We’ve all seen or read about the devastating fires in Los Angeles and even locally that have resulted in pet owners having to evacuate their homes and abandon their pets and if we are to avoid a similar situation, we need to be better prepared.

In our opinion, being properly prepared, working alongside empowered communities and forming strategic partnerships will go a long way towards preventing the impact when disaster strikes and, in this regard, we have never been better prepared and ready to respond.

Recently, our hospital team performed an emergency procedure to remove a rotting oxtail bone from a Boxer’s infected throat. Despite our efforts, Chase sadly passed away.

“All bones, regardless of size, pose a danger to dogs,” said AWS SA Spokesman Allan Perrins.

Bones can cause broken teeth, injuries to the mouth or tongue, or become lodged in the esophagus or stomach, often requiring surgery. In severe cases, they can be fatal.
Please don’t risk your dog’s health—skip the bones. It’s simply not worth it.
