The idea of developing a story around a woman fighter pilot was born in-house by Salona Bains Joshi, the Associate Producer on the project, and I backed it instantly. The complete music album of Sadak 2 was composed by an array of talented and accomplished composers such as Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Ankit Tiwari, Suniljeet, Samidh Mukherjee and Urvi. In these difficult times, music has been a constant companion to many and the pandemic has not driven away from the need for love and romance. Bringing the listeners just that, the record label drops the music album composed by the ensemble of gifted musicians.

The music album of the original Sadak was a huge success and quite fittingly the album of its sequel marks a confluence of the old world and new-age romance. Tum Se Hi is a love anthem composed by Ankit Tiwari, sung by him and Leena Bose and penned by Shabbir Ahmed. Ishq Kamaal composed by Suniljeet is a soulful celebration of love. It has been rendered in the divine voice of Javed Ali. Dil Ki Purani Sadak is a melancholic song composed by Samidh Mukherjee and Urvi, penned by Vijay Vijawatt. The composition has been created in three versions – two of which have been rendered by singers KK and the third one has been sung by Samidh Mukherjee. Composed by Jeet Gannguli, Shukriya is yet another beautiful track penned by Gannguli and Rashmi Virag. It is molded in three versions by singers Shreya Ghoshal, Jubin Nautiyal, and KK.

Sanujeet Bhujabal, Senior Director – Marketing, Sony Music India says, “In essence, the music of Sadak 2 is an ode to its antecedent. We often hear people say that they would like the golden era of music from Hindi films to be revived and so here we are offering listeners love songs that make for great repeat listens. As a matter of fact Shekhar Kapoor has hinted that he may take a legal recourse pertaining to the film’s announcement since he wasn’t involved in its conceptualization and subsequently the announcement. This is where certain members of the industry are wondering if the move would indeed be justified. Reason being that a long time back, he was actually devising an idea around Mr. India sequel.

The story goes that for almost three years, he was trying to put together the film as a creative producer in a joint venture production with Boney Kapoor, the producer of Mr. India and industry veteran Manmohan Shetty. Eventually, nothing really came out of it.

In fact unfortunate as it may sound Shekhar Kapoor’s stint with Bollywood has been impacted in several earlier instances as well. Though he is remembered most for Mr. India, Bandit Queen and of course Masoom, the last three decades have seen many of his films either getting stalled or wrapped up by other filmmakers due to creative differences or some other issues. Films like Joshilay and Barsaat had been kick-started by him, only for the producers to take over. On the other hand much hyped Time Machine with Aamir Khan was never made. Ditto with Sushant Singh Rajput’s Paani which was announced with much fanfare but the buck just stopped there.

Though there are other filmmakers in the industry as well who have had such instances of films not really managing to make it to theaters, for Shekhar Kapoor it has been one long wait as his last Hindi release was Bandit Queen which was released way back in 1994. Though there was an opportunity to finally make Mr. India, it never materialized either.

No wonder, the argument is that with Ali Abbas Zafar finally bringing his own take on Mr. India, and that too after a really long wait of over three decades since the release of the original, is it really worth it for anyone outside the producers to take up an issue about being consulted on the subject? After all, were something good to come out of all the deliberations over the years, it would have happened already!

This important agreement was signed this week at the India Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival 2019.

Both the parties have agreed to enter into an agreement with aim to primarily work together to share ideas and best practices on domestic and international film production, shooting and promotion and use their best endeavours to enable the seamless and most cost-effective use of local services and facilities with regard to securing agreements to film across the respective countries ́ agencies, organisations and Government authorities.

Truls Kontny, President of the European Film Commissioners Network states that “We wish to enhance our relationship with India and look forward to work with Producers Guild of India to facilitate further opportunities for dialogue and the creation of ideas, sharing of ideas and best practices for a forward thinking film production business. Hopefully this collaboration will also lead to more common content development and co-productions of TV-series and film projects between India and the European countries”

Kulmeet Makkar, Chief Executive Officer of Producers Guild of India says that “We are delighted to partner with European Film Commissioners Network. Indian content industry already has working relationships with many of the European countries and I am confident that this agreement will help further their relationship for the mutual benefit of the film production industries between India and European countries”.
