Professional photography was commissioned by Asia Poly with a brief to show the versatility of the product and the vast range of colours and effects. In order to portray these properties and to produce clean, contemporary design elements for use on the company’s website and in its literature, an abstraction of the A-Cast product name was designed with the letters a and c combined.

These branding elements were polished and formed from a single piece of the material and shot against a blue background using the product again, this time in its semi-finished sheet form.

Using a single telezoom reflector to control the light and show the colour and luminosity of the product, when shooting the fluorescent versions specifically, the edges had to really glow and not flare out. A good test for the photographer and the lighting set up alike, the camera position changed many times with the light set at around three to four feet above these small, fabricated elements. Even from that height the telezoom light shaping tool worked exceptionally well to produce either a balanced light across the whole plane or a small, tailored hotspot for a variety of different images.

Burnt out to bright white and perfectly formed around the product, the hotspot then fell off to black in the space of just 10 inches (see image above and the front cover of our fabrication guide), producing a spotlight much like you would see in a theatre. The resulting images certainly offer a sense of drama and we think, work well to show the A-Cast product in its best light.

Continuous development of new products for the sign and display market has resulted in the launch of A-Cast Black & White. As with all A-Cast products, Black & White has an inherent UV stability and weather resistance, making it suitable for use outdoors and in all environments.

Used in combination with a suitable strength light source, A-Cast Black & White creates a sign that delivers strong contrast at all times, day and night. From this one product, a sign can be constructed which appears black during the day and reverses to white, once illuminated at night. The intention is “to deliver maximum visibility 24/7” according to Asia Poly Commercial Manager, Chih Kang Tung.

“The product is at its most effective when box letter or brandmark signs are fabricated from the sheet with full face illumination from an LED or fluorescent light source” adds Tung. However, A-Cast Black & White can also be used to produce a simple animated effect by blocking the light source from parts of the sign face and illuminating the sign intermittently.

Whatever design is employed, applications using A-Cast Black & White assures the signage delivers maximum visibility and hence, maximum exposure 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Already well established and used extensively in the UK, this particular range includes two opals designed to deliver a diffused light output with a third, dense white offered for more decorative uses.

Of the light management products, a universal opal offers utility as well as decoration, providing a clean appearance during daylight hours and bright, even illumination at night. The second product, on the other hand, is optimised specifically for discrete, LED lighting applications such as poster light boxes where the product itself is not on view but needs to deliver the most efficient light output.

Asia Poly Industrial will use the K to garner attention for their wide range of A-Cast® cast acrylic sheet. The flagship clear sheet has a light transmission higher than any other thermoplastic and in excess of glass with virtually no colour bias.

Manufactured in Malaysia using the latest production technology, A-Cast® has long been known for colour as well as clarity in its indigenous markets. Now available throughout Europe, Asia Poly and its logistics partner welcome approaches from distributors to their stand; Hall 8B, Stand F76.

Commenting on their first appearance at the K, Yip Weng-Chuen, Senior Manager for Asia Poly, explains that “colour and quality are traits synonymous with A-Cast® in our local markets and with over 3,000 colours having been produced over close to 20 years, we are confident in supplying for any requirement”.

However, not content with simply displaying their standard offer, which as Yip attests “is anything but standard”, Asia Poly are also taking the opportunity to launch their edge-lit acrylic sheets that reflect and refract light across the surface to provide a bright, even illumination with no banding. These special edge-lit sheets can be used to great effect, creating slim, elegant lightbox structures for poster displays or simple, decorative panels.

Coupled with a range of different opal sheet options, both back-lit and edge-lit applications can be accommodated for sign and display, utilising either a fluorescent or LED light source.

It would seem that the future is bright for the development of A-Cast® acrylic sheet in Europe.
