We delve into the earliest documentation of America First including its use by the nativist "Know Nothing" party in 1855, tracing its evolution through various eras of American policy. Then we examine how the Monroe Doctrine coincides with sentiments. The discussion also covers its contemporary applications, such as in Secretary of State Marco Rubio's "Americas First Foreign Policy," particularly concerning Venezuela. By defining key concepts like nationalism, non-interventionism, and anti-imperialism, we seek to understand the various meanings—or lack thereof—that have been attached to "America First" throughout American history.

Kimberly Dawn Miller is an environmental sociologist who holds a PhD in Global Studies with a concentration in Sociology from Florida International University. We return with Rasul Mowatt to review the history of the KKK's decline in the 1940s and 50s to its resurgence through multiple chapters during the Civil Rights Movement. Discover the tactics, motivations, and ultimate failures of the Klan in preventing the formal end of Jim Crow. We'll also delve into the Greensboro massacre and its precursors, examining the characters involved and the tragic events of November 3rd, 1979, and the accountability (or lack thereof) that followed. Finally, we explore how even within white supremacist circles, there was pushback against their extreme methods, ultimately paving the way for a new, darker white power movement.

In this episode, we are joined by friend of the show and scholar, Rasul Mowatt, to challenge the myth that the Ku Klux Klan began in Indiana, exploring the 1st wave of the Ku Klux Klan, known then as the "KuKlux." We analyse the post-Civil War context that led to the rise of white supremacist groups, vigilantism, and the Klan's origins, spread, and eventual decline. We also delve into the role of other white supremacist groups in picking up the Klan's mantle, such as the Red Shirts. This is a part of a series covering each historical wave of the Klan. Join us as we uncover the true history of the Klan and its enduring impact.

Rasul A. Mowatt is a son of Chicago and a subject of empire, while dwelling within notions of statelessness, settler colonial mentality, and anti-capitalism. Rasul also functions in the State as a Department Head in the College of Natural Resources, as an Interim Department Head in the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, and as an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at North Carolina State University. He is the author of the book The Geographies of Threat and the Production of Violence: The City and State Between Us.

In this episode, we interview Africana Studies professor, Dr. Felicia Denaud. Our myth is "All Politics is Local." The Idea that all politics is local ultimately focuses on local (and regional) matters as opposed to national (or international) matters. All Politics is Local or other dismissive retorts to electoral criticism such as "do know your local congressman?" or "local politics is where the real power is" distorts the influence that national (and international) power plays in what happens locally.

The Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party is an historical example that highlights the power of local organizing and also the limitations. Thus, on this episode we will use the MFDP as a case study to demonstrate the limits of this myth but also what we can learn to build beyond the limits.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney has filed a motion to vacate his conviction, citing the exculpatory DNA evidence. A hearing is set for August 21 to review this evidence. The case against Williams was based on unreliable witness testimony, and forensic evidence from the crime scene does not match him. Despite these findings, the Missouri Attorney General is pushing for his execution. This case highlights issues of wrongful convictions and racial bias in the justice system. In this episode, we cover the myth "Communism Made Me Do It." 'Communism Made Me Do It' is a tongue-in-cheek way of how the US blames radicalism for radicalism, instead of the US capitalist-led conditions that produce it. Since the Bolshevik Revolution, Communism, more than any other political ideology, is the boogeyman that allows radicalisms of different kinds, both anticapitalist and not, to be targeted by the US capitalist racist society. To help us debunk this myth we draw on the work of Wayne State University associate professor, Dr. Charisse Burden-Stelly in her first single-author book Black Scare / Red Scare: Theorizing Capitalist Racism in the United States. She is a critical Black Studies scholar of political theory, political economy, and intellectual history. We discuss the foundational elements that make the United States an anti-communist anti-Black society including widespread repression and propaganda. As a comrade of the show, we celebrate the publication of her book.

In this episode, we re-explore the Pendleton 2—Indiana political prisoners Christopher "Naeem" Trotter and John "Balagoon" Cole. Recently, a documentary film entitled The Pendleton 2: They Stood Up (directed and produced by TheKingTrill and our very own BMP host Too Black) debuted on Breakthrough News.

In this film, the Pendleton 2 and witnesses who were present for the '85 uprising discuss the events that led to their imprisonment and their subsequent time in solitary confinement. However, only a portion of their interviews about solitary confinement aired in the documentary. So we are sharing the full interviews of Naeem and Balagoon on solitary.

Originally, we were going to call this episode part two of our myth "Tough On Crime" but it felt more apropos to intertwine this with the myth that "torture works." Torture is an extension of counter-insurgency both domestically and internationally. Solitary confinement for political prisoners is a clear expression of such.

In this episode, we investigate the assassination of the late Patrice Lumumba. Patrice Lumumba was a leader of the Congolese movement for independence from Belgium and subsequently became the first democratically elected prime minister of the country. 62 years ago 1961, January 17th, he was gunned down thereby changing the course of history.

We honor him by offering a history of the conditions that led to his assassination and how the United States via the CIA used the inaccurate claim of communism to justify their support for his assassination. We discussed how the resources contained inside the Congo were pivotal to this tragic moment in history. We primarily pull from the thoroughly researched book White Malice: The CIA and the Covert Recolonization of Africa by Susan Williams to support our analysis.

In this episode, we discuss the (partial) myth of profiting off Black Death. Although Black Death is certainly profitable, the claim is often an incomplete critique that misses other critical elements driving the profit—particularly, Black Rage. Using the recent essay published by co-host Too Black—"Laundering Black Rage"—as a framework, we investigate how regularly Black Death occurs and how many of the opportunities created to profit and benefit from Black Death are also generated by exploiting Black Rage. Without Black Rage and the labor that follows there would not be money for an organization like BLM global to hoard, book deals to cash in on, or diversity jobs to fill. More broadly, we discuss how money laundering functions via capitalism and thus precipitates the laundering of Black Rage to ultimately serve the class interests of white capital via the State. By understanding crucial the role Black Rage plays in this process the better we can recognize our own agency in reverse-laundering it.

In this episode, we examine the myth that marxism is Eurocentric. Recently, Marxism has seen a resurgence of interest and criticisms across the political spectrum. We want to understand how most Marxists in the world are not white and not men yet some still view Marxism as Eurocentric.

We are not interested in mounting a defense for a "dead white man" or converting you to be a cult follower of him. Our inquiry into whether Marxism is Eurocentric is not reducible to an intellectual question. Why did some of the most colonized nations throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America such as China, Vietnam (where they defeated both the French and the United States), Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Angola, Mozambique, Cuba and use some version of Marxism as a tool to help guide them towards freedom from their colonial masters if it's so Eurocentric?

So for this episode, we explore the thought of Marxism beginning with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engel, we unpack the origins of the term Eurocentrism and look at Black/Afrikan contributions to the discipline that stretched and advanced Marxism to the applicability of oppressed and colonized people.

In this episode, we discuss how telling oppressed people to never resort to violence is BS. We use a case study of a little-known prison rebellion at the Indiana Reformatory (Pendleton Corrections) in 1985 that required violence for survival. We speak with the co-leaders of the '85 rebellion who are still unjustly locked up in prison, John C Cole, aka Balagoon, and Christopher "Naeem" Trotter. they highlight the conditions that led to the rebellion, why taking over the prison was a form of self-defense and the need for prison abolition. We also discuss how the United States stands in no moral position to condemn violence when it perpetuates it around including the current war in Ukraine and its military aggression throughout the globe.
