The post Best Places to Buy Ammo Online in 2026: 8 Retailers Compared appeared first on 2A Shirts.
]]>Buying ammo is typically cheaper and easier online than purchasing from brick-and-mortar stores.. Unlike traditional stores, online retailers offer a wider selection to choose from, and cartridges often cost less per round. After a simple ordering process, the shipment arrives within a few days.
Online ammo retailers are not equivalent. Some are fast and pricey. Others are slow and cheap. Several online retailers have higher shipping costs, while some may not even ship to your location.
We priced the same product at eight different retailers on the same day: a 1,000-round case of 9mm 115 grain FMJ. We then pulled each retailer’s shipping rules from their respective policy pages. Here is what we found, beginning with the cheapest.
| Retailer | Best for | 9mm 115gr FMJ, 1,000 rounds | Free shipping | Ship speed | Will not ship to |
| Ammo.com | Bulk pricing and same-day dispatch | $269.99; 27.0¢/round | Rotating promotion; not a standing offer | Same day before 3pm ET | AK, CA, HI, MA, D.C., Chicago, NYC, Buffalo, Rochester |
| SGAmmo | Surplus and imports | $273.80; 27.4¢/round | Orders over $200 | 1 to 2 business days | AK, CA, HI, MA, ME, NY, D.C., Chicago |
| Target Sports USA | High-volume shooting | $279.80; 28.0¢/round | On many cases, or everything with AMMO+ membership | 1 to 2 business days | AK, HI, D.C. |
| Sportsman’s Guide | Club pricing on ammo and gear | $279.80; 28.0¢/round ($265.81 club) | Club orders $49+ (surcharges apply) | 2 to 5 business days | CA, HI, MA, NY, D.C., Chicago |
| Brownells | Reloaders | $279.99; 28.0¢/round | $99+ with a promo code | 1 to 2 business days | AK, HI, Manhattan ZIP codes |
| Palmetto State Armory | One-day case deals | $298.99; 29.9¢/round | Deal-specific only | Up to 5 business days | HI, MA, D.C., Cook County, IL, Annapolis, MD, five CA cities, NYC |
| MidwayUSA | Broad catalog and fast delivery | $319.99; 32.0¢/round | $100+ (only on items flagged “Ships Free”) | Same day before 1pm CT | No outright state bans |
| Bass Pro Shops / Cabela’s | In-store pickup | Cases not sold online | Free store pickup | Same-day pickup | Published per product rather than as a list |
Our chart reveals two things that a sticker price alone can’t.
The spread between cheapest and costliest on one randomly selected day was 5¢ per round($50 per 1,000-round case).
The lowest-priced ammo is not always the cheapest after accounting for delivery fees. SGAmmo, Target Sports USA, and MidwayUSA all offered free shipping, whereas Palmetto State Armory did not. Brands differ by retailer because each store’s bulk offer is a different load, so this compares equivalent range ammo rather than an identical item.
Selling online out of Harvey, Louisiana since 2010. The cheapest case at the time of writing is Blazer Brass at $269.99 per case (27.0¢ per round). The site features live inventory. Orders placed before 3pm EST ship the same day (or soonest business day, if order is placed on a weekend or holiday). Ammo.com’s bulk ammo section is where the greatest value lies. The website also publishes price-per-round history by cartridge, which is a useful sanity check before deciding whether a “sale” is actually a sale.
Watch out for: Free shipping runs as a rotating promotion rather than a fixed offer. Retailers that ship for free may beat an Ammo.com order’s total price. Long exclusion list, including New York City. The rest of New York state requires an FFL transfer under the SAFE Act.
Disclaimer: We are Ammo.com.
SGAmmo is a family-run online ammo retailer out of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and a go-to for military surplus, Eastern European imports, and cartridges other big retailers often ignore. A case of PMC Bronze costs $273.80; 27.4¢ per round. Shipping on all orders over $200 is free, so every full case ships gratis. Orders go out in one to two business days, and reported stock numbers are accurate.
Watch out for: No membership or loyalty program. The longest flat exclusion list of any website featured in this article: no sales to Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New York state, Washington, D.C., or the City of Chicago, with no dealer workarounds available.
Often referred to as “the Costco of online ammo,” Target Sports USA offers 9mm FMJs for $279.80 a case with free shipping, or $251.82 with an AMMO+ membership ($99.99 a year; often discounted). Membership includes free shipping on everything regardless of size, up to 8% off ammunition, and priority restock alerts. If you buy several cases a year, AMMO+ pays for itself on shipping alone. For a couple of small orders a year, it will not.
Watch out for: Repeated small orders get expensive without AMMO + membership. Selection primarily features mainstream ammo with very few niche rounds. Orders to Alaska and Hawaii go through a freight forwarder; California, to an FFL; New York state, to FFL holders for subsequent customer pickup only.
A Minnesota catalog retailer with a strong background in surplus, Sportsman’s Guide, offers a worthwhile Buyer’s Club Rewards Visa. Membership costs $59.99 a year and includes 5% off firearms and ammo, 10% off most other gear, free shipping on all orders over $49, and a four-payment plan available on orders over $150. A case of 9mm FMJs ran $279.80 at list, or $265.81 for members. The retailer’s catalog primarily leans toward value brands and closeouts.
Watch out for: Ammunition carries extra shipping fees even against the club’s free-shipping threshold, so the free shipping is less “free” than it seems. Slower than the specialists at two to five business days. Will not ship ammo to California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York state, Washington, D.C., or Chicago.
Serving gunsmiths since 1939, Brownells had the most extensive parts and reloading catalog in the country. At the time of writing, 9mm FMJs cost $279.99 a case(28.0¢ per round). Brownells is a convenient one-stop-shop for ammo and reloading components alike. The $22.99 hazmat fee on powder and component primers is standard. The company occasionally offers a no-hazmat fee promotion, which saves a little bit of money.
Watch out for: Middle-of-the-road ammo pricing. Free shipping requires a promo code. No delivery to Alaska, Hawaii or Manhattan ZIP codes beginning with 100, 101 or 102. California orders go to FFL holders only.
Built on affordable AR parts and run on volume and daily deals, PSA’s deals page regularly features a case of 9mm or 5.56 for a hard-to-beat price with free shipping. The site’s everyday prices are not the draw, though. The case we checked cost $298.99 with no free shipping; the second most expensive in this eight-way comparison. Keep this company in the rotation for the deals, not the catalogue.
Watch out for: Orders are processed for shipment in as many as five business days, or longer during a sale. Deals move fast. PSA also has the longest list of excluded jurisdictions in this comparisonMassachusetts, Hawaii, Washington, D.C., Cook County and Chicago , Annapolis, and five California cities.
Midway USA has been shipping from Columbia, Missouri since 1977 and offers the best logistics of any other outdoor retailer. Same-day dispatch before 1pm CST on business days, with a central location that assures two-day ground shipment throughout most of the lower 48. MidwayUSA publishes no outright state bans on ammunition. California and New York go to an FFL and several states need documents uploaded, but there is no list of places it simply refuses. If you live somewhere the others will not serve, start here. Just take care that MidwayUSA offered the most expensive 1,000-round case of 9mm in our comparison: $319.99 (though it did ship free).
Watch out for: Free shipping applies only to items flagged “Ships Free,” and excludes bulky goods (which routinely covers cases of ammo). Check the product page rather than assuming.
Sometimes the fastest shipping is no shipping at all. Order online, pick up at a store the same day, and presto – you’re shooting. These brick-and-mortar stores may be the simplest route if you live in a state with a dealer-transfer rule, because their staff handles the paperwork.
Watch out for: Not competitive on bulk, and full cases generally aren’t sold online. Restrictions are published per product rather than as a state list, so read the fine print on each product page.
The following general information, which is current as of September, 2026, is not intended as legal advice. Ammunition laws change often, and cities and counties may add rules on top of state law. Check applicable state and municipal laws and the e retailer’s shipping page before placing your order.
Federal law states that purchasers must be 18 or older to buy rifle or shotgun ammunition from a dealer; at least 21 for handgun ammunition. Sales to prohibited persons (such as convicted felons, unlawful drug users, those with domestic violence restraining orders, or those who’ve been adjudicated to mental health facilities) are also illegal.
Some online retailers have age restrictions that prevent those under 21 from purchasing handgun-capable calibers. Younger shoppers may find it challenging to purchase cartridges for their long guns,, such as 22 LR, 9mm, 38 Special, and 357 Magnum, due to these policies. It’s a good idea to check the company’s age policy when shopping for ammo online.
Several states enforce their own restrictions on ammo sales:
Three things worth knowing about shipping:
Make sure to properly store any ammunition you own. Our guide to keeping your ammo safe covers the basics. If you are buying for a business or a club, see our tips for buying ammo in wholesale quantities.
Yes, in most of the United States. Federal law requires you to be 18 or older to purchase rifle and shotgun ammunition, and 21 or older for handgun ammunition (and you must be legally permitted to possess it). California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island impose their own restrictions. Several retailers do not ship to those states under any condition.
Only seven states and Washington D.C. have FFL dealer or license requirements for ammunition purchases. In most areas, ammunition ships straight to the purchaser’s home addresses.
On September 18th, 2026, the cheapest 1,000-round case of 9mm 115 grain FMJammo was available from Ammo.com for $269.99. SGAmmo came next at $273.80 (including free shipping, making it the cheapest including delivery). Target Sports USA, Sportsman’s Guide, and Brownells all landed at 28.0¢ per round; Palmetto State Armory at 29.9¢ and MidwayUSA, 32.0¢ per round.
Most ammo purchased online arrives between one to five business days.. Ammo.com ships ammunition on the same day (or next business day, if the order is placed on a weekend or holiday) for all orders placed before 3pm. MidwayUSA does the same, but before 1pm CST. Palmetto State Armory and Sportsman’s Guide report longer processing windows, and may take several days to ship during busy periods.
Usually because the order contains smokeless powder or primers. If a retailer adds a hazmat fee to a ground order of loaded ammunition, confirm what it covers, exactly.
Very few ship direct to either state. California requires the transaction to be conducted in person at a licensed ammunition vendor. Most retailers do not support that. New York requires a dealer transfer. Bass Pro Shops or Cabela’s in-store pickup is the simplest route in both states because the stores handle the paperwork at their counters. Check a retailer’s shipping page to confirm it can actually deliver to you before loading up your cart
Bookmark at least two or three online ammo retailers rather than one.

? There must be at least half a dozen partial cartoon mouse heads lodged between our esophagus and duodenum by this point. We’re rapidly approaching an age when every grain of white rice will have a minuscule sticker grafted to it.
Bumper stickers are nearly as irksome. Ever notice how it’s always the people who are totally out to lunch on either side of the political spectrum who like to shellac their bumpers with sticker messages? On one end you’ve got the hippy-dippy woo woos with stickers that say things like “Animals don’t hug their children with nuclear arms,” “My other car is my third eye,” and “Nader LaDuke 2000.” On the other you’ve got good old boys with stickers to the tune of “Nuke the whales,” and “Rhode Island terrorist hunting permit,” plus an average of eighteen variations of the Browning logo.
Finally you’ve got those irremovable stickers that retailers put on their products. We shouldn’t have to submerge our new wine glasses in nail polish remover for a week just because we want to drink merlot out of a residue-free drinking vessel, you dingbats!
Feh.
But in a world full of annoying stickers, there is one type of sticker that is undeniably good. We are of course referring to official 2nd Amendment Shirts stickers. These are loving designed by us, with jaw-droppingly attractive graphics and high quality adhesives that will mount them to any surface within reason. When you affix a 2nd Amendment Shirts sticker to your car bumper, skateboard, or Zamboni, you’re announcing to the world that you are one cool cat who’s hip with the times. Buy a hundred to cut up into ribbons and never need tape again!

]]>That’s not bravado. That’s the non-aggression principle stitched straight into cotton. You do you. I’ll do me. We’ll trade, share a drink, maybe even sing a little kumbaya around the fire. But if you decide your version of “peace” involves forcing your dogma onto me — well, that’s when the “heavy weapons” part of the equation comes in handy.
See, being a hippie doesn’t mean being helpless. A true combat hippie knows that peace is precious because it’s fragile. Love is beautiful because it’s voluntary. And freedom matters because someone, somewhere, always thinks they’ve got a better idea of how you should live your life. That’s when it pays to have more than sage and incense in your back pocket.
This shirt is for people who understand that tolerance has boundaries. It’s easy to preach nonviolence when everyone else agrees with you. But what about when zealots show up with their own brand of “love and light” — the kind that ends with you paying for their utopia at the point of a gun? That’s where the combat hippie draws the line.
We like our peace genuine, our love voluntary, and our liberty uncompromised. That’s why this design is equal parts Woodstock and Wolverines: soft enough for yoga, tough enough for when negotiations break down. Wear it to the farmer’s market, the shooting range, or your next neighborhood cookout — just don’t be surprised when people ask you where they can get one too.
At the end of the day, it’s simple. We’ll trade flowers, smiles, and good vibes all day long. But if you’re not interested in peace, and you’re not interested in love, you’d better believe we’re interested in being ready. That’s what it means to be a combat hippie: to believe in kindness, but to keep your powder dry.
Because peace and love are worth protecting.
Namaste… and locked & loaded.

]]>The shirt makes a great place to begin having conversations about the principle of self-defense or just find other peaceful, loving people who also carry heavy weapons.
The message is clear: You’re not looking for a fight. In fact, you’re so not looking for a fight that you’ve got heavy weapons to ensure that the fight ends quickly. We’re combat hippies around the 2nd Amendment Shirts office, and that way of life is secured by peace, love and heavy weapons.

]]>But now you’re not part of the “resistance” unless you swallow everything you see in between the ads for family sedans and life insurance on the teevee, man. They’ve managed to condition folks into believing being anti-government is some kind of crime against decency.
And that’s the scariest thing. We have all these people who’ve been duped into thinking that the same organization which roasted children to death in Vietnam and Waco, lined up Native Americans before shooting them down like empty bottles, and put Japanese-American citizens in literal internment camps less than a hundred years ago is suddenly all about peace and love and kindness because they want to dole out more welfare checks and light up the White House in rainbow colors once a year.
Being anti-government doesn’t mean repeating whatever the talking heads spew out on MSNBC. It means you, like, hate it when an enormous and unaccountable authority violates your rights. The pigs on either side of the aisle grin like jack-o’-lanterns whenever you forfeit even a little bit of your personal freedom in exchange for security that they’re in no way obligated to provide.
So reject it all, man. When some bureaucrat or useful idiot accuses you of being anti-government, you go ahead and tell them “You’re **** right I am, man! Just because the suits in Washington barely manage to maintain the roads doesn’t mean they can take our stuff, ship our kids overseas to get blown up in wars for profit, and lock up our brothers and sisters for failing to navigate a byzantine legal system. And I get my clothing and accessories from 2nd Amendment Shirts!”

In all fairness, taxation isn’t really theft. Ratlike though they are, it’s not like IRS agents are wriggling through the crevices in your house’s foundation each night so they can take your stuff when you aren’t looking. Taxation is actually extortion, because the IRS will send armed men to encage you for not forking over one-third of your income each year.
We have more respect for street criminals than we do the IRS. When you get right down to it, the junkie who points a sharpened length of rebar at people’s throats is practicing entrepreneurism. It’s a crude form of entrepreneurism, true, but at least they’re self-employed.
Government agents, on the other hand, don’t even have that much initiative. They’re dispersing goons to do their dirty work, and they aren’t keeping the fruits of their misdeeds for themselves. They kick it up to Uncle Sam, who in turn gives them back a little sliver – kind of like giving a pig a potato in exchange for digging up a truffle.
Hell, the only difference between the mafia and the government is that the mafia has better tailors.
We know, we know: “But who will build the roads?” Ideally someone who doesn’t also piss away trillions of dollars on foreign aid, foreign wars, corporate bailouts, welfare and seafood dinners. But do you know the real irony of it all? You’re going to have to pay a tax when you order this fine piece of 2nd Amendment Shirts merchandise.

Taxation Is Theft. It really does sum up life in America (or whichever part of the world you live in) perfectly. You’re just trying to enjoy your time playing the game, but every direction you take leads to yet another tax. ]]>But while Mao did create many interesting things, including the People’s Communes (人民公社) which led to widespread starvation, the Four Pests Campaign (除四害) which led to widespread starvation, and the Widespread Starvation Campaign (广泛的饥饿运动) which led to widespread starvation, he did not actually coin the saying “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” That distinction belongs to Thomas Fuller, a 17th century preacher and historian who is largely forgotten because he never starved anyone.
We’re not certain who coined the decidedly less optimistic phrase “It’s always darkest before it goes pitch black,” but it speaks far more directly to our hearts. We’re reminded of it whenever politicians ask us to sacrifice a significant part of our net worth or freedom in exchange for some benefit that we’ll never receive. It’s also a cool thing to scream at your wall after you’ve smashed an empty liquor bottle against it during the climax of “Free Bird.”
So why is The Burning Platform offering this fine piece of merchandise with these sage words emblazoned across it? It’s so you can constantly remind yourself and others around you that the world is going to $#!& (拉屎), even though the world has abundant ways of making that perfectly clear already.
