Online access to the Urbana Newspapers from 1822-1930 is available online through the Digital Archives of the Champaign County Library. Microfilm of the newspapers from 1822 - 2024 are available at the library any time during business hours.

Available Now...History Archives. These archives provide free access to digital reproductions of historical newspapers, photographs, and documents, connecting people to the rich stories of the people, places, and events that define their community’s heritage. If you are familiar with the library's online newspaper database, you will appreciate this resource since it is from the same company.

Need help researching a Champaign County Family? We can help.

General assistance with the resources of the genealogy collection is provided; however, the Library does not trace complete family histories or conduct in-depth research for patrons. Requests for genealogical assistance may be requested in person, by telephone, mail, fax, or email. Please email any requests to reference@champaigncountylibrary.org There is no charge for information scanned and emailed. There is a charge for any hard copies sent.

FamilySearch Affiliate Library

The lending of microfilm from the Family History Center in Salt Lake City has been discontinued. You can find the digital images of select historical records on FamilySearch.org. Some items may require that you access it at a family history center or affiliate library and will display an error message when you try to access the site. ProQuest African American Heritage

Heritage Quest is available at the library and at home...HeritageQuest Online which provides access to 25,000 family and local histories, the complete U.S. Federal Census from 1790-1930, the Periodical Source Index (PERSI), and the Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files.

To access Heritage Quest from home, you must log in from the link located on the Champaign County Library's web page. You will be prompted for the barcode on your Champaign County Library card.
