Wayne McMahon – Athlete-Builder – Athletics

A physical education teacher by trade, McMahon has spent more than 50 years leveraging his talents and knowledge to build up generations of Manitoban track and field athletes. A Sport Manitoba Coach of the Year, four-time winner of the Athletics Manitoba Coach of the Year, and recipient of Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee Medal, Wayne McMahon has been steadfast in helping Manitoba athletics run – in every sense of the word.
The following is an excerpt from the Sport Manitoba News Release
July 20, 2026 (WINNIPEG, MB) – On behalf of our Board of Directors and Selection Committee, the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame is excited to announce the Class of 2026.

Athletics Manitoba also advises all clubs, coaches and training groups to cancel training sessions for the day.
Athletics Manitoba does not sanction any activities that occur in conditions above 41 degrees (with the humidex) as per the policy linked above. Any sessions that take place are at your own risk and MUST take into consideration access to shade and water.
If the forecast changes throughout the day and temperatures drop below “extreme” conditions, groups may elect to train – however coaches are still strongly advised to plan accordingly and modify or postpone sessions.
The team will be heading to Regina, SK and competition will start on August 7th!
Congratulations athletes and best of luck!

Some of Western Canada’s best road runners will compete in an exciting Road Mile on a new, flat and fast course.
Good luck to everyone competing this weekend!
