Each challenge we get to see a wide array of creativity and interpretations of how to document a list. Not everyone is crafty or scrapbooky or wants to deal with piles of supplies. Each Lister comes up with their own method to make this simple challenge work for them. One Lister may use the opportunity to work on her sketching, while another is just going to commit to writing every day.

There is no wrong way to List. Whatever works best for you is the best way to do it.

Here are just a *few* examples of how Listers will be documenting over the next month. Maybe this will spark some ideas or inspiration for you for your own listing.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to REGISTER for the 30 Days of Lists challenge that starts today!

The following is a guest post from 30 Days of Lists Ambassador Kristin of rukristin papercrafts

Listing: How to list moreWe are listers. Once we embrace it, we can take it to the next level and achieve extraordinary things.

I was watching this show on TV the other day (Almost Human)  when listing made an unexpected and really awesome cameo.   The whole show is set in the future, where consumer technology has progressed to fascinating levels.  The main character came home and flipped on a button, turning on an enormous projected visualization in front of him, filled with virtual post-it notes grouped into categories and lists, tons of lists.

This really drove home to me that no matter how far into the future we project, lists are an essential part of who and what we are.  Looking in the other direction, some of the most ancient things found, scrolls and such, are rather mundane listings of things – contents of ships’ hulls, pyramid burial rooms and even many parts of the Dead Sea Scrolls.  Listing is eternal, necessary and, in many ways, cathartic.  You can’t just run around all day with so much information locked away in your head, especially if you want to convey it or share it with other people.

At the beginning of the year, I set out a group of intentions. This list was the result of a long time spent thinking, refining, and planning.  One of those intentions is to share my story and I knew that writing a big list – especially one that I’m choosing to share – will help keep me accountable to myself and to my friends.  My 29 Goals before I’m 29 is a year-long, extremely ambitions list that I have no doubt I will not be able to complete…but that’s the point!  I want to reach big and try to achieve and do as much as I can, and I want to have an easy way to share, track and update.  Lists are the key that will hold this whole unwieldy thing together – one big list and a whole bunch of smaller lists nested underneath it.

What I love most about being online is that it can really be anything you want it to be.  So it’s an amazing testament to Kam and Amy that 30 Days of Lists is surrounded by a thriving and supportive community on nearly every form of social media.  So I encourage you to not just play along, but share your list and your story.  There’s something brave in believing in what you have to say enough to put it down on paper, to let the ink seep in just the way you want it to.

We come together a couple of times a year and let Kam and Amy lead us on a month-long journey through thirty separate lists. We learn more about who we are, we learn more about who we were, and we learn more about who we want to become.  Storytelling doesn’t have to be perfect prose. We don’t have editors or English teachers standing over our back forcing us to take our thoughts and weave them into long-form essays with perfect sentence structure. The first step to telling your story is getting your ideas out on paper. Listing is the best way (for me) to do it. I don’t need to worry about the  burden of grammar, punctuation and all the stuff you’re ‘supposed’ to worry about when writing.

Be brave with 30 Days of Lists this March, and consider taking it a step further by exploring more of your own story through past rounds of 30 Days of Lists, pick up the bundle, or play along one round at a time.

Kristin is a millennial storyteller who loves documenting her everyday-life and awesome adventures. As the owner of rukristin papercrafts, a venue to share information and inspiration on creative ways to tell your story, she encourages others to dream big, find their voice, and be the author of their own adventure. An introvert who loves community, she loves meeting new friends online. Let her write you a thoughtful note or drop her a line on twitter or instagram.

Just a couple weeks ago we wrapped up our SIXTH listing challenge (September 2013’s challenge will be available soon as a self-paced product). Every single time we run 30 Days of Lists we get a bunch of requests for more listing, more challenges and more opportunities to journal together.

We are so excited to welcome back 3 #30Lists Ambassadors for September’s round of listing.

Read below what each lady has written about their own love of listing and be sure to click through to their lister page to connect with them on social media.

Kristin is a Lister:

30 Days of Lists - Ambassador Kristin

It’s an addiction. Embrace it and it becomes a way of life. Lists have the amazing ability to break down even the most complex ideas into tiny little parts so you can understand the details. Lists are simple to make, but have endless possibilities. Adding some art & design into the mix makes listing a hobby that is both productive and creative.

Creative lists are perfect for me — I’m equally right brained and left brained, so my logic side gets to have all the words written down in a neat format and my creative side gets to make that list really fun to write and look at.

My personal goal for this year is to write more and I’m excited that 30 Days of Lists will help me accomplish that goal. Writing doesn’t have to be in perfect prose, it doesn’t have to be long-form essays with perfect sentence structure. Writing is about getting your ideas out on paper, using the written word to communicate your thoughts. Listing is a great way to get your thoughts and ideas out on paper without the burden of grammar, punctuation, and all the stuff you’re ‘supposed’ to worry about when writing.

Join me and the rest of the #30Lists community this September as we once again take on the 30 Days of List challenge!

Megan is a Lister:

30 Days of Lists - Ambassador Megan

I make lists in my sleep–without them I would be truly lost. I use them for so many things in my life: I have lists to keep track of how quickly I need to use produce I pick up at the farmer’s market, projects I want to complete, and progress points I’ve met on my way to accomplishing goals. I keep them in notebooks, apps, whiteboards, and post-its. My lists are everywhere; without lists, I couldn’t do everything I do.

As much as I need lists to keep track of all of the ideas and to-dos floating around in my busy brain, lists aren’t only for functional purposes! They’re also great for creative writing, quick journaling, and easy memory keeping. 30 Days of Lists encompasses all of these valuable strengths of lists, and that’s why I’ve been a lister since I first learned about the 30 Days of Lists challenge in March of 2012. I love that the challenge is a great opportunity to write creatively and make lasting memories in a way that is a doable daily challenge for me as a busy mama.

Listing is fun, meaningful, and efficient, and I believe that’s what draws in such a wide and amazing community of listers. I love that 30 Days of Lists is not only about creating lists of my own, but is about waking up each of the 30 days with the opportunity to connect with the amazing people 30 Lists draws in. I love that the 30 Lists community is all about supporting each other, discovering a bit about other people’s lives, getting inspired by others’ creativity, and making new friends!

As much as I love interacting with the ever-growing 30 Days of Lists community, I really value my lists most because they are windows into my inner self. There are few tangible things I treasure more than awesome documentation of my family through photos and words. While I love memory keeping that focuses on my family as a whole as well as each of us individually, I look forward to the two times a year I’m challenged to document 30 lists that are all about ME! I know that bi-annually, I’m challenged to document fun things I’m currently loving, get introspective, evaluate my goals and dreams, and think of fun things I’ve never really considered before.

If you, like me, use lists to keep track of your life, you’ll love joining up for the challenge to use them creatively as well! There’s no easier way to have fun making lasting documentation you can share with new friends!

I love being a Lister!

Allie is a Lister:

30 Days of Lists - Ambassador Allie

I am a lister. I am a lister because I am in no way organized and lists keep my mind a little bit more under control.  I am a lister because my right side of my brain (the crazy, creative side with the million and two ideas) doesn’t always communicate with the left side of my brain (the side that reminds me of the responsibilities I have and the logical things that need to happen)… and lists serve as a little bit of a bridge between the two.

I am a lister because I’m a scrapbooker, and sharing my story and writing down my memories is so much easier in a list.  I’m the first to admit that I’m great with the “taking photos” part of scrapbooking… but not so great at the “recording the memories” that goes with it. Writing down quick lists of memories and items that go with the photos keeps my memories recorded and makes my journaling so much better.

I am a lister because of 30 Days of Lists.  #30lists have shown me that listing isn’t boring– it can be creative and fun and a great memory keeping tool. For two months every year, I have over 30 lists of random memories and snapshots from that period of my life.  Amazing.  Add in the amazing community that develops every time and an awesome and inspiring blog, and you know exactly why I look forward to every September and March.

I am a lister, and I love it! Won’t you join in this September?

September’s challenge is going to be a good one – we’ve chosen the prompts and invited the ambassadors (see below). We had 749 Listers join us in March 2013 (with even more grabbing the self-paced version afterward) and we’re hoping for even more to join the community this time around.

One question we get from new Listers is, “What exactly do I do with my lists?”

We created this challenge to be something you make your own — maybe you make a mini-album, include your lists in your Project Life layouts, Instagram your lists daily, or maybe you tuck them into your private journal…there is no wrong way to do 30 Days of Lists.

Amy shared a quick list of things Listers can do with their lists for our newsletter subscribers, and we’re going to share some of the ideas with you today. If you would like more exclusive #30Lists content, be sure to subscribe to the 30 Days of Lists newsletter.

Things to do with your LISTS:

  • Add one list weekly to your Project Life layouts. Those 3×4 pockets are the perfect size for a quickly jotted list of memories or things in your life
  • Blog your lists – daily, weekly, monthly. Put them out there and be amazed at how much your readers have in common with you.
  • Make a minibook or Blurb book full of your lists. Perfect format for kids or guests to flip through on the coffee table and bond over your list of favorite childhood memories.

Ready to get listing? Get 120 list ideas for one low price, or purchase individual challenges through our previous rounds page.

How do you share your lists?
