Baby Pygmy Goats

Two baby pygmy goats joined a loving 4-H family – and we were beyond blessed to enjoy their sweet and playful company. They were so tiny and we were surprised at how light they were to hold….. almost like they were full of air, not nearly as dense in weight as a puppy would be of the same size. As Chad was shooting one of them kept jumping up on his back as light as a feather barely feeling his little hooves. One of them decided to have a quick nap during the shoot and his little buddy just laid down and hung out, waiting for him to wake up again. These kids are going to have so much fun with their new goats and you can tell just how much they love them already.

Elijah

Elijah’s story is a miracle.

Andi was hiking up a Phoenix mountain and had reached the summit when she was confronted by a pit-bull mix. She was terrified due to a past experience….. however, she quickly noticed that this dog was brutally injured. He was bleeding from gun shots! Her instincts overcame her fear and she carried this 47 pound dog ALL the way back down the mountain by herself. It took about an hour and by the end he was barely moving. She called for medical help from AHS and her husband. After much care Elijah survived! Rather ironically, that very week fell the national Pit Bull Awareness Day. News crews and magazines flew across to country to interview their family and spread news about this amazing story.

They adopted him and called him ‘Elijah’ and is a beloved family member along with their other dogs.

As if that wasn’t amazing enough – years later, Andi’s husband Jason had been increasingly feeling the calling to work with rescues and AHS more deeply. His dream of being accepted into the Animal Cop and Animal Medical Technician crews has been fulfilled and he’ll be working with animals in dire need of help daily.

I had the honor of photographing Elijah on a mountaintop from which we could see the summit of where he was rescued from years ago.

After meeting Elijah and Jax – both pit bull mix rescues who have had challenges to overcome, our daughter (who wants to be a vet one day) declared that she wanted to have a farm with a pit-bull rescue……. and three pygmy goats.

Jax aka “Love Bug”

We saw photos on Facebook of our friend Tracy’s rescue pup Jax after he was rescued from a hideously abusive situation.

Jax was saved from being euthanized in December by E-List Angels and have been fostered by Tracy and her family since then. He needed a lot of love and 3-days of medical care in the animal hospital. It was suspected that Jax had been either attacked by dogs, possibly cats or other animals, perhaps sadly as a puppy entering the fighting dog world – maybe a ‘bait dog.’ Nobody knows for sure. What we can see is that poor Jax was literally covered in wounds and bite marks. We knew we just had to help in some small way!!!

Jax is an overcomer with a heart bursting with love.

You will see on his face tons of little white fur spots – these were at one time bite marks. They are a testimony of his strength and will to live.

This 45 lb. lab/pitt mix is a S W E E T H E A R T !! He loves laps, doesn’t bark hardly ever Tracy says (in our session, he didn’t bark either……….) he immediately greets and loves on every person in the family – stranger or otherwise.

Jax is incredibly well behaved – a great listener! In fact….. he very well could be one of our very best doggie models yet! Incredible patience, joyful spirit, a happy smile and attitude. You would offer him a piece of kibble and he was SO gentle – all you would feel, if anything, is a little fuzz from his muzzle!

From the first minute of meeting him as he jumped out of the truck he was loving and happy to meet me and my family. No barking, no over excitability or jumping up in the way that’s out of control. Rather – he dd what Tracy says he likes to do….. he gently reached up to give me a HUG. Really and truly. Wow.

It was our honor to spend time with him and his foster mom. Their relationship is beautiful and you can feel the trust and love between them. While Tracy is taking care of him temporarily, she is unable, sadly to keep him forever as she has three cats. Due to his sad start in life….. he requires a home with ZERO animals of any kind. He needs a human family that can love him up – and snuggle with him on the couch frequently. He’s a cuddly lapdog full of love. He loves all people – big, small, young and old. Tracy said that the pool guy doesn’t freak him out……. or anything! Just a happy boy looking out the window with curiosity. Tracy says that noises aren’t a bother to him – not even fireworks or motorcycles! Kids, skateboards, bikes….. not a bother either. Just no other animals in the home is the primary criteria.

We were thankful that we could capture a few moments at the end of their session of them hanging out and loving on each other. Our daughter said later that if she were older – and didn’t already have dogs – she wishes she could adopt him!

* Please note, in Jax’s outside photos that while you do not see a leash – however, he was on a lead or leash 100% of the time. While we have fun on our sessions, safety comes first! We don’t want to lose our furry friends to an exciting chase to catch a cotton-tail hopping nearby!!

Apache Helicopter Family Session

I had the rare opportunity of a lifetime to photograph an awesome military family on the tarmac Apache helicopters. It was just as awesome as you’re thinking it was. The O Family was SO fun to spend time with. First we photographed on the tarmac, then we moved to the hangar. The kids had such fun climbing around and putting on Dad’s HUD ! Then, we drove out to the desert where we could see the famous Picacho Peak that they love. The sun was so warm and amazing and the kids had fun playing amongst the brush. When it got dark they invited us over to their house for their annual Christmas Tree Bonfire, with hot dogs and s’mores! I took more photos there capturing the dancing embers and sticky faces. SUCH A GREAT TIME!! It’s an honor to get to know families with longer sessions like this. Thank you for serving our country!

C Family Session at McDowell Sonoran Preserve

The sweet C Family wanted to update their family photo for their ‘family photo wall’ and to send Christmas greetings overseas to relatives. We’ve had some moody rainy weather this month, so the third Sunday Afternoon attempt – was the charm and so worth the wait! This family has a great sense of joy and humor and the relationship between brother and sister shines through. Love them!

What a great time we had with the J family at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve! They brought along their giant Golden Doodle Thor – what a show stealer! LOVE HIM! They asked if they could bring their dog and we said – of course !! We absolutely love pets of any kind. We have two dogs and know that pets are truly a part of our family. This setting was gorgeous and just what they were looking for to showcase to their family in the North West from where they have recently moved from. Being from that area ourselves many years ago we know….. nothing is more different than the evergreen state than Arizona! The boys were relaxed and had fun, the love you see for their dog – and parents – is just beautiful. Here are a sampling of images from our session with this sweet and fun family.

Family Session in Phoenix

The B family wanted to update their family photos as they have a sweet new baby girl – well, she grew fast – more like toddler now! Home is where your family is comfortable – where you can relax and be yourselves. Use what you’ve got! Pool? Swings? Trampoline? Last summer we had the honor and privilege of helping AFHE with their student ID cards at the 2015 AFHE Homeschool Convention. We took professional student portraits of each student for free and coordinated sending the files to AFHE for their student ID fulfillment. They have asked us to come back for this year’s convention July 15-16, 2016!

If you haven’t heard of AFHE – they are Arizona Families for Home Education. They are a non-profit organization whose purpose is to inspire, promote, preserve and support all homeschooling families in Arizona.

This year the convention theme is: BE STRONG & COURAGEOUS

Awesome line up of exhibitors, speakers and workshops as always!

If you’re curious about homeschooling for high school or special needs they have a mini-conference on Thursday night, July 14th.

It was different being an exhibitor….. rather than just a homeschool parent wandering around the plethora of incredible vendor booths and laden with bags of information……. my wife did rather miss out on, well all….. of the speakers. I think this year we’ll consider buying the mp3’s. However, on the flip side it was AWESOME just chatting with moms and dads about their homeschooling experiences – things they saw on the floor that seemed new and interesting etc.

Loved meeting you all – and eager to see some familiar faces again this summer. Stop by and say HI !! I bet we’ll run another contest drawing…………. ;D
