The Evolution of Education

As a high school history teacher in South Bronx, I get to work with kids with social, emotional, economic as well as family challenges on a daily basis. For a while, I felt helpless in helping some of these kids with their challenges.

However, it dawned on me two years ago, when I saw a cheerful 18 year senior sliding deeply into darkness, that I could do something. As I watched this child day after day with a frown on her face and putting her head down, I could not help but wonder what could possibly be wrong. As it turned out, she was kicked out of the house by her mom.
