seven games.

– Dawson Mercer will make his debut with the Jets in the Heritage Classic against the Habs.

– A man of good values.

– Do you think Quinn Hughes will steal the show in Vancouver tonight?

The New York Yankees clearly have a weakness behind the plate, as Austin Wells needs backup at catcher.

This was an issue that needed to be addressed at the last trade deadline, but General Manager Brian Cashman put all his eggs in one basket, acquiring Luis Garcia Jr. and Heliot Ramos in an effort to boost the offense.

The end result? The Yankees were ultimately swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series.

And the owner blamed the offense.

So, if you've been following along, the problem is still there in the Bronx. And it will need to be addressed this winter.

And a former Yankee could help the New York team in that regard. We're talking about Gary Sanchez, who is currently chasing a World Series title with the Milwaukee Brewers, but whose future in Wisconsin remains up in the air.

And the 33-year-old's latest comments about his time in the Big Apple have added fuel to the fire regarding a possible reunion between the two sides.

You know, I had my best year in the majors with the Yankees. A lot of fans will remember me. And that's the team I spent the most time with. Thanks for your support. I'm still a good player; you never know. I'm a free agent. Life throws a lot of twists and turns your way; you never know.

Yes, yes, a lot of fans remember you, Gary—myself included. For those of you who've been following us for a long time, you know he wasn't my favorite, mainly because of his defensive blunders.

But things are different now. The Yankees already have an excellent defensive catcher, and Sanchez could step in to bolster the offensive side of the catching position.

The Bronx-based team could very well take a chance on Sanchez and offer him a one-year contract without taking on much risk.

But for now, Sanchez is focused solely on the World Series

It's also worth noting that Sanchez's catching partner with the Brewers, William Contreras, has also been linked to the Yankees.

Tonight marks the much-anticipated Heritage Classic, which has been the talk of the town for several months, as the Montreal Canadiens take on the Winnipeg Jets in Manitoba.

It'll be really great to see a Canadiens game outdoors, since the last one took place in Ottawa back in 2017.

The Jets are off to a similar start to the season as the Canadiens, so we can expect a good game.

Of course, we know that the Habs will unfortunately be without their captain, Nick Suzuki, for the game (as well as Ivan Demidov), but at least #14 will be there in person to cheer on his teammates.

In fact, Suzuki is in Winnipeg with his family despite his injury, and he even skated with his young daughter.

That gave us some really lovely photos of Papa Nick.

The Suzuki family is on site, which will clearly give the team a great boost. The guys will want to win for their captain, just as they did in Chicago.

It's also worth noting that among the other injured players, Florian Xhekaj is here as well, and Samuel Montembeault is also in Winnipeg.

As for Ivan Demidov, we don't know anything yet.

In short, we're all looking forward to tonight's game—we'll have to make the most of it, since this kind of game with the Habs in action doesn't happen very often.

Game 2 of the World Series (which the Milwaukee Brewers won 5-4) ended in controversy.

Do you think Yandy Diaz—who wasn't happy that the first-base umpire called him out for breaking early—managed to hold back his momentum?

That's the question on everyone's lips this morning.

I think he broke early, based on the multiple replays we've seen. But if I thought the opposite, I could also find 500 different angles that would tend to prove my point.

In reality, my opinion doesn't count for much since the first-base umpire made the call. That's what matters.

If only we had the technology to settle this once and for all…

Diaz, who was upset on the field, was asked about the incident. He said he didn't want any controversy: he'll always side with the umpires' call.

That's also why he hasn't requested a single strike zone review via the ABS system this season, by the way: he values his relationship with the umpires.

Ultimately, it wasn't because of that one play that the Rays lost yesterday and are now trailing 2-0 in the World Series.

It's because their overall level of play hasn't been up to par.

Defensively, the Rays are making errors—just like their third-base coach. They aren't capitalizing enough on the opportunities that come their way.

In Game 1, they chose not to use Drew Rasmussen so they could save him for Saturday night. The guy came in with a four-run lead yesterday…

And he helped his team lose the game? Without even finishing the fourth inning?

The Rays left runners on base (the Brewers did too, mind you) and they're down 0-2 without the Championship Series MVP having even taken the mound yet.

Is the Tampa Bay team, which will return home for the next few games, capable of turning things around?

Theoretically, they can.

But the guys are going to have to start playing better, cut down on errors, and capitalize on their scoring opportunities.

Because right now, the Brewers seem unbeatable thanks to their offense and—above all—their bullpen.

The next three games (if the Brewers don't sweep the series) will be played in Tampa Bay, from Monday through Wednesday.

And if necessary, Games #6 and #7 will be played on Friday and Saturday in Wisconsin.

PMLB
  • It's rare for a Canadian to hit a home run in the World Series.
  • The Brewers are the kings of comebacks.
  • This must be the moment of a lifetime.

As the Montreal Canadiens prepare for their road game against the Winnipeg Jets, the Habs' top prospect, Alexander Zharovsky, continues to stand out in the KHL.

After a slow start to the season, the 19-year-old Habs prospect is finding his footing and regaining the form he showed last season.

He shone earlier this morning when Salavat Yulaev Ufa faced conference rival AK Bars Kazan.

It was a very close, low-scoring game that Ufa unfortunately lost 2–1 in regulation, despite having taken the lead.

It was Zharovsky who opened the scoring late in the second period with a superb goal, weaving past two defensemen and the goaltender before slotting the puck home.

A superb individual effort by the Habs prospect, who once again demonstrates the full extent of his talent at such a young age in a professional men's league.

This is Zharovsky's fifth goal of the season, bringing his total to 14 points in 20 games—a very respectable output for a 19-year-old in the KHL.

There was some concern about the young Russian's start to the season, but with his current production, Zharovsky is scoring points at the same rate as last season—about 0.7 points per game.

Last season, Zharovsky tallied 42 points—including 16 goals—in 59 games, which worked out to a pace of 0.71 points per game.

The Habs prospect is therefore continuing to make progress as best he can, in a league that's tough on young players, and on a fairly average KHL team.

We'll continue to follow his performances closely, hoping he'll make his way to Montreal with the Canadiens as soon as possible.

In Brief

– Even though it's still a long way off, here are the playoff odds in the NHL.

– A huge bonus for Ovi.

– Average defense for the Habs.

The Canadian Football League's regular season came to an end on Saturday, and the playoff bracket is now complete. For the Montreal Alouettes, the path to the Grey Cup is taking shape.

It all came down to the matchup between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Elks. With a 16–6 victory, the Riders secured their spot in the Western Conference for the playoffs, effectively ruling out a cross-conference matchup.

As a direct result, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will come in as the spoilers in the East Division.

The Bombers will face off against the Toronto Argonauts in the semifinals on Saturday, October 31—Halloween. The winner will then take on the Alouettes, the division champions, on November 7 at Percival Molson Stadium.

Thanks to their first-place finish, the Montrealers will enjoy a week off and home-field advantage for the Eastern Conference final—a significant advantage in front of what promises to be an electric crowd.

The battle in the West promises to be fierce

On the other side of the country, the defending Grey Cup champions, the Roughriders, will face the British Columbia Lions in the Western Semifinal, also on October 31. The winning team will then travel to Edmonton to play the divisional final against the Elks on November 7.

The 113th Grey Cup will be held on November 15 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

In the season's final game, which had no bearing on the standings, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the Ottawa Rouge et Noir 35–22. The capital city team thus finishes last in the league with a disappointing 1–17 record.

The Alouettes, meanwhile, can now begin their preparations knowing who their two potential opponents will be.

I don’t know about you, but personally, I’m really looking forward to the Dylan Larkin saga coming to an end, so we can finally find out where the Red Wings forward will continue his career.

With the Connor Hellebuyck situation having been resolved on Friday, all eyes are now on Larkin, who still hasn't been traded, despite requesting a trade earlier this summer.

I want to remind everyone that winter is fast approaching, and Larkin is still a member of the Wings.

What makes this situation complex is the short list of teams to which Larkin would agree to be traded.

Obviously, the American center's list—which now stands at ten teams—still does not include any Canadian teams, and therefore does not include the Montreal Canadiens, who, as we know, are very interested.

Well, according to the latest reports, Larkin's list isn't likely to stop at ten teams.

In fact, according to Chris Johnston, if necessary, Larkin won't hesitate to expand his list beyond ten teams, as he's really keen on being traded soon if things don't work out with any of the current ten teams.

That's what Chris Johnston stated in the latest episode of his podcast available on YouTube, as the renowned insider says he's optimistic for the Canadiens in this situation.

Even though the Habs aren't on Larkin's list, Johnston sincerely believes that Montreal isn't a definitive “no” for the American forward, unlike the Philadelphia Flyers.

Obviously, Larkin won't add Montreal to his list tomorrow, but if necessary, Johnston sincerely believes Larkin would go so far as to add the Canadiens.

With Nick Suzuki's injury, acquiring Dylan Larkin would be a huge help and would clearly make the Habs a better team and an even stronger Stanley Cup contender.

In short, the rumors between Larkin and Montreal refuse to die down, especially with Kris Draper, the Red Wings' assistant general manager, who continues to watch the Habs' games.

In Brief

– Today is the day that decides the playoffs!«

– Well said.

– It could all be decided today!

– Well done.

Last night, we got to watch Game 2 of the World Series.

In the end, Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash's strategy of resting Drew Rasmussen and having him start Game 2 of the World Series didn't pay off.

The Rays' starter was pulled from the game in the fourth inning—his shortest start since last July—and the Milwaukee Brewers won 5-4.

Yet the evening had started off on the right foot for the Rays, who came out swinging against Brewers starter Logan Henderson, scoring no fewer than four runs in the very first inning. Liam Hicks took advantage of the opportunity to drive in two more runs with a home run off Henderson. The Rays' explosive start seemed to prove right those who had predicted a long series between the two teams.

But that was to underestimate the Brewers, who capitalized on every opportunity to chip away at the visitors' lead. After one inning, the score was 4-2 in Tampa Bay's favor.

Even though Henderson had recovered from his rough first-inning outing, his manager didn't take any chances and decided to hand the ball to left-handed reliever JoJo Romero to start the fourth inning. Pat Murphy's decision proved to be the right one, as Romero had an excellent outing. Four other relievers took the mound in succession to keep the Rays' offense in check until the end of the game. Murphy certainly managed his pitching changes with finesse and success.

The game ended with a play that will be the talk of the town this morning, as Aaron Ashby caught Yandy Diaz swinging even though Diaz appeared to have pulled his bat back before the bat head crossed home plate. First-base umpire James Hoye ruled otherwise, and the Brewers were able to celebrate their second win in as many games against the Rays.

Every player Murphy used in Game 2, except David Hamilton, recorded at least one hit. This demonstrates, once again, the balance of the National League champions' offense. Each player can contribute in his own way, making this team very difficult to beat. The Dodgers before them and the Rays now know this all too well.

Five different players drove in runs for the winners. William Contreras continued his strong offensive performance with two more hits and drove in one of his team's runs.

Both teams have the day off today before the series moves to Florida, where Robert Gasser (Brewers) and Freddy Peralta (Rays) will face off on Monday.

If they want to get back in this series, the Rays will have to be nearly perfect. Acquired during the last trade deadline, Freddy Peralta will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders. The 30-year-old right-hander has had strong playoff runs, but he'll need to pitch the best game of his career to help his team bounce back.
