It is important to maintain your battery during the winter months or periods of little use.

Always store the battery fully charged and ensure to fully charge the battery every 4-6 weeks.
Lithium Batteries
Lithium batteries should be left in a half-charged state during periods of non-use. To achieve a half-charged state, run the battery for your normal round and then charge it for 1.5 hours. The battery can now be left through the winter and remember to recharge it fully before using it again.
If you cannot leave the battery half charged (for example, during an unplanned absence from golf), storing it fully charged is the next best option. It is not recommended to leave an uncharged battery for extended periods of time, as this may reduce the potential maximum capacity. Please ensure that the charger is ALWAYS disconnected from the battery after charging.
Important Points:
- Never fully discharge your battery – it may never recover.
- Do not run your battery for more than the recommended holes.
So, here we are in 2019, and the same discussion is still being held. What should you choose, a Sealed Lead Acid or a Lithium golf trolley battery?

How to choose the best lithium battery

18-hole or 36-hole is a common question when it comes to choosing a lithium battery.
If you are a casual golfer an 18-hole battery is more than suitable for you needs; however, if you play frequently or want the flexibility of being able to play for longer than a 36-hole battery is more suitable.

Sealed Lead Acid batteries are still a popular economic and reliable option; however, they require more maintenance than their lithium counterparts.
How many holes do you play a week?
Golf batteries are defined by their Ah (amp hour) and by the number of holes they are suitable for.
SLA batteries are commonly: 18 Hole (20Ah), 27 Hole (26Ah) and 36 Hole (33Ah).

Battery Care: How to cycle your battery
The battery is supplied 80-90% charged. Make sure the battery is fully charged before using it. This should be a full 12-hour charge. You will not experience optimum performance from your battery until it has been used (cycled) 3-4 times.
Battery Care: Important Points
- Use only chargers designed for golf trolley equipment, not cars as these will not charge to the required voltage level.
- A charger over 5 years old and regularly used will not provide a consistent or adequate charge.
- Always keep your battery charged, do not fully discharge the battery as this may cause permanent damage.
- Try to use the battery regularly as storage/non-use will affect the battery life.
- Store at room temperature, not in extreme conditions, either hot, cold or wet/damp.
- Treat your battery with respect; do not short it in any way.
- Ensure that your trolley is kept in good condition; any undue load on the battery reduces its life. (I.e. worn motor brushes and a build-up of carbon deposits within the motor housing)
- Do not run the battery for more than the recommended number of holes.
- When using torberry connectors, please ensure that the red from your trolley is connected to the red from the battery and the same for the black terminals. Connecting red to black will damage your trolley.
- Unused batteries do lose efficiency, we recommend that you re-charge (as per the running-in procedure) at least once a month.
- The battery should be recharged after every use, regardless of the number of holes played.
- Please ensure that the strap or protector bag is fitted correctly prior to lifting.
Battery Care: Charging
VRLA batteries require a charging rate of 14.8 volts, reducing to 13.8 volts to complete its charge.
Please ensure that you connect black to the negative (-) and red to the positive (+).
Do not leave a battery connected to a charger with the power switched off. The battery MUST be disconnected from the charger or it will fully discharge the battery.
How to charge your battery when you’ve finished playing golf
We recommend charging the battery when you return from the course, when the battery is fully charged (minimum 12-hour charge), disconnect the battery from the charger and top-up the charge before you are due to play again. Leaving a battery on charge all the time can cause damage if the charger develops a fault and keeps charging. Electric storms and power cuts can also affect the performance of the charger.
