This summer, Andrew and Kevin are en route east to west driving their vintage camper van from Halifax to Vancouver Island, a full coast-to-coast odd-yssey, where Andrew has big van life plans for the future of this classic camper. In their wake, as a token of gratitude to the places they pass, the brothers are disguising and hiding treasure in the form of ten carefully-disguised beer kegs. It’s the first-ever Great Canadian Beer Hunt! Now, filling the kegs with actual beer would not be responsible, of course, so instead, the kegs each contain a gift certificate redeemable for merchandise at local participating craft breweries.
The brothers, along with the participating craft breweries, will be posting clues on social media that’ll leave a virtual bread crumb trail to where the kegs are hidden. Everybody is encouraged to document/film their hunts and the winners will be contacted to tell their stories. But first, in order to join the hunt, find the hidden kegs and be eligible to redeem the gift certificate inside, you must:

]]>This season, watch Brojects in a whole new way!
We’ve gone 360 with a series of six new virtual reality videos available on Cottage Life’s DIY YouTube channel and when you download our Brojects VR App (for iOS and Android) from the App Store and Google Play.
Shot ‘in the house’ at Great Village, each video features a 1 to 3 minute VR excerpt from one of the bros’ featured mini-builds, small-scale DIY projects that have been a staple of the Cottage Life DIY channel for the past three seasons.
Now, all this sounds really exciting you’re saying… but what the heck… this whole VR thing sounds a bit complicated.
Actually, it’s pretty simple… once you know how. Which is why we’ve put together this basic guide so that you can get the most from your Brojects VR experience.
Best to worst, here are our recommendations for watching VR video:
BEST — Brojects VR App
Free; available for smartphone (iOS and Android)
A Google Cardboard-compatible viewer is recommended but not required.
Download the free Brojects VR App from the App Store or from Google Play. Once installed, and as long as you have a Google Cardboard-compatible viewer with which to view the video, you can get a fully-interactive 360 degree video experience — as if you were standing ‘in the house’ with the boys.
If you don’t already have a Google Cardboard-compatible viewer, then you have a couple of options: The easiest and best way is to enter to receive a free Brojects Cardboard viewer. We’ll be giving away 50 right here on our website — keep your eyes peeled on our blog for more details in the days to come! As well, headsets will also be available through Cottage Life and several of our other promotional partners. Or, you can purchase your own Google Cardboard-compatible viewer. We recommend buying yours from Unofficial Cardboard. Their high-quality 2.0 Plus viewers are some of the best Google Cardboard-compatible viewers currently on the market, and why we chose them to make our custom Brojects viewers.
NEXT BEST — YouTube App
Free; available for smartphone (iOS and Android)
With or without Google Cardboard-compatible viewer
Download the free YouTube App for iOS from the App Store and for Android from Google Play. The Android version of the YouTube app includes a “Cardboard” option that allows you to view the VR video using a Google Cardboard-compatible viewers. In “Cardboard” mode, the screen is split into two identical images, side by side, one for each eye, giving you the best viewing experience.
The iOS version of the YouTube App does not have a “Cardboard” option. You still get the interactive 360 video experience but not the split screen, which allows for the more immersive experience. Panning and tilting functions are controlled by moving your smartphone up and down, and to the right and left.

NEXT, NEXT BEST — Google Chrome Browser
The Google Chrome Browser allows you to watch virtual reality videos from the desktop in 4K (Ultra HD), using a keypad-style VR control interface, similar to Google Maps. Click left and the camera pans left, click up and the camera looks up.
NEXT, NEXT, NEXT BEST — The latest versions of the Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer Browsers
Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer work the same but you can’t get 4K Ultra HD video resolution as with the Google Chrome Browser (maximum resolution is HD).
NOT RECOMMENDED — Safari Browser
Safari doesn’t work for VR at all. Users on Safari will just get a weird flat image that shows all 360 degrees in a flat image. In other words, the video in Safari will look like a flat atlas, whereas in Google Chrome or Firefox it will look like a globe.
The Brojects VR Experience is brought to you by Farmhouse Productions, Bell Fund, Cottage Life and Blue Ant Media.

]]>There’s a lot more to see this inaugural season of Brojects: In The House! We’ve gone 360 with six new virtual reality videos that take you right ‘inside the house’ with the bros. Each virtual reality video features a 1 to 3 minute scene, typically an expanded version of a key moment from one of our zany mini-build webisodes.
Watch the first webisode now on Cottage Life’s DIY YouTube channel or by downloading the free Brojects VR App (for iOS and Android) from the App Store and Google Play.
First up is “RamBRO (or How To Take Down an RC Copter)”. In this webisode, the boys invent a game in which Andrew has to take down Kevin’s RC chopper before he can airlift the damsel in distress to safety. To do this, Andrew builds an anti-aircraft weapon from an old cross-country ski and some bungee cords that utilizes wine corks as ammo.
In the VR excerpt, you can follow the RC chopper around the room as Andrew attempts to shoot it down with his anti-aircraft ski. Sweet!
You can also ‘watch along‘ with Kevin direct from his ‘zen’ sleeping pod. Get the full 360 degree Kevin ‘experience’ (including intrusions from Andrew who as you know can be more than a bit of a pest).
All six VR videos can be viewed on the desktop or with your smartphone (with our without a Google Cardboard-style viewer). For details on how to watch Brojects‘ new virtual reality videos, follow the link.
The Brojects VR Experience is brought to you by Farmhouse Productions, Bell Fund, Cottage Life and Blue Ant Media.

September 8, 2015 [Toronto, ON] — After two seasons battling blackflies, bears and the odd spring blizzard, Andrew and Kevin Buckles, the creative duo behind the Cottage Life series, Brojects, bring the cottage indoors with Brojects: In The House, a new 13-episode half-hour series featuring more of what the ‘bros’ do best — turning traditional home and cottage projects on their head.
This time, the real-life brothers transform a former Masonic Lodge into the ultimate escape destination, complete with an indoor outhouse, a bike bar and a retractable sleeping platform — just to mention a few of the projects they have planned.
“We aren’t just building a weekend getaway,” says Andrew Buckles. “We’re creating the ultimate MANtuary!”
Among the one-of-a-kind concepts currently under construction at the former Lodge is an indoor skatepark, which features two quarter-pipes at the opposite ends of the living room area that can be turned upside down, creating a domed sleeping area below and a top bunk above.
“With limited indoor real estate, we couldn’t afford to have the entire area devoted to skateboarding,” jokes Kevin Buckles.
Now in its third season, Brojects has been an unqualified success for Cottage Life and its distribution arm, Blue Ant International. Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. recently announced that the series will make its U.S. television premiere this fall on Great American Country as Lake Guys.
“Brojects provided our audiences with a fun and energetic take on DIY at the Cottage,” said Marcia Martin, SVP, Original Content, Blue Ant Media. “Brojects: in the House will allow our viewers to continue the fun indoors in this new spinoff series.”
Brojects: In The House launches Spring 2016 on Cottage Life. Principal photography began June 29, 2015 in Great Village, Nova Scotia.
Brojects: In The House is produced by Farmhouse Productions Inc. The series was created by Kent Sobey and Andrew Buckles; producers are Kent Sobey, Andrew Buckles, Howard Ng and Kevin Buckles.
