New Delhi, June 9: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday regarding the colonies located in the O-Zone area. The meeting revealed that there will be no demolition actions on old constructions in these colonies, as approved by the High Court for the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

Present at the meeting were Northeast Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Yamuna Par Development Area Board Chairman and MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely, along with Delhi government‘s Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khairwar, and senior officials from the DDA and related departments.

The Chief Minister was informed that there are approximately 91 unauthorized colonies and a dozen old villages in the O-Zone area, housing around 1.5 million residents. Concerns were raised that the notice boards placed by the government have created anxiety among the residents. The representatives noted that their study of the High Court’s orders and government records indicated that there is no threat to the old constructions in these colonies. The orders pertain only to demolishing new or ongoing constructions.

The representatives also highlighted the confusion caused by the notice boards in the O-Zone colonies and expressed that certain elements are instilling fear among the residents while simultaneously carrying out illegal constructions. They demanded solid measures to protect the Yamuna floodplain from unauthorized constructions. The representatives stated that they have no objection to a complete ban on new constructions in the O-Zone area.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta sought clarification from senior DDA officials on this matter. She pointed out that the High Court did not comment on completed constructions but raised questions about ongoing projects.

The Chief Minister emphasized that since the court has responded to the DDA on this matter, it should comply accordingly. She plans to meet with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal soon to discuss the issue with the representatives. She also instructed DDA officials to revise the language of the boards in the O-Zone area, in line with the High Court’s recommendations, to prevent any panic among the residents of the colonies.

New Delhi, June 9: A recent report indicates that 60% of employers in India plan to make new hires in the third quarter of 2026 (July-September), while 29% intend to maintain their current staffing levels. This information was released in a report on Tuesday.

According to the ManpowerGroup report, the net employment outlook (NEO) for the July-September period stands at 48%, the highest globally.

The report further states that 11% of employers plan to cut jobs during the review period, while 1% remain uncertain about their hiring plans.

Sandeep Gulati, Managing Director of ManpowerGroup India and the Middle East, stated, “India’s hiring outlook for the third quarter of 2026 remains the strongest worldwide. This demonstrates that despite challenging business conditions, investor confidence in the country’s growth trajectory persists.”

He added that the decrease compared to the previous quarter reflects a more cautious and thoughtful approach to hiring rather than a decline in business confidence.

Gulati noted that robust activity in the manufacturing and services sectors, along with the continuous expansion of global capability centers, is sustaining job demand.

However, employers are facing challenges such as AI-based workforce optimization, decreased demand for entry-level hiring, global trade uncertainties, and geopolitical events that are impacting supply chains and business costs.

Sector-wise, the survey revealed that hiring expectations weakened in eight out of nine sectors on a quarterly basis. The trade and logistics sector experienced the most significant decline in hiring expectations, followed by the public sector, health and social services, and the information sector.

The hospitality sector was the only one to show an improvement in hiring expectations compared to the previous quarter.

The report identified communication and collaboration skills as the most essential capabilities, followed by problem-solving, time management, and strong work ethics.

According to the report, over 84% of employers are willing to pay more for AI-related skills, which include AI model and application development as well as AI literacy.

Karnal, June 9: Nurses at the District Civil Hospital in Karnal staged a two-hour strike on Tuesday, demanding the dismissal of Renu Bhatia, the Chairperson of the Haryana Women’s Commission. The striking nurses also called for strict action against a doctor accused of misconduct with a minor.

The incident that triggered the protests occurred recently at the LNGP Government Hospital in Kurukshetra, where a doctor was arrested for alleged wrongdoing involving a young girl. Following this, Renu Bhatia visited the hospital and reprimanded the nurses present, questioning their absence during the incident and why the girl was left alone with the doctor. This has intensified the issue in Haryana, leading to the nurses’ strike in Karnal.

Staff nurse Bharti stated, “Today we held a two-hour strike. If the government does not take our demands seriously, we will escalate our protest.” She emphasized that the Chairperson made baseless accusations against them, labeling them as culprits without any investigation.

Urmila, another nurse, expressed, “We will not tolerate this. Today’s strike was just a warning. If Renu Bhatia is not dismissed, we will consider further actions in consultation with our Haryana organization.”

Pyongyang, June 9: North Korea and China have committed to elevating their relationship to new heights, agreeing to enhance cooperation in political, economic, and cultural sectors. This agreement was reached during a summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Pyongyang. Notably, there was no discussion regarding North Korea’s nuclear program. Prior to Xi’s visit, Kim had stated that his country would not abandon its nuclear status under any circumstances and would not tolerate threats.

Xi Jinping was warmly welcomed in Pyongyang during his first state visit in seven years, which took place on June 8-9. Both leaders described this meeting as a new chapter in bilateral relations, emphasizing the need for strengthened high-level contacts and strategic dialogue in the future.

According to North Korea’s state news agency KCNA, as reported by Yonhap News Agency, both nations pledged to continue supporting each other’s sovereignty, security, and developmental interests. Berlin, June 9: Shafi Burfat, Chairman of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSM), has appealed to India and the global community to raise their voices against the brutality and fascism perpetrated by the Pakistani army in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), Sindh, and other regions. Burfat urged nations, including India, to support the fight for freedom and dignity of the people residing in POK.

This appeal comes in the wake of a clash on June 7 in the Rawalkot area of POK, where seven civilians were reported killed during protests by the newly banned Joint Action Committee (JAC), according to a report by the Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

Burfat condemned the open cruelty, fascism, and crimes against innocent people in POK by the Pakistani military and intelligence agencies. He called upon the United Nations, India, Europe, the UK, the Middle East, East Asia, Africa, Central Asia, and all civilized nations to immediately address the genocide, human rights violations, and state-sponsored atrocities occurring in POK.

The Sindhi leader accused the Pakistani military of conducting a campaign of oppression and bloodshed against the general populace throughout POK. He specifically appealed to India, the world’s largest democracy, and international democratic institutions to intervene and assist in protecting the people from Pakistan’s tyranny, occupation, slavery, and fascist rule.

Burfat alleged that the Pakistani military has descended into open dictatorship, fascism, and cruelty. Chennai, June 9: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall in ten districts of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, the centre has warned that the weather conditions may become uncomfortable in several parts of the state due to above-normal temperatures and high humidity.

According to the weather department, an ‘upper-air trough’ extending from coastal Karnataka to coastal Andhra Pradesh is present at an altitude of 3.1 to 4.5 kilometers above sea level. This weather system is expected to increase rainfall in some areas of Tamil Nadu during the daytime.

The RMC has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching up to 50 km/h in hilly areas of Tirunelveli district, as well as in Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Kanyakumari, Dharmapuri, Salem, and Erode districts. Additionally, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is likely in some areas of Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chennai, and Chengalpattu districts.

Weather department officials have advised residents in these areas to exercise caution during thunderstorms and to avoid going outside unnecessarily during heavy rain and lightning.

While rainfall is expected in several districts, the weather department has also indicated that heat and humidity will persist in some parts of the state. In certain areas, maximum temperatures are anticipated to be up to 3 degrees Celsius above normal.

The combination of high temperatures and increased humidity may lead to heat-related discomfort, particularly during the afternoon. This forecast comes a day after severe heat was recorded in many parts of Tamil Nadu, with temperatures exceeding 37.7 degrees Celsius at nine weather stations across the state.

The highest temperature recorded was approximately 39.4 degrees Celsius at Meenambakkam in Chennai, indicating that the effects of heat are likely to continue despite the arrival of the rain-bringing weather system.

Meteorologists have noted that such conditions are common during transitional weather periods when high daytime temperatures coincide with local thunderstorms.

Officials have advised the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and high winds. The weather department is closely monitoring the changing weather conditions and urges residents to follow official forecasts and advisories for updates.

Muscat, June 8: The Indian Embassy in Muscat has confirmed the rescue of 24 Indian crew members aboard the MT Maryvex following a fire incident south of the Strait of Hormuz. The embassy expressed gratitude to Omani authorities for their swift response.

In a post on the social media platform X, the embassy stated, “We are thankful to the Omani authorities for their quick response in rescuing all 24 Indian crew members aboard the MT Maryvex and ensuring their safety.”

Earlier, during an inter-ministerial briefing, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MOPSW) reported that the fire was reported around 1:30 PM on Monday.

According to a ministry spokesperson, “This is the preliminary information we have received. Based on the available information, all Indian crew members are currently safe.”

Omesh Kumar Sharma, Director of the Shipping Department, mentioned, “We are trying to ascertain whether there was any projectile involved. As you know, the fire incident occurred at 1:30 PM.”

He added, “We are in contact with the owners and are trying to get to the truth. We are also in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and our mission in Oman.”

The Indian Embassy in Oman stated on social media that the mission is investigating the ship-related incident involving Indian crew members and is coordinating with Omani authorities for their rescue and safety.

The Shipping Ministry is working with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad, and the Indian Navy and Ministry of Defence to ensure the safety of the sailors. The ship was well out of the Strait of Hormuz and was in ballast condition, meaning it was not carrying any cargo. He stated that protecting children and youth from substance abuse must take precedence over profits for commercial establishments. The rule is clear: no entry without identification. Strict actions will be taken against any establishment that assists minors in consuming alcohol.

Kharge appealed to parents, teachers, citizens, and establishment owners to cooperate with the police. An official statement from his office referenced recent research conducted on 4,093 students from four pre-university courses, graduate colleges, and higher secondary classes in Bengaluru. The study revealed that one in three teenagers in the city is at risk of health issues due to alcohol or tobacco use.

Conducted by researchers from St. John’s Medical College, Christ University in Bengaluru, and Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, the study found that 33% of the surveyed youth consumed alcohol, while nearly 18% were addicted to tobacco. These figures are significantly higher than the national rates of 8.7% for tobacco use and 7.9% for alcohol consumption, as well as the reported rates in Karnataka of 4.7% for tobacco and 8.5% for alcohol.

Additionally, the average age for starting alcohol consumption among Bengaluru’s teenagers was reported to be 17 years, with some indicating exposure as early as 8 years old. In light of these findings, the Home Minister instructed the police to regard underage drinking not merely as a licensing violation but as a serious concern for youth safety and public health.
