2025

The four Starbucks holiday cups for 2025 feature plaid and bow patterns in red and green, but the most popular cup that was created was the bearista cup that could be purchased for $30, and sold out insanely fast when it made its debut.

“The excitement for our merchandise exceeded even our biggest expectations," Starbucks told People in a November statement. "Despite shipping more Bearista cups to coffeehouses than almost any other merchandise item this holiday season, the Bearista cup and some other items sold out fast."

2024

In 2024, the theme for the cups was “Merrier Together.” Starbucks embraced groovy, retro-inspired designs incorporating mint green, pink, white, and red. In addition to these designs, the cups also featured cozy charms that look like old-fashioned holiday ornaments or peppermints.

2023

The cups created in 2023 were inspired by the theme “Share the Joy,” each featuring sparkles and bright magenta. Each cup included designs of Ribbon Spool, Bauble Wrap, Peppermint Swirl or Party Plaid

"When we were looking at trends when designing this year’s holiday, we kept seeing bright, bold, uplifting colors,” said Kristy Cameron, creative director at Starbucks. “We found that magenta alongside the holiday reds and greens lifts the traditional holiday colors and makes the red look even brighter.”

2022

To spark that holiday joy, the designers used signature motifs, including sparkles, ornaments and snowflakes, and pops of color to create a warm and cozy sensation caffeine fans love. The four holiday options customers were given were: Gift-Wrapped Magic, Frosted Sparkle, Ornament Wonder and Cozy Evergreen.

2021

These cups were crafted in classic shades of red, green and white with hints of frosty lilac, and featured arguably Starbucks' most sentimental move as each one contained little gift tags to create room for a cheerful message.

"This holiday, we wanted it to feel magical, we wanted it to be warm, and we wanted it to be inclusive," Starbucks associate creative director Suzie Reecer shared. "Our goal was to really bring joy to every customer and every partner."

2020

Ribbon, Dot, Sparkle and Brand Wrap were the four main designs for the brand's 2020 theme "Carry the Merry." The design process for the 2020 holiday cups involved wrapping ribbons similar to washi tape around cups, according to Starbucks.

The annual arrival of Starbucks holiday cups is a highly anticipated tradition that signals the start of the holiday season for many customers.

About three quarters of the Jamaican island was left without power and under water, after Category 5 storm “Hurricane Melissa” hit the island. As wind and rain struck the island through the night, one official told BBC News the destruction resembled "the scene of an apocalypse movie."

Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm to strike Jamaica in modern history, sped across the country on October 28, leaving the island devastated. At its peak, the hurricane sustained winds of 298 km/h (185 mph) – stronger than Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005 and killed 1,392 people. Melissa is also the strongest hurricane recorded this late in a hurricane season.

There have been a total of At least 29 deaths and 10 people missing in Haiti, A minimum of eight deaths have been confirmed in Jamaica, Four people have been reported dead in the Dominican Republic, and three deaths from flooding and landslides in Panama. Despite widespread destruction, authorities have not yet reported any deaths in Cuba, largely due to successful evacuation efforts.

Images showed cars almost completely submerged as visitors staying at the hotel were forced to evacuate their rooms to the hotel's ballroom to wait out the storm after it made a historic landfall. Melissa was a Category 5 for 36 hours — the longest previously was 18 hours.

In Jamaica, the storm caused mudslides, and palm tree fronds to be thrown across the island. Melissa moved north to Cuba as a category three storm, bringing 115 mph winds and heavy rain, and pounding the south-east of the island.

Hurricane Melissa caused significant material damage in Santiago de Cuba, the island’s second-most populated province. Melissa hit Cuba on Wednesday October 29, and later, the Bahamas. In Cuba, officials reported collapsed houses, blocked mountain roads and roofs blown off buildings Wednesday, with the heaviest destruction concentrated in the southwest and northwest. Authorities said about 735,000 people remained in shelters.

The storm also damaged crops such as coffee beans and yuca, blew over trees and poles, and affected communication services. Other eastern provinces of Cuba also reported damage to facilities such as hospitals and schools, as well as flooded streets and houses.

How Did Melissa Become So Dangerous?

A hurricane forms when warm, moist air rises from the ocean surface and creates a spinning system of clouds and storms. In the centre, air sinks, creating the eye, a calm, cloud-free zone surrounded by a wall of violent winds and rain known as the eye-wall.

Melissa's origins traced back to a cluster of thunderstorms off the coast of West Africa in mid-October. By October 21, it had reached tropical storm strength and by 26 October, it was a Category 4 beast churning through the Caribbean Sea.

Ocean temperatures in the Caribbean are unusually high this year and hurricanes feed off that warm layer of water. Those conditions allowed Melissa to intensify quickly.

"The ocean is warmer and the atmosphere is warmer and moister because of [climate change]," Brian McNoldy told BBC News.

While the wind speed was staggeringly high, the storm's movement was notably slow. Melissa itself was moving westward at around 5km/h on October 28, which is slower than a person's walking pace.

“Parents’ Bill of Rights” requires school administrators and teachers to let parents of students know about school materials and content that reference or talk about sexual orientations ahead of being taught. This makes it so parents are able to request alternative instruction or request their student not be taught the material.

However, the bill specifies that kindergarten through third grade may not be taught or shown anything that has references to sexuality content. The bill defines ‘sexuality content’ to be, “oral or written instruction, presentation, image, or description of sexual concepts or gender ideology provided in a classroom setting.” Groups opposing H.B. 8 worry that this definition makes it unable for students of same-sex or transgender couples to talk about or freely express their home life.

The Bill also mandates that teachers and staff notify parents if a student identifies as transgender, non gender-conforming, or under the queer umbrella. The bill says this is to protect parents’ rights, “The policy shall specify that notice to parents shall reinforce the fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding the upbringing and control of their children, and that the school district shall not inhibit parental access to the student’s education and health records maintained by the school.”

The House Bill also requires schools in Ohio to have religious release time for students, allowing them to leave during school hours for religious practices. Previously, schools in Ohio had to have a policy regarding religious release time, H.B. 8 makes this mandated.

Schools are required to provide public transportation for students involved in religious release time. However, the bill specifies that students are still assumed responsibility for schoolwork or instruction missed.

“The bill sets a dangerous precedent for censorship in our classrooms. Education should foster an environment of critical thinking, inclusivity, and acceptance, where students are encouraged to learn about the diverse world they live in. By limiting the topics that can be discussed, this bill essentially stifles open dialogue and the opportunity for students to develop a well-rounded, respectful understanding of different perspectives,” American Government teacher Tony Schoonover commented.
House Bill 8 is a lot more than limiting topics in the classroom, it’s outright censoring an environment that teaches inclusivity and diversity. Education and schools are about fostering and nurturing not only children—but adults into well-rounded people; people who are able to understand and be empathetic towards others with differences or different values, lifestyles, and viewpoints. Ultimately, by limiting what both students and teachers are able to discuss in the classroom can make it difficult for students to have a proper understanding of the world around them, censoring what should be talked or not talked about – leading more unnecessary things to be considered ‘taboo’.
LGBTQ+ activists opposing the bill have pointed out that the bill makes schools unsafe for children who identify under the LGBTQ+. Teachers and staff publicly outing students who identify as such to their parents, who may or may not be aware that their children are LGBTQ+; risking students feeling unsafe at home.

“Moreover, it places an undue burden on teachers, forcing them into self-censorship, and limiting teachers’ ability to effectively address sensitive but important issues that are relevant to students’ lives and society as a whole,” Schoonover continued.

One of the concerns of the bill is the unnecessary censorship in the school space. The bill limits topics that teachers should rightfully be allowed to discuss, especially when these topics relate directly to the student body.

The bill is expected to take into effect immediately for the 2025-2026 school year. Schools, cities, local and exempted villages have until July 2025 to comply and make a policy upheld by the bill. H.B. 8’s purpose is to protect children from sexual abuse content and to keep parent’s in control of their children’s education and upbringing. The bill also ensures that students are learning content that is developmentally appropriate.

Trump appeared virtually in a Manhattan courtroom on Friday, January 10, 2025 for his sentencing on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal a payment to an adult film star, Stormy Daniels. The accusation claimed that Trump was a part of an illegal conspiracy to undermine the integrity of the 2016 election.

During the brief hearing, New York state Judge Juan Merchan said the only lawful sentence that does not encroach on the office of the president is that of an unconditional discharge on all counts. Merchan told the court that "this has been a truly extraordinary case.” Once the courtroom doors closed, the trial itself had been in his estimation no more special or unique than any other.
Merchan told Trump; "because of the office you once occupied and will soon occupy again." He stated that it was the legal protections afforded to the office of the president that were extraordinary, "not the occupant of the office."
Donald Trump is the first former, future, or sitting U.S. president that has been tried on criminal charges. This is the first one of Trump’s criminal cases has seen trial. The 34 charges against him are considered class E felonies, which are the lowest level of a felony in New York law. CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig said most Class E felony convictions result in non-prison sentences, but are typically a combination of probation, fines and community service.
"It certainly makes sense that there be some finality to this case because as a nation, we should want to move on, in particular as he assumes the role of president, and be able to look forward to the next four years without this sentence pending, there has to be an end." Anna Cominsky, director of the criminal defense clinic at New York Law School told BBC News.

Lewis was then held on a 50,000 bond following a disruptive entrance in court in Indianapolis on Tuesday January 14. During Lewis’s hearing he made multiple outbursts such as “Guilty as charged”, “Im free” and, “ I guess you guys got the wrong guy.” When asked by the court it was stated that Lewis suffers from mental illness, Lewis then responded with “I need my medicines.”

Although Lewis did not hire an attorney. Davis assigned him a public defender who entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf. She ordered him to stay away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse where the fever played games from Butler basketball arena Hinkle Fieldhouse. Clarks boyfriend Conner Mcafferey is an assistant coach at Butler.

“I don't want bond, bail, whatever,” Lewis then told the court he has no intentions of posting bond he stated, “I'm here. I'm staying.”

Prosecutors said they were seeking a higher than standard bond since Lewis traveled from his home in texas to indianapolis “with intent to be in close proximity to the victim” Lewis was held on a 50,000 bond and if his bond is posted hr will be required to wear an ankle monitor and remain in Indiana. The court also filed a not guilty plea on Lewis' behalf, Judge Angela Davis suggested Lewis ‘remain silent’ in jail and only speak with his attorney.

Police records show that Lewis was charged with level 5 felony and could face up to 6 years in prison and a 10,000 fine. In court Lewis stated that he lives in his vehicle, which he also drove to Indianapolis. Lewis was then apprehended at an Indianapolis hotel after posting multiple explicit messages on social media and tagging Clark in the caption.

Representative Heather Scott was the one to propose this idea. She said that the decision in 2015 to legalize same-sex marriage was “illegitimate overreach” and that the court should reinstate the “natural definition of marriage” saying that it should only be between a man and women. Another part of this argument is that since states hand out marriage certificates than the states should have the power to deny wed same-sex marriage couples.

“I feel like this isn’t fair to anyone at all, people deserve to be able to get married without others caring about what they do or what gender or sexuality they are,” junior Elise Davis stated.

If the Supreme Court were to overrule Obergefell, it would likely not affect the “Respect for Marriage Act” that established federal protections for all marriages regardless of race, religion, or sex in 2022. However the act does not require states to uphold such protections and if Obergefell v. Hodges was overturned, dozens of states would automatically revert to anti-marriage statutes.

The latest polls on marriage equality, which were published in 2023, shows that 69 percent of Americans believe that same-sex marriages should be legal. In 2022 was the peak when 71 percent were supportive of same-sex marriage within the country. When polls released in 2024 slightly fewer Americans were supportive putting the number at 64 percent and saying it is “morally acceptable” suggesting that they felt the legalization was fine but didn’t personally like it, which was all stated by Newsweek.

“It would create a snowball effect of states repealing the act,” junior Quill Reyonlds states.“It just makes me wonder where it would be safe.”

This ask from the committee has caused panic in many people in the LGBTQ+ community. A concern from some people feel that if Obergefell v. Hodges is overturned others will become depressed and they feel that this will cause suicides to increase exponentally due to lack of resources and care from people in the community, the state and the country.

Because the levy failed in November, the district needs to cut $6,090,000 in order to continue operating. In order to keep from having to make more cuts in the coming years, a one-percent earned income tax levy will be on the ballot on May 6, 2025.

By cutting more than 43 teachers, the district is set to save over 3.5 million dollars, more than half of the total amount the district needs to continue current operations. The board expressed that the hope would be that the majority of these positions would be removed via attrition. Teachers will likely also be cut by the removal of programs, which in the event of budgeting are often electives. The removal of classes would have a trickle effect as teachers with higher seniority are moved and those who have been at the school for less time will move on.

Another item on the slide presented at the board meeting was a pay-to-participate policy for extracurriculars. This would mean that all outside of school activities from football to clubs would require a fee to take part in. Though money is generated by sports, they are still costly. Extracurricular activities boost student engagement and help to create a sense of community along with helping students find friends. This policy may prohibit lower income students from engaging in these activities, as previously sports were free or had a small fee for things like uniforms.

Social media is the source of a lot of misinformation. The truth about the funding of our district, as with many other things, has been clouded by misleading posts on platforms like Facebook. Despite what some people may be posting, the Findlay City Schools district is one of the lowest funded schools per pupil and spends more of their budget than most other schools on instruction.

Most of these cuts affect the most vulnerable students, those without opportunities or transportation that others have, and now they will be left with less than before. By making getting to school more difficult and participating in sports paywalled, there is likely going to be less engagement in school activities. To prevent further opportunities from being taken away from our students, the levy in May will need to be passed.

He was a part of Eaton fires. His house is one of that stayed noninflamed from keeping it saturated. He was evacuated for several days ranging from 4 to 7 days. His family of four had a very unexpected incident happen to them and it would affect them greatly throughout the next few months or so multiple businesses were destroyed from these consecutive fires in the surrounding areas. Fifty-five percent of the Eaton fire was contained on January 16, 2025 at 10:35 am. Areas surrounding that caught fire are palisades fire, hurst fire, auto fire, and little mountain fire.

The Palisades Fire had 23,713 acres smoldered, 18 percent of the fire was contained. The location of the first area Southeast of Palisades Drive, Pacific Palisades. Started January 7, 2025 at 10:30am till January 14, 2025 at 8:58pm causes under investigation.

The Hurst Fire had 799 acres caught aflame, 97 percent of the Fire suppressed. The direction of the starting location is Diamond Road,Sylmar California. Begins January 7, 2025 at 10:29pm till January 13, 2025 at 6:27pm causes under investigation.

The Auto fire possessed 61 acres kindled, 85 percent absorbed, located near Auto Center Drive, Ventura California January 13, 2025 9:25 pm January 15, 2025 5:33 pm cause under investigation.

The Little Mountain fire was only 34 acres it was a hundred percent contained, Near little mountain drive San Bernardino California January 15, 2025 2:44 pm till January 16, 2025 7:19 am cause is under investigation.
